I am posting this on LP8 and LP7 forums.
Anyone else having issues with Kontakt 3 within Logic? I got Kontakt 3 about a month ago. It seems to run fine with the following exceptions.
1. There are no Multi or Bank presets available (no .nkm files on system anywhere) after installation.
2. The Database will not "rebuild".
3. The Quickload function remains empty.
I am able to build my own multi instruments, though and save them. Kontakt routes nicely within LP7. All samples and instruments are accessible it would seem. Also all other functions and features within Kontakt seems to run as they should.
Native Instruments has been working with me to try to solve this issue. It's been checked and re installed twice. Same deal. As Kontakt 3 is very new, Native (and I) are wondering if this is an issue with Logic or an issue with the new Kontakt install.
Any thoughts / feedback is much appreciated.

I think Randall is a better one to give you comparisons as I am competely new to Kontakt - so I can't compare Kontakt 2 to Kontakt 3.
I have found that Kontakt 3 bogs down Logic, but I guess that is to be expected. I've used Kontakt only as a multi instrument, and have never loaded more than 7 instruments so far.
In one session I have a multi Kontakt instance with 7 Kontakt instruments, along with an instance of Synthogy Ivory, and an instance of multi BFD - and also an instance of Ozone 3 on my master out. Again ... Logic was cusmbersome, but it did run - and it ran even without purging the unneeded samples. Also, I am unable to use my number pad for transport controll properly while the Kontakt window is open. Once I close the window though the transport behaves normally so that's not a big deal.
The purge function appears to work properly - removing uneeded samples and freeing up ram and cpu.
The other differences that I am aware of are basically in the above thread: No pre loaded multi's or banks. Also ... I have the Kontakt 2 training video ... and I can see that Kontakt 2 has some instruements that are not available on Kontakt 3, but if you already have Kontakt 2 than you will still have those instruments after your upgrade.
Finally there appear to be some unusable and noisy instruments - apparantly due to some trouble with some of the filters within Kontakt 3, but NI are aware of these issues and they will likely be fixed before too long.
Overall I am happy with Kontakt 3, but again have no way of comparing it to previous versions.

How do i change the play style (e.g on a violin from arco to pizz) in Kontakt while still using the same instrument track, mid way though the song

So if the title is not clear, im really stuck. i got Kontakt 2 and the EWQL sound sets the other day from my uncle and I've been trying them out in logic. My problem is, that in my full orchestral piece, I have a violin 1 which plays pizz at the start. Mid way trhough the song i want it playing arco or legato. I cant do it without physically creating another track to play it on. Is it even possible to change it half way?

Most keyswitched instruments have that already built into the Kontakt patch. It's probably possible to add that functionality either by editing in Kontakt or doing fancy setup in Logic's environment window, but either of those would be pretty complicated.
If a patch already has those, it should show up in the keyboard view in kontakt (colored keys away from the rest of the instrument range, sometimes a different color).

how do you use multiple outputs on a VSTi like Kontakt or Battery with Logic Pro 7.1? I've heard someting about using AUX busses, but can anyone please provide an actual clear, step by step basic guide?
I've had Logic 3 months now and just don't know how to do this yet, and have yet to actually find it in the manual!!

How do I set up Kontakt with Mainstage 2?

I'm new to mainstage. I love my kontakt plug ins and wanna use them in conjuction with Mainstage sounds and have the ability to add compression eq and all that stuff to it. How do I set up Kontakt to work in Mainstage?

That depends on how you want to connect, and what iPad you have.
Do you have a WiFi only iPad?
If you are in the US, do you have a AT&T GSM iPad, or a Verizon CDMA iPad?

Problem with pages and kontakte

On my macbook (OSX 10.6.8) with "Pages '08 (3.0.3)" and "Adressbuch (5.0.3)", personalizing documents with contacts data works very well (e.g. "Mit Adressbuch-Daten zusammenführen..."). However, on my iMac (10.8.5) there is no "Adressbuch" but "Kontakte (7.1)" and personalizing does not work ("Keine Einträge im Adessbuch"). It looks like Pages tries to find "Adressbuch" and ignores "Kontakte".

How to send multiple midi channels to a single Kontakt Player?

I can send any channel to a Kontakt Player. But only 1 channel at a time. When I have 2 tracks dedicated a single Kontakt Player how do I assign them to different channels so that the Kontakt player responds multi-timbrally?
I can't believe that I cannot figure this out. It's a little embarrasing.

create multiple tracks that use same instrument. After you create your 1st software instrument track you can create more tracks that use that same instrument, from the track menu. Select, "New with same channel strip/instrument. you can create as many as you like.
But since they are using the same channel strip, you will have to mute and un-mute differently because muting one mutes all, so instead of muting the track itself, mute the region on a track using the mute tool.

Outlook 2010 unter Exchange 2010: Kontakte nach Excel exportieren

Hi all,
a user wants to export contacts from a shared folder to Excel. He gets following error message:
"An ODBC error has occurred in the Microsoft Excel 97-2003 translator while opening a file to build a field map.
[Microsoft] [ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified."
No problem to Export to a *.pst file or to a *.csv file. Also no Problem to export his own contacts to Excel.
I found the problem often described in the World Wide Web, but no solution. Does anybody know, how to solve the Problem? Or have users to live with the workaround (*.csv)?

ich wurde mit folgendem Problem konfrontiert: Anwender will Kontakte aus dem freigegebenen Ordner seines Chefs nach Excel exportieren, erhält aber eine Fehlermeldung:

Export in *.pst- oder *.csv-Datei funktioniert. Export der eigenen Kontakte in Excel-Datei ist ebenfalls kein Problem.
Der Fehler wird im Internet häufig beschrieben, jedoch habe ich keine Lösung gefunden. Vielleicht ist euch eine Lösung bekannt? Oder gibt es keine und man sollte sich mit dem Export nach *.csv abfinden?

Please try to hold on CTRL and right click Outlook.exe to launch it with Administrator to test the behavior.
Test if we can go into excel and import an access database.
Test if we can export the calendar from outlook to a .csv file.
Try to disable add-ins from within Outlook, File > Options > Add-ins > Go
Try to reboot the machine through msconfig (without any non-Microsoft programs/Servise running).
Based on my experience, this programs might be caused by ODBC related, check if we have the enough permissions of the ODBC drivers and go to the ODBC Data Source Administrator window (Start | Control Panel| Administrative Tools | Data Sources (ODBC)), check
if there is Excel File entries under the DSN, if no, add it manually.
At last, we may also run ProcMon and find the clue from procmon logs. Feel free to post it back. Have a good time.

Logic Not Reading Kontakt 3 correctly

I think this is a leopard problem because all works well in... GUI is white like this http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/633/picture1ixy.png I know it's not a NI problem. It works fine on the studio tower but not on this imac... I installed Prokit 5.0. still nothing... even though it affects Kontakt it seems to be something in my 10.5.8 please help. thanks!

Open the Midi event editor and check the recorded controller events. Probably the EV-5 is transmitting wrong data to the physical Input of Logic.

Q about using Kontakt player

I'm a new user to the Kontakt player, which came with Garritan's Personal Orchestra, and I have a question about how the Kontakt player is generally used in Logic.
It seems the optimal way of using it is to assign the Kontakt Player to an Audio Instrument, and then have multiple tracks assigned to that Audio Instrument, each sending on different MIDI channels. Is that right?
The minor thing I don't like about this is that I can't use different track icons in the Arrange window, since track icons seem to be attached to the Audio Instrument. I rather like seeing my orchestra laid out with pictures.
So.. is this the right way of using it, or would there be too much overhead in bringing in a separate instance of the Kontakt Player for each track?

Just to clarify things... Velocity is not the same as Volume.
Volume is controlled via midi controller #7, Velocity is another type of midi control message, and is input with each note you play, (the value zero for velocity is like having volume at zero, but they are two different types of messages, velocity increases as you play harder, the max value for velocity is 127.
When using multi-instruments in logic, (i.e. Kontakt) due to Logic's midi implentation, it uses controller #7 for the entire audio instrument, hence all your multi midi parts move together when you move contoller #7 (Volume controller). One way around this is to use the expression controller, which is controller #11, instead of controller #7 to independently control the volume of each midi part.

Macbook Pro 15" + DROBO FW800 + KONTAKT PLAYER?

I'm use my Macbook mostly for preproduction and programming.
I want to purchase Kontakt Komplete and East/West Quantum Symphony Platinum. Each of these requires about 100GB of space to host the instruments on your hard drive, which is what I want (I figure i won't utilise the packages completely if I don't have instant access to all of their features.
This also means that I should start preparing for a work-around solution for future purchases as well, given that I'm probably going to want more instruments and my first purchase of a Mac Pro will only occur in about two years, realistically.
What I was thinking was this:
DROBO 4 Hard Drive with 3 x 1 TB Hard Drives - These would be Western Digital Caviar Black Firewire 800 Drives (7200RPM):
1 Hard Drive I use for my Instrument Libraries
1 Hard Drive I use for storage
1 Hard Drive for back up (duplicate of storage)
My current workflow is that I use a small 120GB partition for production (the other 250GB is for the System) - this partition is ONLY for Logic, so that searching is easier for the processor. As soon as that partition gets a bit full, I copy the entire drive to a hard drive, duplicate that and then format - ready to start from fresh. I also run Time Machine.
So my question is this:
Would that drive mentioned above be able to handle the libraries in real time? i.e. could I have all of my instruments stored on an external hard drive and work seamlessly?

Even if you had the space on your internal drive, it could never cope with EWSO platinum if you started opening up more than a few instruments, so external is the way to go.
I am unfamiliar with the drive setup you are talking about, but I take it that all of the drives would be sharing a single FW800 port... all your VI samples, audio tracks etc.
Hmm. FW800 is good, but have you investigated eSATA? On my MBP there is a slot which can accommodate an eSATA card, which would give you throughput nearly matching an internal SATA drive, somewhere in the order of 3mbs. Now we're talking. Even on my MacPro, hard drive speed became an issue with a lot of orchestral VI's open, so I'd be looking into it a bit more, and asking a few more questions. Ideally from someone who knows more than me.

Issues with Kontakt 5

I know the issue is more Kontakt 5 related, but there's no better place than apple forums to get the answers..
So basically, everytime i restart my mac and load a new project in logic, I have to manually load all the instruments that I use for Kontakt 5 (Drums, Bass, Piano).
I was wondering if there's something that I could do to avoid loading them manually..??
Also, I've ordered 4GB apple ram's for my mac because 2GB ram was giving me overloading issues. My mac has around 100GB HD space free and runs on 2.26 core 2 duo. Will the ram upgrade solve my issue ..??

Your RAM upgrade will help, especially since you're using Kontakt, which can use a fair amount of RAM. And if you have too little RAM, the OS will dump RAM content to disk, but it will also have to read RAM content from disk sometimes or even all the time, and all this loading and unloading activity can max out the CPU; OTOH , your overloads could also simply be purely CPU-related, in which case the extra RAM will do little or even nothing to alleviate the problem. So: it depends. But it is a good idea nevertheless.
You have 100 GB free? On a 500 GB disk? Keep it at that, it's the recommended minimum "20 % free space" margin.

Kontakt 4.1.1 and Logic 9.1.1 needs Max buffer

I posted this on the NI forum too.I have 1 instance of Kontakt 4.1.1 in Logic 9.1.1 64bit with only 4 sounds loaded and have to set the buffer to Max 1024 otherwise all I get is clicks and pops on playback.The strange part is,when I first loaded this kontakt patch, it ran great with a buffer of 128.I left my computer for a couple hours and when I returned and hit play, everything was glitching out.When I bypass Kontakt, the song plays fine at a low buffer setting.when I run Kontakt, I get one of the CPU meters in Logic hitting red.Kontakt shows very low RAM and voice usage and I have 8 GB of RAM in a Mac Pro 2.66 Duo core.I have tried Logic in 32 bit mode,enabled Kontakt memory server,reloaded a blank Kontakt then loaded the patch.switched between Digi 192 (core audio) and Motu 828 MKII,rebooted,repaired permissions.The only way to get smooth playback is to set Logic's audio buffer to 1024 which makes it virtually impossible to play a part in real time.I know this isn't right as it was working fine at first.Any thoughts?

I have a similar set-up (noted below, with Mac OS X 10.6.4). I'm still experimenting with different configurations. Currently, I have Kontakt's memory server (don't remember its official name) engaged when in 64-bit mode (both Kontakt 4 and Logic Pro). On one project, I have a total of about 32 instruments in use including ones from Kontakt and EXS. All is well.
Now, it's my understanding that when in 64-bit mode, one doesn't need to use Kontakt's memory server. Have you tried either engaging or disengaging the server?
Also. . . I'm using MOTU's 2408 MK3. As far as I know, its drivers are updated to the latest ones. This also may be helping me out. Are the drivers to your audio drivers the "latest and the greatest"??
Finally, is your OS updated to 10.6.4? Your Info currently indicates that your using OS 10.6.3. (Don't know if this makes any difference.)
It's interesting how people can have similar set-ups with differing results.

LE7 / Kontakt 2

I've recently bought Kontakt 2 & Kontakt Experience to use with LE7, but cpu drain is crippling my PB.
Am thinking of buying desktop, not sure whether to go for new iMac G5 2ghz or sell a limb & buy Powermac G5 dual 2.3ghz.
Is anyone out there running LE7 & Kontakt 2 on an iMac G5? If so, how is it performing?

In the meantime I downloaded the free Kontakt player. Still - I have no ideas how to get Kontakt 2 working again on Snow Leopard, any suggestion will be appreciated!

Why I can't see Kontakt 3.5 in Logic X?

Why I can't see NI Kontakt 3.5 in Logic X? It is indeed a 64 bit application. I can load only Kontakt (Reader) 5.

K3.5 isn't available as a 64bit AU Plugin...
Only K4 and now K5 are available as 64bit versions of the AU Plugin... which is what is required by LPX
I think you are getting confused between 64bit addressing of memory, which K3.5 has,,. and 64bit AU Plugins.. which K3.5 isn't.

How to save kontakt sample files in Logic Pro X project?

I'm using Kontakt (Komplete, Native Instruments) as my samples for my midi in Logic Pro X, and my sample libraries are stored in an external hard drive which I bring around.
I need to send my Logic file over to another computer which will not have my hard drive that contains my sample libraries.
Is there a way to save my Kontakt Sample midi files together with Logic's folder, so when I open Logic without my ext Hard Drive, the midi can still be read?
I tried clicking Save As --> Organize my project as a "Folder", and ticked EVERYTHING --- Audio Files, EXS instruments and samples, Ultrabeat samples, Space Designer impulse responses, Movie file, Include Apple Sound Library Content.
But when I unplugged my external hard drive (which my sample files are stored), and clicked open that logic file which i saved, windows pop up saying it cannot locate my samples.
Is this a bug in Logic Pro X, or am I doing something wrong?
Or is it totally not possible to copy sample files over?

Logic will not copy over any 3rd party samples etc. If you really need to, you would need to copy the appropriate libraries manually, though with Kontakt, some libraries would need to be re-authorised.

Samples not working in EXS24 and Kontakt after volume change.

So I recently swapped my optical drive for an SSD and have elected the SSD as my new boot disk (my internal hard drive was the boot disk before). When I installed the SSD, I installed Lion onto it and then used a time machine backup to restore it to a replica of my old internal drive.
Now when I open a recent project, I see only a few instances of Kontakt without instruments loaded (factory 808 kit works still) and all instances of exs24 (about 3 or 4) are showing that my samples are loaded in the edit window. Exs24 shows the samples emitting audio in the track list, but not in the inspector windows. Playing by midi doesn't work either, the only things that DO work are audio tracks and instances of synths.
About my volumes:
- I load my samples (including audio samples and libraries) from an external drive via usb.
- My projects are also kept on the external drive.
- The only task allocated to my SSD (or initially my hard drive) is to run logic and run my plugins
- Old internal hard drive has been formatted and I'm not really using it at all
What seems to be the icing on the cake is that my most recent project works perfectly fine and is running many instances of kontakt and exs24.
Can someone please save me from this technological ****?
