Legacy version of Numbers for Mountain Lion
Hi guys,
I'm having trouble figuring this one out, so I hope somebody can give some advice.
I'm only looking to access a few files created with Numbers several years ago. I haven't used Numbers since then, switched laptops in the meantime, etc. I thought I could simply buy it off the App Store now, but I can only access the newest version which is not compatible with Mountain Lion and it won't point me to a suitable version (as it does with some other apps). I can't find a single legal source of Numbers that is compatible with my version of OS.
Does anyone know how I could solve this and acquire Numbers for Mountain Lion?
I would like to avoid updating OS X.
Cheers
Julia
Hi Julia,
As no-one else has replied, here is a suggestion. With your favourite Web Search Engine, do a search for iWork '09 eBay. You may be able to purchase a DVD version of iWork '09. After you install, go to App Store and check for updates (not for the latest operating system, but for any minor updates to Numbers '09 to bring it into line with your current OS X). Do this before you try to launch Numbers '09.
Regards,
Ian.

Need to Install Safari 6.0.2 on a white Intel core duo iMac. Had to throw out 6.0.3 because of conflict with required software. Downloaded wrong version that was for Mountain lion (I am running 10.7.5). It installs but won't open, says it is for Mountian Lion.
Of course I can't throw it away since I get a message it's part of the sytem. I can show package contents and throw those away, but evidently not a good idea!!Need to Install Safari 6.0.2 on a white Intel core duo iMac. I cannot get pages from iworks to share on Mountain Lion. Do I need a new version of pages for Mountain Lion instead of iworks?
You need Pages 09 (Version 4) to take advantage of Mountain Lion's iCloud features. You don't say what version you have.

I just downloaded the newest update for mountain lion. After downloading any restarting for installation, I got a message stating that the update cannot be installed due to an error. Yet when I check I have version 10..8.3 and safari version 6.0.3, which the update was for. Does this mean that the update is iinstalled and the message was incorrect?

Good timing! Oh well, at least you shouldn't have to update again for a while. It will be nice kickstarting your Mac with the very latest System Update knowing any hiccups from 10.8.2 would have been ironed out if they were going to affect your workflow at all.

updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?
It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.
Here's a thread that helped me with iPhoto:

How do I download Safari for Mountain Lion?
How do I download Safari for Mountain Lion? It's not in the App Store, it is nowhere on the Apple website . . . OK, so I guess it is supposed to be part of Mountain Lion, but I am running Mountain Lion and whatever version of Safari I ended up with would not even run at all . . . so I trashed it (or at least what part of it I was allowed to trash) and though reinstalling it would be a good idea . . . but I can't find one to reinstall. The latest version I can find is for Leopard, and of course that won't run.
Not to mention that since getting Mt Lion, iPhoto won't run . . . it produces an error message saying I need to check with the developer to make sure it runs with this version of OS X! So I wonder who the developer of iPhoto is, who produces software that is incompatible with Mt Lion???
And even in submitting this there is no option to tag it for any OS later than 10.7.4!!Since Safari is crashing, post a crash report... reinstalling the OS X rarely helps a browser crash issue.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with bootcamp 3.3 on my Imac 2011. I need to updgrade to mountain lion. If I first upgrade to mountain lion, how do I go about upgrading from bootcamp 3.3 to latest bootcamp for mountain lion?
I have seen a lot of discussions upgrading from Boot Camp 4 to 5 but no answers upgrading from boot camp 3.3 to 5. My worry is that if I upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion, that my bootcamp partition will no longer be able to boot up. There seem to be a lot of threads suggesting problems that are possible. Has anyone gone through this upgrade with success? Before doing any installation restart OSX from your 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD and use Disk Utility to Both Repair The Disk and Repair the Permissions of your Macintosh HD.
Next remove your Snow Leopard DVD and restart your iMac into OSX.
Update to the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard by clicking the Apple icon and choose Software Update to install Snow Leopard v10.6.8, the latest version.
Use Time Machine to make a Full Backup of your Macintosh HD.
Shut down and restart into Windows by holding the Option key at the chime and selecting Windows.
Now use Windows Backup to make a Full Image Backup of your Windows Installation to a removable drive.
Shut Down and Boot back into OSX.
Open the Mac App Store from your Dock to buy and download Mountain Lion. Then follow the onscreen instructions to install it.
Upgrading your OSX to 10.8 should not effect the Windows Partition at all since you are only upgrading the Mac side. You should not have to run the Boot Camp Assitant 5 Utility in OSX at all.
Your Boot Camp 3.3 Windows Support Drivers et. al only effect your Windows installation and should continue to run fine after upgrading.
Which version of Windows do you already have installed on the existing Boot Camp Partition?
Is it 32 bit or 64 bit? -

At some time you appear to have moved or renamed an older version of Safari to your desktop. Make sure you launch the Safari 6 that came with Mountain Lion which is in the Applications folder, and trash that older version.
If you somehow deleted Safari 6 or overwrote it with an older copy, you'll either need to reinstall Mountain Lion, copy Safari 6 from another system running Mountain Lion, or extract Safari 6 from the Mountain Lion installer using Pacifist from Charlessoft. Safari 6 for Mountain Lion is not available as a separate download from Apple, to the best of my knowledge.

Preparing for Mountain Lion - what folders and files should be saved?
Hi gang,
Although some of you make think this is obvious, it really is not. In preparation for Mountain Lion, I curious what folders and files (other than the obvious) should I move off to another drive? I'm going to do a clean install this time around. I'll probably do an upgrade first to understand any gotcha's when I upgrade my wife's MBP later, then do a clean install.
I'm going to move the documents, my Aperture and iPhoto libraries, but I'm unsure about the iTunes folder and my movies and such. Most of my software has come from the App Store, so I don't need to worry aobut those, and the few other programs I have the software for (iWork, iLife, but we'll probably need new versions of those.
I just preparing a list to make sure that I get everthing.
Thanks, MarkWhen doing a clean install OS upgrade I like to swap out the time machine drive, storing/retiring the old time machine as a backup of the old system while keeping it's Time Machine history.
So personally what I do is:
#1 clone my boot drive to an external (at this point I have two backups Time Machine + a clone)
#2 wipe the boot drive and install new OS on it (at this point I still have two copies of my data TM + clone)
#3 verifiy the old time machine is accessible from the new boot drive (sometimes due to ownership/permissions/filevault this is a problem so check even if migrating from clone)
#4 selectively migrate files from clone or TM to new install
#5 Start a new time machine of the new OS drive (sometimes I'll wipe the clone at this point and use it, prefering to keep the old TM as a archived backup)
One note, I've burned myself at least once forgetting that I'd excluded some parts of my old drive from Time Machine drive (usually Podcasts, Movies), so pay attention to that before relying on it. -
Internet explorer for mountain lion
Trying to get on healthcare.gov site. People there said my problem was browser and that I need Internet Explorer (which I don't believe) Is IE available for Mountain Lion?
Internet Explorer was available for the first OS X versions, but it was discontinued.
What you can try is to get to the site in Internet Explorer mode. To do it, open Safari, go to Safari menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Advanced, and mark "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Then, close your Preferences window, go to Develop menu (on the menu bar) > User Agent, and choose one of all the Internet Explorer options -
Purchasing iphoto v9.4.3 for mountain lion
Hi-
I have given up trying to upgrade my iphoto 9.3 to 9.4.3 for mountain lion. I have tried (a) Apple-Software Updates... and (b) going directly to http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1650. Neither works, The first one doesnt list the update as an option and the second approach directs me to the app store for my update after i click on the downloaded 9.4.3pkg file. In the app store there are no compatible updates. Frustrating!
So, how can i do a fresh install of iPhoto 9.4.3? I am happy to pay for it again, but where do i find it for purchase?
Thanks. It is no longer available. The udate you downloaded is most likely an update to the former DVD based app and as you found out, diesn't update the Mac App Store (MAS) version because they aren't exactly the same app. You will not be able to update your older version.
If your Mac can run Mt Lion, then it can run Mavericks. Why not upgrade your OS and then you can upgrade to the Mavericks versions available in the MAS. -
How do I create 2 Recovery partitions: one for Lion and one for Mountain Lion?
Well that is basically the question:
How do I create 2 recovery partitions: one for Lion and one for Mountain Lion?
Reason is that I would like to keep the option to return to Lion, or even better, have a seperate partition for eacht?can I access my programs from the other partition, so I can save space ...
No, as far as I know, each one is completely separate - especially if you're dealing with two different versions of OS's.
is it possible to safely make an extra partion on a running drive (it is my main computer ...) The disk is large enough ...
how large would this have to be
I've personally never done it on a running drive - have read it's possible, but don't want to suggest it since I've never done it and wouldn't be sure about the steps. This is how I got to two partitions on my iMac:
Originally, I had just one partition with Snow Leopard. I used CCC to clone that to an external drive. Booted into that drive and used DU to partition and erase the internal. I then cloned the new clone back. Also cloned the same thing to the other partition which I then upgraded to Lion. So I had two OS's - SL and Lion. I've now decided to clone my SL to an external drive for occasional use and installed ML on that partition - so now I have Lion and ML.
There are two ways to get a "fresh" install: either download the OS again and install it on a partition of your choice or, as I've done as well, copy the installer to a safe place so you don't need to download it again. It does include whatever apps/software is included in the OS. I've designated two smaller partitions on externals as my "fresh" installs of both Lion and ML for emergency or reinstall purposes (this is my way of dealing with not having install DVDs) - I took the time to install it there and then slowly add fresh installs of my important apps (either via download or install CD) - don't bother with the little/less used stuff, a current copy of that can be downloaded if and when I need it. I don't really update those two - that can also be done if/when I need it since that'll always change.
So, yesterday, I decided I wanted to start fresh with ML - booted into my fresh install of Lion (on external), wiped the SL partition on my internal and installed Lion. Decided to download a fresh copy of the ML installer and installed that. Then ran Software Update. After that, repaired permissions. Then I methodically opened every third party app and checked for updates - installed those where necessary. After all that, I simply copied (drag 'n drop) my entire Documents folder (which contains all my important data,, photos, etc) over from another backup.
This took a while, but mostly because of the long download times; the installs weren't all that bad. I should be running a really clean system now, especially since nothing was ported over except my Documents folder. -
Is there a Pages 09 only update for Mountain Lion?
I have downloaded the iWork 9.2 update for Mountain Lion but can't use it as I have Pages 09 but Numbers and Keynote 08 and the update says the 08's are not compatible. I bought Pages 09 from the App store as a stand-alone, so surely I should be able to upgrade it on its own without Numbers and Keynote?
