LED TV vs. LED Monitor

I currently have a MacBook Pro and I'm looking into setting up a docking station for it so I can use it as a desktop. However I don't intend on paying $999 for the Apple thunderbolt display, so thats not an option. My question is I have a 26" LED 1080p tv, and when I hook up my mac with HDMI through thunderbolt its great for movies, but thats about it. I've fooled around with the TV settings and computer settings and can't really get a good quality from using other apps/browsing internet. I'm looking at getting a monitor to hook it up as a desktop however I don't want to spend $200 if there isn't a difference between an LED monitor and an LED TV. The monitor is a view sonic 24" LED and has HDMI connection.
So would the display on the monitor be better than on the TV? Not sure what the real difference is and I don't want to waste money on a monitor if its the same thing. Please help out, some input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes. IMO, generally TV's don't make good computer monitors. Remember, at the most they only get 1080 vertical and are really not intened for viewing just a few feet away as monitors are.
The pixel density of monitors is closer together so you won't get as much a "screen door" effect you would see looking at a TV close up.
Note, you may get differing opinions on this but the above is my opinion. Here's a google search of "tv vs. computer monitor" to get other opinions on this topic.

Can I use a led tv as a monitor for a macbook pro?

I mostly stream Netflix videos on my laptop and would like to watch them on a bigger screen without sacrificing the friendly interface of my MacBoob Pro. Check out Apple TV. It is a wireles interface to your TV that comes with much more capbility than just attaching it as a monitor. It can be the best $99 investment you can make for entertainment on your TV. It supports Netflix directly so you do not need your Mac in the loop to watch such movies. It simply requires a standard HDMI cable, not supplied with the Apple TV unit. Through it, with Mavericks, you can use the TV as a standard OS X monitor or for entertainment. Also check out the Beemer software to stream videos to it from your Mac.

When I purchased it, the salesman told me that other "brands" of monitors were better due to dust build up along the edges of the monitor might block something causing the screen to jump and waver. When I got home I compared the lenovo to the others brands and do not see any difference in the specifications. So I investigated further and found various methods of touch screen sensing. Can a lenovo staff member tell me which is used in this monitor. From what I gather there is Resistive film, Capacitive, SAW, Infrared optical imaging, and Electromagnetic induction. Which one?

WiSM Status LED 1 & Status LED 2 showing off. Is it normal?

I have a Cisco AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9 when I boot one accesspoint it gives Ethernet LED = Off; Radio LED = RED ; Status LED = RED and only next listing in the screen:

hi everybody, I have a macbook and i'd like to use one of my tvs as a monitor, I have a Samsung led tv and a Philips 3d led tv but with the "mini display port to hdmi adapter" I'm not able to use my tv as a monitor for my macboo, is it possible or I cannot use my tv as a monitor?

It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

70" Sharp LED-LCD TV as monitor for Mac Mini?

I just purchased a 70" Sharp LED-LCD TV---considering buying a Mac Mini to watch TV online and ditching my DirecTV. TV resolution is 1920 x 1080. Will I be able to get a High Definition picture as clear as HD DirecTV this way?

what are you planning on watching on the MM? if you're thinking of getting rid of DirecTV and getting all of your programming from Hulu or something like that, those sites don't stream in 1080p, so no. If you're downloading BluRay rips and watching those, then yes, it'll display in 1080p. I believe it can actually handle resolutions higher than 1080, but since no TVs support those resolutions (yet), you'll be limited to 1080.

K7T Turbo Limited Edition d-led one green led 3 red leds is it my mobo?? that died

Hi people my girlfriend whas just printing somthing when the screen went black and te noise came out of my system...
I wasn't there but when i came home i opened my system and turned it one ... the D-leds went on (1 green 2,3,4 red and some noise came from my speaker (lika a weak alarm)
Swiched my video card, memory and my harddisks but no improvements. I don't know what the D-leds mean

I think it is best to bring this machine to a supplyer, becouse i don't have a power supply unit and i can't get that freaking heatsink of the damn cpu ( ) that #$#@#@ piece of @##@@# wont get lose without risking me sticking a screwdriver trough my mobo.....

or you have a weak Power Supply Unit.

Led flash problem - Led flash don't work

Hi, i'm an italian guy. I've a problem at the flash of my iphone 4. When I register the movie with flash on, The LED flash does not fire. I've send twice my iphone 4 to Apple in Holland, but they don't see the problem. How can i solve this problem?

What's the maximum voltage for each LED on the LED panelette (SC-2345)?

I need to know whether or not, I can hook up the LED's of the LED panelette on a 15VDC circuit or not.

Those LEDs are used with 5VDC. The best way to go about that is to use a external Voltage divisor to create the 5VDC to be connected to the LEDs.

D400 - system status LED blinking, network LED blinking

Hi - Just recently started experiencing this problem with my D400.
The system status LED is blinking, which according to the user guide means that WHS is either booting or shutting down. The Network LED shows activity.
Problem is that I can't get on the D400 via remote desktop.
Frustrating. Talked with support already, said only option is to send in to depot or find a local resource to troubleshoot or fix. Problem is that we have our music/photos on this thing.
Support also said that if we factory reset data on all drives will be erased.
Looking for help wherever I can get it. Thanks!

Hi scottdcm, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
To get your music/photos off the system before returning it for service, connect the hard drive(s) to another computer with a SATA connection. An external USB/SATA connector or drive enclosure will also do the job.
You can also remove any drives you have added before shipping it for service.

HDD LED before Power LED

My Neo 2 PS motherboard seems to work a little humorously... When I press the power on button, the red light would always appear first. After a few seconds, the green light will come on. Not sure why this is happening... The computer starts up a much later. Please advice...

Samsung LED Monitor TA950 not working with Macbook pro

I bought a Samsung TA950 Full HD LED 3D 27 inch monitor and trying to connect my MBP (early-mid 2009, does not support, MiniPort Audio). Connecting using MDP-DVI to HDMI to connect and MBP detects the monitor, I can see and change Display preferences. The monitor only flashes "no signal" when I disconnect the cables so something is happening...every so often my macbook pro display "flashes" momentarily as if it is recognizing a connection but a)nothing shows up in the display prefs after clicking "detect display" and b) nothing shows up on the external monitor. The monitor did worked and showed the MBP screen when I disconnect the cable, set the MBP display resolution to 1152 by 720, than connect the Miniport cable, the monitors flickers and shows the screen, and after a minute or 2, it goes black and goes in the loop of flickering and trying to detect the monitor

Hi, I got the same monitor the other day and there should be no problem getting it to work.
Use the DP to mini-DP cable supplied with the monitor.
Make sure this cable is plugged into the correct input DP port in the back of the monitor (not the DP port for daisychaining).
Make sure the DP input is selected in the inputs menu on screen.
Plug mini-DP end of the cable into Mac
Should work ...
