  • Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and Cisco Prime compatibility

    Hello All,
I had review all the compatibility matrix of versions of Cisco Prime 1.2, 1.4 and 2.0, and just can't find the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X series as a listed device, which really surprises me.
    Can you clear that out??
    Thanks,

  • Cisco catalyst 2960 booting garbage, help on restore IOS

    Dear All,
This is my first time on terminal access of Cisco Catalyst 2960 (2960TC-L), normally would use the web configuration for most task.
Now the switch has an issue with the web interface and when I try to access through terminal, I was greeted with garbage upon the booting of the switch, I searched for the terminal boot process and it wasn't what I was expected for my switch. I was a bit dumbfound now of how can I recover the firmware to its default stage, now that I cannot even boot through its terminal console.
Any help is highly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

    Hi,
I just verified with my colleague of whom have done quite a few bits before I took over his task.
His reply was he actually did an IOS flash before, though I'm not sure how he did it, but according to him, it was actually a success and the web interface still works for few times before it become like this.
As I tried another time to goes into root mode (or Admin mode??) for the switch, the steps as I performed below:
    1. Refer to cisco-2960-putting-setting.jpg for the settings. I press Open and it does display the console Window, no issue there.
    2. I hold the "mode" button on the switch and turn on the switch power, and after few seconds the screen display as such (refer to cisco-2960-putty-output2.jpg), the SYST L.E.D. did flash with following pattern: Green (blink ~15 times) then Orange-Green (repeat blink twice) then Green (stable light), for this I was expecting it to goes off after few seconds but it didn't, I wait about a minute before I let go the "mode" button.
    3. After I let go the "mode" button, it goes to the screen (refer cisco-2960-putty-output3.jpg), and the SYST still blinking, possibly infinitely... with the console output screen stays like that... and whatever I entered display weird/garbage characters instead, I can't do anything on it.
Each tries display different weird characters, as the SYST still blinking infinitely.
I'm unsure if I'm giving enough details for online troubleshooting, I'll try my best to give as per instructed.
    Thank you for your time.

  • MIB Extension - Cisco Catalyst 2960 -

    Hi everyone,
I would like to monitor a cisco catalyst 2960 provided with IOS v15. I accessed mib files and I found that many component are disabled or have no entry in it (check attachment).
So my question is : Can I extend the mib to support more OIDs ? and if so, I'll be glad if you give a tutorial or example !
    Thank you so much.
    Best regards,

Your ipRouteTable and EGP MIBs are disabled because the 2960 is a layer-2 switch only, so it does not have any ip routing or EGP.  The MIBs will be disabled for features your switch does not support.

  • Catalyst 2960 and SGE500 switches

    Hi,
Can we  on the same network use Cisco Catalyst 2960 and Cisco SGE500 switches and share the same VLANs ?

    Hi,
I didn't find VLAN support in key feautures of SGE500 but I'm sure it is there. For VLAN sharing you must configure trunk between switches. The number of VLAN must be the same (exluded some cases).
For sharing VLAN information (VLAN count, names etc) the switches must support VTP protocol, not sure that SGE500 support it. But VTP is not necessary for trunking between switches.

  • Installed wrong image on Cisco Catalyst 2960

some time ago I did an IOS upgrade on the Catalyst 2960, however I used the wrong image and caused the switch CAN NOT load properly. My switch is c2960 but I used c2960s, what a big mistake.
When the switch boots, and it hangs on the execution of the image, because c2960s image will not work on c2960.
Anyone got some idea how I can fix this? I tried to restart the switch and pressed "Break" on the terminal, and it didn't stopped.

  • Strange issue with new Cisco Catalyst 2960 (IOS)

    Hello all,
I am upgrading a older 2950(100M) switch replacing it with a gigabit 2960. Installed it in the same rack, the configuration is practically non-existent just set the passwords and IP. We run a single VLAN flat network for this so I started out by patching it to the existing switch, after a few days we had an opportunity to migrate because there was some downtime so I disconnected the cables on the old and moved them to the new.. Everything seemed fine, there is connectivity and things operate, but a few days later we noticed that some network transfer activities are slow. There are no errors or log entries showing on the new switch or the old one, but the low throughput is persistent.
All ports show 1G Full duplex as they should, but what I see when I test is that traffic tests look almost asynchronous when passing switch boundaries with normal read speeds and slow writes. Reversing the direction of the test hosts I get slow reads and fast writes so it seems to 'stick' to one side of the traffic path. Testing the same equipment against differente targets without the switch boundary crossing does not show the problem. All Intra-switch tests look good (gig switches transfer near a gig and 100 switches near 100), but the moment there is a crossing things behave strangely regardless of the target (new switch is center backbone with most hosts, but does no routing). Network layout is essentially a T with everything radiating from the new switch. I can eliminate the old switch soon, but I still need to resolve the problem with the crossing to the other switch.
Everything seems to point at the inter switch links. One is a patch cable under two feet, and the other is a dedicated fiber site link. We had the vendor confirm that the site link showed no issues, but having the same symptoms on both links makes me suspect the switch has something odd happening..
I checked for duplex issues first, but didn't find any. I flushed the arp caches in all of the switches (3 total) and all of the computers as well, but the problem persists.
Could this be an STP issue ?   If so how can I set this switch as the STP root and force a refresh..
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Now the new switch (at center between other two, patched to above, fiber dedicated provider link to remote)
This includes two port command sets because it's in the middle interconnecting the other switches.

There really isn't anything odd configured, but since CDP doesn't cross the fiber link I think it must be a q-q tunnel..

  • Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 - Support for Cisco Catalyst 3560-C Series Switches

    Hello together
I have a customer which uses the following switch. Last year I have installed LMS 4.1 for him to manage the switches. Unfortunatly the switch model is not supported. According to the information found on the following site the switch is supported for most of the modules in LMS:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.1/device_support/table/lms41sdt.html
The oid object of the device is the following: 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1465
Supported Software: 12.2(55)EX (Customer has 12.2(55)EX3
    Version Support Type: Device Update
So I updated all device updates I was able to find.
Step 1: For that I went to Admin > System > Software Center > Schedule Device Downloads and created a job where I have downloaded the latest versions of all packages.
Step 2: Installed the downloaded packages Admin > System > Software Center > Device Update and installed all the packages.
Unfortunatly I don't see the same result like described in the Supported Device Table for LMS 4.1.
    - Cisco View -> works
    - Inventory and Config Collection -> works
    - Fault Monitor not working -> Error Code Unsupported
    - Network Topology Layer 2 Services -> Device Type ciscoProducts.1465, Symbol Question Mark
    - VLAN Management -> Doesn't work
    - User Tracking > seems also not to work
When I open the report for supported devcies (Reports > System > Device Support) and search for C3560C... I find the following devices, but not mine which i need:
    C3560C-8PC-S     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1466
    C3560CG8PC         .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1317
    C3560CCG8TC     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1318
    wsC3560CPD8ptS     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1368
Does anybody have experience with the same switch type / model? Am I doing something wrong or is this type of switch not implemented correctly till now? Further the docuemntation supported devices would be wrong.
    Thanks for any feedback Erich

Thanks but I just heard back from my Cisco SE and he assures me that an AP will NOT use up a license.
I've asked him to verify his answer for me.
Is your answer based on real world expereince (the best there is)?  That is, are you running Prime LMS 4.1 and does it indeed use up a license for each light-weight AP it discovers & manages?
Thanks for mentioning options 1-3 but I do not wish to employ any of them.  I don't mind buying the additional licenses for APs ... I just need to know if I have to or not.
    Ian.

  • Cisco Catalyst 2924 xl Series Switches

How I can restore the basic IOS on the switch. The switch have no ios. The switch prompt on Switch: not Switch# or switch>.
    Thanks
    Syed Hasan,
    [email protected]

    Hi Syed,
You have to first check if there is any image in switch or not so that you can manually boot from switch: prompt but as you said there is no image in the switch you have to go for xmodem procedure to upgrade the switch.
Have a look at this link and just follow step by step instructions and you will be good to go
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps607/products_tech_note09186a00800946e5.shtml#xmodem
HTH, if yes please rate the post.

  • Cisco Catalyst 2960 - Model WS-C2960-24TC-S

    Hello,
I'm not an everyday networking guy - but have been taksed with getting these ready for an install. Our firm has some "templates" we use to help me along bu thtey are fo rthe model without the "S" at the end. Firmware needs to be at 12.2 (58) SE2 for special reasons.
I have 4, two are to be Level 2, two are to be Level 3. Each has 24 ports, plus 2 RJ45 GIG ports and 2 Fiber Ports.
    Questions are:
The Level 2's need to use the fiber to connect long distance to one unit.
    - What shoult the trunking ports on these be? 23 & 24? Forget the 2 GIG prots for trunking as one is used for something else?
    - What would be the time zone for California / Cisco wise?
There's a lot more questions on this - but this is my starting point. I apologize that I'm not up on this, hope you'll provide some slack / time :-)
    Thank you ...

    Dear
the fast Ethernet interface on the switch is meant only for OOB (out of band management) so this way you will not be able to route traffic. It will not communicate to any other subnets apart from the connected subnet. Its better you create a SVI in the switch and use that SVI for management purposes.
    regards
    Najeeb

  • Cisco catalyst 2960

Would appreciate any help regarding these questions from a newbie.  The 2960 has 24 10/100 ports and 2 uplink ports 10/100/1000.
    1)  I believe 10/100 Ethernet uses 4 wires and 1000 Ethernet uses 8 wires.  Will the uplink ports connect all 8 of its wires across the 10/100 ports?
    2)  Can a 10/100 port connect to another switch using a crossover cable?  If so, what happens if a 10/100 port is connected to a 1000 port?  Would any damage to the switch occur?
    Thanks.

Depends.  If both uplink ports are 1Gig and you have a Cat5 cable with 2 pairs terminated (4 links) then the speed will only negotiate to 100mbps.
    2)  Can a 10/100 port connect to another switch using a crossover cable?  If so, what happens if a 10/100 port is connected to a 1000 port?  Would any damage to the switch occur? As long as you leave speed and duplex setting to auto and MDI/MDI-X will kick in automatically.
