Lag On Itunes

Hi,
I would like to know why my itunes is lagging when other application are running on my Pc. I've done all my updates so I the newest version of it. So If someone could help me I would be greatfull
thanks a lot

I have a pretty new, very up-to-date custom built Vista machine, and I have these same problems. I have a very similar problem: windows is moving just fine, everything runs smooth, but iTunes really lags. Not really the music/video, but just the actions of the program itself. One way to make it move a least a little faster is to shut off the mini-store (or the genius sidebar, if you have the newest version of iTunes). This helps, especially with slower internet connections. It doesn't really "fix" the problem, but really helped me.
I think the most annoying part is how it scrolls... I have a Microsoft Wireless keyboard and mouse, and I have to run the scroll wheel on my mouse SO fast to get it to scroll through music at all.
I hope this helps some.

  • Stupid slow lag with iTunes 11 on Windows7

    Before I mention anything else:
    - Running on Windows 7 64-bit with a 1.3GHz processor. My baby's getting old, but my only problems besides iTunes 11 in the past year was some lag playing Skyrim.
    - My iTunes library is tiny. We're talking less than 25GB of data altogether, just under 14.5BG of that music.
    - My RAM is 4GB: enough to watch a 1080p Blue-Ray rip no problem
    - All my Win7 updates are done and good (to my chagrin, cause they take so much space most times)
    - My last defrag was last week
    - the last time I ran CCleaner on all my drives was last week. I ran it a few times, cause I was also doing some spring cleaning in my file folders.
    - C: drive has more than 20GB of free space, iTunes media's on D: (more than 150GB free) but it's been like that since before iTunes v.7
Granted all of this, if I intend to use iTunes to play anything, I can't use any other programs, or attempt to do anything on iTunes while it's playing music. If I shut down all other programs and iTunes is the only thing running, I still get lag clicking a song title on the list.
The display I've got going is just list view, plain and simple. Genius is off, no automatic synching (I don't get wi-fi through the cement wall anyway on my iPod). Playback is nothing fancy.
God forbid I should try to minimize the window, scroll down a playlist, open a program and use it (Notepad for goodness' sake!! Chrome okay, even with just one tab, Word, fine. But Notepad??). Wanna browse the iTunes store? Out of the question. Insta-crash, especially if you're in another country's store. And exit iTunes? HA. Why would you want to do that. Who wants to do that. I have to end the process in my task manager 4 times over as many minutes before it'll quit.
Anyone else seeing this BS, or am I alone in a corner over here? Anyone found a way to fix the lag, freezing, and skipping playback besides reverting to an older version? I'd really like to avoid re-writing my entire library all over again after I just did it.

I forgot to mention 64 bit Windows 7.

  • Lag in iTunes Playback via ATV

I recently noticed a serious lag in my iTunes playback over my ATV.  I can see the library and the playlists, but when I select music, I get the spinning wheel for various lengths of time until it finally loads.  Playback may or may not be consistent after loading.  I may listen to part of one song, or it may go for three hours, no consistency there.
Nothing else is affected on the network.  All other iOS devices connected to WiFi have strong connections.  Computer and ATV are on the same network, no firewalls.  I am running a 2008 MBP on 10.9.2 with iTunes and ATV both on most recent SW versions.  Modem and router are both Netgear, and have been reset.
    Any thoughts?

  • Rotation not working, lag (Music, iTunes store)

I got my iPod Touch for my birthday last year April - I'm guessing it's 3rd generation (No camera). A few months after I got it, I noticed that sometimes the rotation function (that portrait orientation thing) stops working; this was first noticed when I tried with watching Youtube videos. Now it refuses to work altogether. Also, the iPod lags to the point where it sometimes exits out to home screen, so I have to retry whatever I wanted to do. Usually this happens with Music, iTunes, App store, etc. I have also never jailbroken the iPod.
Yes, I know about the Portrait Orientation lock. Toggling that doesn't do anything.
I'm guessing that for problems like this, the usual solution would be to restore back to the "New" settings. I've read around a little, and heard cases where resetting didn't completely solve the problem. In fact, I'm hesitant as to whether I should even do a restore since I've done one before, and while it fixed the portrait rotation function at first, it started acting up again within days.
Right now I'm restoring the iPod because I finally have the time. If restoring doesn't work, do I have to go to the Apple Store? What if I don't have warranty (I'm not sure whether the warranty extends past a year; my mom bought this for me)? I can't afford a new iPod.
Edit: I just reset my iPod and it looks like the rotation function is still broken.

I'm having the same exact issue.  Did the restore from a backup and it was good for about a week.  Only difference is I'm on iOS 4.3.3 (iPod Touch 3rd Generation).  I'm surprised there isn't more talk of this as it seems like it should be more of a common occurance?  I tried reset all settings only as someone suggested on another forum but that had no affect...seems to be software related though.

  • Anyone else noticing a lag in iTunes Updates?

    Hey folks,
I have a MAC and a PC which both use iTunes and have apps for my iPhone or iPod touches.
I've been noticing that over the last week if a update is availalbe that it's better to wait a few hours before taking it... Otherwise iTunes downloads the update, but then the software still states and update is available...
Looking at iTunes it looks like it took it but still listing an update available.
Are the iTunes servers having some issues replicating lately and thus the reason for the slowness?
I'm wondering if apples releasing more HD movies and thus causign the replication slowness... But in either case it can become annoying, that's why I usually leave some of the updates for the next day to apply.
Just curious if this is universal or only applicable to the Eastern Coast (New York/Mass vacinity)

Try this: open the multi-tasking bar (double tap the Home button); press and hold any icon on the bar until the read "close" badge appears. Now close all the apps on the bar. Go to Settings, Safari. Clear the cache, and make sure Block Pop-ups is ON>
Then restart the phone. Does that help?

  • ITunes lag when I plug my iPhone in

    Hello,
I've noticed a pretty annoying lag in iTunes 7.7.1 that did not occur when I used 7.7.0. Whenever I plug my iPhone into my iMac there is about a 5 minute delay before my iPhone actually shows up under the devices tab and I get the spinning beachball. Once the phone appears, everything goes smooth until I want to sync. When I click sync or apply any changes to the device, there is another 5-10 minute delay and I again, get the beachball. I know it isn't my phone because it loads right up fine on my PC and also on my friends laptop. Is this a problem with 7.7.1?

I'm having the same problem. I plug in my iPhone and it takes iTunes 5 minutes of spinning ball to begin syncing. During this time iTunes shows in the Activity Monitor as "not responding." iTunes works fine if iPhone is not plugged in, but freezes if phone is plugged in. iPhoto seems to work normally.
I've seen other threads in this forum where the 3G phone people say that iTunes 7.7.1 solved this problem for them. I have an original iPhone and it didn't solve it for me. All of this phone nuttiness started the day they released the new iPhone and software version 2.0.
I'm not too impressed with Apple's response either. This should have been fixed by now.

  • ITunes video playback lags badly ever since 10.3.6

I am now running 10.3.7 and iTunes 10.5.3 on a 2011 MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz, i7. 8GB RAM) and video always stutters or lags in iTunes, even without any other applications open and offline. I have tried zapping pram and the usual tactics for things like this, and hoped the update to 10.3.7 would solve it but no luck.  Help?

Just updated iTunes to most recent version. Now I'm getting jerky video playback in BOTH iTunes and QT Pro (latest version). CPU use is very high but random; ditto with video playback (i.e., doesn't hang up on the same scene/time).
I had this issue a little over a year ago after updating iTunes to the then latest version. Got nowhere with Apple's "Service" texts. I played around with configs for a while and also re-installed iTunes. It has worked fine until yesterday (same symptoms as last time). As for the past "fix": nothing I can hang a hat on. Methinks Apple updated the version I re-installed with (tho' the version # was unchanged).

  • Itunes severely lagging and audio quality bad

whenever i open my itunes it takes a while to use and it lags, closing itunes takes about 1 to 2 minutes. is there anything i can do to speed it up, i have the most recent version of itunes. also, the audio crackles a lot, even if i use headphones ( so its not my macbook pro's speakers)

This is not normal behavior for itunes. You should look into what it is with your setup that is causing this behavior. Corrupted disk/files, storing your music on an external drive or nas?

  • ITunes movies lag across netowkr - but only in itunes.

I use itunes on my home network so my kids can watch movies in their rooms. I noticed the movies can be quite choppy and sometimes stutter. It's almost like the frame rate is dropping every other frame.
After a long testing process I have determined the movies only lag in itunes itself. If I watch them in VLC or even WMP I see no problem whatsoever.
My home network is gigabit with no bottlenecks of any kind.
I don't mind using VLC on my computer but I want my children to use itunes because it is so user friendly for them.
What kind of settings can I play with in itunes to prevent this lag from happening? Any suggestions?

Hi there. I'm having this same problem, but right now, viewing video in iTunes is my only option b/c my operating system is so old. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Slow start up and lag during usage

this last month, my i mac has started this delayed startup to log in. its taking its sweet time... like 30 seconds. (we are so spoiled ) and also web browsing is sluggish, only sometimes and only a bit.. sometimes I have to refresh the address.
Any ideas why this would be happening all the sudden and how do I fix it?
The response was like lightening for 9 months.. and now this.
Thanks for your input/feedback.. I am only a 9month old Mac user, and ipad/iphone one year prior to that. So.. big learning curve in operating systems knowledge. ANJ

Thank you so much for replying.
I did not restart the router/modem. I have an all in one just installed about a month ago.. both the router and modem were malfunctioning and Brighthouse changed it out.. I upgraded to a higherspeed combo.
The ipad connected immediately to the internet. - no problems
    Only have Safari installed
Itunes/Appstore load fairly quickly... more lag with itunes
My husband connects with a windows laptop.. no complaints
I mac is wi fi.. no ethernet connection- dont have a cord
As I answered the questions.. it occured to me that both my router and modem went bad.. Bright house suggested a power surge... Florida... Lightening. I have the Mac running through a back up battery/surge protector APC- and doubt there is an issue.. but... thought id mention it.
I did not restart the modem/router because everything else is working fine.-- but I will if you think it is relevant.
Regarding the browsing lag... it only hapens when I click on a link within a web page or am trying to a new address.. otherwise internet speed is good. And this isnt too concerning.. very minor.
My bigger concern is when the computer is alseep and I tap the track pad to awaken it... this is where the delay is.. I see a whitish/grayish screen that is transparent.. so I can see the window trying to load. Then, a bar of white bars grows indicating the window is loading.. then everything looks normal, but my cursor wont respond right away. neither will the key board. I have to wait for the little color wheele to appear and spin and then I get a blinking cursur in the password box... yay,,, I can finally type my password to log into the computer..
Thank you for any other input you may have. Angela

    Dear All,

The issue happened when I connect it to the the 27 Cinema display, things are getting slow, and my system is kind of lagging. Itunes music crackle and opening and surning on the web is not smooth.

You are not addressing Apple, but a community of unpaid volunteers. So ASAP won't cut it. Also, you should refrain from posting personal information (like your email address) in the body of your comments, as this is part of the community usage guidelines.
Have you reinstalled the latest Boot Camp Windows 7 drivers, just in case Microsoft overwrote some of them during the Windows 7 security update?

NO.... he has a workstation, and not MBP, nor are "drivers already loaded."
    How I would proceed -
Install Windows on its own drive.
    Pull all the other drives.
Boot from Windows 7 Pro DVD
Forget Boot Camp Assistant, it doesn't do anything - unless you really want to install Windows on the SAME drive as Mac OS - not ideal and not what most of Mac Pro owners do.
Just insert your OS X DVD once Windows is up to date - helps to buy the SP1 OEM version $129.
Run Apple SETUP.exe (Boot Camp 3.0.x drivers) and update with ASU or manually to 3.2.
No you don't need to go back and use that ATI. And you dont' want to be in the situation of changing from ATI to Nvidia and all the hassle that adds. you are fine.
The Mac Pro is as close as anything to a standard Wintel workstation.
Add MS Security Essentials or KIS or whatever you favor. KIS2011 or NIS2011 are good, MSSE 2.0 is free and based on their enterprise product.

  • QuickTime Player Gray Screen Help

So yesterday I rented a movie from Itunes. It was really slow and lagging on Itunes so I tried to play it on the quick time player and there was no audio or video, just subtitles showing on the bottom right corner of the QuickTime player. I updated both Itunes and QuickTime player and my drivers are up to date. I'm using windows 7 on PC. I tried to play the movie on windows media player but it says it needs the proper codec. I changed the wire-wall settings and changed some settings on the QuickTime player and still no response I have 7 hours left until my rental is over.

  • IPod loses all content when it is sync.

For this past week when I would update my 30GB ipod it shows it updates but afterwards all contents are gone and it contains zero. Then when I plug it back in it lags the itunes store then says I have to restore it and download everything again. Sometimes itunes freezes up when connected and it takes awhile for it to connect to the ipod. I ma getting tired of this ipod as I have had other problems with this. I hope I can get help because I am not satisfied with this product. I had it serviced once already few months ago and it also has songs freezes and get stuck. I am at my wits end on this.

Did you reset the iPod using the two-button combo?

Did you using the Restore button in iTunes to erase the iPod and initialize the iPod's software?
Did you try reinstalling iTunes, using the latest version downloaded from Apple.

  • Best way to switch to new laptop?

Hi all. I have a 2 year old MacBook Pro that I'm experiencing a lot of lag with (iTunes stuttering, mouse delays, etc.). I've spent a fair amount of time troubleshooting and haven't come up with anything that has helped. I'm about due for a new laptop anyway and with the release of the new MacBooks I figure it's probably time to pull the trigger.
I've spent a good deal of time configuring my system and setting up Quicksilver and everything. I'd prefer to not have to do that all over again. I have a Time Machine backup and would like to use that, if possible, to move everything over to the new machine.
Given the issue with the lag, part of me thinks a clean operating system install would be best. However, unless I'm missing something, I think that would mean having to go in and install all my apps, re-config prefs, etc. I really want to avoid that.
My thought was to try to just move everything over from the Time Machine backup and see if the new hardware fixes things. Then if not, either spend more time trying to fix the issue or do a clean reinstall and bite the bullet on reconfiguring everything.
Does that sound like the best way to proceed?
P.S. Is it as easy as it seems like it might be to move all data, apps, prefs from one machine to another using Time Machine or is it more complicated?

The best way is to use Migration Assistant. When you start up your new machine you will be asked whether you want to migrate data from another machine. This involves connecting them by Firewire cable and starting the source machine in FireWire Target Disk Mode. (New updates may allow doing this via USB, but I don't know how this works).
You should do this before setting up any user accounts on the new Mac, and should choose to import the user(s) from the old one. You can choose whether to bring applications over: if it's the same version of Leopard this would probably be OK, but many people feel it's better to reinstall. In any event it won't over-write the included Apple applications such as Safari.
When you have done this you will find your Home Folder there intact, and registered programs will still be registered (unless the registration depends on the particular computer); all your data will be there, including bookmarks and contacts etc.
