Kobo I give up

Not being able to read on my playbook, I searched and found the Good E reader .com, site, And down loaded there Android side loader App DDPB to my PC, Following there instructions. ? I now have The Kindle for android installed on my playbook  Just great and worked first time, there is also more Android apps just waiting for you
Good luck

Just got a (free) Kobo book using a web browser.
When I launched Kobo Desktop, it automatically downloaded it to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Kobo\Kobo Desktop Edition\kepub (under a silly name),
and I could read it on Kobo desktop.
When I renamed it to 'test.epub', I was able to read it on a regular reader; it did not appear to have any DRM associated.  Indeed, it wasn't a Kobo edition at all, but a Gutenberg one.  However, I've just experimented copying (nonDRM) .epub files into that same directory, and Kobo Desktop doesn't see them.
So, back to your original issues.  It looks as if your Kobo books should just automatically sync to your Dad's computer when he opens Kobo Desktop, and he should be able to read them on his Kobo Desktop.
He won't be able to read any books you aquire by other means on the Kobo desktop.

  • RE: Adobe Digital Editions recognizing KOBO

I have been using the ADE with my KOBO for over two years. Today, I can't manage my KOBO acct because ADE will not recognize the KOBO.I have tried changing USB cords, closing and reopening the program, restarting the computer without luck. I was able (as usual) to download my books but since the KOBO is not recognized on the home page cannot transfer them. The battery on the KOBO is fully charged. Any ideas on what I can do?

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way.  Both devices stand alone and connect
via the USB cord and the operating system software.  Let me go over the
process - no offense intended to your intelligence or experience.
The process of connecting should start with you plugging in the KOBO to
your computer.  The computer should recognize the KOBO and give it a drive
letter.  You can check on this with Windows Explorer (NOT Internet
Explorer), which will show you all of the devices attached to your computer.
Then, start ADE.  If all is well, ADE will show the KOBO in the bookshelf
pane of the Library view.  If it's not there, then you can try a couple of
things.  First, press the key combination of CTL, SHIFT and the letter D.
That should deauthorize the KOBO if it's there.  If ADE can't find it, it
will tell you it can't deauthorize the device.  The next time ADE tries to
see the KOBO, it should ask you to authorize the device.
There's one more thing to consider.  Did you upgrade any software - KOBO or
ADE?  That can upset the applecart.

  • Kobo and library books

Now that I've downloaded a book from the library, How do I get it
on to the Kobo?  It's really frustrating.

There's a couple of pieces of this picture I'm not getting, so let me give
you an answer that starts with the basics.
The Kobo ereader - actually any ereader - has to be recognized by ADE as an
authorized device.  If you follow a certain sequence, this takes place
automagically, because everything is aligned.  First, the Kobo ereader has
to be 'activated' by registering it with Kobo.  That means you have to set
up an account with the Kobo store/website, and then link the ereader to the
website.  When you do this, the Kobo store will embed your Kobo ID in the
Kobo ereader.  Then, turn on your computer and plug in your ereader to a USB
port.  Assuming that your computer is a Windows machine, the computer will
recognize the Kobo ereader as a new device - usually a hard drive.  Once
Windows reports that your new hardware is ready to use, you can start up
ADE.  ADE 'should' recognize that your Kobo ereader is attached, and
register it in the left hand panel of its Library view.  Once this is done,
you can drag and drop books from ADE onto your ereader.
    Hope this helps!

  • HT2105 I have an itunes gift card, then found out that I can not use it with my KOBO Ereader.  I was wondering if I could let someone else in my family use the balance of my gift card?  They have an IPad and they often use Itune Gift Cards to purchase mov

I was given an itunes gift card, then found out that my KOBO Ereader will not accept the itunes gift card.  I now have this gift card with a balance on it and would like to give it to my brother (he has an IPAD and uses Itune gift cards all the time).  If he was to use my gift card (with my password) would the movie or book that he purchase show up on his devise or would it show up on mine.  Thanks for all the help

I'm not sure what you mean. Did you redeem the gift card to your iTunes Store account? If not, just give your brother the gift card and he can redeem it in his own iTunes Store account. If you did redeem the card, then there's no way to transfer the balance from your iTunes Store account to his. He'd have to use your iTunes Store account to make the purchases and sync to his devices.

  • Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 crashes each time I try to move a library ebook to my kobo ereader

I am using Mac OS X 10.9.5. I installed ADE 4.0 and was able to use the ascm file from my local library to download a library book to ADE 4.0 bookshelf. ADE recognizes my Kobo eReader, but when I drag the book to the eReader, ADE first tells me it is copying the file to the eReader, then it promptly crashes and gives a long error (pasted below). I tried this on my laptop too, which uses Mac OS X 10.7.5, also with ADE 4.0. Exact same thing happens.
I have no idea what's going on. Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried plugging the eReader in at different times (when ADE is launched, and before it launches), with no change in the error.
    Any help will be appreciated!

  • Can't get ADE to recognise my kobo - help!!

I bought a kobo aura today. Bought a book from the kobo stall which is reading fine.
The main reason I got an ereader was for ebooks from the public library. So I then I tried to get a public library book on to the kobo. Successfully transferred a couple of public library books to the kobo via ADE but when I tried to read the books on the kobo, I got a message saying the document wasn't authorised. Following advice on the web, I deleted ADE from the kobo folder on my pc in order to force ADE to start from scratch and reinstall on the kobo (and the ADE files in the kobo folder had been saying there was an error). ADE now won't recognise the kobo at all. Installed ADE on another computer but had the same problem, it won't recognise the kobo. I've tried so many things to try and sort the problem that I'm completely befuddled. Oh, and along the way I did a factory reset on the kobo.
    Any ideas/advice?

Thank you. I've not solved the problem but I reported it to my public library who do have been in touch with Overdrive, the 3rd party provider for the library's ebook service. The library digital media officer says that Overdrive's CEO uses a Kobo. Overdrive's 1st suggestion is to install ADE version 3. I did this but then got a message "Error! Check Activation" when I downloaded a library book and couldn't even get it into ADE. After scratching a bigger hole in my head and getting into more of a muddle, I realised I had ADEv4  installed on my other computer (authorised to my ADE account) and that this might be the source of the activation problem. I now only have ADEv3 installed but haven't been able to test Overdrive's solution as I'm now locked out from downloading library ebooks because of the number of transactions in such short period of time and I need to wait 7 days for my account to be cleared! The library service has asked Overdrive to unlock my account but this hasn't taken effect yet.
I also spoke with a friend who works in a university computer dept who thinks they know someone who had the same problem and may have solved it so I'm waiting to hear about that.
The other solution that some people seem to be talking about is to strip off the DRM - I presume this creates a pirate version and I object to being forced into considering doing something illegal, however much of a racket the digital rights stuff is.
However I am comforted that I am not the only person struggling with this issue; and bless the library staff who do give a damn about trying to resolve the problem. Will keep you posted!

Everything works on my playbook except a book from Kobo I ordered and can't seem to open. I haven't had any problems in the past. I have downloaded books without a problem. This particular book started okay, but now it just won't open. Any suggestions?

  • Book transfered to Kobo not showing up in library

I use Kobo reader and recently purchased a EPUB book from another source and installed ADE following installation instructions. When I open up ADE on my computer, it recognizes my Kobo reader as a bookshelf. I used drag and drop to add the book to Kobo, but it doesn't appear on my reader. I've downloaded EPUB from other (non-protected) sources before and it worked fine. If I open my Kobo application on the computer, I do see the book there.
Anyone have a clue how to fix this? I've lost patience with help files on all applications.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
In order to fix this you may follow the steps as given below.
Solution ) Delete following folder from your computer.
    C:\Documents and Settings\sali\My Documents\My Digital Editions\Restore
HD:\Users\UserName\Digital Editions\Restore (If your are using MAC)
Now download the same book once again and while downloading the book it will give you three options "Open" , "Save" , "Cancel"
Click on save and it should save on following location.: C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\Downloads
Now go to the location where you have downloaded book
Right click on the book and select Open with.
    Now select Adobe Digital Editions
Now the book should open in Digital Editions.
I hope this will help you!!!

  • Unable to read my local library book in my Kobo Aura H2O

I have downloaded adobe digital editions 4.0 and have authorized my device and my computer with my adobe id.  When I download a book from my local library into adobe digital editions (ADE), I can read the book within ADE, but when I grab the book title and move it over to my Ereader icon (Kobo Aura H2O) it looks like it has been downloaded into the Ereader, but when the reader is disconnected and checked, the downloaded book does not open, and it gives the following  quote, "oops! This document couldn't be opened...This document is protected by Adobe Digital Rights Management(DRM) and is not currently authorised for use with your Adobe ID.  Please sign-in with the authorized Adobe ID and try again". Both the computer and the reader have been authorized with my Adobe ID.
    Can anyone help?
I have looked at various forums and this appears to be a common problem, but I have not seen a solution yet.
    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions.  I did try version 3 before and that still did not work, but I will try it again.
I did  take the Kobo down to my local library, and the helpful girl tried to get it working through Overdrive, but we hit a problem using the public computer, and as they were almost closing I just gave up for that day.  I said that if I went to see her again I would take my laptop, which she thought would be a good idea, although one problem seems to be that my laptop is Windows 7, and looking on the Overdrive website, it would appear that I need at least Windows 8 for the Overdrive to transfer Epub books, which creates another problem as Windows 7 and 8 are about to be superseded by Windows 10 in early 2015.
Anyway thanks for the suggestions, and I will repost if I find an answer, also, I cannot believe how many people are having this problem.

  • Can anyone explain the advantage of iPod vs iPad over Kobo Vox for reading iBooks?

Can anyone explain the advantage of iPod vs iPad over Kobo Vox for reading iBooks?

Thank you Alan and  know you are right. I really can do all I need with my netbook and ereader and do not need the ipad. I think I just wanted something new and felt I may enjoy using it a lttle more than the netook. But it would be a waste just to buy one when I donlt acutally need it  And, donl't think it is worth the extra money for me the get the 4g wireless capability since I doubt I would really need it often.
I may treat myself to the Ipad for the color, touchpad and fun to use but it is very expensive considering how little it will do for me no more than the things I want it for. It woudl be and expensive luxuray, I can do without. I actually  need t learn how to use more of the function avaiable first.  Maybe I should take up playing games and learning to take digital pictures so I can at least load them. If I could learn to do that and take a decent picture, I could start selling back all the "stuff" I have purchased on ebay. haha - I do have a nice doll collection, I would like to sell. I just do not have room for anything else. That was the primary purpose for the Kindle Ereader I bought and enjoy so much,
But, I will hold onto the thought for a while and see how it goes and what other comments I get, If I think I cannot live without it, then I will have to rethink which one to buy, I coud get the 32 g if I did not have to pay for the 4g wireless. And, if I knew I could get help to teach me how to use and enjoy all the functions, I would give it more serious consideration. My granddaugther got one for Christmas and that was what got me interested in it. I love the size of the screen and it had good color and was fast. She even had an application where she could write her notes and it would convert into typed words. That was a neat feature, If you could print it?
But thanks again for your comments and I will check later to see I get any other feedback.
    Sunny:)

  • Try to install a adobe digital edition for my kobo touch. i have no administrative password -using library computer. what can i do?

    from Marcia.
I have a kobo touch ereader.  Try to install adobe digital editions.  i only access to a library computer window 7.  Try to download ADE 3. 0. Installater.exe.   No administrative password.
Can you help me.  My kobo touch software is 1.9.17. (r37581 3/16/12)  model no. N905B27210158.

Since the new library gives you the same message log into another user account on your Mac and see if you can run iPhoto without getting that message.  If you get that message there also a reinstall of iPhoto seems indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all available updates to it.

  • Can't sync BBPB Kobo w pc

I have a BlackBerryPlaybook. Basically, I just turned it on and started using it - no backing up, no syncing. My internet wifi only gives my 2 Gigs /mth, so I don't want to backup to the PC. I accessed the Kobo books program that comes w/BBPB and bought a book, no problem! however, kobo has sent me a welcome email with a discount of 20% and I cant use it. When I try to use it at checkout on the playbook,  it says I have no purchases and no kobo promo. Contacted kobo and they said it must be done from my PC. Tried and got exactly same results, so do I need to sync Playbook kobo with PC and how do I do that? Thx for any help

You literally should just be able to use the promo code on the Kobo website on a PC (or indeed in the PlayBook Browser).
If it isn't working, try a different web browser. Having gone through the process myself a long time ago - it isn't always obvious that it's applied the discount.
This has nothing to do with the PlayBook app, so don't worry about that.
Once you've purchased the book, it should appear in your library.

  • Question for Blackberry - Does Kobo Deal Preclude a Kindle App?

Simple yes or no.  Amazon doesn't give anything beyond general non-answers.  There was a big announcement months ago that there would be a Kindle app.  That turned out not to be true.
There is, instead, a terrible app from Kobo.  Blackberry needs to answer the question: Does the existance of the Kobo app preclude a Kindle app in the next few weeks?  If so, my PB is going back to the store.
Also, where is the Skype app we were promised?
