Launch PDF

I'm looking for ideas.
Up to now I've used Flash 8 to launch swf files and it has
worked terrifically for that. Now, however, I have an application
where I need to launch pdf files within a flash environment. Can
Flash do that? Also, is there a way that Flash can search through
these pdf files as in a "user search." Thank you very much.

NO, I'm not storing that file in Blob. i'm not storing it in database. i'm just transfering it from client location to server location . That's it.
But i'm storing both the path from where i picked the file and where i uploaded. That's client path in PT_FILE_PATH field and server path in PT_FILE_SERVER_PATH.
now i want to get that file from server location and show it only on Browser.. Not storing in database, justing putiing in folder at server location.

  • Authorware error launching pdfs

    Hi all,
I was big in Authorware from 1999 - 2005 but have migrated to Flash since then.
I have a program that has 34 lessons created in that time frame and distributed on CD. That program is starting to get a lot of use again, and to my delight it still runs pretty well. However, there are links throughout the CD that launch pdfs which are local the CD when I click on the link it launches the pdf perfectly but when I close it, the document closes but I am left with a white screen over my program. The program is still running back there but I cannot get rid of the big white box over it that held the pdf.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gene

Assuming you have all PDFs in a folder called 'pdf', it would be calc icon code something like this:
    JumpOutReturn("" , FileLocation^"pdf\\filename.pdf")
    From the A'ware Functions dialog:
    JumpOutReturn("program" [, "document"] [, "creator type"])
JumpOutReturn opens the application you specify in program and then Authorware continues its presentation in the background. Use JumpOutReturn only in calculation icons.
When you specify the argument program, be sure to use the application's exact name. On Windows, it is also a good idea to specify the application's extension. Unless the application to which you are jumping is stored in the same folder as the Authorware file or Windows' search path, you'll need to specify the program's path.
[ERIK: Generally you can leave this empty as the OS should automatically determine the proper parent program.]
The optional argument document opens the other application with a specific file. It's best to store this file in the same folder as the Authorware file; otherwise, you'll need to specify a path as part of the argument. If you specify only document without also specifying program, Authorware prompts you to locate the appropriate application.
[ERIK: same as above, this shouldn't happen in most cases]
The optional third argument, available on the Macintosh, specifies the application's creator type (a four-character code) and helps Authorware locate the application on the user's system. It is useful to include the creator type if users may have changed the names or locations of the program files. If you have ResEdit, to find out a program's creator type use the Get Info command. If you don't want to specify a document, but you're including a creator type, insert a null string for the first argument. To jump to other Authorware files (rather than to other applications) use the JumpFile and JumpFileReturn functions.
    [ERIK: this is totally outdated]

  • Can't launch PDF in Production mode

I am publishing a Captivate CBT to my LMS, but I cannot get
the Captivate program to launch the PDF's I have embedded within
the text. When I publish the docs are included with the files to
move to my LMS. In other words, once the Captivate program is in
production there are links to certain documents I want my learners
to use for job aids. It won't launch the content. I have everyone
of them set to "launch URL or File" from the edit mode of
Captivate. This is my 3rd attempt, am I doing something wrong or is
the person managing my LMS wrong?

    Hi arewers,
Do you have Adobe Reader installed, by any chance? If so, are you aware if it was the PPC or Intel version which you installed? In any case, for the time being, have a quick look in 'HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/' using Finder and see if there's an Adobe plugin lying around. If there is, try moving it out of the folder and restarting Safari.

  • Full Screen mode cancelled by launching PDF in Browser Window

There are quite a few of these posts on here. After Flash 9
the fullscreen fscommand no longer retains its fullscreen display
if you use getURL to launch a browser window to display either a
web page or a PDF. All of the previous posts have been "answered"
by the Flash Jester Jugglor Support Team, unashamedly plugging
JSTART and JUGGLOR to everyone raising this issue. When all we
really need is a response from Adobe on how we can fix this -
because it's obviously a BUG - and serves no real purpose.
I DON'T want to buy JUGGLOR, I tried it years ago and found
it buggy and unfathomable. All I want is to be able to keep my
    fullscreen!
The cynic in me wonders whether FlashJester might be owned by
Adobe in some way, and by introducing this bug they're hoping to
raise additional revenue from selling all those copies of
    JUGGLOR....?

most likely the example you got has a flaw, I've created a
few flex apps, and the work fine on full screen using ie6 or ie7 or
firefox. Try debugging it so you'll figure out what's the
    issue

  • Launching PDF in Firefox yeilds "Could not launch Acrobat.".

I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.6 with Acrobat Reader 8.1.1. When I click on a PDF on a web page I get the error "Could not launch Acrobat.".
The file "nppdf32.dll" is in the Firefox plugins folder.
If I double-click a PDF file on my hard drive, Acrobat launches fine.
    Can anyone help?

    >>Under Tools->Options->Applications, I have nothing for "Adobe" in my content Type. Any ideas how to get it to populate in there?
Assuming you have acrobat installed, this worked for me:
    1. start acrobat (for me this was Acrobat Reader 8 )
    2. help -> repair acrobat reader installation
    3. stop and restart firefox
now I have entries for pdf and everything works again
[for me, this problem was apparently caused by installing a program that *took the liberty* of installing an ancient version of Acrobat even though I already had 8 installed. After that happened, Firefox refused to open pdf files. I uninstalled the ancient version of acrobat, rebooted etc. etc. to no avail, then found this thread, and looked in Tools->Options->Applications to find nothing for "Adobe"]

  • Launch PDF from HTML and execute search

Is it possible using JavaScript in an HTML doc to launch a PDF and execute a search.query with a passed-in search parameter? TIA

Hello, George, thanks for following up.  I went into Advanced->Document Processing->Document JavaScripts and put the code at the top of the file outside of the dummy function declaration I had to insert to activate the edit button.  It looks like this:
// Split the file path into an array
    var aPath = this.path.split("/");
// Remove the last element, which is the file name
    aPath.pop();
// Join the path elements back together and add the index file
    var cIdxPath = aPath.join("/") + "/Support Documents/SupDocs.pdx";
    search.query ("Enhanced Tactical Automated Security System (eTASS)", "Index", cIdxPath);
    function Search()
It runs fine when I launch the PDF directly into the reader by double-clicking in file explorer in the folder above "Support Documents".  When I load the PDF from an HTML file in the same folder, however, the script does not run.  I set the reader preferences to force loading in the reader even when launched from a browser, and the script still will not execute.  I tried adding a button to the PDF and attaching the search script to it.  Again, it runs when launching directly but not from the HTML document.  Otherwise, the PDF is empty, and I'm using a relative URL and JS to load it from the HTML doc, such as:
    document.location = "mySearch.PDF"
    or
    window.open("mySearch.PDF", "searchwin");
Neither one works.  This product has to run from a CD-ROM, so I haven't bothered to test it via http service.  Any suggestions?  Thanks again!

  • Embed and Launch PDF from an AppleScript

I've written an Applescript, and built an interface for it in XCode. Everything works great, but I have a button I want to use to launch a help guide from within the finished application. The idea is to include the PDF in the app, so that whenever it gets installed somewhere, the button will always launch the guide.
I'm totally stuck as to how to do it, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

The regular help information that you access via your application's Help menu uses HTML (see Apple Help Programming Guide). You can use PDFs, but that involves creating a PDF View in *Interface Builder* and loading your document into it - see the PDF Kit Reference Collection, specifically the PDFDocument and PDFView class references. With either method your help files can be included in the application bundle - see the Bundle Programming Guide for methods to access items.

  • Launch pdf from Standalone

I'm distributing my Captivate project via CD, so chose to
publish as a Standalone project. I have pdfs that are included in
the same folder as my exe. When I click the links to these pdfs, it
launches Internet Explorer and I get a "Page Not Found" error. When
I publish the project as Flash files, the links work OK, but when
someone inserts the CD, they get the Flash security warning, which
I think may throw some users off. I tried saving the Word docs as
htm, but that didn't help. Can you have links from a Standalone
    project?

    Hi again Evelita
Linking to other files in an exe output is no problem. All
you have to do is specify the absolute path as it will be found on
the users machine. So for a CD distribution, I would recommend that
you manually type in the full path for the reference material e.g
    D:\ProjectXYZ\Reference_Materials\whatever.pdf.
Hint - I actually copy all my reference materials to a CD
with the expected path built in and then just reference my project
to that. The only drawbacks you can expect is if your users have a
different drive specced as the CD drive, in which case the manual
path capture is the better one.
Lastly, just make sure that you click on the little
whatsisname next to the file path in the button properties dialogue
box and select to open in a new window AND to NOT continue playing
    movie.
Helpful I hope, insane am I

  • [mac] hot to launch PDFs/AVIs from a mac player?

    Hi all,
I need to create a movie with Flash that runs on Macintosh.
I can do this easily with Windows, using lots of solution
    provided by
    developers around the word.
I expecially use a little exe file that I can configure to
    run any
kind of file (PDF, AVI, DOC) from inside a flash movie just
    calling
the installed app that will then open the required file.
Doing this I can let the user open a PDF in acrobat (if
    installed)
    directly from the flash movie.
But I don't know how to do this on a mac system (OSX).
    can you help me?
    TIA
    tony

I have followed your advice, but the problem persists.
I trashed the application, the original user account preference files, the hard drive Library application support files for Photoshop Elements, and everything else Spotlight could find with Photoshop or PS2 in its name.  I created a new user account, installed the application from the CD, and repaired Permissions.  Launching the application brought up the splash screen, loaded all of the paintbrushes etc., then "The application Photoshop Elements quit unexpectedly".  The Report file begins with the following information:
         Command: Photoshop Elements 2.0
         Path:    /Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 2/Photoshop Elements 2.0/Contents/MacOS/Photoshop Elements 2.0
         Parent:  WindowServer [14119]
         Version: 2.0 (2.0)
         PID:    14222
         Thread: 0
         Exception:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
         Codes:      KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000
and goes on to list more details in Unix-speak.
Do you have any other ideas to try?

  • How to launch PDF in Acrobat from AIR app?

I'm porting an AS3 app to AIR -- one of the requirements is that an external PDF file be launched with Acrobat -
I know that  AIR can display PDFs internally, but it's too late to change project specs.
I was using fscommand and a .bat file (this will be run on Windows), but that won't work under AIR.
I am currently using navigateToURL() and using the AIR-resolved url -- this opens the PDF in a browser -- I'd like to have it open in Acrobat.
Thanks for any help -- this is critical to finishing project.

This won't work on files in the application directory?   It's not working for me --  The PDF is bundled into the AIR app --

  • Adobe 9, TS and Citrix Launching PDF Documents 1 min+

Running Windows Server 2008R2 and Citrix Xenapp6. When connecting via Citrix ICA protocol and
launching any app that references a PDF file it takes a long time for the document to launch.
If I login via RDP it is quick to launch the document. I have changed rights, permissions, loaded and reloaded, patches, versions 9 and 10....about anything I can think of. PDF files still open so slow it is not acceptable.
Anyone have any ideas or had this issue before??

Does it help if you give a user a new Adobe profile?

You can middle-click the link to open it in a new tab.
The "Save" feature is that way for security reasons.
