What's going on?This is a good reason to start your adventure with abs and makepkg.
Fist uninstall kde-i18n-es with
pacman -R kde-i18n-es
Synchronize abs tree by running
abs
as root. Then copy the PKGBUILD file
mkdir /var/abs/local/kde-i18n-es
cp /var/abs/extra/i18n/kde-i18n-es/PKGBUILD to /var/abs/local/kde-i18n-es/
Edit the copied PKGBUILD file and change the lines like this:
pkgver to 3.2.1,
pkgurl to ....stable/3.2.1/....,
depends to kdebase=3.2.1.
Remove the line which starts with md5sums....
Save the file and run
makepkg
in the new directory.
After makepkg finishes run
makepkg -g >>PKGBUILD
This will add the new and correct md5sum line. Edit the file again and move this line where it was placed originally.
Now you can upgrade kde as usually and install the newly created i18n package with
pacman -A /var/abs/local/kde-i18n-es/kde-i18n-es-3.2.1-1.pkg.tar.gz
Alternatively you can create a local repository - read
man pacman
for instructions.
This is what I've done with kde-i18n-pl. It is really easy and you will always be up to date when upgrading kde. Enjoy :-) -

Also check if uve got ur locales set, take a look here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Configuring_locales It's just uncommenting and running locale-gen
Scim i dont myself what this is exactly, never needed myself but heres a wiki entry anyway that might come in handy imo http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sma … d_platform

[SOLVED] Japanese characters in KDE
I've noticed that KDE applications only display half of the Japanese characters. As an example, a terminal will display this filename as "[10]_女子たちに明日はない.flac" but Konqueror or Amarok will display it as "[10]_女[][]に[]明[][][]日い.flac". I installed the following packages;
kde-i18n-ja
kde-i18n-ko
kde-i18n-zh-cn
kde-i18n-zh-tw
And in kcontrol I have all of these languages in the languages list (with US English at the top) & have also restarted the machine, but still KDE doesn't display all of the characters correctly?

... That's a kanji - you cannot search it in this dictionary, since you don't know how it's pronounced.
@Leigh thanks, the japanese meaning is the same, but pronounced "meirou" (at least the kun reading)

KDE & International Languages & Spelling
I have two questions related to KDE's support of international (other than English) languages and one related to XFree86's configuration file /etc/X11/XF86Config-4:
Question 1
I have aspell/ispell dictionaries installed (other than English) but they do NOT appear in
K -> Settings -> Control Center -> KDE Components -> Spell Checker -> Dictionary
Only English dictionaries appear there.
In this way I do not have spelling support in KDE applications.
Question 2
How do I add Languages in KDE?
In
K -> Settings -> Control Center -> Regional & Accessibility -> Country/Region & Language -> Locale -> Languages: English US -> Add Language
only "English US" is available.
Question 3
How do I pass the Switching Option (Policy)
available in
K -> Settings -> Control Center -> Regional & Accessibility -> Keyboard Layout -> Switching Options
to the file
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
Cheers! In order to add more language to the spellchecker you have to install them
pacman -Ss aspell
for the list of the avail dictionary package, by modifing one of the existing PKGBUILD you can easyly add your language if it is missing.
The same for kde language
pacman -Ss kde-i18n
this give you the list of the avail language
They are all kde 3.2.1, do not worry they work as well with 3.2.3.
If it complains about missing dependencies (for kde language) force the installation, ie
pacman -Sf kde-i18n-it
this force the installation of the italian pack for kde. -
Having Problem with Asian Fonts
I'm having a problem installing the packages ttf-arphic-ukai and ttf-arphic-uming. They install fine, but it completely corrupts all my fonts.
Any new applications that are launched (or when KDE is relaunched) have nothing but boxes for the fonts, and, when I log out of KDE to KDM, everything appears as boxes. If I log in to KDE and check out the Fonts section in KControl, it just crashes.
Thinking it was just a KDE issue, I installed Fluxbox, and it won't even start.
This is a brand new installed based off of the 0.7.2 base ISO, and I've updated everything completely. Before the fonts are installed, everything is working perfectly. Any suggestions? Thanks! On Friday I started to develop a page that had japanese translation. I had no problems with it.
Anyway, I realized something that may help you. No matter what font i choosed, japanesse characters where allways showed, and they were always the same.
It means that asian fonts override standard fonts. What can be happening to you is that you don't have the fonts properly configured (either the fonts by themselves, or in Xorg).
I don't know enough about fonts to give you more information about it, but what you should do after reading this is uninstall all asiatic fonts, install japanese fonts, install kde-i18n-jp and create an a user account with KDE set to japanese language and see if it works well to you. If it does not work then the problem is in your configuration. If it works well then do the same with the asian fonts. If they are still not working then to me it looks as a bug, and you should report it. -

äöü not displayed in konqueror
i already searched the forums but didn't find a solution for this:
in konqueror and licq etc i can't get german characters like ö ä ü.
this is in my rc.conf:
LOCALE="en_EN.utf8"
KEYMAP="de-latin1"
and this in my locale.gen

i want to have an "english environment" but beeing able to draw these characters at the same time!
any ideas?I too have same kind of problem with finnish "ö ä å" with konqueror and opera.
I have kde-i18n-fi installed and Option "XkbLayout" "fi" but still

Kde3 related packages should be available on repos, may be with a prefix like -kde3, for who wants to keep using KDE3. I' m compiling ktorrent and yakuake from my old abs tree (thank Allah, i have forgotten to update it). I just reversed back from kde4.1; because it's still buggy and i don't want to waste time to solve them, for now. I just need an usable KDE. I have no time to try KDE 4.1 bug fixing. I may give another try it for next KDE4 revisions.Thanks...

why the maintainers dont test the pkgs (especialy the gtk app) before the refresh of the source mirrors? this is terrible boring...JGC wrote:Update from an up-to-date mirror? i change the fonts style on the kcontrol to defaults and after that i set on the gtk-engine to (use my kde fonts in gtk app) and i restart the applications...now seems to be ok... thx -

In control center -> Regional&Accessibility -> Country/Region... -> Locale i have only English.
So how i add another one?

with. It was suggested that he take the idea to the TUs, because
it's more their job now. Developers will still join the discussion
though.
* Aurelien found a bug in our db update scripts and blew up the
package database. A number of packages were accidently orphaned
because of this. If anyone sees packages that used to be adopted
by one of the developers, feel free to bring it to their attention.

Discussions
Forum Highlights
* Drz wanted to know if all the 0.6 packages were compiled with
GCC3.3.3 (the included compiler). The answer was no. Arch uses a
rolling release cycle where the ISO releases are just snapshots of
the current tree. The focus is on making the trees perfect, not
making a good CD release. Read the thread
here:http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=3155
* LB06 posted his suggestion for the /opt folder. He did not like
the idea of separate binary folders. The thread turned into a
debate with no clear answer. Some people suggested that it helped
organization, and others did not care either way. Participate in
the thread here: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=3084
* Rasat made a request for a web downloading interface to the TUR
system. Xentac, the TUR developer was against this idea, because
the goal with the TUR system was to interface with pacman. This
way users wouldn't have to manually update packages themselves.
The suggestion is still being discussed, so participate here:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=3191.
Mailing List Highlights
* Brent Pitman wanted to know if it was possible to have pacman
automatically update (unattended). There were a few solutions
including a cron script and simply yes| pacman -Syu. This is not
recommended though, because you may want to be notified of
important package updates. Read the thread here:
http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch … 01075.html
TUR Mailing List
The TUR system has been completely redone. The web interface has now
been replaced with a SFS/Subversion combination. This system will scale
much better and is hosted on the ArchLinux servers now. Because of the
downtime, many packages became out of date. Please be patient while the
TUs adjust to the new system and update packages. Please note that the
mailing list address has changed to this:
[email protected].

Problems
FAQ of the Week
Q: I'm having a problem. What should I do, where should I turn? Help me!
A: ArchLinux has many places you can turn for help. First, you should
try reading the many forms of documentation. Arch has a nicely filled
WIKI available at http://wiki.archlinux.org/. There are a set of guides
located here: http://www.archlinux.org/docs/.
If your question wasn't answered in the documentation, you can
search/post in the forum located at http://bbs.archlinux.org or you can
catch people in our IRC room located at irc.freenode.net #archlinux.
Lastly, you can join the mailing list, located at:
http://www.archlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/arch/.
So you see, you are not alone with a problem. Although this may not seem
like a FAQ, we are receiving lots of questions from distressed newcomers.

Making archlinux (local) mirror
Before I post the issue PLEASE dont send me to the wiki page, I have been there and it needs to be updated big time!
okay, I followed the steps on the wiki and I cannot get the mirror script to function, I just get access denied. I believe that I get access denied due to the fact that I am not an official mirror. There is nowhere on the wiki that shows any other servers that can be used properly for the script. I tried the ibiolo mirror on the page but it does not work. If anyone has an unofficial mirror, can you please paste your whole sync.sh? or can someone give me an alternative mirror to rsync.archlinux.org? Thanks
