I did an disk permissions scan and repair as well as disk verify. Now the numbers portion of the key board on the right does not work. The numbers on the top function correctly. Ideas?

In System Preferences, under Accessibility (10.9) or Universal Access (10.6) or something similar if you still have 10.7, which I can't check, make sure that Mouse Keys are not turned on.

  • T400 - 6474CTO - Key board problem

Suddenly this problem occured: n,b, space, arrow up left right suddenly stopped working. Working now and then, mostly then. Changed KB; same problem.
    Any clue?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I would try cleaning the keyboard connector on the motherboard with 100% Alcohol. If you have a good magnifier glass also check that the connector has no pins bent or damaged.
You're positive that both keyboards are in perfect working condition, right?
Another thing you could try is to disconnect the touchpad (I mean physically disconnecting it from the mainboard, not deactivating it in the BIOS) and see if the keyboard works. Sounds crazy but I remember that they keyboard mouse keys of my W510 weren't working due to a defective palmrest!
Last but not least, try also booting a Linux distro and check that the keyboard is working there.
    Hope this helps!

  • Key Board problems after repairs

I had my iMac into the local Apple store for replacement of the super drive. Now that it’s back home, I notice the new drive is much louder than the old one, and more important, the volume and eject keys on the keyboard will not work. When I use any of these keys, I get the widegts screen. HELP! Thanks

Check to see if Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Full Keyboard Access has the eject key mapped the wrong way. If not, then take it back to the repair center and explain that you think they messed up the wiring.

  • My Macbook air 2011, one line of key board (a to l) do not respond, but when an external keyboard is hooked up these keys starts functioning as normal, after disconnecting the external key board (from the USB) the problem comes back...Please help. Thank y

My Macbook air 2011- key board (a-l) do not respond, but when you hook up an external key board to the usb these keys on the computer also starts functioning as normal and when you disconnect the external key, these keys stops functioning...?

    Perform SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Key board and track pad not working

Ok, My situation is similar to some of the other things posted but not quite.
I tried to wake my computer up from sleep the other day and it wouldn't "wake up" so I did a hard shut down and restart. When it restarted the key board and track pad did not work. The caps lock light wouldn't come on or anything. I tried connecting a usb apple keyboard and mouse and those didn't work either.
When switching to windows in bootcamp, everything works. So... I guess that means it's a software thing.
I called Apple support and we did all the possible key combinations and restarts possible and it came down to this: I need to archive install tiger again, then install all of the updates, then install leopard back on (I don't have leopard disk because it was a family pack and im at college). My roomate's macbook (White, bought in aug 2008) install disks which are 10.5.2 do not work with my computer.
My question is: Is this really the correct solution to my problem? Will archiving and installing tiger then leopard affect my files? I haven't backed up using time machine in a month, so is there a way to backup through osx with my keyboard and trackpad not working or can I do a good back up through my windows partition in bootcamp? Any more tips? Thanks, this has never happened before and I guess I'm a little clueless.

Do you have access to another Mac? If so, possibly you could use Firewire Target Disk Mode to access your drive and do a current Time Machine backup:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Since you have a family pack of Leopard at home, possibly you could have someone burn a safety copy of it and send it to you so that you can reinstall Leopard. Once you have the OS installed and brought up to date, you could even restore from Time Machine if you had to.
Since we don't know all the steps you took, it's hard for any of us to say if this is the right solution. Evidently the Apple tech came to the conclusion that your software had become corrupted, and this could well be the case, since everything works on the Windows partition. Hence the suggestion to reinstall the OS.
I think you need to get a copy of the Leopard disc so that you can bring your OS completely up to date. I'm not sure of the logistics of doing an Archive and Install with both Tiger and Leopard, especially if much of your work has been done on Leopard. I'm not even sure if it's necessary to reinstall Tiger--it might be better to just reinstall Leopard using Archive and Install.
It's always a good idea to have a good up to date backup like Time Machine before attempting an Archive and Install, because things can go wrong. If they do, you may end up having to do an erase and install. If that happens, you can restore from your Time Machine backup.
I think what you should do is to get a copy of your Leopard disc, and then boot from it and try to do the Archive and Install. Navigate to Disk Utility first and verify both permissions and the disk and repair if necessary. Then proceed with the Archive and Install. Once you're done, run all the updates. Then go to Disk Utility and repair permissions.
    Good luck!

    help Sandra

    sandra frombeaconsfield,
    Try a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Follow directions for a battery you should not remove yourself.
You can also try a NVRAM/PRAM reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
You May also try a safe mode boot, power off the the MBP, Power it back up holding the shift key, hold the shift key till you see the progress bar, then release, allow to finish booting,(note this will take longer than a normal boot) check around, then logout and shut down and boot normally. (this can sometimes fix little problems.
If no joy, take it in to an Apple Genius bar for evaluation, it's free, your furry little friend may have caused some hardware damage, the fact that you have to press hard for it to repond is what me think this.
    Best of luck

    Restating my issue / question...
When I send email from this iMac, there is a string of characters assigned. The characters are all the "alpha numeric" characters on the QWERTY key board. This only occurs when email is sent from this iMac. The issue does not manifest when using any other lap top or computer.
Hence, I have ruled out the issue is a yahoo mail matter.
Again, I can access the Yahoo mail account form multiple devices and send email without unintended assignment of character strings, but when I send wmail using this iMac, the issue happens everytime.
Characters are stacked verticaly in a column. It looks as if all characters (except function keys) are included in the string.
    Any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Post the contents of that window, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; } | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}' | open -f -a TextEdit
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50856.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

  • How to pair an apple TV with an Apple key board ?? Should be easy but ???

    Hi out there...
Ive just bought an Apple TV and because I already have a Mac needed to buy a new key board to pair them up...but it's not happening !
So have a wasted $89.00 Aus for nothing because it should be fairly straight forward
    Cheer Sal

If you have a recent model Apple wireless keyboard you should be able to pair it with the ATV very easily. Apple's Apple TV: Using the Apple Wireless Keyboard provides step by step instructions for doing this & a troubleshooting section if you encounter any problems.
In particular, note the "not paired or connected to another device" troubleshooting item. That was a "gotcha" for me because I had forgotten that I had paired my wireless keyboard with my iPhone to show someone how that works. Oops!
If you need to unpair your keyboard, you do that from the device it is currently paired with.
