Is there a way to change the key photo for an event or to change the name of an event in iPhoto for iOS?

Yes. Make sure the photo you'd like to be the thumbnail is the first photo in the album.
You are right, it's the first photo, not the third like I thought (don't know where I got that idea).
However, I guess I should have been more specific by adding that I'd like to keep the photos in the order they are in, their shooting or chronological order. Maybe I'm naive but I don't think I should have to make compromises to my vision to suit the limitations of a software program.

Iphoto - key photo won't set for an event on my iPad

I have placed my photos into "Events". I have assigned a "key photo" to my events. For some reason some key photos will show up as the key photo in iPhoto but when I sync with iTunes the key photo isn't the one I assigned or want on my iPad. First I rebooted my Mac and my iPad and I even changed almost all the key photos successfully but a select few refuse to change on my iPad after being synced.
The key photo for one of the events WAS NEVER set as a key photo.
Very frustrated with my Mac products lately.

One for the iPad forum, I think. iPhoto for Mac has no control over what happens on the iPad.

How do I change the key photo of a Photo Journal created in iPhoto for iOS?

Is there a way to choose this photo? It seems to default to the first photo in the event used to create the journal, not even first photo on first page.

If you edit the journal, select the picture you want to use, choose "Edit" and then select the settings icon (the gear wheel) you can choose to select this picture as the "Key Photo".

No more key photos in "Photos" view?

After upgrading, I can no longer see key photos in "Photos" view. Is this a setting that I can change, or did iPhoto '11 drop this feature?

Had to restore iPhoto library from external hard drive. Key Photos Blank!

Photos seem to be there, but the key photos are either blank or all have the same one photo. How can I restore the key photo setting to automatically use the first photo in each group?
Is there anything else I need to do to formalize this process and get iphoto running normally again?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails - it can take three or four goes to work.

In my events the key photos no longer show up and the picture amount reads 0, but the pictures are still there when I click on that event. Why does the amount read 0?

In some of my events in iphoto no pictures show up in the key photos. In others they do. I just upoaded some and no problem. I noticed that in the lower right corner of each event with no key photo the photo amount reads zero. I click on that event and all of the photos do show up. Does anyone know why this is happening, or have come across this before? Thanks, Daryl

In downloading my Events from iPhoto on my Mac to my iPad Air, the Events arrive in the proper order but not showing the Key Photo. At the same time, the Events arrive in iPhoto on the iPad in totally random order but showing the Key Photo.Why?

HHi, thank you for the reply. I have checked my iPad and iPhone and neither has iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled. Turned off in both. Photostream is turned on.
i tried to sort it out by dragging all the photos to Events on the Mac and then deleting them from iCloud - (left hand side of iPhoto under the section 'Shared'). the photos now show up in Events. I did force quit but the issue remains. The message reads ' photos are bing imported to the library. Please wait for import to complete.'
i can't empty iPhoto trash either. The message read "Delete error. Please wait for import to complete.'
WHen I was moving the photos to the Events I always had a message about duplicates - to the effect that the photos already existed, did I want to import them? I clicked on Yes, import all duplicates. But when it showed the images - duplicates side by side - one showed the photo and the other was blank.
I really don't know what to do! And I don't know how to handle my iOS devices. Is it to do with the large number of photos? Any help, advice appreciated.

you can set key image for albums page, as long as the image is one of the first of 50 images in the album (aka photos page) and you need to know how iweb widgets work.

notice the displayed image is the 4th image in the album, not the first image.

.Mac Web Gallery - How to change key photo and order or galleries?

How can I choose which photo is the key photo for each .Mac web gallery? Also, how can I re-arrange the order of the web galleries?

I would really love to see a solution for this too ! Unfortunately I think apple just didn't implement it in Aperture. My .Mac web gallery is about events in my life and it doesn't make any sense to have it sorted alphabetically...
Not being able to simply set a key photo is really annoying too.
The worst is that these two functions are available in iPhoto. All they had to do was copy and paste...

MobileMe Gallery from A3 Does not Display Key Photo

When I post from Aperture 3 to MobileMe, the Gallery preview pic does not display the key photo anymore. Skimming still works, but the preview pic as seen in the gallery is not displayed. Instead of the preview picture, an icon is displayed that is gray with two stacked pictures.
If I go to me.com and manage the gallery from there, I do see a preview picture but not the key photo. Instead, I see the first photo from the project.
In Aperture 2, I did not see these behaviors.
Anyone else seeing this problem?

Yes, I noticed this too.
I can skim the gallery (like an event) but then it just gives a generic thumbnail as the key photo.

Key photo image in Album View too small

I imported a small Aperture Library into Photos to test things out. One thing I notice is that in Album View, the key photo for a folder is very small.
Here is an example:
I have tried making another photo the Key Photo, and switching back. They are always small. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I don't consider this a feature request. In the default Photos library, the key photo in Album view fills the whole square. But for a library that was created from an Aperture library, the key photo does not fill the whole square.
Is this a bug, or is there something I can do to make the key photo larger?

Can I change Web Gallery "Key Photos"?

In the album overview, I have not been able to figure out how the album chooses the "Key Photo" that represents the album.
I haven't experimented fully, but it seems that a Key Photo from an Event made into an album follows to the Web Album, but I have several albums and smart albums I also need galleries of.

Oops, there it is. "Make Key Photo" from the "Events" menu.

I'm wasting a lot of time searching for the right keyword for what I'm trying to do, ack! Please help!
My video starts with the orange linen background and then the titles swoop in.
When I export the video the image I see in Finder is this blank background.
In iPhoto, you can skim pictures the square for each event and pick a "key photo" to represent the event. I thought there was a similar feature in iMovie.
I want to skim to the frame I want to show when the file is selected in Finder, (and also the static frame that shows in a web site or YT until user clicks the Play icon) tell iMovie to make that the representative frame, and be done with it.
I have searched and searched for various keywords in help, online, and Apple support with no luck.
What is this feature called and how to make it happen? Anyone?

You may need to rebuild your iPhoto Library (by holding CMD + Option while opening iPhoto) to clear up potential inconsistencies in your library's database.

How to set the Key Photo in .Mac Web Gallery ?

Has anyone managed to set the key photo in a .Mac Web Gallery album ? The key photo is the photo used on the main page of the Web Gallery to illustrate the event.
In iPhoto, all you do is select in the left column a published .Mac Web Gallery, right-click on the photo you want to set as the key photo, and select "set as key photo".
In aperture, you can do the same in a project, but this will only set the key photo for your "all projects" view. This key photo is not used when exporting the project to .mac web gallery.
In all the web galleries I export from Aperture, the first picture is used as the key photo, it's really a problem. Any solution ?

There is a small "Header Bar" if you will in iPhoto, you can drag the photo you want to that header bar and I think that accomplishes what you want if I understand what you mean by Key Photo (the photo that shows up in e-mail if you forward the gallery to others). My wife and I stumbled on that solution as we were trying to figure it out. Actually I think wife gets the credit, she had the mouse in her hand when it happened .

IPhoto -- In Event -- Key Photos not showing up

I choose the key photo, but the event still only shows the palm tree iphoto icon.
Most of my older events still show the key photos, but now I have several that only show the palm tree.
Not sure why.
Any ideas?

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window rebuild thumbnails and if needed repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

Key photo missing after iPhoto froze

My iphoto froze while I was organizing photos. I had to force quit. When I opened it back up about 10 key photos were missing and I couldn't get them to show up.

You could try this:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
