Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive on newest MBP retina (late 2013)

So I literally ordered the late 2013 model the day it was released (October 23nd) because I had been waiting for it forever.  I got it October 25th.  That SAME DAY I used it, it started having problems.  While I could be scrolling on tumblr or Facebook, the keyboard and trackpad would randomly just stop responding.  It wouldn't move at ALL but the computer still works fine.  One time I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean and the keyboard and trackpad froze just the same without me touching anything.  I had to hold the power button down for 10 secs (the only button that worked) to shut off the computer which also LOST everything I had open.  This has been happening EVERY SINGLE DAY since I used it except one.  I called apple support and they couldn't figure out what's wrong either because it can't be anything I installed since I've only had it for a day when it first happened and all I had was google chrome installed.
The tech guy from Apple support told me to do the force quit shortcut on the keyboard if it happened again (which it did, as always) and it obviously didn't work because the keyboard was just not responding to begin with.
This kind of stuff started happening the FIRST day I got my computer four days ago, and it's been happening almost every single day; I don't think the problem is any programs I installed.  I'm thinking I got a faulty computer, which would be very unfortunate because final exams are coming up and it would be very inconvenient for me to send it back and wait for another one.  I also just put decals on it and that would go to waste as well.....
I waitressed every single night of the week for a month (and counting) in order to buy this for school and I was quite excited to have gotten it...but already problems are coming up with the computer that I spent so much money on.....this is really disappointing.  What should I do? The apple support people aren't fixing the problem and there's no apple store near me and it would suck to have to send it back to wait for another because I have exams right now....and also the money I spent on the decal.

  • Despite EFI update, Trackpad unresponsive on MacBook Pro Retina (Late 2013)

Tonight (Nov 11), my trackpad stopped working completely on my MacBook Pro Retina (Late 2013 - OS X 10.9). It does not seem to notice anything (clicks, movement, scrolling, etc.). Also my keyboard has stopped working once.
I have the Macbook Pro EFI Firmware Update (Version 1.3), which was apparently installed as of November 8th. I've read that it is supposed to fix the problem, which is odd because the issue did not start for me until after I had the update. Would be grateful for some help. Thank you.
(Currently, I'm using my Logitech Cordless Click Optical Mouse as a replacement.)

I also have experienced the same problem even though I have installed the update.
I have asked Apple to ring me for a discussion today, however, not sure what can be done if the fix doesn't do what its supposed to do.
Happy days (my first Macbook pro) not so happy!!!
I would be grateful for any thoughts as to how I can prevent the lockups

  • USB microphone not recognized by mbp, retina, late 2013, 10.10.1 Yosemite.

I bought a Behringer Xenyx302 USB preamp to connect a microphone to my mbp.  The device is not recognized by MacOS.  Preferences / Sound / Input only lists the internal microphone.  Based on other posts and documentation, I should see and entry for "USB microphone" or something like that.
The preamp has a headset jack.  I can hear the microphone working through that, so I know the mic works.
Behringer doc says that no drivers or software are required for MacOS.  15" mbp, retina, late 2013, 10.10.1 Yosemite
    Any suggestions?

Yes I have checked Parallels config along with Parallels support.  Also on the mac side it also does not see or recognize USB 2 devices

  • Diagnostics MBP retina late 2013

i want to diagnostics the hardware of my mbp retina late 2013 but while i pressing D during boot up it launch the internet recovery instead so why is it like that? and how to diagnostic for hardware problems?

Hello, did you clean wipe the drive at all? This simply means that the diagnostic tool was not found locally and the machine is booting up internet diagnostics (equivalent to option + D ) at boot. Once the spinning globe finishes, you should be able to access the diagnostic test.
You should have an Internet connection before starting Apple Diagnostics. This will enable Apple Diagnostics to recommend support resources. Additionally, if Apple Diagnostics is not found on the internal startup volume, an Internet-based version starts up instead. You can still run Apple Diagnostics without an Internet connection, but no results will be uploaded to Apple and no connection to Apple Support web pages will occur.

  • New MBP retina late 2013 initial 29GB already used

    Hello,
I just got my MBP retina late 2013, my first try of Mac from using PC for years. Out of the box I just did an upgrade, then checked the disk usage and already has around 28-29GB filled?
From the DiskUtility it is classified as "Others". I suspect this is the entire OSX Mavericks plus the standard apps? Is it normal? is it really this big?
I got a 500GB SSD so should not be an issue, but I still cannot sleep over it without knowing for sure if the 29GB usage is normal for a newly bought MBP.
    Would appreciate your feedbacks.
    Thanks!

Quite normal - everything in "Other" includes the OS, any user documents, etc. -> anything that doesn't neatly fit into the "Photos," Movies," etc. categories.
For info on the Storage tab, see -> The Storage Display.
Hope that you enjoy your new Mac!!

  • Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive on Late 2013 15" MBP Retina w/ Nvidia graphics

I just got my a new 15" retina MacBook Pro and am experiencing trackpad and keyboad unresponsiveness. The issue doesn't resolve itself with a restart. I can unblock myself by doing an SMC reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) but after some arbitrary amout of time, the keyboard and trackpad become unresponsive again. I can connect a USB mouse and keyboard or bluetooth mouse and keyboard and those will work. HELP!

  • Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive on retina macbook pro

The keyboard and the trackpad on my 1 month old retina display stopped working.
Restart and PRAM resets don't work and holding down D to start hardware test does not work.
Power button works, so the keyboard and trackpad might work after couple of restarts.
    i7 2.6, 16gb, 256
    Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    Any ideas?

If you want to try a hardware test, try holding down option-D (works for me for some reason). However...
If a SMC reset doesn't fix anything, then I would take the machine into your local Apple Store or AASP. You shouldn't be having such problems with a new machine.
Try the SMC reset first - I doubt that it will fix anything.

  • Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive intermittently

The keyboard and mouse on my MacBook air (Second gen) suddeny stopped became unresponsive in any program other than the boot selection screen (that appears when holding 'option' on boot up). I rebooted tha machine several times under different operating systems (Windows 7, Recover Disk and OS X installation USB) and the only button that worked was the on/off button. Just as suddenly the keyboard and trackpad started to respond again.
I would like to know if there is a known cause of this as I would like to know if it may happen again in the future.

Try to boot from install disc and see is how acts your touchpad and keyboard.
You can lauch OS install (press and hold "C" during grey screen at startup). You need to continue install, but you will see are your keyboard and touchpad working or not.
You can run Apple Hardware Test also (press and hold "D" during grey screen at startup).

  • Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive after computer is woken from sleep or battery runs out

I am having problems after my battery runs out completely or when I open my macbook  a day later with the battery charged. If my battery runs out, after I plug it in and turn it on, the first thing that appears is the login page and there is a dark grey background instead of my normal blurred background, and the user picture is shifted to the right. After I enter my password a small white bar at the bottom loads and my normal login page loads, but this time my keyboard and trackpad are unresponsive. I have to wait for the display to go to sleep, close my macbook and then open it for my keyboard and trackpad to work. Sometimes I have to repeat this process more than once. The same thing happens when I wake up my computer with full battery after a nights sleep, and instead of being able to wake it up just by opening the lid I have to turn it on with the power button. Please help I know this isn't normal behavior. I have already reset the SMC and PRAM with no success and this problem was there before and after I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite.
    Thanks

if any one ever has this problem, i figured it out. you have to reset the PRAM AND NVRAM. to do so...
hold down the command+option+P+R keys before starting the computer and wait for 2 start up tones. done and done.

  • Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive after sleep

I've had this problem a few times since I got a refurbished MBA a few weeks ago.
In preferences, I have it set to require a password when waking up. Most of the time, this goes fine, but sometimes I get the login screen with my username and the cursor blinking in the password field, but there is no response when I touch the keyboard or try to use the trackpad. I try pressing every key and combination I can think of, including the Force Quit combo (cmd-opt-esc). Nothing.
It also sometimes just has a black screen, and again nothing I do causes any response. In those cases, if I close the lid and then reopen it after a few seconds, I get the login screen, but the keyboard and trackpad don't work.
The only solution has been to turn it off and on again with the power switch, which is obviously not the most efficient way to wake up a sleeping computer.
    Any suggestions?

Try resetting your SMC and PRAM.

  • MBP Retina Late 2013 backlight bleeding

    Hello,
after two weeks i purchased brand new macbook pro 13 retina late 2013.
Everything seems fine, but today I noticed a problem with the screen.
When the brightness is at 100% and the screen is black in the lower left corner there is a greenish color.
I guess this is the backlight bleeding.
    Attach a picture of problem.
I guess this is a manufacturing defect and should consult with service?
    10x in advance!

Hello everyone, I have been trying all solutions to this problem with no success. Finally I tried downloading the driver from NVIDIA, this required me to allow NVIDIA to scan my system to find my proper driver. After finding and installing the new driver I had full control over brightness. I've been using my MBP for about a day and a half with no problems for the brightness. I hope this helps everyone.

  • WLAN trouble MBP Retina Late 2013

    Hi,
for months now I am suffering from the following problem:
    WLAN connections dropping
reconnects sometimes do not work immediately but result in the "cannot connect" message. After several tries this works.

This happens with all sorts of with WLAN stations:
    public hotspots
    Airport Extreme
    UniFi systems
    mobile personal hotspots
    Aerohive
    etc.
So I doubt it is a configuration problem on the WLAN. Moreover I cannot reproduce this in the same environments with other Apple products (Macbook Air, iPhone). It happens with 10.9 and 10.10. Is there any idea what might be causing this? I have no USB3 attached. Yes bluetooth is on and I still have to figure out if it only happens in the 2.4Ghz band. However even if it is 2.4Ghz related again: Other systems operating on 2.4Ghz nearby do not have these problems. Moreover 802.11ac is working however even sitting 3m away from a suitable AC access point with direct line of sight does not guarantee me to get a AC connection. Somehow I suspect this to be a driver or even hardware problem.
    Kind regards,
      JP

  • GPT partition inhibiting windows 8.1 install on MBP retina late 2013

Hi there, looking for some help!
Trying to install win 8.1 on my MPB retina late 2013 using bootcamp.
Bootcamp makes the partition but then the windows installer does not automatically start (Bootcamp help says it should.. Original full windows disk is in superdrive).
Restarting pressing "option/alt" gives me the choice to start "windows".
    This starts the windwows installer.
Seems fine untill I need to select a disk to install windows onto.
Choosing "Drive 0 Partition 4: BOOTCAMP"  Does not work.
it says "windows cannot be installed on drive 0 partition 4"
    Same after pressing "Format"
    Details show:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style"
I saw a solution to a problem like this:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23545484#23545484
But I expect that this would not be nessecary anaymore.
Windows 8.1 is supposed te be supported by Bootcamp nowadays.
    My Bootcamp is:
Boot Camp Assistant 5.1.1, Copyright © 2013 Apple Inc. All rights reserved
Software update says no updates are available for my machine.
    Anyone?

delete partition bootcamp created in windows installer
and let windows installer create new one (it will create 4)
after that, IF installer won't to able to write on partition created, reset pram http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379 start installer again by booting with ALT + Option
it will be able to write to the partition it created

Open Boot Camp Assistant (in Utilities) print out the instructions, setup Windows on its own partition, insall and run Windows natively, not much difference than on any laptop.
