Layering photos

I am trying to layer to photos is CS2 and I am not getting very far. It has been so long since I have done it that the information is gone. I am trying to make one photo a background with the second one, trasparent but still visible on top of it. Everytime I bring in the second photo to be layer 1, it makes it the background and the other one is gone. Please help!

  • Printing Problem with layered photos

I have sent my InDesign document to the printer for reproduction.  There seems to be a problem with the output.  A couple of the photos (layered) did not print.  On my personal printer they print fine both directly from InDesign and the PDF I created.   Any suggestions?

You probably need a global CSS file for your GoLive site.

  • Layering photos and getting text up front

I'm finding iBooks Author terribly frustrating.
I am building a photo book where there are sometime two or more photos on a page. When I use the gallery widget and create a text box on top of a photo I can never get the layers to come out right in the preview. I want the photo in the back with the text on top. But even though the text is showing in the application properly I can not get it to show up in the preview. Also, photos (gallery) pushed to the back always are on top even though I have clearly sent them to the back.
Has anyone encountered this and come up with a solution?

Is the only point of the text to indicate that you can click on the image and it will go fullscreen? If so it may not be necessary as I think clicking on photo to see it full screen is a very common setup for many books and readers will naturally do this.
If you are still worried you can always indicate that the image can be tapped with something like a distinctive border (stroke the image, etc.).

  • Layering photos...help please!

    hi,
i am trying to layer photos to create a collage effect (using a blank page not the preset collages). i know it can be done as I have done it before, but i just cant remember how to set the photos as layers! When im clicking on 'new layer' it is not giving me the option to select photos???
    Please help!
P.S im not very computery so please explain using the easiest instructions you can!
    Thanks

it then opened it on a separate layer and i cant work out how to layer this onto the original background. just keeps opening them on separate ones with checked backgrounds!
That's how layers works!  The checkered backgrounds indicate transparency which is normal and which is what you want since you will probably be resizing the individual pictures. You want separate layers so that you can arrange the pictures in the collage.  When you print the result all the pictures will appear placed on the background layer, as if you had flattened all the layers into one.

  • Use PS 5 can't use on 3 newer pcs. What's equilivant with same layers & photo manipulations as 5.

I have photoshop 5. I took classes at a local collage over 10 years ago on how to use it, I learned so much. My classmates had a more generic version.  I had the more expensive, high end version compared to the class. I really don't want to lose the ability's I had in 5. The instructor was able to show me some great functions in the 5-pro version, which I use, but I don't remember which functions those were.  I just can't afford the expensive pro version and Window stopped supporting my PC long ago and I've had to save things to floppy's because that PC didn't have a CD/DVD slot.  I want to use faster PC, my duct tape and rubber bands just are not holding my unit together anymore. I moved away from great teacher and the course not offered near me now. I could upgrade to just XP if needed and purchase a used version but I'm concerned about purchasing something used. Could someone spell-out for a low tech lady ...what I could purchase that will have the 5-pro functions and what I would lose if I discontinue it for your recomdation?

If you are looking for a newer computer, I would stay away from Windows XP as Microsoft just abandoned that version. Find windows 7 if you can.
Frankly from what you wrote, any newer computer would run rings around the old system including majority of the laptops. Almost all computers now come with a DVD drive, rarely CD but it is possible. External DVD drives can be had for under $100 easy. All newer computer have usb ports so external drives are easy to find and are relatively cheap.
If you can afford $10 a month subscribing to the photography program will get you the latest version of photoshop and lightroom.
Your alternative (speaking perpetual licensing) would be photoshop elements. You would be lacking some of the features, but would work for now for all the basics.
A main difference for you anyway would be elements can be used on your system until you run into the same situation you are in now.
Whereas the subscription is done 30 days after last payment. But it can be reactivated at a later date and it is always the latest version. Therefore with the subscription as long as you pay it will never be obsolete.

  • Photomerge not including all photos - confused!

    Hi,
I am using Photoshop CS5 12.0.3 to stitch together some panoramic photos using Photomerge but am encountering the following problem and would appreciate any advice.
I have 3 photos of a panoramic scene taken by the same camera with the same lens, focal length, ISO, shutter speed and aperture.  The overlap between photo 1 and 2 is at least a third.  The overlap between photo 2 and 3 is more like 50%.  When I run photomerge (using the auto setting) the output image appears to only have photos 2 and 3 visible and merged nicely together.  When I have a look at the layers photo 1 seems to be present but the output image doesn't include it.  As an experiment I tried merging just photos 1 and 2 but that resulted in an image that just looked like photo 2.
This is confusing me - I have merged various other panoramic scenes with 2 to 5 photos taken on the same day with the same camera and set up with no problem at all so I think that rules out a lot of problems.  I've tried this particular panorama from within Lightroom (edit in > merge to panorama...) and in Photoshop independently, both after working on other images and fresh after a reboot.
Can any of you shed some light on this please?  It is driving me crazy.  I am more than happy to provide the images if that helps (each is a 25MB Canon RAW file).
I hope you can help.  Thanks in advance!

Have you tried other settings besides auto?
Also there is an optional plugin for cs5 that allows for manual alignment
of the photos during photomerge called photomerge ui, which places
an entry at the bottom of the photomerge dialog called interactive layout.

more info (this is for elements since the cs5 help doesn't appear to have
    anything on the interactive layout)

  • Floating inactive photos behind photoshop window in CS6 for Mac

My inactive photos go behind the active CS6 Photoshop window on my Mac.  This forces me to minimize Photoshop and then get the inactive photos and drag them back into Photoshop. This makes it awkward for layering photos.  Any suggestions how to correct this?

  • Why can't I highlight a layer in a photo by touching it?

On a many layered photo, I used to be able to highlight a layer by touching it, so I could edit the layer. Now I can't highlight the layer unless I scroll down on the layers tool on the side bar. This is hard to do with some of my larger projects. Any reason this just started? I never had a problem before.

The way I do it is by clicking on the side panel on the layer I want to select.  See this picture:
If you don't see this panel in Expert mode than go to:
Window >> Layers  (or just press F11 on a windows system).
You can select the layer by clicking on it but if the size of the layer is too big to cover the entire image then clearly you can't.
    Hope this helps.

  • Layered animation in dps

    Hello.
I asked my team to develop a short cover animation similar to red bulletin dps.  basically to animate layered photos and embed short videos and put background music.  whats the best program to use? can edge animate do all this stuff or do i need both premiere pro and edge animate?  Thank you

    Hi Alistair,
That is allready the case I'm afraid.

  • Problems syncing animated gif files on website

I am running Photoshop Elements 8 and have createdd a series of 7 animated gif files.  Within each of the 7 files consist of 4 layers(photos) with 5 second intervals in between each layer/photo.  Each of the 7 animated gif files have been uploaded to the home page of my website, all 7 animated gif files are set to 5 second intervals and also loop.  The problem occurs when either reloading or returning back to the home page, which causes the animated gif files to go out of sync, making it appear that each one of the 7 files are starting it's sequence at a different time.  My question is, how can I fix this issue?  I want all 7 animated gifs to start at exactly the same time, any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to our community
I'm not 100% sure on this but I believe you will need to convert the GIF to a SWF and insert it that way in order to preserve the animation.

  • Re-installation of PS CC 64 bit 2014: filters greyed out???

My PC (Win 7) computer had to be reformatted. I am reinstalling software. I downloaded and reinstalled Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 (64bit). When I open it and open an image, most dropdown items under menu items are greyed out. This includes almost all filters (Blur, Noise, etc. plus my NIK and Topaz filters--installed under Plugins folder). How do I fix that?

Da...Simple answer...PS CC opened my layered photo, but didn't automatically select a layer. When I selected a layer, the menu items became active. Now I just have to figure out why my NIK filters freeze up PS CC whenever I click on them! That's probably a simple thing, like a reinstallation registration number, which I can't find!

  • Place images to a specific spot in a template

I am trying to create an action that will drop images into a specific spot in another document and save it with a certain file name. After the first image is dropped in and saved, I want my next image to do the same and so on. I have all my images cropped to the correct ratio and being pulled from a folder on my desktop. I have my template open in Photoshop where I want my images from that folder to be dropped into. Is this possible?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!
    Melissa

    Melissa
What you want to do can be done but it is complex and actions have some limitations and can not use logic without using a script or two. File saving  can be tricky for an action will always save the same file name or use the current document name saved either overwriting the file or saving it to some other particular folder. Action that populate a template can be created but it will always populate the same number of images because an action can not use logic to find out how many spots there are to populate. There are different ways to drop an image into the active document you can paste into an area or just past in the image in as a new layer.  You can also Place images in as smart objects. Each method has some advantages and disadvantages. Layers can also be aligned with selections and layers can be transformed in size.  Your best off creating rule for creating a template and have a plan as to how your going to populate these templates that follow your rules. To protect the template from alteration you may want to dupe the template close the original and work on the duped version. When you dupe the template you can give the dupe a name if you do not name it the new document will have the same name with copy appended.
Scripting is more powerful then Action but they are programs that are written in a scripting language. Photoshop supports three languages. VBS, Applescript and Javascript. Only Javascript is supported on both the MAC and PC platforms.  Even using Javascript you may need to code the script to work on both platforms for I'm sure there are some differences in the OS and file system the may need special handling to work on both platform.  From you description of you work-flow it is hard to tell exactly what you are doing.   If you trying simple create a photo Collage.  You may want to have a look at my free Package for Photoshop called "Photo Collage Toolkit" . I have been told this package works on a MAC but I created it and tested it on widows and got it To work with CS2, CS3, CS4 and CS5.
Photo Collage Toolkit UPDATED Sept 24, 2011 added a script to replace a Populated Layered Collage Smart Object Image with an other image with resizing.
Photoshop scripting is powerful and I believe this package demonstrates this.
The package includes four simple rules to follow when making Photo Collage Template PSD files so they will be compatible with my Photoshop scripts.
There are eight scripts in this package they provide the following functions:
TestCollageTemplate.jsx - Used to test a Photo Collage Template while you are making it with Photoshop.
CollageTemplateBuilder.jsx - Can build Templates compatible with this toolkit's scripts.
LayerToAlphaChan.jsx - Used to convert a Prototype Image Layer stack into a template document.
InteractivePopulateCollage.jsx - Used to interactively populate Any Photo Collage template. Offers most user control inserting pictures and text.
ReplaceCollageImage.jsx - use to replace a populated collage image Smart Object layer with an other image correctly resized and positioned.
PopulateCollageTemplate.jsx - Used to Automatically populate a Photo Collage template and leave the populated copy open in Photoshop.
BatchOneImageCollage.jsx - Used to Automatically Batch Populate Collage templates that only have one image inserted. The Collage or Image may be stamped with text.
BatchMultiImageCollage.jsx - Used to Automatically Batch Populate Any Photo Collage template with images in a source image folder. Easier to use than the interactive script. Saved collages can be tweaked.
Note: Rags Gardner www.rags-int-inc.com Photoshop Collage Template Builder script Copyright (c) 2006 builds layered Photo Collage Template psd files. Rags's has given me permission to include a modified version of his script in my package. The modification converts Rags's layered image template document into a flattened template compatible with Photoshop "Photo Collage Toolkit" package. There is also an option that will instead create a layered image stack like Rags's templates are these are also produced if you attempt to create a template with more then 53 images.
Photoshop only supports up to 53 Alpha channels therefore with its design the Photo Collage Toolkit can only support collages with 1 to 53 images. I do not feel this is a big limitation for if you put 53 3:2 aspect ratio images on a large 16" x 20" paper they would need to be less then 1.9" x 2.86" in size if you wanted a frame around each and less then .95" x 1.43" on a 8" x 10" year book page size.
While the maximum number of images in a collage is 53 you can actually create larger collages by populating a large number of images into several collages and then populate yet an other collage template with these populated collages. Each will be placed into the collage of collages as a single smart object layer. You may want to save the populates PSD file as Jpeg files first to cut down on the overhead of having large PSD file smart object layers in the collage of collages.

  • Why can't i access some of the tabs in my PSE13?

I am new to PSE so I went out and bought the "pse13 for dummies" book and was going through trying stuff from in there. I wanted to try a layered photo and was trying what they said to do but I can't do anything because not all of my tabs in PSE are "active", I even tried starting with a blank file. Tabs like layer, windows, etc I can click on but I can't select anything from their drop down box. I have been messing with PSE since Christmas night and have contacted PSE help/support every night and just keep going in circles. I talked to someone last night who said it sounded like I needed someone from the "photography department" Does anyone know how to fix this so I cant finally start using this program?

    In Editor, Expert tab:
Go to Edit>Preferences>General, and check "Allow Floating Documents in Full Edit Mode"
Open a picture file, then on the arrange icon, click on "Float All In Windows".
Do the instructions work for you now?

  • Newbie: Change in Approach PEFs and DNGs?

Waiting on my new MacBook and Aperture 2, but am reading furiously. Am laying out plans for a (hopefully) orderly transition from PC (using ACDSee Pro for workflow and file cataloging) to Mac and Aperture. Would appreciate comments on my planned approach, but first some background.
Here's what I do now: I shoot in RAW (PEF), then convert to DNG using Adobe's converter. I do nothing with PEFs, but do save them. I do editing from DNGs and convert to JPGs when I want to share.
PC file structure: I put photos files in top level folders (PEFs, DNGs, JPGs). Within these file type folders I have yearly and then monthly folders. This to facilitate DVD archiving (only have to burn latest photo folders, not subject oriented folders with mixed dates). I find images I want using categories and keywords in ACDSee. Works well for me.
By the way, I'm not taking tons of photos. I have about 30GB of files and that includes the same photos in PEF and DNG, then JPGs of the ones I've wanted to share. My MacBook will have a 500GB drive, so I can keep all my photos (probably for quite some time) resident on my HDD (current HDD contains a total of ~150GB including OS).
As I'm learning about Aperture, it seems I have a lot of redundancy I don't need. So here's what I'm thinking.
1-Planned backup regimen: a) use Time Machine to do routine backups of my HDD to attached external HDD; b) use online backup service to routinely backup all data online; c) given a) and b), I think I'll stop with the DVD archves except for PEF storage. Once I get a DVD's worth of PEFs in a folder will burn and delete from HDD (will not manage PEFs in Aperture).
2- Am undecided on whether or not to manage masters within Aperture or as referenced masters. What are Pros/Cons of referenced masters given I have plenty of HDD space to play with (i.e., all referenced files will be resident on drive)?
3- Aperture structure will be: years as folders, months as projects, albums within months.
4- Question: how to handle/reduce all the redundancy in my old system as I import? I print from my DNGs as ACDSee embedded my edits in them. Most JPGs are exact copies of adjusted DNGs, but some are quite derivative (e.g., processed IRs and some layered photos). I'm thinking I should ONLY import as masters DNGs and those JPGs that are highly processed derivatives of the DNGs and discard the JPGs that are simple copies. It would be easy enough to export those should I need them again.
Well that went longer than I'd planned. Thanks for bearing with me and I'll appreciate any experienced advice/comments anyone is willing to give.
    Thanks
