KT4 Ultra - SCSI boot problem

Hi,
I have installed a Tekram DC390U2W LVD SCSI adapter on my KT4 Ultra. My problem is that I cannot select any of the five connected SCSI disks as a boot device in the BIOS (BBS-n), nor can I select 'Legacy SCSI' as a boot device, they simply don't exist as options in the Boot Sequence menu. I've used this card (and were able to boot) without problem using a MSI KT266 motherboard, so I don't think the problem is the SCSI adapter. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've disabled all motherboard options (Serial ATA Raid/1394/USB 2.0/GBLAN/Audio controllers), remove all PCI cards exept the Tekram card and tried it in all PCI slots without success. Also tried to assign different IRQs to the SCSI card in the BIOS. Tekram support responded that the SCSI card is fully PnP/BBS/PCI 2.1 specification compliant and they're unaware of any KT400 issues. There are issues (and work arounds) with this SCSI card when using it on motherboards with an on-board SCSI controller and older Award BIOS versions, but that's not applicable here.
Anyone out there using this SCSI card and motherboard got this combination to work as intended?

  • KT4 Ultra USB boot problems

My old floppy crapped out on me a while back so I thought I could use my USB hard drive or my keychain flash drive to boot the system (for BIOS flashes and such)  When I go into the BIOS, I can see my USB HD and Flash drive, but no matter what order I put the boot sequence in, it never boots to either drive.  I've even tried a USB floppy drive and that didn't work either.  If the BIOS sees the USB drive and the drive is bootable, should the system boot to them?

  • KT4 Ultra-BSR - Drive problems?

    Yesterday I purchased a KT4 Ultra-BSR. I am doing a clean install.
    I have an Athlon XP200+, 2 x 512MB DDR Ram (PC2100).
    On IDE1 I have put 2 x 20GB Western Digital HDs.
On IDE2 I have put a Pioneer DVR-A04 as Master, and a  100GB Western Digital HD as the Slave.
On IDE3 I want a 30GB Western Digital HD as Master, and a 40x Liteon CD-R/W as Slave.
I have installed Windows XP Pro (SP1) from new, and I have installed all of the drivers and utilities from the Drivers CD. My motherboard was shipped with BIOS Version 1.1
When I boot into Windows, I do NOT see the CD-R/W at all.
Also, the only way ro see the HD that's on IDE3 is when it's configured as an array (even though there's only one HD).
I would have preferred to have two HD's on IDE3 but NOT with any form of RAID configuration - is there a way of doing this?
    Many thanks

I did it the simple way: Used Fujitsu-Siemens' Plugfree setup instead of the incredibly buggy MSI drivers. Then it worked perfectly with my PocketLoox and Ericsson T39. The hardware is the same. But still the range stinks (max 20 feet on my system), so I bought a full WLan setup instead.

You've misunderstood my problem.  I have the MSI KT4 Ultra-BSR motherboard which has a bluetooth module which needs to be connected to the motherboard, however, I don't know how to connect it (PHYSICALLY).
Therefore I need someone with the same board to tell me how they did it.

  • KT4-Ultra-BSR Video problem

My PC was running fine. I have the KT4 Ultra BSR with XP2200+. I WAS running a TNT2/Riva 32MB GFX Card, and all was OK. I then bought a new graphics card - a 64MB Triplex Xabre-Pro (AGP 8X). I installed the card, but with it installed, the PC would not even attempt boot.
I took the card out and put my old TNT back in, and the PC worked OK.
I tried the jumper settings on the Triplex card, but it still failed to boot.
NOW the PC won't boot - even with the TNT card in, BUT it will boot WITHOUT a gfx card (although it gives the customary beeps).
What am I doing wrong here?

OK, well it IS a 3.3V and 5V PSU.
I have tried booting withou the NIC installed, and it made no odds.
    I have cleared the CMOS
I didn't remove the TNT drivers, but I don't feel like that's the problem since the machine does not power up.
I have tried a combined 300W 3.3V / 5V PSU that was in the machine before the gold PSU and it doesn't power on with that one in either.
On BOTH PSU's the machine WILL boot without either of my 2 graphics cards in it, but will not boot with either of them (whereas it did at least boot with the TNT before)

  • KT4 ULTRA FISR SATA Problem

I really need some help here. I have a KT4 Ultra board with SATA Interface and a brand new Seagate Barracuda 120 GB. On to the problem .. when i booted up the computer for the first time, it detected my disc. After that .. i was testing som different settings in the BIOS .. and had to clear the CMOS Now .. it won´t detect the drive at all. It says something about "No drive attached to the FastTrak controller. Bios not installed/loaded" I have installed all drivers and stuff that came with the board but no luck. Is the driver loaded into the BIOS from the beginning or? How do i get the d*amn board to detect it again? I can´t even enter the bios setup (for the SATA controller.. ctrl+f) So .. i can´t really do .
    Help!

It says jumper (Factory only) so i don´t think u are supposed to jumper it. It´s master by default. At least that´s what seagate claims =) Or?

  • KT4 Ultra crashing/rebooting problems

Hi all, I've been having computer crashing/rebooting problems when I play 3d games since I got this board. It can happen between 1-40 minutes during a game session and when the computer crashes, the screen would garble up and reboot along with the garbled screen until I cold boot it. I thought it was a heat problem at first but the cpu heat displays at between 34C-39C. Also, when I tried switching out the video card with an older one, the computer works fine during gameplay, and my newer video card ran fine on a friend's computer. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

  • Another KT4 Ultra + 9700 Pro problem

Having invested nearly 300 quid on a Radeon 9700 PRo  (Powercolor Evil commando 2) I decided to buy a new mobo with 8X AGP.  I opted for the MSI KT4 Ultra, cos I already had a MS-6340 V5.0 it seemed a good/reliable choice. I went ahead and bought a KT4 Ultra. This arrived a couple of weeks ago.
I was awaiting a new CPU/fan (2200+) and new PSU so, I hadnt been able to build my new system up. In the meantime I had been keenly watching the forums re: KT4 /9700 problems.
When i came to put my system together, this is what i found:
    1.  System wouldnt boot up at all.
    -   So I took out the 9700 and put in a GF2, and the machine booted ok.
Installed latest via drivers, C-Media drivers using live update.
    Upgraded Bios to 1.1
    2. Im using a trial version of XP, which had 13 days (IRONIC) before activation was required. When I rebooted after BIOS upgrade, Windows insisted on instant activation of the product key and wouldnt load Arrrrghhhh!
After a re-install of XP I still was left with the same problem. The 9700 wouldnt work at all.
    I checked the bios settings, and changed the FSB from 100 to 166 ( i have 512Mb DDR333 ) - no change.
AGP settings on auto,  128Mb Apperture
I had seen other with problems getting the 8X AGP to work with this mobo, but i cant get anything to work with it!!!
What else can I do?  Is there someting fundamental I have missed?
I am thinking of sending the KT4 Ultra back to the shop and getting a mobo which works with the 9700! Any Ideas ?
BTW the Gcard still works ok on a MAINBOARD K7S5A

    Thanx  maesus
    1.   v1.1
    2.  400w psu  vtec  - Not sure how well known they are!
I bought it from a computer fair from a guy selling ANTECH psu's . He had no Antech left, and suggested that these were good units. Having got it home and run it i believe him. In SANDRA  all voltage levels looked stable and v close to nominal.
    3. MS-6590 arrived on 18th Oct 2002 , so its almost ten days old.
Both items were bought on the net.
RMAing the boards maybe my only option now if i want to stick with th eboards ive got, but do u think i would be better to swap for a different KT4 board? since i believe other models of the KT4 dont have the 9700 problem, or is this not the case?
    thanks again

  • KT4 Ultra Cold Boot Hang.

This has happened several times when I boot my PC from cold start the Bios seems to boot fine then the XP screen comes up, the blue bars scroll and then the screen will go black and the mouse pointer should appear but sometimes the mouse pointer does not appear and I have a blank screen.  If I hit restart the computer boots fine and checkdisk will run and find no problems.  This happens sporadically but only from a cold boot.  It has never happened from a restart.   I have the latest Bios 1.3, Via 4.46 drivers, SP1, Nvidia's 40.72 along with the latest updates for my other hardware.  It has happened with prior bios's and earlier drivers.  I am not overclocking.  Most of the bios settings are default.  Memory settings are at 333 controlled by SPD.

The D-Led bracket had all 4 leds green when the XP logo screen goes blank and the mouse pointer should appear. I have installed XP a few times and swapped most of the hardware with same problem.
I also have a KT3 Ultra 2 before the KT4 Ultra and never had those cold boot problems and I was using alot of the same haredware.

  • KT4-Ultra-Onboard sound problems

I bought my KT4 Ultra in September and I've heard some talk about being defective. Just to start off by saying that for it may be my problem.... Anyways, I'm having problems with my onboard sound. When I play music, my sound kinda stutters. To best describe it, my sound doesnt skip or anything, but every now and then i hear an extra "drum beat" in my music where there shouldn't be. Please post if you know anyhing about it. Thanks.

    Thanks Vatoloco
I know my problem doesnt have anything to do with ripping or the software. All I knowis that the problem is with either my motherboard or something involved indirectly...
Anyways, to help you out, thry using different software and see if that's the problem. If not, try unplugging all your IDE cables and audio cable in ur case and reconnecting for you might have a bad connection. Lastly, check out your cd drive.

  • KT4 Ultra Promise Raid Problem

    Hi,
I recently purchased a KT4 Ultra board to replace a K7T 266 board. After connecting my RAID 0 array to the 40pin IDE RAID controller on the new board, I was surprised to discover that only one hard drive was recognized. I tried every jumper combination, even iterating through ones I knew would be invalid. I switched cables, and I even tried a different hard drive. Since the two Serial ATA connectors naturally only support one drive, I would hope that some errata in the BIOS would not cause the old 40pin connector to only allow one drive. Who knows.. that was my only guess, as I've tried everything I can think of. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

ide 3 acts like a sata channel and will read one drive only
as it says on boards page you need at least one sata drive for raid
you cheapest option is 2x sata convertors
abit make them and sig do as well
i say 2 as i would not have one sata one ide in raid myself

  • SCSI Booting Problems

    I have a B&W Mac with an G4 400MHz upgrade in it.
I just got an Adaptec 2940UW SCSI card and a 9.1GB drive to replace the original Apple IDE drive. The install of 9.2 went fine, but I cannot boot from the SCSI drive. I can still boot from the CD and I'm pretty sure I could replace the IDE drive and it would boot from that too.
I have found one way to get the computer to start up. I put in the CD and wait until the flashing question mark turns into a happy mac and then press the eject button on the cd drive. The CD comes out, the computer returns to a flashing question mark for a bit but then goes to the SCSI drive, boots and works fine.
The following diagnostic steps have been tried:
Letting the computer sit for a 1/2 an hour with a flashing question mark (nothing changed)
Installing 9.2 onto another SCSI drive that I know has correct jumper settings to boot from (so I'm pretty sure it's something with the card)
Re-flashing the card with 4.1 firmware from Adaptec
    Zapping PRAM
    Any ideas?
eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   HP LaserJet 4000TN & HP Color LaserJet 4500N

The APPLE ATTO version of the Express PCI PSC SCSI card implements a Fast & Wide Single-Ended Bus. Its total cable length is limited to a nominal 1.5 meters, counting all extension cables and wiring on the boards of the drives.
I have used three drives when the original Apple "teflon" cable is used, and careful attention is paid to exactly which drive is terminated. For use in Mac OS X, the firmware should be updated with ATTO or Apple firmware updaters.
The APPLE/ATTO UL2D [with second internal connector removed] shipped in G4s, and should work fine in the Blue & White G3. It implements a faster Ultra2/LVD Bus, with very long cable lengths allowed, provided ALL drives are also LVD. It also has a separate external Bus. Firmware update for Mac OS X also required.
Booting from these cards under Mac OS X is an interesting issue. They are supported on G4s, and should be supported on G3s, but I have just noticed that I have not been using them to Boot G3s, since I accidentally did not have the drives available to do it. More research will be required.

  • MS694D Pro (MS6321) - SCSI Boot Problems

I am trying to boot off an Adaptec 29160 controller on a MS694D Pro (MS6321) system board. The unit also contains an ATA100 drive off the on board Promise Raid controller. This drive is meant to be the secondary drive.
When the ATA100 controller is disabled the system boots of the Adaptec. When the ATA100 is enabled it just hangs the system at the end of POST.
The boot sequence in the BIOS is set for SCSI, ATA.
Device order is : Floppy, CD-ROM, SCSI
I upgraded the system board to the latest BIOS, 11/21/01 version 3.7.
    Any thoughts?

I just now fixed it.  The drive is the 80GB WD with the 8MB cache.  I looked at the HD, and the jumper setting printed on the PCB don't match those on the sticker on the top of the drive.  I moved the jumper over one, and the thing boots right up with zero delay!  It's detected the drive and booting before the monitor even clicks on!
    I hope that helps!
