Keyboard just stopped working

Hi
I am coming to you from the arch fallback... in the normal arch my keyboard won't work (I can't even log in). It was working, but after I removed my sound card (it was a X-fi so it won't work) my keyboard stopped working after a reboot. I don't presume they are related, but the keyboard stopping in general is just weird. Like I said, it worked 10 mins ago just fine.
Any suggestions?

Thanks--that worked. Unfortunately, I can't switch between the arch and arch fallback options in GRUB because my keyboard doesn't "come online" until arch boots up. Is there a way to fix this? It seems like there is a system way of handling the keyboard (with usb legacy) and an arch way, and they conflict with each other, so I can use my keyboard in one place (bootup, bios, grub, etc.) or another (in arch).
Also, how does the fallback work exactly? It was the exact same as normal arch... it even had my saved session with the right FF tabs open to the right pages. If it copies arch so well, why didn't it have the keyboard problem as well?

  • Help me!  My keyboard just stopped working!

I just bought my MacBook at an Apple Store today. For several hours, I was enjoying it, no problem whatsoever. Later in the night, I was talking with friends and my keyboard just suddenly died on me. The trackpad, too.
Thankfully I had the leftover keyboard and mouse from my old G3.
Could somebody please tell me what is going on?

The same thing is happening on my brand new MacBook - yesterday it froze six times in seven hours (was using it all day). With no warning, the cursor freezes and the trackpad won't get it moving again. All the other applications that were open are still working, I just can't deselect the programme that has frozen - and it's happened when I'm in Safari, iPhoto, Word, so it's not just one busted application.
When it happens, I can't Apple-Option-Escape as none of the keys respond. The only thing I can do is turn the thing off with the button. Even the 'restart/log off/shut down?' popup that appears can't be moved around in, so I've just got to hold down the off button and power it up again. Once it even froze whilst loading up, on the first blue screen. I couldn't even move the cursor to click OK to log on!
I'll try taking out the battery and hope for the best - I can't think of anything else, it's not running too hot or anything. Hopefully it will resolve itself, or I can find an answer...

  • Shift keys in my apple wired keyboard just stopped working.. any ideas how to fix it/

seriously. this is a pain. i cant do capitals, only USE ALL CAPS to do any basic punctuation. seems that both of the shif keys stopped working .i've looked to see if i could take it apart but it apparently would ruin it in the process.. any suggestions on what to do next to try and fix the problem/

Do a SMC reset first, let us know if that works.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • HT2452 my imac keyboard has stopped working? help!!!

my imac keyboard has stopped working??? help!!!!!

My keyboard just stopped working out of the clear. One minuet OK next it was dead. No little green light at all. New batteries did not help.
FIXED THE PROBLEM!  I took a small piece of aluminum, made a little ball out of it and dropped it down the tube where the batteries go. Replaced the batteries I had just used......little green light comes on and the the keyboard functions like always.
My guess is after a few years the contacts oxidize a bit and don't make contact with the batteries on the bottom of the tube. Give it a try.

  • Why do some keyboard shortcuts just stop working?

Since upgrading to Lion, some of my keyboard shortcuts - especially one for Mail - just stops working now and then and the only thing I can figure out to fix it is to restart the macbook.
The main one I've had trouble with is ⌘+ enter to send a message.
It seems (unreal, I know) that certain messages disable it in replies.
Any other way you can think of to reset the keystroke other than restarting?
    Thanks
    Tom

    Hi there
Sounds like the project has somehow become corrupt. You may need to create a new project and copy/paste slides. You may also find that this will transfer over the issue. So it could be limited to a specific slide or even a single object on a slide.

I found a way to fix it. Simply restart the dock by using "killall Dock" in the terminal.

  • NF 980 PS2 Mouse & Keyboard PS2 IC just stopped working.

Hello, My PS2 Mouse & Keyboard intergrated circuit connections just stopped working. My Rig is only 6weeks old & was using Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. Everything was fine untill yesterday. all of a sudden the connections don't work. I tried doing a system restore. rebooted several times, unplugged & reconnected both mouse & Keyboard plugs to the PS2 connections & still not being recognized at boot up. I plugged in a USB Mouse & Keyboard adaptor & is working fine. I'm thinking something happend to the IC chip. Are these Mobo's known for this problem? I don't think I'm going to RMA the Mobo unless something else happens.
Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

    Hey Fredrik,
Thank you very much. All I did was shut down & remove the power plug like you suggested & removed the USB Mouse/Keyboard adaptor, & plugged back into the PS2 IC Connections, & it's working great.
     Could you explain what happen?
    Hi,
Keyboards and mice have electronic circuitry.  When you just reboot or reset the machine, voltage still goes to the peripherals like the keyboard and mouse.
It sounds like, for some reason, the keyboard and mouse got into a non-working state, but when you rebooted or reset your machine, since power was still going to the keyboard and mouse, they didn't get reset.
When you unplugged the power, that removed power from everything (well, almost), including the peripherals, so that would've reset the keyboard and mouse.
If you have an external/USB hard drive, you can see this behavior by watching the drive light.  When you shutdown your machine, the drive light will stay on, unless you unplug from the wall, or flip the switch on the back of the power supply.

  • Keyboard & Mousepad Just Stops Working

About 4 days ago, my Pbook G4 would just suddenly stop letting me type or move the mouse. What ever was going on in the screen continues to work normally, but the keyboard doesn't. The only button still functional is the power button. I tried plugging in an external keyboard and mouse, but that was useless. Can anyone help?
Also, the only most recent thing I had done was install the Safari update that my software update asked me too.
    Thanks for any help!

I had same problem and had keyboard replaced at Apple authorized repair center. Keyboard still stops working on occasion. Problem started earlier this year. I believe it is software related.

  • The "enter" key on the numeric keypad of my external mac keyboard has stopped working. Help!

The "enter" key on the numeric keypad of my external mac keyboard has stopped working with my Macbook pro.  If I plug the keyboard into any other computer, that entier key works fine. I'm using a standard Mac wired keyboard, & it's worked fine for 2 years now. Help!
This is the keyboard I am using: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB110LL/B/apple-keyboard-with-numeric-keypad
Not sure what I might have accidentily done to disable the enter key. (The normal enter key works fine, just the one on the numeric keypad.)
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi there,
Do you have any resolution to this problem in the end? Because it happened to me an exact same thing.
Please share if you have found a solution to your problem. I also cannot think of what I did wrong to disable the Enter key.

  • Help?  My BT Wireless just stopped working (BT Mouse is OK)

Normally the wireless keyboard that came with the iMac (intel) is reliable, its about 4 yrs old now
but today - it just stopped working?
Although it shows (menu) as being connected (BT) and Batteries are at 100%,  I can no longer get
keyboard output... and this applies to any running application.
Its not been dropped or mistreated - its just stopped working. I have restarted the iMac but to no avail.
I am using the older USB Keyboard as a stop gap.
    My queries are;
         1. Has this keyboard just simply worn out or developed an internal fault ??
         2. Has anyone else experienced this or had similar problems ??
         3. Is there some way I can check the integrity of the BT or the Keyboards communications with the iMac ?
All help to solving this problem - will be most appreciated
Running Mac OSX 10.9.4 on Intel iMac (2CD) 8GB RAM

    Hi Barry.
    Thanks for your response.....
As mentioned I did restart the iMac which I believe also resets the PR (chime) during that  process.
However I will try specifically zapping the PR - several times like the old days and Mac OS 9.
    and come back to you

  • My 13" macbook just stopped working. When you turn it on you get a white screen and hear a repetitive clicking sound on the left side. Is this the hard drive? Any suggestions on replacement drives?

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

    Hello there, LaruaGalliers.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great troubleshooting steps for your issue:
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
    Particularly:
    Battery does not charge
Verify that the outlet being used is working.
Try another USB power adapter if available.
If no other USB power adapter is available, try connecting to a high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode.
Try another USB cable if available.
iPhone or iPod touch displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive
If you see the image below, charge the iPhone or iPod touch with USB power adapter for at least 15 minutes.
You should see this image when iPhone or iPod touch begins to charge:
If the screen still displays the low-battery icon, try turning the iPhone or iPod touch off and then on again.
If the issue persists, follow these troubleshooting steps.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.
