Launchd -- still buggy in 10.4.7?

Hello everybody,
using a backup shellscript which i want to be executed automatically once a week in the night, I set up a LaunchDaemon, using the StartCalendarInterval option. The past weeks it was working without any problems, but this night my script was not executed.
I found this thread describing a bug with launchd when the machine goes to sleep, which was (still) present in 10.4.5 -- can someone confirm if this is still present in 10.4.7?

and ADOBE must be ashamed to give such service
(by not updating these softwares which has still lots of unknonw! bugs and also must be ashamed to put a page for unknown bugs. and trying to make customers be their own software engineers instead of the company's hundreths of engineers)

Safari and Zoom still Buggy. Any Other Workaround?

Hi. Even after the update Safari and zoom are still buggy. I still haven't felt that transition from Snow to Lion for some reason (most of the Lion features could be simplified and not separated as different apps actually, dashboard, mission control, spotlight and launchpad could be one, same with App Store and itunes and iDVD and Quicktime, and all those could just be in iTunes- the features have become an app overload). It's easy to do a workaround using another browser but sometimes you want to use just Apple products:) Sometime I wonder if Apple will still have that enthusiasm even after Steve won't lead them anymore. That could be depressing for the employees I guess. If Lion's bugs are a sign of that lack of enthusiasm and maybe depression, I hope they get their drive back. Thank you in advance.

It's Lion resume feature which is not good in this situation. Now try closing Safari by using option+command+Q keys combination.
Open Safari again and I hope you have a normal homepage. You can then in menu Safari > Reset Safari...
Check the ones you like delete (you might have to login again after this).

Finder Still Buggy in 10.5

In using 10.4 on a Power Mac G4 the Finder was buggy. In particular after running for a while there were a number of annoying issues. The most significant was:
When downloading files to the desktop they often didn't appear. I had to go to
/Users/<acctname>/Desktop
to find them.
The solution to this was to relaunch the Finder.
I just bought a PRO MAC with 10.5.7. The lost downloaded file problem still occurs after running for some time. Solution is the same; relaunch the Finder. I can't believe that Apple hasn't fixed this.
I may have noticed some other strange Finder things but can't be sure. I've only had the computer a couple of weeks and still in the process of "organizing" directories and their views.

Cheers to all. The system came preloaded with the OS. The only things I did were to upgrade from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 via Software Update, configure my desktop the way I want it (never touched any system pref files) and installed a number of applications from DVR's or DMG's (e.g., Office, Photoshop Elements, GraphicConverter, Transmit, BBEdit, DragThing, Norton Antivirus, MoreInternet, LittleSnitch, IBackup for Mac, SuperDuper, DropDMG, ....). I assumed that the application prefs from the old machine would work on this one; but, being the paranoid type and going from a PPC to Intel I didn't move any I reset my prefs manually in the applications.
The only things I moved were working files like Word and Excel files, jpeg images, Applescripts and a few sets of web site files (I do pro bono development for some non profits and test things on my computer before uploading to the live site). Note that I did configure Apache to run cgi/Perl and php. I also set up and turned on the built in MTA since some of my web scripts need it to send mail.
As far as a browser I use Firefox 3.5b4 with its built in download manager. I did move my FF profile over (nothing but a bunch of text and sqlite files).
Testing with Safari, Opera or anything else is an issue. This failure to appear on the desktop occurs after running for a long time (days) without logging in/out; however, I will give it a try next time it happens.
I have always felt that this was some type of Finder pointer corruption that happened after days of running and recovering memory space or ???. Just a gut feeling.
The good news, for now, is that one of the other very annoying Finder issues I had on the PPC hasn't shown up.
If I find something new I'll post in this thread.

TimeMachine still buggy, Apple

Thank you, Apple, for presenting the gift of an epic fail named Mavericks to your 30th Birthday - I miss Steve Jobs!
In nearly 20 years of MacOS/OSX I never had such a struggle as since the update to Mavericks. My daily business suffers much from all the newly introduced bugs and Apple is slower than a snail in fixing them (AFP/SMB/TimeMachine/Mail and lots of minor bugs). 10.9.2 still doesn't help much.
The network protocol bugs detroyed PSD, AI, EPS and other files during copying until the 10.9.2 Update and TimeMachine still doesn't run fine in network environment.
I've got 2 QNAP NAS and a Netgear NAS all equipped with Mavericks Updates (4.0.5).
The QNAP NASes have explicid TM support for Mavericks and a special service for that.
I activated the service and the NAS share was directly there in the TM setup. Login worked well and the backup started without any problems.
(besides it's unbelievable slow compared to other OSX <-> NAS transactions)
No errors reported, successful backup according to TM.
Since I suffered from tons of trouble from Mavericks on I didn't trust Apple/OSX/TM and tried to restore some files for testing purpose.
Aliasses were nameless files without any icon or use, PSD files had no thumbnail anymore and -how is that??- no possibility to be executed.
No double click reaction, no 'open' or 'open with' right mouse option in the contect menue.
My whole story since Mavericks is way to loo long to post here, but since then I had endless TM and network troubles.
(don't even speak of the minor bugs that are still there in 10.9.2 - well, I know: iMessage is most important)
Can anyone help me out here please?

I'm just very, very dissapointed from how Apple is treating their customers/community/fans. Such epic fails were Windows jobs all the time - but even MS delivers bugfixes way faster (don't mention the SSL bug). 10.9.2 had to be out way before and it had to fix way more bugs (and not deliver iMessage candy first!). Things like these must'n happen, really, Apple.

I backed up all my Mac date to a QNAP NAS via TimeMachine on OSX 10.8.
Therefore I just mounted a share via AFP and TM did the job well (backup fully functional).
After the update to Mavericks (http://www.zdnet.com/open-letter-to-tim-cook-its-time-to-call-mavericks-beta-700 0023186/) this went on it seemed. But as I wanted to restore my data after switching to SSD, the NAS wasn't there as an option to choose (TM and migration assistent).
After some tries I copied the SparseBundle to an ext. USB HDD within the NAS, but in Mavericks TM only the backups till the last 10.8 one were available (I did daily backups and one just before switching HDD/SSD).
Within the SparseBundle all the data were there and functional.
So backup via AFP to third party NAS worked very well in my (QNAP) case, but Apple made problems.
I restored to 10.8 via TM, updated to 10.9 then (I'd better never done so!) and copied the necessary data out of the SparseBundle by hand.
Just now I tried mounting a share from the same NAS (with Mav fix) to do a new TM backup, but TM doesn't show any NAS share at all (mounted via AFP and SMB, both there and accessible in the finder).
Instead I'm getting asked for another WiFi TimeCapsule...
I think that's exactly it: Apple wants so sell their absolutely overpriced TC and therefore keeps out those NAS solutions. (your info about the netatalk protocol was helpful and I'm sure, you're right in many cases, but my constellation did work before with 10.8 and there is no reason why the NAS shares aren't shown in TM anymore under 10.9.2).
The special TM service of my big QNAP NAS shows a TM share in TM under Mav. The backup runs without any error message. But after a restore test it's shown, that the data is corrupt (the simple backup solution in 10.8 wored absolutely fine). Why there is no error message about that during backup? Maybe that error depends on what you said about netatalk, maybe it's another keep out strategy. But a simple mount worked before and is no option any more. What's the why here? I don't see one besides a marketing political.
And the buggy network protocols were/are fact, too. At least one of them that corrupted some file types during copying has been fixed in 10.9.2, so it was no third party but Apple bug (brushed under the carped).
It's just like David Gewirtz from ZDnet wrote in his open letter, no matter what the allmighty Apple marketing declares.

IPad 7.1.1 Safari still buggy after multiple resets

I would like to know when Apple will do a patch on Safari? I have reset to factory settings twice my iPad and still Safari is buggy. Getting ready to go to new browser.

I have solved the problem. You have to turn off the blue "PRIVATE" link that appears on the left side of the popup keyboard. In prior versions of iOS I think this switch was found in settings under Safari. But not this version. Also if you are using a paired Zagg keyboard. There is no way to know the switch is on. Apple documentation of this feature is lacking at least where I looked.

Export/Import Project still buggy in v2.1.3

After seeing the update notes for v2.1.3 and noticing references to project importing, I started to get excited that maybe the bugs have been ironed out. Unfortunately my longstanding bug still remains.
If anyone can think of any workarounds I'd be extremely grateful...
I have a 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM, running OS X 10.5.6 and now Aperture 2.1.3
I have a project with many images, arranged into stacks, a pick in each stack with many adjustment and a 62-page book created from these picks. There are also some smart albums and a light-table.
Now I export the project (i.e. in the Project Inspector I right-click the project and choose Export > Project) to a file on the desktop and rename the existing project in Aperture. I now import the saved .approject file and I find that all my Picks are no longer Picks and my book is therefore no longer made up of my desired images. (I've tried this many times now and ruled out the possibility of a corrupt export file).
As a result, when I select the Book I get the "Non-Pick Images" dialog with the dreaded "One or more placed items are no longer the pick of a stack." message. "Use Current Pick" ruins the book - I have to go through and work out all the picks again (and also re-pan all the images within the Photo Boxes as this data has also been lost). "Create new Version" appears to preserve my book's original look, but my project now contains a couple of hundred more images than it used to and my other albums and light-table still have incorrect images shown as the Picks.
Does anybody have any ideas of what I can do to ensure the stack-picks are preserved during the export/import process?
(By the way, the reason I'm exporting and then re-importing is because I actually want to do the export from my laptop where the project is and then the import on my main work machine where the rest of my Aperture library lives, but that fails for the same reason, so I'm doing the export+import on my laptop for now to reduce the number of variables in the problem.)

I go with the assumption that you now know how to create transport sets. After having created a transport set containing the objects you want to be exported, go to the administer tab under the main page of portal. There you will find the Export/Import portlet. Here you need to choose your transport set from the first LOV and then click EDIT to choose the "Security Option". Now you export out the stuff. This will export all the user page customizations for you.

If Multi-Stream Mode was selected in Audio Director, it will have options to adjust volume for speaker, headphone, docking, external and internal microphone.

I would like to know how does Classic or Multi-Stream mode works. As for my W510, if I choose Multi-Stream, the headphone bass will be stronger and music will be louder, but the onboard speaker will not produce any sound, not even with different sound. Is the audio director feature-set available in W510, Conexant HD20585? If not, why is this audio director feature-set is in SmartAudio in the 1st place?

Under the SmartEQ/3D Settings
First Problem
If the 31Hz is set to high/max, the sound and the bass will be softer, but if the 31Hz is set to minimum, the sound and the bass will be louder and deeper. (It seems like the range was reverse, higher is weaker, lower is stronger) Tested on Sennheiser HD202, onboard speaker would not be affected as it will not produce such a low freq, but affect headphones as the frequency range will be much wider.
Second Problem
If the 62Hz or 125Hz is set to high/max, the bass greatly increased, but the overall sound will be much softer and you have to increase the main volume to compensate it. From what I used, Hi-fi EQ or other computers EQ, increase the low frequency does not make the overall sound softer. (Affect both headphones and onboard speaker)
Third Problem
Phantom Speaker and 3D Immersion works for speaker in Custom EQ only, select Phantom Speaker or 3D Immersion mode in Off EQ or Preloaded (Jazz, ....) EQ, it will automatically be switched to Custom EQ. But a T400 allow you to use Phantom Speaker or 3D Immersion in Off or Preloaded EQ mode without automatically being switched to Custom EQ.
Fourth Problem
Click on the Enable Night Mode will create a sudden spark sound (high volume) and the sound will be slightly louder for seconds. Disable Night Mode don't affect the sound. Like this, what is the night mode for?
I am an audiophile and sometimes I help people to test out their project. Is there any newer driver releasing out soon to fix the following problems?

4th problem, partially resolved, no more spark sound, but night mode seems useless, no effect at all.
New problem happen after install 4.95.48.0.
1. The volume of the left and right speakers are imbalanced, even though the settings are balanced in Control Panel. Sometimes the left speaker will be louder than the right or the right speaker will be louder than the left.
2. The right speaker produce sparking sound when it plays short notification windows sound or when a media is played. I hold the backspace button to play Windows sound to prove that it is abnormal. It may be a speaker issue causes by speaker cable damaged by system overheating or sound chip/driver issue as it has popped sound on headphone/speaker when muted button was pressed.
3. Both speakers does not produce any sound, the sound will appear just for few second and stops after the volume was adjusted, it makes the sound unusable. Intermittent problem. (So far not encountered in 4.95.48.50)

Web.xml editor in JDeveloper still buggy

I had experience with JDeveloper 9.0.4, that the web.xml editor was buggy: specifically, when editing security constraints, it mangled up the contents, so I got to the practice to edit it only manually.
Now, after migrating to 10.1.3, I tried it again with new Servlet 2.4 format, which I am not familiar with, and it is buggy again: at least when editing dispatcher type at filter mappings: I have two filters, one is mapped to all REQUEST, FORWARD and INCLUDE, the other to none (this means it is mapped to REQUEST only). When I opened this web.xml in the editor and first clicked on the first mapping, checkboxes were ok, then I clicked to the other, and checkboxes stayed checked. It seems, that they don't uncheck, when you display another mapping which does not use them.
Now, I will again prefer to edit manually, because I just don't trust the editor :-(

Director 11.5.8.612 still buggy - Saving file makes it grow until it corrupts

After updating to patch 11.5.8.612 a new, serious bug.
When you save a dir file, even if you make NO changes to it, the file grow in size. Now, My dir file is about 700 megs (due to alot of graphics) and every time I hit the save button the file grows by almost 100 megs EVERY save. If I am doing any dynamic member management, import new graphics, or anything like that, it grows even more.
it grows and grows and grows until:
1) You have and compact - which with large files like mine can take quite a bit of time.
2) Your file get's so big that director crashs while saving, corrupting the dir and killing it forever and ever and ever.
WTF?
There are still TONS of annoying bugs in this update, but this one is new and is seriously a pain in the ***.
Anyone know how to fix this or if Adobe is planning on another release soon to fix it?

I don't know the specifics about your project, but 700 MB in one movie file sounds like a lot if it's your main movie. Is there a reason you can't have your media in an externally linked cast during development, and change it to internal (if you have to) when publishing? With the media external, compacting your file should be much faster, assuming you don't change any media in that cast.
Still, director shouldn't behave like this, even with such large files, things like this is why I'm still coding in dx2004.

Problem on fast, Turbo, Ultra Turbo. bios 1.5 still buggy.

Ok, I'm using my 875P neo(1.5 bios) as a realtime video editing system, I have realtime Video out both on Analog and DV (Firewire) with a Canopus card DV Storm 2.
First i thought my canopus card is broken because I have Flickering and nothing than digital blocks out of the DV Output which is really strange but more important i cannot use this. :(
I gladly found out that's not my Storm card but the Ultra turbo setting , i changed to fast, turbo, No Luck and a bit of system instability.
Everything will Only function properly when set to Slow mode X( voilá problem Ficksed! :] but that's a ridiculous performance in slow mode compared to ultra turbo! (benchmark shows write performance less than a 2.4Cghz processor an another brand mobo)(I'm using 3.0Cghz) 8o
I think i'm not the only one with strange problems like this, damn MSI you got some work here.
I hope MSI will Improve a lot with a new bios update if not i will choose an other brand mobo.

There is no guarantee that Ultra-Turbo setting will run 100% stably on ALL SYSTEMs where as each system consists of different sets of hardware. But there are some cases and their system specs are superbly well to support Ultra-Turbo setting. If all system can run at Ultra-Turbo, then there will be no Slow,Fast and Turbo mode anymore!
Based on what factors make you think that your Canopus card can support those faster settings?? Why don't you try to take the card off your system and go with the Ultra-Turbo or Turbo mode.

I am new to OSX and I downloaded an app known as virtualbox. It made my computer buggy and my friend told me to drag it to the trash and call it a day, so I did, but its still loading virtualbox kexts, I can see from single user mode and its still buggy.

How exactly do I uninstall, and unload the kexts?

Kext files are installed to /System/Library/Extensions so if you look in there you might be able to find some for that application in specific. I use the app called "appcleaner" to remove all my unwanted apps on my Macbook Pro.

Open the app and look for the app in particular you are trying to delete. If you can't find the app go to the finder and drag it into the appcleaner app. You may have to reinstall the virtualbox app in order to uninstall it.

For some prerecorded audio files the Transpose slider will not work reliably. I found no clear pattern, when it does and when not.
If all fails, create a loop from the audio file. Select the region in the track and use the command "File: Add region to Loop library".
Set the current key and tempo, name the loop, and save the loop.
Now add it from the loop browser to a new track and delete your old track. The search field in the Loop browser will help you to find the loop quickly.
You will be able to transpose the sample as described above, like a regular loop.
For example - a audio file turned into a loop and transposed:

10.8.5 Supplemental update is very buggy

I am on a Mac Pro 2.8 (3.1) 2008 model. 12 Gb ram and a radeon 5870. This supplemental update has been pretty horrible. I have had the following issues: messed up sleep, random wake ups, and one hard crash. I have also had the long sleep delay where the fans crank up and it takes forever to sleep...only a restart cures this, which is pretty useless. The mach file showing but that was fixed with a terminal command. Lost video chat icon on iMessage for a while but that has now mysteriously returned. The last annoying bug I have suffered with is what seems like horribly reduced audio quality out of the Apple LED 24 inch cinema display speakers. It sounds like 22kz mono both input and output.
I would rate this update a full on zero out of ten, for creating problems that never existed in 10.8.5.
Anyone else having these issues?

I'm not having those same problems, but my USB3 external drives attached via a USB3 hub still are ejected improperly when the machine goes to sleep. Also, I've had aliases on the desktop disappear for no reason. I regret updating to 10.8.5 due to all the weird problems, and the supplemental update fixed a few things but it's still buggy... Fortunately, no data corruption from this. I keep my fingers crossed.
Since desktop sales represent 15% of Apple's revenues (and dropping), it's just a matter of time before they dump desktops all together. I see no reason why Apple would care if the desktop OS is buggy.

Mail is buggy... At least mine is...

I just lately upgraded from a 7-year old G5 PPC (Leopard 10.5.8) to a new iMac with Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
My Mail program has been quite buggy in past years, doing some strange stuff. When moving to the iMac I went thru Migration. I now find my Mail program STILL buggy...
Like:
1. I type an email message, and when trying to edit it by cutting a word (or a sentence) and pasting it at the END OF A PARAGRAPH -- I FIND IT PASTED ABOVE THE PARAGRAPH, and it will consistently do so...
2. Unlike the "Classic Layout" the new Mail can list the emails on the left column., free the main window to see each email in its entirety. Nice. Problem is, Mail is not stable, and too often the list on the left, instead of showing who the emails are FROM, sorted by date, it shows MY NAME, repeating down the list (which is not very helpful, to say the least...)... I have to click the "Sort by..." header again and again to change the sorting to from-to-date to get the list right, until next time when I see my name listed down again...
My suspicion is, when performing the Migration, the Mac migrated also some "old stuff" that causes my Mail program to misbehave... And the question is WHAT FILES SHOULD I DELETE THAT WOULD MAKE MAIL WORK AS IT SHOULD, WITHOUT LOSING ANY OF MY ESSENTIAL DATA?

If you want to continue using "SpamSieve," put it back where it was without changing it. It's not causing this problem.
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):

Quit Mail.

from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return. A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
