  • Keyboard Backlighting Problem

    Hello,
Recently, if i use the f5 or f6 keys to raise or lower the level of illumination on my laptops keyboard, the semi-transparent window comes up with the horizontal bar and the blocks to indicate brightness level, but has a O with a slash through it underneath the row of blocks, and neither keys have any effect.
I went to system preferences, enabled "illuminate keyboard in low light conditions" and it lit right up. I then tried to use the keys once it was already lit in this manner, and they functioned RIGHT until I uncovered the iSight camera (I covered it to cut off all light).
    Any help?
Thanks in advance, and Happy Holidays!

Just to add to eww's observations, it seems to me that the location of the sensor in the upper bezel next to the iSight camera adds to the problems quite a bit. I find myself that the light falling on this point can be quite different from that falling on the keyboard itself. Simply changing the angle of the screen, or altering ones sitting position can produce substantial variations in the behaviour of the backlight. We have high "clerestory" windows in our house for example, and if I sit with my back to them the light hitting the light sensor can be far greater than the light falling on the keyboard itself.
I can see pluses in the location , too, especially on a small keyboard like the 13" one where ones hands would be likely to interefere with illumination levels, but by and large I think the location on the early MBPs under the speaker grids on either side of the keyboard was superior.
Maybe rather than using "blackout" tape, some sort of semi transparent filter material over the sensor would be an option?
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Problems with Droid Pro keyboard backlight problem

The keyboard backlight on the Mororola Droid Pro goes out when it is totally dark ever since OTA to 2.3.3.  Any suggestions for a fix (don't say battery pull, yada, yada (doesn't work), or click home twice then backspace (not a true fix, but a workaround) or rooting the phone (doesn't fix).    Seems to be a software glitch.  Backlight qworked well in 2.2.

Why cant Verizon pushout OTA update to fix the problem instead of making all of us come to the store for a reflash? It would make more sense IMHO.

I understand your frustration and I'm here to help.
I have researched the issue with the backlight on the Droid Pro and found that other user have had this same issue after the software update. Other users have found that performing a hard reset and then taking the phone into a store and having the device software flashed has fixed their issue with the backlight. I suggest you try the hard reset and then take your phone in to a VZW store to have flashed.
If you continue to have issues after the hard reset and flash, please post back and I will be more than happy to further assist you.

Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Keyboard backlight problem...

So last week I accidentally spilled some milk on the keyboard/trackpad of my Macbook Pro, that is fairly new. They both are working fine now. The keys were a bit sticky at first, but now they seem to be okay (although I can still see some of the sticky milk in between the keys). The only thing is that only the center keys backlight works well, then the rest are very, very dim. How do I go about fixing this?

New/in-warranty? Take it in for evaluation and see if Apple will fix it. If no warranty, you can risk lifting up the keycaps and cleaning out the mess. How-To and spare keycaps (in case one breaks) can be [found here|http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Keyboards--Keys-p-1-c-440.html].

  • Windows 7 - Disable Keyboard Backlight?

Hey. I've recently purchased a new 17" Macbook Pro and managed to install Windows 7 x64 Ultimate through Boot Camp 3.1. Overall cool, but... has anyone managed to disable keyboard backlight on in Windows? It's just too aggressive, and jumps from time to time even if I set it to minimum. As to me, VERY annoying. Why I can't disable it? All I can do is minimize keyboard backlight level, but it jumps up again soon. Just any help is highly appreciated.
    K.R., Fred.

interesting coincidence just registered to ask same question. yes the same here man. macbook air with bootcamp 3.0 is `mr. too bright keyboard`))) i'm searching for workaround to turn off auto adjustment. yes bad auto adjustment logic in bootcamp is the reason. but no workaround yet found for windows 7 64bit.

  • T440p turn on keyboard backlight at startup automatically

    Hi
Is there a way to do this at Windows 7 / 8???
I know that it's not possible from the BIOS but there must be an utility there which turns on the keyboard backlight at every windows startup and keep it on regardless of what.
Also I would like it to be turned back on when the computer comes out of sleep/hibernation.
Does anyone know a software for this?
    Thanks

Maybe from lenovo software but there must be another windows utility for this.
In linux manipulating leds are possible through /sys/class/leds/tcapi
The person who I want to give this computer as a gift is completely computer analfabet and she would love to have the backlight to be turned on all the time.

  • Problem with Macbook Pro early 2011, webcam not working in any apps and windows 7 or 8 on bootcamp, keyboard backlight not working?

    Hi Guys
I recently bought a second hand early 2011 Macbook Pro 15 inch and are having 2 problems. The first is that none of the apps detects my webcam at all, the second is, i have Windows 8 installed on bootcamp but are unable to get the keyboard backlight to work in 7 or 8. The backlight works perfect in os x 10.8.5 though. I need a little bit of help guys.....

Go to Apple Menu / About This Mac. Click on More Info ... next on System Report. In the left hand column, under Hardware, select USB. The right side will show the USB Device Tree. Look through that and check for "Built-in iSight". That is your camera. If it is not listed the camera is not working.
For backlighting, try this: go to System Preferences / Keyboard. Uncheck "Adjust keyboard lighting in low light".

  • Omen 5012 firmware update, keyboard backlight color problems

When upgrading from F.09 to F.23, the ability to control the keyboard backlight colors went away, as discussed by OP. When checking the available firmware updates, HP Support Advisor showed new firmware and 3 other downloads, as of 30 July. Then, I pressed check for updates, and all the entries disappeared, now HPSA says there are no updates available. In any event, where can I download the latest firmware, and has this fixed the inability to control the keyboard backlight colors.

The website detects what OS you are on, so searching for it within Win10 will show you only what is qualified for Windows 10.
From the link below, can you change the OS:

The link for BIOS F24a is: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71501.exe
Now, let me run this on my Omen first! This was writin for Win8 and may cause problems running in Windows 10!Let me be the guinea pig.

  • Satellite S55 BIOS update to 1.60 has a problem with UEFI keyboard backlight control

I recently updated my BIOS to version 1.60 from 1.50. The update went well. However now the setting for the keyboard backlight control will not hold my setting. I don't wish the backlight to illuminate as it will use up power. When I enter my UEFI and change the setting to "OFF", then save and exit, the keyboard illumination appears to operate as expected. However, following a Windows restart, or shutdown and boot, the UEFI setting resets to "TIMER" with "Backlight Lighting Time" set to 0. If I leave the mode set to "Timer", and set "Backlight Lighting Time" to 10, again the backlight appears to operate properly. But a reboot resets the time to 0. I thought possibly I was not saving and exiting UEFI properly. To test this, I change the setting for the "Internal USB3.0 Controller from "Enable" to "Disable", then also set the backlight control to "OFF", did a save/exit. I found that the USB3.0 remained disabled, but the backlight control again reset to "Timer". The BIOS update was provided by the Toshiba Service Station app as an optional update, so it should be the right one for my laptop. Any help would be appreciated.
My laptop is a Satellite S55-A5295 and is running Windows 8.1 with BIOS 1.60 and EC 1.20.

Thank you for your response. When I purchased the laptop, I also bought a 2-year repair plan with Geek Squad.  I took the device to the tech and it was his opinion that there might be a bug in the BIOS I installed.  I asked if we could retro the BIOS to a previous version and he told me he didn't recommend it as there are always risks when updating the BIOS.  He said it wasn't worth it as the device was stable with no other known issues besides the keyboard lighting.  He recommended I contact Toshiba support to document the problem.  This I did.  However, I was told by Toshiba I was beyond my complimentary support and would have to pay $49 to correct the issue.  I agreed to purchase the support.  The tech had me try various resets including the hardware reset button but to no avail.  At this point the tech informed me that I can always press "Fn-z" to cycle the lights off after boot/restart, and that my support time was ending.  I only hope that the problem is with the BIOS and not with hardware such as BIOS memory, and that a new firmware update will correct the problem. I appreciate this forum and the people that are trying to help others correct their problems.  Please keep up the good work.

  • ...Another Spill. MBP Keyboard Backlight/trackpad problem

    Hello,
A friend (yes he remains a friend) recently spilled red wine all over my new Macbook Pro. I was very upset at first, but have calmed down... after several weeks. I've dried it out and I'm taking it to Apple to get it cleaned.
The only clear problems that exist at the moment: the keyboard is not illuminating fully, it is only bright in the middle; the tap-to-click feature on the trackpad has a one-second delay before any command is registered.
The problem with the keyboard backlight, i think, is due to wine staining the sheet of plastic separating the keyboard from the LEDs behind it. Could anyone suggest a means of cleaning this or any other method of reviving the backlight, IF they have not short-circuited.
Any suggestions other than getting Apple to help with the unresponsive trackpad?
    Thanks
    Jamie

What I was trying to communicate when I added "which will also include the trackpad" to a previous post was that the top case, the keyboard, the trackpad and various other internal parts that are attached to the inside of the top case will ALL be replaced when Apple repairs the machine, because Apple considers the whole assembly to be one part. Cleaning the keyboard effectively is impossible, but it would be pointless even if it were possible, because Apple is just going to discard or recycle it. When Apple repairs a machine, it comes back in virtual like-new condition — there are no partial repairs. You may prefer not to spring for a complete overhaul, but that's what you're going to get — and pay for — regardless.

  • Problem: keyboard backlighting on Macbook Pro (2011) with OSX Lion.

I have the System Preferences option "Illuminate automatically in low light" disabled. However, when I wake the computer from sleep and the login screen appears, the backlight of the keyboard lights up. Despite the fact that I did not ask for this, although it is really something useful, so I'm not opposed to it. But once I enter the session, the keyboard backlight stays on. Entering the session to make things worse, the machine seems to "think" that the lighting is off, because I press the button to decrease (F5 key) but does not decrease the backlight of the keyboard. Instead I have to first increase the backlight, and reduce it in order to disable it.
Also, if you do the procedure to decrease the light of the keyboard and enter the session, when the screen off (in my case after 5 minutes) stays on the keyboard! If you type the shortcut to turn off the screen Control + Shift + Eject is the same.
Well, I'm looking for a way to: 1. ensure that the backlight of the keyboard is turned off upon login, or 2. completely, 100%, totally disable any auto-enable the keyboard backlight.
One solution is to completely disable the unwanted backlight keyboard. I need to be able to call it manually whenever you want.
This is a bug or feature the same system? Someone has gone or is going through this?
    Thank you for listening.

After upgrading to the Mountain Lion over the Lion, the backlight of the keyboard problem was solved! Now the system understands that wish to leave the backlight off.
Now connect your MacBook to the first login screen backlight is already off. By switching users even through the login screen backlight does not turn over. I tested the backlight and is working properly.
So I believe it was a serious bug that happened to me the Lion.

  • Problem with Keyboard Backlight

Ok the keyboard backlight starts to turn on and off when it is in use, but the problem stops when i have it very low (1 or 2 niches) or a least it isn't noticeable. Has anyone had this problem?
Also when the keyboard starts to turn on and off the screen brightness also starts to change.
Any feedback is appreciated. The laptop is only one day old

Yes i have tried with th ambient light adjuster on and off, but the backlight keep going wild when they turn on. My fear is that with time it will completely stop working or it affects the screen in some way.
I have noticed that the screen is really bright, can this affect the sensor for the backlight on the keyboard?

  • Keyboard backlighting not working when using Windows in Boot Camp

Hi, I'm posting this for a friend with a new Macbook Air. He says that his keyboard backlighting does not work when he is using it for Windows (don't know which, but probably Vista). Any ideas why? Thanks. Gary

Install all the drivers needed when running boot camp - try for example inserting a DVD - then press the eject key - See if it comes out - If it doesn't install all the drivers - try Control Panel - If not try re-installing your version of Windows.
