Keyboard typing errors

My recently purchased HP laptop frequently introduces keyboard typing errors.  The cursor will jump to different locations while typing, will introduce unrequested commands, such as erasing, jumping to different pages, etc. I have turned off the fingerpad and the errors continue.  Is there a cure?

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music'  then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

  • How to undo typing errors on an iPad?

How do I undo typing errors on my iPad without deleting backwards through several words?
    Jean

    Manipulating and editing text ....
Hold down on the area that you want to select until a blue line appears. Tap on it again and another pop up appears with the options to select, select all or paste. If you select all, all of the copy on the page or within the text block in which it was created will be highlighted in blue. An option to cut, copy or place appears. Two blue vertical lines will be on both ends of the text block. You can select the blue dot on one of those lines and drag it to select exactly the text that you want to manipulate.
If you choose select - then blue lines will be on either side of that word only. You get the cut, copy, paste or replace options. You can once again drag the lines with the blue dots to select text. If you drag the line to select more text, you get the cut, copy or paste options.
Cut is self explanatory, copy will put that text in the invisible iPad clipboard and you can select another area in your document in which to paste that copy or you can paste into any other document or field that will accept text.  Replace is when the iPad will auto correct a word from it's dictionary if the word you have typed does not "make sense" to the iPad.

  • CS3 Language Keyboard Input Error

    Greetings All,
I have been trouble-shooting this problem for a while, but still it is not resolved. Any help or ideas would be gladly received!
Background: We have a correctly functioning installation of Win XP, and PS CS3 Extended which appears to work normally in every other regard. No obvious errors; no crashes, no start-up complaints; nothing seemingly out of order. I use several installed languages in Windows (EngUK, Russian, Swedish, etc). All of these work normally. All of my installed fonts work correctly in every application on the system except for CS3.
There would appear to be something wrong with CS3's keyboard mapping in foreign languages. When typing with a non-English keyboard setting (any other language) and using TrueType fonts (not Open), only 'missing character' boxes appear in the artwork. The Layers menu displays the typed text correctly, but this will not appear in the artwork. If I use an old install of PS7, I can type using these same fonts correctly in any language. These layers can be imported into CS3, and these WILL display correctly on the artwork. However, the Layers menu in this case displays nonsensical characters. Ergo, I suspect that CS3's keyboard input data is errant.
Where does PS3 keep its information regarding language / keyboard layout? It is possible to edit this file(s)? Are there any other ideas regarding this problem and what might be wrong?
    Thanks

  • Urgent Help! Palm Zire 31 Universal Keyboard typing gibberish!

Hi everyone! I recently got my brother's PalmOne Zire 31 (yes, I know it's considered ancient these days), and his PalmOne universal wireless keyboard.
Anyhow, after installing the drivers and programs, my brother and I set up the keyboard on the stand and pushed the infrared arm up in various directions, and found that something weird was happening. Wherever there was an IR signal, the keyboard was typing in giberrish; for example: control= s, tab= f, etc.
Does anyone know how I can fix this problem, possibly without any hardware repair ? Thanks a lot! By the way, if harware repair is necessary, could you give me an estimate for how much it can be?
    Post relates to: Palm Pilot

Well, thanks for the response, and I understand that it's the weekend and so on. However, how do you expect me to know terms like "wand."
Do you mean the IR arm? Please be more specific next time. Anyways, once I have the arm up 90 degrees, where do I put the post-it? At the top? Cover the whole thing in post-its?
You don't simply "put a bandage on the body." You put it where there's a cut. So please, give me clear, specific directions.
In addition to the above, today my Palm just crashed when I went to the media option. It gave some weird Windows media error, then had a black text part at the bottum saying "Reset." After resetting it, the PalmOne Powered signal came on, and whenever I pushed the reset button, there was no avail; just a black screen, no matter how many times I'd press it, or how long I'd do it. The battery just died, so I put it back on charge (no noise whether or not it is/isn't charging). I don't know what's with these devices @_@. Sheesh, you leave them out for a year and they just go completely crazy.
Anyhow ,thanks for your time in helping me solve this.

  • How to enable an apple french (azerty) wireless keyboard to type in french whilst retaining the normal inbuilt qwerty keyboard typing in english?

Hi there, I recently bought an apple wireless azerty French keyboard to go with my English macbook air, as for my degree I often have to type in French. However, upon connecting it to the macbook air it instantly started typing as though it had the qwerty layout and only by going on system preferences and changing the language & text imput sources to French was I able to get it to type in the correct azerty manner.
The problem I have is that this also changed my macbook's inbuilt qwerty keyboard to the azerty format, and so I wondered if anyone could tell me how I can make the wireless azerty keyboard instantly be recognised as typing in the french format when I turn it on, whilst retaining my inbuilt keyboard's qwerty layout, rather than constantly having to change them both in system preferences?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    That's not possible.
But switching keyboard layouts is very simple.  Either use the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen or the keyboard shortcut apple/command plus space.
If you don't see the ¨flag¨, check the box for Show Input Menu in Menu Bar in the Input Sources pane.
If the keyboard shortcut doesn´t work, you may have to change the shortcut for Spotlight, which is often the same.

  • Macbook Pro keyboard typing in random letters and symbols with certain keys

My mother is not a very tech savvy person. We recently upgraded her Windows PC to a Macbook Pro. A few days ago she went to some website about working from home. I'm pretty sure it was a scam website. Anyway after that the keyboard started acting weird.
Certain keys will either not work or just type random keystrokes. The keys that I know of are
    7= 123477
    U= IOTUYw
    J= adfgjs
M= Will sometimes minimize the active window and other times will type out random symbols (æ∆¬)
    :; key= 0 - Esc, and changes the volume
' key= Tab, random symbols, enables caps lock
    Eject Key= § changes volume
I had Sophos Anti Virus installed on it, and after running a full scan it didn't come up with anything. To be safe i decided to completely wipe her Macbook. I also did the 7-pass DOD Standard erase.
After that i resinstalled Lion on her computer. After restarting the same issue persists. I tried seeing if there was an OSX update that needed to be installed, and that didnt fix anything. I also ran the Apple hardware test. It came up with no issues.
I also checked to see if foriegn keyboards were turned on, etc.
I have no idea what to do now. Using my bluetooth keyboard works fine. The keys type what they should. She says he hasn't spilt anything on it, but she works as a daycare provider and sometimes the little kids watch movies or youtube videos on it.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I just spent hour trying to fix tihs on my iMac and could find the answer so I wanted to post it for someone else. Mine was typing in crazy symbols (åß∂ƒ©).
Also I could not Command + Tab (shoot me), and when I clicked on a window in another app it hid the windows I was working in.
I tried new keyboards. And the system preferences stuff - system preferences - language & text - input sources. then select US. This didn't fix it.
Then I tried to change the keyboard shortcuts in the same window - spotlight (on left), unclick the show spotlight search field and the other one bellow. Then hit the com + Spacebar. This didn't fix it.
Then i did it and double check that i did it right and still didn't fix it.
So I called apple support and they gave me the magical key to fix this.
Turn off your computer. Unplug for 30 sec, and everything attached. Then power it back on and hurry and hold Command + Option + P + R. I held Command + Option + P with one hand and then after I hit power I added the R.
The computer will make one chime. Keep holding it. I will then shut down and make one more chime and you can let go.

  • Apple Pro Wireless Keyboard Typing Lag

I have been running this old keyboard on my W7 machine,(not through Boot Camp) and recently it has been lagging really badly when typing in most every program. It seems like the keys are sticking, but it happens to almost every key (except caps lock and the like). I have tried replacing the batteries, and it doesn't seem to help any. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x86, with the Microsoft drivers.

    Hello h:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Try a couple of things. If they do not work, call Applecare with a warranty issue (the KB may be faulty)
    Reset the PRAM
    Reset the SMC.
Instructions for both are in knowledge base articles.

  • [Solved] xorg server & keyboard conf error messages after upgrade

I ran my daily upgrade (today was big, from FF to the kernel to xorg) and I was not able to login on GDM afterwards.
It's weird. The X server will start, and so will the GDM login screen. But entering the password will result in a GDM crash (I later found out that KDM and SLIM have the same issue; KDM not starting and SLIM refusing the keyboard input). So after starting an alternate console and trying to start x (startx), I have this error message:
"Th e XKEYBOARDMAP keymap compiler (xbcomp) reports:
Error: Cannot close "/tmp/server-0.xkm" properly (not enough space?)
              Output file "/tmp/server-0.xkm" removed
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
    XKB: Failed to compile keymap
Keyboard initialization failed. This could be a missing or incorrect setup of xkeyboard-config.
    Fatal server error:
Failed to activate core devices "
I have been fiddling with the keyboard config on xorg.conf but I'm not sure I'm getting anywhere. Also, I downgraded the xorg-server and xkeyboard config packages just to be sure.
    Any clue?
    Thanks!

Well... seems I didn't have any answer on this. I fiddled a bit more but I have to say that I really came to wits' end at this stage. A couple of observations though:
    * I don't really understand this notion of a keyboard issue. My keyboard and its layout work properly but I will not be able to login regardless of login through GDM, KDM or Slim. Yet it's worth noting that in the case of GDM and SLIM the X server starts; I see the graphical interface, I click, etc. but when I type the trouble starts.
    * I tried to check my xsessions-errors file. The file is really big under a frame buffer, and it wasn't clear to me, but I found strange that the log was reporting all sorts of attempts to start KDE. I don't exactly know what's going on.
If anybody has any clue, let me know... It's becoming very frustrating.
    Thanks!

  • Keyboard/typing problem

I was trying out the new MacBooks in the Apple Store last night and encountered a weird problem when typing on any MacBook I auditioned. Periodically when I was typing a sentence the cursor would do one of the following:
--- jump up one line and continue typing the current word in the middle of a previously completed line
--- delete the last word I typed
--- delete the last entire line I typed
I'm a very fast typist so it was hard for me to figure out what exactly was going on, but my suspicion is that some part of my hand, in the normal typing motion, is gently brushing some part of the trackpad (or else my pinky finger is inadvertantly pushing on the up/down/right/left arrow keys just to the right of normal typing position), causing these unwanted commands to be executed in the midst of typing.
I tried the same test on the MacBook Pro and never had any problems, so unless there is some technical glitch in all MacBooks (highly unlikely) I suspect it is an ergonomic problem with my (fairly traditional) typing style and the design of the MacBook.
Has anyone else experienced these sorts of issues with their MacBooks? I was thinking of getting one but as its primary purpose would be for writing it's completely out of the question unless I can circumvent this problem... (and the MacBook Pro is a bit pricey for me...)
    Thanks...

You're exactly right. The reason the cursor is jumping and misplacing your text is that your hand is brushing the trackpad, which is itself probably set to allow clicking. You can get rid of this behaviour by checking the 'Ignore accidental trackpad input' button in the system preferences panel.
Unfortunately, this is a bit of double-edged sword as checking the box also leaves you with an occasional but nevertheless unpleasant trackpad input lag when, for example, creating or closing Safari tabs.
The MacBook Pros reportedly also had similar issues but some people claim it was remedied with the release of a software update for the keyboard. Who knows. I just know that I never had any such issues with my 12in G4 PB.

  • Intermittent Keyboard Typing

That's not a good subject description but I have been experiencing a situation in which the keyboard stops entering characters. The cursor keys function but no characters are displayed on the screen even though they are entered on the keyboard. It is an intermittent problem and seems to happen more with Excel and Word. I have tried plugging the keyboard into different USB ports but that doesn't seem to help. This is on a new Mac Mini with OS 10.5.8 and the keyboard is the new Apple aluminum one.
BTW, The Mac mini has 5 USB ports but when I use the System Profiler, it only shows 4 USB ports; 2 USB Bus ports and two USB High-Speed Bus ports. Does it matter which port the keyboard uses? I would think it best to save the High-Speed ports for a printer, etc. and plug the keyboard into one of the other. Could this be a clue to the problem?

I have been living with this intermittent keyboard problem since last fall but recently I have experienced a worse problem where Excel just quits and the Mac does a fast restart (ie, the screen goes blue, then returns to the normal screen with no applications loaded). The spreadsheet I was in comes back as "Recovered". This occurs with the same spreadsheet so perhaps it was corrupted somehow.
What I have done is de-install MS Office 2004 and re-install from the original CDs then do all the updates up to 11.5.5. So far this "crashing" problem has not re-occurred even with the problem spreadsheet.
However, I have still experienced the intermittent typing issue so I'm becoming convinced it it an Apple problem perhaps with Rosetta. Other posts on other Forums (eg., this MS one: www.officeformac.com/ms/ProductForums/Excel/2772/0 ) seem to support that.
SO, I APPEAL TO APPLE AND MICROSOFT TO GET TOGETHER AND SOLVE THIS ISSUE. COOPERATE AND MAKE A LOT OF CUSTOMERS HAPPY.

  • Keyboard quotation errors

    Hello,
I'm receiving ( Apple Mail ) emails back that I've sent… and the (‘) key stroke is coming back as an (?)
A line may read as follows:  “I?ve no idea ?what? is happening…”
It looks fine when I send it, but it returns with ‘question marks’ instead of a ‘single quotation mark’
Any help would be most welcome.
    MiL

Hi, Melvin. If your keyboard is typing a lot of numerals instead of letters, press the Num Lock key (F6) to turn off Num Lock.
If that's not the problem, connect a USB keyboard to the Powerbook and see whether it misbehaves in the same way. If it does, there's a software glitch behind the problem. To confirm that, boot to a CD or DVD. If the problem disappears, software on your hard drive is definitely at fault. In that case, while booted to the CD, run the Repair Disk and Repair Permissions functions of Disk Utility to square things away on the internal HD. Failing that, an Archive and Install of OS X should put things right.
If a USB keyboard behaves properly when connected, your built-in keyboard or its connection to the main logic board has gone bad. To determine which it is, release the keyboard, flip it over onto your Tibook's wrist rests, and gently disconnect its ribbon cable from the logic board, then reconnect it. Put the keyboard back and test again. If the problem persists, replace the keyboard.
