Keep getting a restart warning!

On a 1.5GB MBP, I have recently got the "You need to restart your computer'  warning which comes on a message with 5 languages on a slowly dropping tinted backdrop over the whole screen. I think it happened while on 10.5.8 once yesterday, and ironically I ignored it as have done a complete erase and clean instll of 10.6, but it's since happened about 5 times now, when I click a link or go to play a movie.
A quick search said a kernal panic, is this right and what can resolve it or is it time put it to rest?

KP's can be caused by software, like OS X itself or third party programs, or a hardware problem.
You have to do a process of elimination to find out what's the cause.

....have done a complete erase and clean instll of 10.6...
That's OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard correct?
Because OS X Leopard 10.5 is obsolete.
OS X 10.4/10.5 need to upgrade, 10.6.8 ok still
...as have done a complete erase and clean instll of 10.6, but it's since happened about 5 times now, when I click a link or go to play a movie.
Did you use Software Update to get current to 10.6.8?
If so, then backup your files off the machine to a external storage drive (not only TimeMachine!!!) disconnect.
Most commonly used backup methods
Erase and install Snow Leopard by holding the c key down and booting from the 10.6 disk.
This time use the Disk Utility > Erase with Zero option on the boot drive, then quit and install OS X 10.6 (this will take a lot longer, but map off bad areas on the drive)
Reboot and setup, Software Update to 10.6.8 under the Apple menu and reboot the computer again.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
Don't restore any programs (expecially MacKeeper or anti-virus as they are not needed) or files, use the computer and see if your problems return. Install one program at a time and test.
Run a #3 Hardware Test.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
1.5GB of RAM isn't very much, I don't know your model of Mac but you can use the free MacTracker to find out how much RAM your machine can support.
Another possible problem with kp's is a overheating machine, the exhaust ports get clogged and as you use the machine it overheats and kp's.
Use the Apple menu > About this Mac > more infor and get the Model identifier and state that here or look it up in Mactracker.
If your machine is over 5 years old, it might be time for a new one, all depends upon the wear and tear on it.

  • JDK 6: Generics: List.add() question - keep getting unchecked call warning.

    JDK 6
    Generics
    private TreeNode transactionTreeData;
    transactionTreeData.getChildren().add(moduleData);1. transactionTreeData is a TreeNode.
    2. the method getChildren() returns a java.util.List
    3. the method add() is from the Collection interface.
    I keep returning the warning message:
    "unchecked call to add(E) as a member of the raw type java.util.List"
    I understand what this means, but I am having problems rewriting these lines correctly to remove the warning.
    I've tried:
    private TreeNode transactionTreeData;
    List<TreeNode> treeList = transactionTreeData.getChildren();
    treeList.add(moduleData);But I keep returning the same warning message. I guess what is throwing me off is how to I properly add the generic statements when the List is return from a method (getChilden in this example)?

    This is actually JSF - MyFaces Tomahawk to be exact, my mistake for not adding that in my original thread.
    I am dealing with the compiled class:
    package org.apache.myfaces.custom.tree2;
    public interface TreeNode extends java.io.Serializable {
         java.util.List getChildren();
    }TreeNode.getChildren return a raw List as you can see, no doubt...

    When I use Craigslist, my personal list of things being sold, and I try and renew my listings, I periodically get this: "Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain." Usually rebooting my computer makes it go away for a short time, but today that isn't working and following the commands on the warning doesn't work either...is this truly a firefox issue? What you're seeing is a kernel panic.
    Do you have extra RAM installed? If so, try taking out the extra RAM and see if that cures the problem.

  • Keep Getting Temperature Warning...

    I keep getting the temperature warning, and my iPod isn't even hot. Recently, I've been getting it around ever 5 minutes, and that time just keeps getting shorter. It's horrible. I'm also getting the warning just when it's charging. I don't understand why it's happening. Plus, I've only had my iPod for a little over 3 months so it's not even that old. Have you ever had this problem? What should I do? Also, in the case that I'm going to have to get a new iPod, how do I save the apps I've bought?

    You can try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restoring from backup
    - Restoring to factory defaults/new iPod.
    If you still have the problem you very likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. If defective, Apple will exchange your iPod for a replacment.

    Looks like there is a key that isn't getting deleted when an account is deleted. I thought I had resolved the error message problem by removing my wife's account from my Thunderbird instance. Haven't seen it since the above post. Just got it again:

  • *** I keep getting a render error

    I am trying to conform my HDV footage and keep getting the same warning.
    Specs:
    Project is HDV - length 53 minutes
    Video and audio render files set to a drive that has 149.8gb of space left on it.
    Here is the message I keep getting:
    "Render Error: Insufficient disk space. Free up space with the Render Manager and retry?"
    When I hit "cancel" and retry, the problem happens again. If I hit "okay" and choose a drive with tons of space (i.e. the 149.8gb drive), the message happens again.
    How do I fix this?

    Scratch Disks:
    Video capture/Audio Capture/Video Render/Audio render set on a 149.5gb external HD
    Waveform cache/Thumbnail cache/Autosave vault all set to the same drive
    Minimum allowable free space on scratch disks set at 500mb.
    Does that help?
