Kernel patch upgrade for multiple instance

Hi expert,
I want to know will we follow the same process while upgrade the kernel patch only for Multiple ABAP STAK.
We have system which has 3 instances....................so my question is exactly where we ned to put the kernel files (Generlly it should be in /EXE or /RUN file)and in which instance.......

1.If I copy the patches only in central instance will it affect to all other instances.....?
If you have configured your SAP system correctly then Yes, Kernel upgrade in Central Instance will reflect in Dialog Instances also.
2.what is the concept of SAPMNT..(/sapmnt/SID/exe ).........?
/sapmsnt/SID/SYS/exe -> to share the kernel across the instances
3.What is the difference between EXE and RUN directory ............will it make any difference if I copy into EXE folder instead of
/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run is located on the host system of the R/3 instance and is for locally-stored executables
/sapmsnt/SID/SYS/exe/run -> Central Instance directory
/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe - Dialog Instance directory
you can check the values of DIR_EXECUTABLE or DIR_CT_RUN (if you are using sapcpe) to determine the kernel directories for central and dialog instances respectively

  • Kernel Patch upgrade results into error

Recently, we upgraded our R/3 640 kernel from patch number 196 to 327. It went successful.
But now, the Sales and order team is having problem in saving the orders(VA02, VA01).
While saving Sales order, error pops up saying "dialog step number missing".
    Kindly suggest.

    Hi ppl,
    The problem has been resolved.
As i said, problem wasnt with the upgrade, but came thereafter, functional team faced issues while switching between the windows.
Problem was with the Gui level, it needed to be upgraded too after the kernel patch upgrade.
Thanks a lot for putting your thoughts.

  • Backup error after kernel patch upgrade

    Hi.
I have a backup problem after the kernel patch upgrade.  I have SAP R3 4.6C on HPUX11.0 with an Oracle 8.17 database.
I have upgraded kernel patch from 1655 to 2337.
Afterward, I am getting following backup error:
    BR280I Time stamp 2007-11-06 09.29.01
    BR279E Return code from '/usr/sap/HAD/SYS/exe/run/backint -u HAD -f backup -i /oracle/HAD/sapbackup/.bdwnpztp.lst -t file_online -c': 2
BR232E 0 of 115 files saved by backup utility
    BR280I Time stamp 2007-11-06 09.29.01
    BR231E Backup utility call failed
Does anyone know how to correct this?
    Thank you.

    Hi Jun,
backint is a link file that is in SAP kernel directory which links to the backup client on the server.
    eg:
    lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     other         32 Aug 13  2004 backint -> /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/backint
As part of kernel upgrade process, the kernel is backed up, mostly on the disk before upgrading. Check if this link exists and recreate it in the kernel directory, if no backup was done, compare it with other systems to get the details of the backint link.

  • Using .vit for multiple instance

    Hi,
I have a main vi, uses rendevous to run multiple subvis at the same time, that needs to be opened separately per user which need to open the same vi multiple times.
I tried to use .vit, changed main vi to vit. Created new vi that calls this main.vit. However this doesn't run multiple times, only opens the first window. Then I used subVIs as vit. This even creates a bigger problem. The sub vi's that opened doesn't run.
I think I'm missing some basic concepts of using vit. I searched the forum, found some articles but I can't find what I'm doing wrong.
Should main vit calling several sub vit's work?
    Any tips, comments would help.
    Thank you very much.

"CoastalMaineBird" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected]..
VIT is not for multiple instances, it is a TEMPLATE. That means you open it up, but when you go to save it, it pretends that it's untitled, and you have to give it a new name.
That's useful - for example, I have a TIMING TEMPLATE. When I want to time something. I open this VIT file. I insert the code I want to time into a certain frame, and run it. I usually don't save it, but if I do, I have to give it a new name.
That way, the next time I open it, it's fresh again.
If you want to run the same VI multiple times in parallel, you must:
    - Understand what RE-ENTRANT EXECUTION means.
    - Set the VI to use re-entrant execution.
    - Use the VI Server to open each instance dynamically.
    - Use the VI Server to CLOSE each instance dynamically.
    - Be very careful about getting data into and out of the VI in question.
    HTH
VI Templates can also be used to run multiple instances of the same vi. If you open a .vit dynamically several times, you'll end up with several instances of the vit. Actually, this is an intended use of the vi templates. And it works great. The great benefit over reentrant vi's is that the vi templates have front panels of there own. So it's great to use vit's when you want several similar panel, without copying the code. Reentrant vi's where not intended for this. Before 8.0, reentrant vi's didn't even have panels that updated properly, so you had to use a vit.

    Wiebe.

  • Kernel patch update for solaris 10 x86

I have Solaris 10 06/06 installed on x86 machine which is using svm and clustered with another node. The kernel revision is 118855-19 from the uname -a output. I am looking for the kernel patch updation and I heard 118855-36 is the latest one. Shall I go ahead with this patch and what r the dependency patches for this.
If anyone done this please suggest and guide me..

For Solaris 10 x86 the latest offered with smpatch is 125101-07 and yes it may be recommended to patch. Then again you said clustered with sun cluster? You may want to check the documentation and if your machines aren't facing the internet you may wait for 7/07 to hit the street and do an upgrade.

  • Unlimted License Patch fails for multiple versions of  Server Express

I'm following the directions for installing and licensing two versions of Microfocus Server Express for a PeopleTools 8.52 upgrade. When I get to the point where I apply the Unlimited License Patch (ULP), the application to the first version goes fine, showing a successful "installed" message. After installing the other version of Server Express, I try to apply the ULP again and this time it returns an "uninstalled" message. Eventhough I had COBDIR set to the 2nd installation, the ULP deinstalled the patch for the first installation. I'm doing this as the root user but I have su'ed to root. This worked fine 2 years ago. What am I missing in the environment that prohibits me from installing the ULP for multiple versions of Server Express?

  • Best practice for multiple instances of the same BEX query

    Hi there,
I'm wondering what's the best way to use multiple instances of the same BEX query. Let me explain what I mean:
I have a dashboard with different queries feeding different period of time such as: week to date, month to date and so on. One query for each since it is based on a user exit.
For each query I want to show different data in different sections of my dashboard. Per example: sales per directors or sales per customer group, sales per day, sales per week and the like.I tried to connect a simple bar chart via a direct connection but with no success due to the multiple lines generated by the addition of the sales director, customer group, week number and so on.
My question is about the way to connect the different queries efficiently in order to show the different data while avoiding multiple useless lines.
The image above shows the query browser where, per example, for a Month to date query there will be mutiple line for each week as well as one line for each director. If, for two different components, I want to show data per week and data per director or other representation what is the best practice:
Add another instance of the same query and only put the week information and another one will only the director info?
Should I bind those to the excel file and use formulas to make final calculations?
Will there be a performance issues for adding different instances of the same query
I have 6 different queries (read 6 user exit that filters time via user exit).
Depending on the best practices there might be 4 instances for each for a total of 24 instances in the query browser.
I hope my question is clear enough, if not please do not hesitate I'll clarify as much as possible.
    Regards,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
Might be trying for solution for a long time, If i understood your question clear let me clarify you few points.
You are trying to access the bex query which is designed with the exit's in the background based on the logic and trying to call the entire dimensions and key-figures in a single connection. Then you are trying to map those data in the charts.
Steve, try to make more connections based upon the logic and split them. use the same query but split them by sales per customer group, sales per day, sales per week by making three different connections and try. You can merge the prompts from all connections.
    Hope this Helps!!!
Sorry if i misunderstood your question.

Patch 118855-36 is the latest kernel patch for Solaris 10 on x86 and its dependencies are:
    113000-01 117435-02 118344-14 119043-09 119255-14 121264-01 122035-01 123840-01 (or greater)
Whether you should go ahead and install the patch is up to you, if possible try it out on a test box first. For better advice on this matter, I would suggest posting in the Solaris 10 forum as this forum is for the Sun Update Connection, Patch Manager & PatchPro toolsets.

  • Solaris 10 kernel patch upgrade

    Hi all,
i am in a process of upgrading the kernel patch of a solaris 10 x64 machine, the present kernel patch is "5.10 Generic_144489-06 i86pc i386 i86pc" the updated kernel patch that i am going to upgrade to is patch "144501-19".
could you please let me know if there is any special handling to undergo the upgrade or it is only sufficient to follow the 144501-19 README file?
i know that i should put the system on the single user mode level and i have to have a valid OS backup before doing the patchadd, but if i am missing anything else please let me know
    thanks

    Hello,
if you are having system filesystems (/ /usr /var ...) on software RAID1 devices, best practise is to split mirrors and have most recent actual copy of the system (or create current ZFS snapshot if using ZFS on root),patch it in single user mode or use Live Upgrade functionality and create alternate boot environment and patch the ABE on running system (you can find various info in Oracle Docs or get inspired by various blogs:http://nilesh-joshi.blogspot.com/2011/10/oracle-solaris-patching-using-live.html). I always patch kernel and other system components using PCA patching utility - have a look on project homepage http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/ it's really advanced and helpful tool. It can save you lot of time when solving dependecies and also downloading the patches.
    Good luck

  • Dynamic memory allocation on HP-UX for multiple instances on one host

    Hi everyone,
I was wondering what the current possibilities are nowadays on running multiple SAP instances on one very large host with regard to resource sharing. Normally, for each instance, using PHYS_MEMSIZE etc you have to set the memory to a fixed size and then optimize it.
Preferrably we would like the memory to be allocated based upon actual usage. Is that possible at all? on HP-UX? Using third party techniques?
    Thank you
    Marcel Rabe

    Hello Marcel,
As Juan said you may not be able to change the parameters at runtime.
The only parameters that can be dynamically switched are :
    ztta/roll_first
    ztta/roll_extension
    ztta/roll_area
    abap/heap_area_dia
    abap/heap_area_nondia
    abap/heap_area_total
    em/stat_log_size_MB
    em/stat_log_timeout
These parameters would put a cap on memory allocations, however they wouldn't help increase the total addressable memory area.
I would suggest that you consider Adaptive Computing for dynamic use of resources.
    Adaptive Computing

  • Support for Multiple instance of Portal2005Q1 on Weblogic8.1sp4

Has anyone installed multiple instances of Portal server 2005Q1 on a Weblogic container ?
We were unable to set up multiple instances of Portal2004Q2 on the Weblogic container. Looks like this issues is addressed in 2005Q1.
This is posing serious concerns to our architecture scalability. Would greatly appreciate if you could let us know the issues you faced for setting up Portal2005Q1 on Weblogic8.1SP4,if any.

There should not be a significant negative performance impact. The biggest
issue will probably the amount of memory the 10 instances will use, not any
CPU impact. On larger SMP systems, it is not uncommon to run several
instances of WLS in a cluster (perhaps one for every 2 - 4 CPU's) to
    improve performance.

    Hello,
Is there a significant degradation of performance when using multipleinstances
of weblogic on 1 Box. Example what would be the difference between running10
instances each hosting 1 application on 1 box versus 1 instance hostingall the
10 applications. Division into multiple domains is required formaintaining independence
between the administrators of the application.
Further let me add if those applications are mostly IO intensive and alsothe
load on those applications is not more than 1 hit per second would thisstrategy
    cause problems.

  • Kernel Patch Upgrade

    Hi all,
We have our production system which is on ECC 6.0 with Oracle 10.2.0.2.The CI is on HP-Ux and there are 3 Application servers on Linux. All are on kernel patch level 95 and we need to update the kernel patch level to 124 in all the CI+apps
I just wanna know if the scenario below is correct
    1)stopsap  on all the apps
    2)stopsap on the CI
3)Do the kernel upgrade on CI
4)Start sap on CI,chec if its fine
5)Then update kernel in individual apps and start sap on the apps server.
I guess its right..But just wanted to know if this is the best possible thing or something else is better than the above scenario.
    Regards
    Bharathwaj V

    Hi Bharathwaj V,
    your scenario sounds good.
    Just some remarks:
    - after stopping the app server / CI, also stop saposcol before changing the kernel
    - make sure to run the same patchlevel on all appservers and CI (you seem to know about this already)
    - run "saproot.sh <SID>" as root after changing the kernel before restarting the CI and appservers. saproot.sh is contained in the exe-directory, it will set the exe-settings of saposcol and br*
    - because of the special settings of saposcol and br*, you'll have to change the kernel files as root
    - keep a backup of the old kernel (copy exe to exe_PL95) until you are sure everything works fine.
    Best regards,
      Elmar.

  • How is the SNMP support for multiple instances

    Hi,
I have two instances of WebLogic Server 5.1 running on Solaris 5.8 node.
How can get the details thru SNMP for both instances. I was able to
start only one instace of SNMP agent at any time. Is there any solution
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
    --sreeni.

You can provide URLs of both servers to one SNMP agent, via the -serverURLs
    option.

  • How to set a payload field value only once for multiple instances selected?

The user needs to set a payload field value and then he can approve the task so the task can continue through the process, that's fine when the user selects one instance and sets the value in the task details section and then clicks the approve button, but how do we achieve the same behavior in a multiple way?, I mean the user can select multiple tasks in the workspace (in this case the details task page is not available and instead the following label appear "Multiple tasks selected") then if the user clicks the Actions drop down -> APPROVE he only gets the message "your request was processed successfully", so how can the user modify the payload field value only once for all the selected tasks so when he clicks APPROVE the value is populated in all the instances selected.
    Thanks,
    Carlos.
