Leica lenses EXIF Information in Aperture 3

Does anyone know how to get Aperture 3 to record EXIF information for Leica lenses that are used with the M9 and S2? If you import images into any Adobe product like Lightroom, then EXPORT the images to a folder on your desktop, then import into Aperture, the information on the lens, exposure, etc.. appears, but not if you are just directly importing into Aperture. This is really annoying...... THANKS for any suggestions.

  • Aperture and EXIF information with EOS 300D RAW (.CRW) files

When I look at the EXIF metadata in Aperture, it shows some things completely wrong:
Shutter speeds over 1 second are shown as 1.0 seconds
The Serial number of the camera is totally wrong
    There is no Exposure compensation
the Color Space is wrong (I use sRGB wich Aperture reports as Adobe RGB)
There are 8 pixels missing (see another thread)
There is no information about flash usage
Does anyone else have similar problems?

  • Missing EXIF information on Export

Hi Everyone,  have just purchased the Canon CP800 Photo Printer for my Mac,   seems as if I can't print any photo from my Aperture 3 library (All the pictures I own are in A3)   The problem,  and its been around for a while .. according to the various communities on the net, is missing EXIF information in the exported JPEG's
Is there a solution to this ?  or is this a problem for Canon as this printer joes does not see Jpeg's with missing EXIF.
    Thanks everyone.
    Woodynet.

Hi Frank,  yes a couple of surprises here,  the First being the Canon Photo Printer CP800 requires some sort of EXIF data on the Pictures in order for it to display on the printerss LCD and therefore enable you to print,  I have found many discussions around this topic,  it relies on certain EXIF data,  likely because you can perform basic enhancements before printing so I guess the printer needs to know something about the image,   by removing the SD Card out of the camera and straight into the printer I can print a picture,   the same picture transfered from Aperture 3 (Latest patches)  to the SD card (Same folder structure) the picture does not appear,  this Picture has had NO adjustments applied to it via Aperture,
The Problem clearly is with Aperture,  it does not export EXIF data (well some anyway),  seems a few people have this problem with A3 so just wondering when Apple might be planning to fix the problem since all my photo's are now in A3,   very frustrating and the experience was very un apple like.   any suggestions would be handy,  as I plan to return the printer in the next couple of days.   will call canon support soon.
    Cheers

  • This is how to add extra Exif data to Aperture :-)

    Folks
Often I need additional Exif data in Aperture - which is not available in the standard install.
For example - exactly which lens did I use - not just a focal lenght - which might be any one of various lenses I have.
Or - which focus point was used?
    The list is endless...

A neat combination of an AppleScript and ExifTool
    Go for it
    Brian

    Hi,
I'm the "author", if you can call it that, since most of the script is, as someone earlier mentioned, Brett Gross' work. I was the one that glued exiftool to it and got it working with my Aperture setup. I am looking at the various problems that have popped up on dpreview and with personal correspondence and trying to find solutions.
But it isn't easy. As Charles said, the Aperture dictionary isn't helpful in that regard. And with the flexibility that Aperture provides in naming is the curse here. And all the variables with versions, external edits, etc. It gets very complicated. But if you look at the thread on dpreview, someone has possibly found a way to query the SQL database to make it all work smoothly.
It is very easy to do this stuff at import. I am just putting the finishing touches on an Automator action to import the files and add the EXIF data (it will even query GeoNames and add the city, state & country IPTC data if there is GPS data present in the file).

  • EXIF information disappeared! Any ideas?

Almost all of the EXIF information disappeared from some (not all) of my 5 star images.  Only the camera, lens and exposure information vanished - it was all there at one time.  The fields now appear blank.
All of the images that this happened to have a weird profile name: "kCGColorSpaceGenericHDR".  I have no idea what this is from.
At the top of the inspector panel, it says "Unknown Canera" and "Unknown Lens".  Yet, it recogizes that the image was shot in RAW and shows the focus points
All non-5-star images have all the EXIF data remaining.I've rebuilt the library to no avail.  Any ideas?
The only change I've made recently is to add the complete NIK collection.  It was shortly after this that the problem appeared, but may be completely unrelated.
    Any ideas?

    Hallo Charlie,
Try to rename your Master Image Files using "Metadata -> Batch Change".
If your version names are still o.k., you can copy the version names to the master image files by setting the "Apply to Master Files" option.
This renaming to "Spoonbill" might have happend during a batch change in the similar way, perhaps with a wrong filename preset.
OT: What does a"Roseate Spoonbill" look like? Ours all are white ...

  • IPhoto unable to export EXIF information correctly for photos with color filters

I have imported photos from my phone to iPhoto and noticed that some of the photos do not have EXIF information when exporting to other places or synced back to iPhone. When I am trying to view the photo in iPhoto, the date is correctly shown.
The date shown in the iPhone photo moment tab is the import date rather than the original date when the photos were taken.
When I am trying toview the photo in iPhoto, the date is correctly shown.
(for example: the photo was taken in Dec 1, 2012, imported to iPhoto in Nov 1, 2014, and synced back to iPhone.
the date shown in iPhone is Nov 1, 2014, the date shown in iPhoto is Dec 1, 2012.)
After further looking into the details of the photo, i have noticed that theses photos are taken with color filters in iPhone or bursting photos or panoramas.
(e.g a mono or fade filter choosed when taking photo in iPhone camera).
When choose " reveal in finder" option in iPhoto for these photos, there are two options : view original or modified.
the original files contain EXIF information and the modified files do not.
the original files show photo without color filter
the modified files shows photo with color filter, the modified photos are what the photos were contained in iPhone originally.
When exported syncing these photos, the modified files was exported/synced, however, no EXIF information was exported. photos only contains the creation date.
These resulted in a mess in the photo collection in my phone. photos were displayed in wrong order.
When i export these photo to another location for back up purposes, i choose "include all location information, name, keyword", only the modified photos were exported without any EXIF information.
The only way I found is reveal these photos in finder.
iPhoto seems unable to export/sync photos that are taken with color filters/ panorama photos/ bursting photos.
is there any way to solve this problem? Thank you!

i have just taken a photo with effects and imported to iPhoto, The EXIF can be exported. The problem is syncing.
I think this problem only happen to photo taken before iOS 8.
EXIF of photo with effects unable be synced back to iPhone.
Apple acknowledged that the new Photos.app in iOS 8 is handling edits differently, see:
iPhoto and Aperture don't have edits to photos you import from iOS 8 devices
In iOS 8 edited versions are stored in a different way from previously. And it looks like there is now a bug, that prevents the older edited versions from being handled correctly.
Send a bug report to Apple. You could use the feedback form, if you do not have a developer account: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

  • EXIF information out of sync

I have several TIFF files (film scans) stored in Aperture. The EXIF metadata that Aperture displays is out of sync. For example if I open an image in Photoshop and change the colorspace from Gray to RGB Apertuer still displays Gray in the 'Color Model' field.
Other EXIF related fields share this problem: bit depth, file size, profile, etc. Does anyone know how to get Aperture to update this information when an image gets saved?

I have been observing some 'inconsistencies' in Aperture's behavior with regard to editing files externally--in my case that means Photoshop CS3.
It has only started to come to my attention in the past week that Aperture isn't always behaving the way I might expect. Sometimes this is caused by not fully understanding the program's behavior. Some of the things that I have been puzzling over:
    1. With some large TIFF files imported to Aperture the moved to external referenced locations the EXIF information is totally out of whack. Images that Photoshop opens directly as 1-bit show in Aperture as bit.
    2. Edited images don't have the metadata updated to reflect image changes. If I open a file in an external editor it becomes a new master. The EXIF data that Aperture shows should tell me about the current state of that master file. If I open a file and crop it in Photoshop I expect Aperture to show the new cropped dimensions.
    3. Aperture does seem to update the image thumbnails each time I save the image in Photoshop.
    4. Sometimes I get files opening in their native color spaces. Aperture wants to convert everything to Adobe RGB but there seem to be some cases where this doesn't happen.
    5. Finally and most troublesome I have had a couple of cases recently where I tried to reopen a file that had been externally edited only to find that none of the changes I had carefully saved were recorded in the file. Photoshop has crashed a few times when trying to save a file opened from Aperture. After a restart the file in question seems to be MIA inside Aperture.
Hmm......I will have to start watching much more closely what is happening when I use the edit in external editor feature.

  • IPhoto 6 and Exif information?

    Hi All,
My first posting since switching from Windows, so please take it easy on me?
I have a reasonable large digital photo collection from my old PC. I have imported this into iPhoto and allowed iPhoto to copy the images to its folder so it can take care of them. All of this so far has worked well.
I have a question about the Exif information within the actual picture files.
Before the images are imported into iPhoto, from Finder, I can do a “get info” on them and it will tell me information about which camera manufacture, model, etc… However, after importing in to iPhoto, again from Finder, this information is no longer available. But you can see this information from within iPhoto.
Does this mean that the import process has “changed” the files and maybe removed the Exif tags copying them in to the iPhoto database (or something?).
    Thanks in advance.
    Ady.

    Ady:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I'm not able to duplicate that stripping of the EXIF data. All that gets changed in the info window is the size, lost 0.2 MB out of 1.8 in size, and the "Last Opened" time was different. Now this is in the Info window brought up by Command+I in the finder. The files are from a Canon PowerShot S400.
Actually there was one bit of info lost. The file had a keyword associated with it and it did no show up on the edited version of the files in iPhoto but did show up on the original file in iPhoto.
Interesting to note is that if I do an edit, like a rotate, the only info that changes is the size. Again, another 0.2MB is lost. Then do some red eye removal and we gain back 0.1MB. Very strange. But the EXIF info is retained throughout.

  • EXIF Information while in Safari?

Is there any way (via customization or add-in) to allow Safari to display EXIF information from a jpeg photograph? I know that I could safe the image and load it into iPhoto or use some other piece of software (like CocoView) but I was curious if there's any way to access the EXIF information from directly within Safari (e.g., like being able to option-click on an image).
    Thanks.

I don't know how in safari, but you can in firefox.

  • Failed to obtain image version information from Aperture library

Mac OS X 10.10.1 (yes, Yosemite...)
    Aperture 3.6
    Lightroom 5.7,1 (CC version)
When trying to import some libraries from aperture I get this immediate response "Failed to obtain image version information from Aperture library".
In the plug-in import window, Number of image/video files is "undetermined", as well as Disk space required.
Tried with different Aperture libraries, but with the same negative result.
The plug-in worked in previous Lightroom version or when it was a stand alone plug-in.
    Thnak you
    Stefano

OK, here is the workaround I did to migrate all my images.
    1. I broke down my Aperture library into separate libraries based on year (highlight all the 2014 projects, for example, right click, and "export to library")
    2. Import each separate library into Lightroom, one at a time.
    3. Delete the year-based libraries - and leave your original library on the drive (in case you need it in the future).
I found I had one project in my 2013 photos which was causing Lightroom's scan of my database to fail. So I ended up creating metadata riders for that one project and imported it after I got the rest of my images imported.

  • Upload to Mobile Me strips off EXIF information?

If I plug in the iPhone, import the pictures I've taken into my iPhoto Library, upload them to a MobileMe Web Gallery, and look at their EXIF information (using the "i" button in a slidehow), all the GPS information and other tags are on there.
If I choose a photo on the iPhone itself and send it to mobile me, it arrives there with no GPS information and other tags are missing. Why? How in the heck can we do mobile geotagging if the system is stripping off all the GPS information?

Go to the System/MobileMe preference pane, log out, log in with a bogus name and password (this clears the name and password cache) and log in with the correct MMe account name and password. Then try again.

  • Adding EXIF Fields to Aperture - possible?

    Hello all,
I would like to add to the EXIF fields that aperture displays.  I know that you edit the Metadata views, and check the various Metadate Fields on and off, but I would like to add Metadata that my camera records in EXIF that aren't listed.  Is that possible?
As an example, one of the EXIF fields that I see when looking at the RAW picture using exiftool is "Drive Mode" (with a value of "Continuous Shooting" in this particular image).  However, I don't see a selectable "Drive Mode" field in the Metadata Fields list, so is it possible to edit the EXIF fields that Aperture displays somewhere?
    Thanks,
    Brian

To see, which of the EXIF fields of your images Aperture recognizes, try a simple Apple Script:
Launch AppleScript Editor and paste this in:
    tell application "Aperture"
              set imageSel to (get selection)
repeat with i from 1 to count of imageSel
                        tell item i of imageSel
get name of every EXIF tag
                        end tell
              end repeat
    end tell
Then select an image in Aperture and press the "Run" button in AppleScript's toolbar.
This script will simply list all names of the EXIF tags, that are available to be used in AppleScript messages to Aperture.
For example for my Canon Photos I see this list:
    {"ApertureValue", "CameraSerialNumber", "CaptureDayOfWeek", "CaptureHourOfDay", "CaptureMinuteOfHour", "CaptureMonthOfYear", "CaptureSecondOfMinute", "CaptureYear", "ColorModel", "ColorSpace", "Copyright", "Depth", "ExifVersion", "ExposureBiasValue", "ExposureMode", "ExposureProgram", "Firmware", "Flash", "FlashExposureComp", "FlashPixVersion", "FocalLength", "FocusMode", "ISOSpeedRating", "ImageDate", "LensMaxMM", "LensMinMM", "LensModel", "Make", "MaxApertureValue", "MeteringMode", "Model", "PixelHeight", "PixelWidth", "ProfileName", "SceneCaptureType", "ShutterSpeed", "WhiteBalance", "WhiteBalanceIndex"}
To use all tags that exiftool sees, you can embed calls to exiftool into an AppleScript and write them to a Custom Metadata field.

  • Photoshop Elements 10 overwrites EXIF-Information

    Hello,
    I installed PE10 new after deinstalling PE8.
After opening PE10 the first time, my catalog was converted to the new format.
I addes some pictures and PE10 changed the date/time-info of the file in my folder and it overwrites the exif-Information (date of photo and so on).
How can I tell PE10, that in case of importing pictures it has to read exif information and use it in the organizer ?
I like to let the date/time-info of the file to the date of taking the picture. Also the exif information has to stay in original form.
    Any ideas ?
At the moment I don't like the programm - if it is the normal behavior, i through money out of the window and have to delete the programm ! I can't use it if it changed this informations.
Only my camera has to write the exif information.
    Thx for any help.

    Hey,
This is the default behavior of PSE (or i guess for all other similar apps). This is logical also. Let me try to explain you-
Organizer shows five date time fields, which are-
Date original- It tells when the photos was shot.
Date digitized- It tells when the photo was digitized. As today's camera are all digital so this field is same as date original.
date time - It is the time when you modify your EXIF info.
Date created - Time when photo is created on your HDD.
Date modified - Time when your photo gets modified.
The organizer grid shows the date in same order that is: Date original->Date digitized->Date time->date created->date modified. When you use 'adjust date time functionality' Organizer changes the date which is shown in grid which in most cases is Date original.
Now in order to retain the shot date, I guess Date digitized field is introduced. So 'Date digitized' is actually shot date and Organizer will never change that.

Unfortunately there is no way to do that current stage , you would need to add the tags manually.
