Keynote and keyboard dock

Does anyone know if Keynote will ever be available in portrait mode? The reason I ask is because I want to use the Keyboard dock with Keynote and the dock only allows portrait mode. Seems like a logical combination of app and accessory and highly frustrating that the two currently don't work together.

My guess is that won't be a priority since a presentation's orientation is landscape. To create a WYSIWYG keynote in portrait orientation you'd either have to scroll back and forth (ugh) or work in much reduced size (also ugh). I was thankful I already had a blue tooth keyboard to play with for a while because I was tempted by the keyboard dock until I realized the potential drawback.

IPad Keyboard Dock and Keynote

The *iPad Keyboard Dock* arrived, but when I attempt to use it with iPad Keynote_, all of the slides remain sideways_, which means that for all practical purposes, the iPad Keyboard is useless.
Is anyone else having the same problem, or is it just me?

It is not a fault, it is by design in Keynote.
Keynote only operates in Landscape mode as slides are landscape shaped and displayed only in landscape. If you watch the Keynote demo here :-

It states at about 20 seconds in "because slides are horizontal it works in landscape mode"
I'm afraid you will have to do your Keynote docs when not using the dock.

How do I hook a Mac Mini to an existing PC Laptop Dock in order to use existing 23" monitor, mouse, and keyboard?

My parents currently have a Dell Inspiron desktop (which thanks to Windows has crashed and requred re-installation of the OS and then ordering an OEM hard drive and starting from scratch). Anyway, my dad has started bringing home a work laptop, and I got him a laptop docking station so he could take advantage of the 23" monitor, keyboard, and wireless mouse that he prefers.
My brother and I are going to buy my parents at Mac Mini for Christmas. It's probably simple (or with my luck, impossible) but I need to know what I need to know in order to also hook up the Mac Mini to the monitor/keyboard/mouse (we may buy a keyboard and mouse). Is it just a matter of cables/splitters?
I'd appreciate any assistance. I've been trying to get my parents switched over to Mac for almost 10 years now. Dad is stubborn and will definitely want to use the 23" monitor he bought so I have to find a way to make that work. The keyboard and mouse aren't a huge deal - instead of being on the drawer that rolls out from under the desk, the Mac stuff can be on top of the desk. I just need to know if it's possible to avoid that and do everything through the docking station (even if I have to get a USB hub). I'm pretty sure the monitor has a DVI input, and the current work laptop is using the analog input.

The Mac mini is not going to be able to use the Dell docking station itself, due to
the Mac mini is not a laptop
it does not have a docking connector
However you might be able to achieve what you want with a KVM (Keyboard, Video, and Mouse) switchbox which would sit between the dock and Mac mini and the Screen/Keyboard/Mouse.
For this to be as easy as possible, both computers need to be using the same types of connections, so that means USB for the keyboard and mouse, and ideally DVI for the monitor. I am using a dock with a Dell laptop and the dock does have a DVI connection as well as a VGA connection so yours might as well.
You would then need a KVM switchbox with USB and DVI connections. This one would be a suitable example http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-2-Port-Switch-Audio-TK-214i/dp/B004L62KN4/ref=sr_ 1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1322228493&sr=1-4 you don't have to use the audio connections.
In theory you could use a VGA adaptor on the Mac mini to make both use VGA but widespread reports suggest VGA on the latest Mac mini is very unrealiable.

Keynote and pages icons disappear from dock

Although I tried to fix the icons for Pages and Keynote to the dock by dragging the apps from the application folder to the dock, everytime I restart the computer, the two icons have disappeared. I did repair disk permissions, but it still happpens!
Anyone who's got a clue?

Welcome to Apple discussions.
The most probable reason is that you accidentally dragged the icon out of the dock. I have done this myself when I "opened" a program and dragged the pointer from the dock instead.

My IPad1 has completely shut down. It has no power. I have tried a restart and a reset with no results. I have tried charging through the keyboard dock, the wall charger and my Macbook Pro with no results. Is this a complete battery failure?

How long did you have the iPad connected to the wall charger? A completely dead iPad battery may not work until it has been charged for some time - maybe a half hour or more. I suggest leaving it on charge overnight, and then trying the reset.
The MacBook may be able to charge the iPad if it doesn't go to sleep, but it will be extremely slow. the Wall charger is definitely the best way.

FOR SALE - Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet, Docking Station and Keyboard Folio Case

As my daughter is insisting on a laptop, her Thinkpad Tablet and Accessories will have to go....
The tablet is the 16GB WiFi Version (1838-5SG). The Docking Station is the standard one (0A33965), as is the Keyboard Folio Case (which is a Western European keyboard type - ASM P/N 0B33512 FRU P/N 03X6354).
The Tablet has one very tiny scratch on the screen, hardly noticeable, other than that is in perfect condition (the Styuls Pen is only 4 months old). The Docking Station has a slot cut out to enable a mini HDMI Cable to be connected through the facia (to the tablet), and other than that, is in perfect condition. The Folio Keyboard Case is in perfect condition. All cables, etc are included, and the Docking Station power cable has an EU plug (note that if you live in a Country which doesn't have EU Plug sockets, a standard plug can be purchased separately from the adaptor, they normally cost pennies....)
All boxes, packaging, instructions, etc are included, including the receipts for warranty purposes. The tablet and docking station are less than 1 year old, as verified by the receipts.
I can send full info, including photos, etc, if needed.
If anyone is interested, please make me an offer.

I was thinking i could use this Motorola Wireless Keyboard, it only needs an HID bluetooth connection, the ThinkPad Tab supports HID?

External Mouse and Keyboard Stop Working When X220 is Docked and Screen is Closed

I have an X220 with a docking station, external monitor and external keyboard/mouse. When I start the laptop from a cold boot and it's docked, my external mouse and keyboard work fine with the screen open or closed.
If I undock and redock with the screen closed, the external keyboard doesn't work and the mouse cursor moves, but the mouse buttons don't do anything. If I open the screen, then the keyboard and mouse work fine.
I've swapped the keyboard and mouse and still have the same problem, so it's not the kb/mouse. This is a brand new X220 and the issue has been occurring since it was purchased.
Any thoughts?

hard to say what's going on, though i would recommend heading to http://support.lenovo.com , do a full update of your unit.
also, if the external keyboard & mouse & monitotor is connected to your unit without the docking station, does the same thing happen?

HT3159 Can not open Pages. Tried to empty trash, closed programs on dock, then reloaded I Work. All three programs show up in Finder that they have been downloaded; however, Keynote and Numbers programs will only open. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Eric. I'm not sure what I should be checking using your suggestion--as I said, I'm an utter novice with the iMac. However, I saw a reference to problems with the Library entries, so I checked mine and the iWork files were missing, something confirmed when I checked the crash log. In desperation, I did another software update, and that seems to have fixed the problem completely. Now wondering if I dare upgrade to Lion!

Connect your iPad to your computer. Launch iTunes. Make sure your iPad is recognized in iTunes under Devices on the left.
Select the Summary tab then click Update.
Just to make sure your iPad software is up to date.

You would need to pair the Apple Remote with the receiver. So I would use the generic Mac/PC receiver and follow these instructions:

If that doesn't work then check in System Profiler to see if the IR receiver has been recognized by the PowerBook's hardware. You may require the install of drivers for this device to be recognized.

Do i have to charge both the ipad and the keyboard dock?

I bought my 84 year old mother an iPad - which she is loving. I also got her the Apple keyboard dock to make it easier for her to use. Problem is - I had iPad in dock, dock plugged into wall. This morning the iPad is showing a battery strength of only 39%. Do I need to charge both of these separately ... or do I have a real problem? Thanks!

There is no battery in the Dock, it is pass through only. Make sure that you have everything plugged in securely. Also make sure that you are only using the iPad's charger, the iPad needs more current than provided by the charger for an iPhone or iPod.

Trackpad on the Lynx Keyboard Dock

Does anyone know if the trackpad on the Lynx keyboard dock can be disabled without disabling the keyboard's other functions? The trackpad is really hard to use, and I wonder if it is partly responsible for the erratic behavior of the keyboard while I am typing? I have a USB mouse that can handle the pointing function quite handily (besides the touchscreen, of course).

The touchpad on the dock uses a Windows driver and does not have any special Software to Disable it via shortcut,
How I found to go around on what you need is
With the tablet on the dock with no USB mouse yet
-Press (Windows key+x) and choose device manager on the list
-On Device Manager window
-Open mice and pointing device and right click on the item under under it and choose disable.
This should disable the dock touchpad and Now you can plug in your USB mouse,
If you want the touchpad back just do the same steps but "Enable" will be your option when you right click on the item under mice and pointing device.

Keynote and Spaces

I have a keynote presentation with a hyperlink to a web site, with keynote in one space and Safari in another space(Leopard). When the l select the link and it opens the web site in another space it works fine but when I return to the previous space keynote is no longer in view mode and I have to select it in the dock. Is there a way to return to a running active presentation so that I can continue without selecting the keynote in the dock?

I have the same problem, I need to run Safari between slides in my Keynote.
I figured out one way to do it:
Just have the two apps running and switch between them with Command-tab.
But this is not very convenient when standing on a stage, so I would like to find a smarter way, preferrably by using the remote control. Anyone has some tips?

Keynote and pages

I was deleting photos from my iphoto and I apparently deleted the Keynote and pages on my Mac OS X 10.6.8. I went to click on my widgets on the dock and a question mark shows up on both. I believe I accidently deleted keynote and pages out of my system. How can I recover them?

Reinstall them from the disk or trial download originally used to install them or the computer's original disks. If you got them from the Mac App Store, go to its main page, click on Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and see what they say.
