Kernal How do I upgrade to a version below latest.

HI.
I just installed Oracle Linux 5.1 straight from CD, But I need to be running
kernel-2.6.18-53.1.19.0.1.el5.x86_64, This is not the latest and u2date will
just upgrade me to the latest version. I know I need the below files, I found this
in a Tech note but I can't locate these files on the Oracle site.
kernel-2.6.18-53.1.19.0.1.el5.x86_64.rpm
kernel-debug-2.6.18-53.1.19.0.1.el5.x86_64.rpm
kernel-debug-devel-2.6.18-53.1.19.0.1.el5.x86_64.rpm
kernel-devel-2.6.18-53.1.19.0.1.el5.x86_64.rpm
kernel-doc-2.6.18-53.1.19.0.1.el5.noarch.rpm
kernel-headers-2.6.18-53.1.19.0.1.el5.x86_64.rpm
kernel-xen-2.6.18-53.1.19.0.1.el5.x86_64.rpm
kernel-xen-devel-2.6.18-53.1.19.0.1.el5.x86_64.rpm
How do I update to the version I need, Is there an easy way using u2date, if not
how do I manage this.
Thanks
Alan

Hi Alan
You should find the sources on http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/
Download the version you need, compile and it should be done.
The latest stable version of the Linux kernel is : www.kernel.org/kdist/finger_banner
Type the below commands in your shell as root:
#up2date -i -f kernel (for single processor server)
or
#up2date -i -f kernel-smp (for dual processor server)
Check to see all files exits in the "/boot" directory that "/etc/lilo.conf" is pointing to... followed by:
#lilo -v -v
...to install the boot loader, the "-v" option increases verborsity.
Look carefully for any errors before rebooting.
#shutdown -r now
Above is a shortcut of the steps to do the update. If you need a more extensive howto, then visit the Forum.
NOTE:
"lilo -R <kernel label>" sets default command line for next reboot.
see "man lilo" for information on one time boot to a particular kernel.
The lilo -R command will make it reboot only once to the new kernel. If for some reason, server does not automatically reboot... reseting it will automatically boot to the old kernel. If it comes back up fine then you can edit the "/etc/lilo.conf" and set "default=" the new kernel label.

iPhoto '11 or later: About the Library Upgrader
You might see this message in iPhoto: "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared." If you do, you can use the iPhoto Library Upgrader tool to prepare your library to work with the current version of iPhoto.
The iPhoto Library Upgrader is a tool that prepares libraries from iPhoto '08 (v7.x) or earlier so that you can upgrade them with the current version of iPhoto. If your library is from iPhoto '09 (v8.x) or later, you don't need to use this tool.
THEN HOW DO I UPGRADE MY LATER VERSION??

Ok I will - There is No contradiction at all - Notice the CONDITIONAL STATEMENT
You might see this message in iPhoto: "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared." If you do, you can use the iPhoto Library Upgrader tool to prepare your library to work with the current version of iPhoto.
If you do not see that conditional statement then your library will simply be upgraded with no additional software required
Exactly as the quote you posted says

Really simple - if you have iphoto '08 or earlier backup your into library and download and run the iPhoto library upgrader and then launch the new iphoto to finish the upgrade - If you have iphoto '09 or l simply backup your iphoto library and launch the new iphoto to do the upgrade

  • How do I upgrade htmldb to version 1.6

I have installed htmldb on the 10g database that comes with the database installation CD. Now, how do I upgrade htmldb to 1.6 version. I see lot of features missing in my current version as to whatever is shown in the tutorials' screenshots.
I have downloaded htmldb_1.6.0.zip. One way is to drop all the objects under :
flows_010500, flows_files and htmldb_public_user. And recreate all these again using the scripts given in the htmldb_1.6.0.zip.
I already have some objects created using this version of htmldb. Is there any other way of upgrading it to 1.6 without deleting these objects?

    rbotla,
From the Oracle HTML DB Installation Guide:
If you have version 1.5.0.00.33 or 1.5.1.00.12 of Oracle HTML DB, running this
installation will upgrade your Oracle HTML DB instance to version 1.6. This
installation will create Oracle HTML DB 1.6 database objects in a new schema and
migrate the application metadata to the new version.

  • How can I upgrade the solo version of Logic Pro 9 to Logic Studio?

I just would like to know how and where to upgrade logic pro to logic studio

First of all, Erik is correct.. Logic Studio has been discontinued.. However, there are a few copies left around I am sure... to purchase if you really wanted to...
    But.....
Unless you really want Waveburner and Soundtrack Pro 3..(Neither of which have been updated for at least a couple of years now..)  there is little point in buying Logic Studio 2... as it will cost you $499... and you can buy Compressor and Mainstage (the other two parts of Logic Studio) for much less than that on the App Store.... and the additional content (that actually took up most of the DVDs in the boxed set) can be downloaded for free within Logic Pro itself.
I think a newer version is soon to be announce.
Not of Logic Studio there won't be.. I believe boxed sets of Logic are long dead and gone... and won't be seen again... It's all App Store products from now on...
There may well be a newer version of Logic Pro on the way.. but no one knows when.... until Apple announce it.

  • How do I upgrade to LMP version 0x6?  I have 2011 MacBookPro with OX 10.10.2

My external keypad will not pair with my MacBook Pro since updating to 10.10.2.  It seems I may need to upgrade Bluetooth.  Apparently I need to have LMP version 0x6.  Where to I get this?

If your Mac supports Snow Leopard, simply purchase the $29 Snow Leopard DVD. iWorks is a recommended upgrade, but not mandatory.

  • Running os x version 10.5.8 how do you upgrade to newer version

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • How do I upgrade from OSX version 10.2.8 to anything higher?

    Can anyone help me :-S
I have OSX 10.2.8 and need to upgrade to something higher so I can install newer versions of, well basically everything!
    I am really stuck!
    Thanks!!!

Hi spoonallen! And Welcome to Discussions!
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.5 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
A Full Retail Version(Link), of the Panther Install CDs(Link), can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
They are no longer available directly from the "Apple Store", as "Tiger 10.4.x" is the most up to date OS.
Here are links to some on eBay, that look legit, but CAVEAT EMPTOR!
    Link: USED Plus iLife!
    Link:PROBABLY USED
    Link: USED
    Link: USED
If you do an expanded search on eBay, or Amazon, you will probably find more.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Panther is only on CDs, not DVDs.
More info here Tip: Using OS X Install CDs/DVDs On Multiple Macs(Link).
Once 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update(Link), to upgrade to the final edition of Panther.
If your Mac meets the Tiger system requirements(Link), you could also consider installing that, using a FULL RETAIL VERSION(Link) of the TIGER INSTALL DVD(Link).
Shop Carefully, Examine All Documention, And Good Luck!

  • Just bought an Imac G5 but can't do much with it, how can I upgrade to neewer version and which is the next version after 10.4.11?

HI, I just bought an Imac G5 with 10.4.11 OS in it but I can't do much with it.  I can't even wach Netflix on it because it needs a newer version of browser but I can't download newer version because My Mac's OS is to old, at least 10.6 needed.  Can anybody can help Me?  Thank you

No, sorry. It was only ever available on Disc. You can search places like eBay or Amazon for a Retail Copy. Do not get the Grey Set as they are machine specific. I don't think 10.5 will let you do much more than 10.4 as you said you needed at least 10.6 which is not possible due to the age of your Mac.
    Cheers
    Pete

  • How can I upgrade to new versions, but keep the custom look I love icons of the theme I've installed in version 3.6.n ?

When will custom icons in themes be available for the new versions. The stripped down m9inimal version is just not appealing to me.

First, try to determine the reason that Firefox 3.5.10 is hanging or not starting. Since you did not specify, you will need to read some of the following to determine hanging or starting; hanging usually gives you an error message when you try to start Firefox. See below. If you install Firefox 3.6.6 over the top of 3.5.10 and the cause of the hanging or not starting is one or more extensions or plugins or some other cause, Firefox 3.6.6 may experience the same problem.
    <u>'''Kill Application'''</u>
In Task Manager, does firefox.exe show in the <u>'''Processes'''</u> tab?
    See: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Kill_application Kill Application]
'''<u>Causes and solutions for Firefox hanging at exit:</u>'''
    [[Firefox hangs]]
    [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs#Hang_at_exit Firefox hangs at exit]
[[Firefox is already running but is not responding]]
    <u>'''Safe Mode'''</u>
You may need to use '''[[Safe Mode]]''' (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that disables Extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes <u>'''before'''</u> starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
    See:
    '''[[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]'''
    '''[[Troubleshooting plugins]]'''
    '''[[Basic Troubleshooting]]'''
If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your Extensions and Plug-ins and then try to find which is causing it by enabling <u>'''one at a time'''</u> until the problem reappears. <u>'''You MUST close and restart Firefox after EACH change'''</u> via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

  • How do I upgrade from "server" version of the OS to the "desktop" version?

I installed the text-based download, and now I have a server-oriented config. How do I
install the necessary packages to get the graphical desktop? Or do I have to redownload
    and reinstall?

    Hi,
You're correct. The Getting Started Guide procedure is missing the step for enabling the GDM desktop service after installing slim_install. The instructions will need to be updated to include the following command, executed after the "reboot" step:
    svcadm enable gdm && exit
I'm the installation writer. Thank you for catching this omission!

  • How to preserve nested layers for versions below CS6?

Hi there - I'm trying to save a PSD created with CC2014 for a developer who is using a version of Photoshop older than CS6. The problem is that when he opens the PSD with his version the nested layers are all lost, which makes the document organization really difficult to understand. Is there a way to downsave or export the PSD in such a way that the nested layers are preserved?
    Thanks,
    Elena

No, because older versions of Photoshop only understood up to 5 layer groups (versus the current 10).
And much older versions didn't understand layer groups at all.
The nested layers themselves are not lost, but the deeper layer groups will be lost in older versions of Photoshop.  (content preserved, not organization)
