Latest Safari Version: search field is now quite smaller

I installed the most recent version of Safari last night. Now, for some reason, the search field in the top right corner is quite small. Because of this, the suggested Google keywords that appear in the drop down are now truncated.
Does anyone know how to manually make that search field wider? I tried customizing the toolbar, but that didn't help.
Thanks!

HI,
Drag the bottom right corner of the Safari window to extend the search field area.

  • Bing hijacking my safari smart search field

    Hi all,
after updating to Yosemite recently I have noticed that whenever I type a search into the safari smart search field, the results are redirected through the bing search engine.
I have tried changing it to Google, through the safari preferences and Duckduckgo too but its all to no avail. Everytime, the search returns bing suggestions. I hate bing, but I hate not having control over the search even more.

I doubt that the uninstaller completely removes the malware. Like "InstallMac" itself, it's distributed by a criminal.
You installed the "InstallMac" trojan. I suggest the procedure below to disable it. This procedure may leave a few small files behind, but it will permanently deactivate the trojan (as long as you never reinstall it.)
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including one called "Omnibar," and any that have the word "Conduit," "Spigot," or "InstallMac" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
    Step 2
In the Applications folder, there may be items named "Installer," "InstallMac," "Reset Search," or "Uninstall IM Completer." Drag each such item to the Trash.
    Step 3
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.
If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder should open with a file named "com.genieo.completer.download.plist" selected. There may be other files in the folder with a name beginning in "com.genieo." Move them all to the Trash.
Move this folder, if it exists, to the Trash in the same way:
    ~/Library/Application Support/com.genieoinnovation.Installer
Log out or restart the computer and empty the Trash.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install this trojan. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad has a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind this attack has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.

  • What happened. Running windows 8.1 adobe did an update to latest reader version and broke it. now cannot reinstall older version.  r

Adobe updated reader to latest version and broke it.  tried everything on the adobe troubleshooting guide.  uninstalled with intent to install older version, but now that won't even work.  Old version was working fine- now I cannot access any of my .pdf files.  trying to get work done - totally frustrated and disgusted.

If you are in Windows -which you haven't said- you can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

  • Google search field is now eBay

After upgrading to Firefox 4.01, my Google Search field just to the right of the URL address field, has now become an eBay Search. I do not want this and I want it changed back to Google. Can someone please help me with this?
    Thank you!

The search bar (the field where you type in the search terms) should have a little down arrow click on that. You will then get a list of search engines to choose from and should be able to choose Google from that. You also get an option to manage the search engines that allows you to add or remove them, or reset to the default search engines.
    * see [[search bar]] <-- clickable link ---
Post back with how you get on.
(In some cases installed software may be making changes to Firefox settings)
    * see also [[searches are redirected to another site.]]

    Hi Vulcan37!
I have some troubleshooting steps for you that can help you resolve this issue. First, you will want to try just performing a reset on your phone by following the instructions in this article:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
You may also need to make sure your Safari settings are set for accepting cookies. More information on this can be found here:

  • How can I update the latest Safari version?

How can I update my Safari?  My system keeps telling me "there are no new updates" but email is telling me Safari needs updating.

You need to upgrade the computer’s OS or switch browsers.
To upgrade, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • Where is the search field in Safari 6.0?

I have completed the Apple Software update today of several programs, but have not yet updated to MT. Lion.  My Safari browser now seems to be lacking a search box/field in the upper right.  I think that prior to the update there was such a box in the upper right of the url address box.  Can this be restored, or am I imagining things?  Thanks.

The search field is now part of the address bar. Putting anything into it other than a website address will perform a Google search.

I updated to latest Safari version (7.0.4) but the problem persists.
I tried downloading a new version of Safari for Mac OS X Mavericks but couldn't find it available.

The pop ups are malware. It's not necessary to reinstall Safari.

Unstable means it can vary in stability day by day as it can be crash prone to being stable. Features can be a work in progress for a while. The May 24 Nighty build was crash prone for a lot of testers for example.

  • Which version of Safari adds the feature "Smart Search Field"?

The so called version of Safari's "Smart Search Field" will include function that automatically give suggestion based on what you type in the search field, just like this
Which version of Safari add this function?

I just spoke with Apple Enterprise Support since you got me curious as to why there were 2 versions with the same number. Apparently the 47.1MB one was a small update and they didn't up the version number. They couldn't tell me what the update was, but the 47.1MB is the most current.
Not sure why yours keeps reverting back to 4.1.3 though. Have you tried deleting the update and re-downloading it?
