Lack of compatibility iWork iPad vs Mac is galling

Not being able to use different fonts/styles within a table cell in Numbers, not having thumbnails in Pages, etc on the iPad makes productivity limited at best in the classroom. iCloud becomes pretty useless too. Why sync if your document created on the laptop will be totally modified when you make changes on the iPad? This is frustrating since pretty basic. This is substantial stuff, not fluffy. And with new hardware updates coming out every 6 months - and fancy gadget-style features to boot, you can't fix this? Love our MAC/iPad in classroom, but might be looking for alternatives soon if Numbers/Pages on iPad don't become more compatible with the ones on laptop.

We realized this about a year ago when the rare iWork updates wouldn't solve our remaining issues. One they fixed, and was huge for our situation, we could finally open a Numbers sheet created on MBAir, and keep our colors and styles within a cell. Now, the last big improvement we need is to be able to make changes in a cell on iPad, and not lose all of those colors/styles. We're getting close. Thumbnails for Pages on iPad would make it perfect. Just love to work on the tablet.
We're not looking for full-fledged capability. What we do is pretty basic. And Numbers and Pages on iPad are very good, and best we've tried. We do have MS Office for MAC, but have rarely used it. When we did, it was to test iPad apps (Quick Office, Docs to Go, etc) to solve our issues already mentioned.
And now Apple is coming out with more hardware updates that we will probably eagerly buy. iWork people, iWork! Too bad 3rd-party Devs can't fix this. At least, they would care.

It used to be that to update the trial to the licensed version with the box, you just inserted the DVD & ran the installer to convert the trial to licensed. This changed with Snow Leopard. You now need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user.
Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his iDisk in For_iWork > iWork '09 > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

Yes. Mac mini runs OS X, iPad and iPhone run iOS - different operating systems
that require different versions of Pages, Numbers, & Keynote to run. Like
the iOS version, once you purchase the version for your Mac mini, you may install
it on as many OS X desktops/laptops/minis that you own.

Recording audio from iPad to Mac

I have an iPad app that allows you to download different audio presentations. However, the audio is trapped in the iPad app, which means I can't listen to it anywhere but the iPad. I'd like to transfer this audio to an MP3 so I can listen to it on my iPod in the car.
Any ideas how I can do a direct iPad to Mac audio recording? If there isn't a way to do that, is there some way short of putting a mic in front of the iPad?
Any ideas how the same thing might work for video?

I am a newby to MAC. The upside is when I pay another $60 to get them on the MAC (or do I buy iWorks?), the app for my iPad interaction is already in place. I suppose I missed that clear explanation from iTunes. OH well, good stuff anyway. Thank you Sir!

Are you going to give us any additional clues as to what you are really asking here?
1) The "HT5409" in your subject title reference implies you are dealing with AVCHD content. If true, then how did you transfer them to your iPad and how did you transfer them from your iPad to your your MacBook Air platform? As the HT409 topic clearly stated, this can be very important. In addition, how are the files stored? For instance , have you extracted the MPEG-4 AVC content as transport streams or is the content still in the device recorded file form? Are you trying to edit the content or convert it to M4V, MP4, or MOV files directly?
2) The "can i convert movies from iPad to mac laptop" part of your subject title is confusing. Yes, AVCHD files can be converted to simpler MPEG-4 AVC content that is compatible with all current and most older Mac computers and Apple mobile devices in MOV, MP4, and/or M4V file formats. However, how you do this will depend on the current form of the data and the target settings you wish to employ to ensure compatibility with the various target device possibilities. Further, non-AVCHD content (e.g., HD iPad video recordings) can also be downconverted to simpler settings in a similar manner if needed or required if that is your questing.
3) Depending on your operating system, both AVCHD and MPEG-4 AVC content should already be compatible with QT X v10.2 and v10.3 players if properly transferred to your laptop from the recording device. And, even if improperly transferred, may still be converted to useable/compatible formats as long as the file itself has not been corrupted by your, as yet, unspecified workflow.
4) What does "will not play on my mac air laptop with quicktime installed" mean here? Are you trying to play an AVCHD movie in the QT 7 player or one of the QT X players? If the latter, which one? Are you getting any error message? If so, what are they? If not playing in your main user account on the computer, does it play useing a different account? Do the files play in other, third-party multimedia players?
Basically, your question is the equivalent of my saying my car won't start but failing to mention whether or not I am out of gas, my battery is dead, or that I have removoed the distributor cap, wires, or spark plugs from the engine. To properly solve the issue we need all possible information that you can provide describing exactly what you are doing, how you are doing it, what is not working as your expect it should, and what your goals are. In cases where you cannot answer such questions, it is often helpful to simply post/upload a sample "problem" file and let other users here examine it to determine the problem and/or suggest a specific solution for your particular system/configuration combination.

Call Apple and they will send you a box to ship it in for service. Should take less than a week to get it back. Mine was picked up on a monday, and I got ti back on a thursday.

I have bought an iMac in august and an iphone 5S last week. I was able to download iWork for free for my iphone and my ipad 3. However, when I want to download iWork for my Mac it seems that I have to pay. I understood that iWork was free for buying a new idevice or mac. Could someone explain me if I can get iWork for my iMac and how?

iWork is only free for the device you have recently purchased. If you buy a new iOS device you can also install the iOS versions on your other compatible iOS devices you already own. However, this does not allow for free download of the OS X version of iWork. For that you would either need to already have previously purchased iWork '09, either from the Mac App Store or the earlier DVD, or bought a new Mac computer since 1 October (I think that's the date for eligibility).

No, the iWork apps are only available for the Mac. There are separate versions for iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) that are purchased from the iTunes Store. If you have an iCloud.com account there is iWork for iCloud that runs in a web browser, including web browsers on a PC. It is currently in beta & may not be available to all iCloud users yet.

Once deactivated the next step is very important: disable option in iCloud Find My iPhone: Settings / iCloud / Find My iPhone. If you do not do this the buyer can not use the device when you receive it and to be an iOS device "stolen".
Note: If you did not know step 3 and the new owner already has the device, you can turn off iCloud.com from accessing your data with iCloud and entering the "Search". It is important that the device in question is on and connected to a Wi-Fi network. From there you desplegaréis the list of "My Devices" from the top and seleccionaréis the device to remove. Only lacking click on "Delete my account" should already be all erased or "Delete iPhone / iPad" if ye what not. When ready just have to desvncular device account. Now the new owner and may re-activate your iPhone from iTunes.

I found the reason for this and the solution couldn't be simpler. The issue is compatability. So, search for icloud using Windows search on bottom left and right click on it. Go to properties>compatability>Windows 7>apply>ok. do the same for iCloud photos. Then sign out of icloud and sign back in. Presto! You'll notice it will be a lot quicker to load too. After a year trying to figure it out I stumbled on it....It's worked ever since

IWork or Office:Mac

I just ordered a macbook air 13" and am quite excited to get it in 2 weeks. Have been looking up some reviews and was quite bummed to find out that it does not include iWork. Don't understand it since I'm used to office coming with windows.
Seeing as I need to pay to get it, what do you suggest I get? iWork or Office:mac?
I am leaning towards iWork since I quite like the features included in Keynote, and it'll come in handy since I do a lot of presentations at University.

I am a a longtime user of MS Office, and I find iWork (I have both MS OfficeMac and iWork), a bit awkward at best, in comparison.
I detest the new "features" paradigm of Lion's document saving, and have refrained from even updating my copy of iWork since Lion's feature set became available.
iCloud's interactivity with iWork is squarely centered on the iOS version of iWork's apps, so you won't be missing much there.
As far as Office compatibility of iWork. It is there, so you don't have to worry too terribly much about document sharing. But still, you are going to be much more productive from day one with a product you are already used to using.

If not, what happens if you remove the Apple ID on the iPad and then set it in Airplane Mode (allow a couple of minutes at this point) followed by re-adding the Apple ID ?
What, if any error messages are appearing on the Mac when you try to launch the App or Login to the iMessages server ?
Is the Apple ID linked to an iCloud account ?
In Messages 7 (Mountain Lion) this did not seem to be important but it seems it is in Mavericks/Messages 8
