I am not certain what you mean.  Are you saying that when you close the cover it does not sleep?  Are you certain you have a cover with the magnets that will put it to sleep?

  • All-in-one 6830 printer Does not enter sleep mode when connected to a phone line

HP staff  help. HP all-in-one printer 6830 does not enter sleep mode when conntected to a phone line via 1-Line jack.  The Firmware is PNP1CN1521AR. On August 1, 2015,  I purchased an HP all-in-one 6830  printer and upgraded to firmware PNP1CN1521AR.When a phone line is connected to 1-Line jack of 6830, the printer will no longer enter  sleep mode and the display remains on indefinitly.Removing the phone connection either from the wall outlet or from the printer causes the sleep mode to work correctly again where the control panel display turns off after 5 minutes (or optionally  after 10 or 15 minutes). This problem was previously reported by a user and has not been resolved, see:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Printing-Questions/Sleep-mode-of-Officejet-Pro-6830/td-p/4772182 The user did not receive a resolution to this problem according to the thread.
There seems to be a  6830 printer firmware or hardware problem causing this. HP  should be able to confirm this problem on 6830 easily.
    Please advise ASAP.
    Thanks

It's a regular analog phone line. I've tested it with other phone lines. No difference. I have another all-in-one printer which works fine (goes to sleep mode) when plugged into the same phone line.
The 6830 works ok in other aspects. The only problem is the sleep mode. Any 6830 with the firmware I mentioned should replicate the same result, regardless of anything else. The previous firmware to PNP1CN1521AR also created this problem according to the original report of this problem by another user.
I'm sure there's a bug in the firmware. A subroutine in the firmware monitoring the incoming fax ringing, mistakenly, sees the voltage across the phone jack pins as an event and wakes up the printer instantly even though there's no ringing. As the previous user also suspected, there seems to be an error in the phone line voltage threshold used by the firmware. The present firmware always sees a ringing at the phone line which causes it to never stay in sleep mode.

  • MacBook - stop going to sleep mode When lid closed

    Hi ,
I am using handbrake to convert video files on macbook .
I want to close the laptop lid and still want the process to run in background .
Some one mentioned that if the laptop lid is closed and the system is running it gets heated rapidly .
I want to do this for 45 minutes ( commute between office and home ).
So , how do I close the lid ( display ) and not allow the system to go to standby/sleep.
    Thanks
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    You could also use InsomniaX.
I do not think that it's that bad for your macbook (heat generation); see this article: How to use your PowerBook G4, MacBook Pro or MacBook with the display closed.
I would not recommend picking your notebook up, though, since the hard disk's heads could scratch your hard disk... That's one of the things standby prevents.
By the way; why wouldn't you use standby? Your mac goes in standby rapidly, and wakes up even faster!

  • My macbook pro 2.0 early 2011 will not go to sleep with the power source connected. only enters sleep mode when running on battery. Someone did this happen, and it could solve?

Alo, my Macbook pro i7 2 GHz Intel Core i7 (early 2011) will not go to sleep with the power source connected. only enters sleep mode when running on battery. Someone did this happen, and it could solve?

There is no output from that command line?   Maybe the pid changed.
I'll repeat what I am trying to find out...
    1. You do a pmset -g on the terminal.
    2. The output from that pmset should have a line that says "sleep 0 (imposed by n)" where n is some number.
    3. The ps ax | grep n is supposed to display what the process associated with n is.
It's the output from step 3 that should indicate what is causing you not to sleep.
But speaking of sleep, that's where I am going.

  • Is there a way to prevent my macbook pro from entering sleep mode when I close it??

I want to use it with a mirrored display so I have no need for my laptop to be open. Thanks

Connecting an external monitor and USB keyboard will prevent sleep with the lid closed. You can also use a software utility like Wake Up 1.0.0 UB or Caffeine.

  • IdeaPad B590A - dropped into sleep mode when lid was covered and requests a password

Hello, dears! Sorry if I missed the section, I'm a newcomer
I bought my Lenovo IdeaPad B590A with Windows 8 a week ago. Having used it a bit I happened to cover the lid. My notebook turned into the sleep mode. It requests a PASSWORD now, but I have no idea what password?
Thus, now I have 2 screenviews upon Restart: 1) Screen with LENOVO sign and 2) screen with a profile photo (empty), the number " 1" and the line for a password. But I did'n created a password.
Some people recommended that I use Restart and then press F8 button for a 'safety regime' opening for Windows. The problem is the notebook does not show the Windows screen - only Lenovo screen and Rquesting password screen.
Is there any chance to remove this password request so that I could enter finally?
I'd be grateful for any advice,

    Hi Ekaterina,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that your B590A Laptop is waking up on a Password prompt which you have not created, but let me inform you that without creating the password for the current user account the popup will not be prompted at the startup. As it is displaying password for a Single user, I strongly suggest you to perform OSRI (Operating System Re-Install) using OKR (One Key Recovery) by clicking on OKR button provided in the computer, below is the link to download the User Guide for the steps to perform OSRI and refer page no. 1 to locate the OKR button and page no. 27 for the steps to perform OKR.
NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OSRI, as the data will be completely erased.

  • Macbook Pro does not enter sleep mode anymore

    Hey guys!
I have found several threads relating to this topic, none of them offering a solution, which worked for me.
I recently updated from Tiger to Leopard (clean install), since then my computer won´t go to sleep automatically. I can put it to sleep manually or close the lid, it will sleep and wake up without any problems.
However, it will not go into *sleep mode automatically* when inactive. The display will sleep, with the sleep light constantly on and not pulsing, fans keep going.
What i have tried so far:
    - closing all applications
    - disable all network sharing
    - SMC reset
    - PRAM reset
None of those did work out for me.
I really do hope someone can help me out here, as i don´t want my computer to burn calories 24/7.
    Thanks in advance

how do i check for those processes? there are a lot of processes running, what are haxies?
You would set the time to sleep to a short time and simply watch the top processes to see if a new one pops up.
Haxies are tools that modify the OS directly. TinkerTools is one of them. They are safe to use, but sometimes problematic.
i checked for the login items:
iCalAlarmScheduler and EyeTV Helper are activated.
    Aha!
I would remove both of them, but I think the EyeTV Helper is the problem.
Some have reported the EyeTV Helper being a problem in waking the computer up at odd hours, but it might also affect sleep. You remove them with the little ( - ) sign at the bottom, not the "hide" checkbox with does nothing important.
Cmd-Opt-Eject puts my macbook to sleep, yes.
Just checking that a force-sleep works. I use it all the time.

  • Memory problems, system hangs or does not enter 'sleep' mode

Since my MacBook automatically upgraded itself (Software Update) to 10.5.7 about a month ago I've had nothing but problems with it.
I keep getting 'low memory' warnings, or the 'please wait' twirling symbol displays for ages whilst something happens in the background, or the system occasionally hangs for no apparent reason. Sometimes it reboots without warning.
But the most irritating aspect of the problems I'm experiencing is that when I put it into Sleep mode and subsequently want to wake it up, I notice that the cooling fan is in overdrive (so clearly not asleep at all) and then upon opening the cover I get a blank screen (nothing 'wakes up'). Or so it appears. But actually upon closer inspection I can see my last used screen display in very faint outline somewhere in the darkness of the screen. The only way out of this scenario is to hold the on/off button until the machine shuts down, wait a few moments and then boot from scratch.
From reading other comments in this forum there seem to be some real problems with 10.5.7, so I suspect I'm not alone in experiencing the problems I've described above.
I'd be interested to know whether people think I should take my MacBook to my local Apple Store to get them to have a look at a fix of some kind, or perhaps there is something I could be doing myself?

For the record, no computer can just update it's system software on it's own. When Apple has updates available you must type in your admin password at the prompt in order to "Accept" the terms. The software cannot be installed without your knowledge.
Next... anytime you do software updates of any kind, run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) and repair disk permissions. Launch Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Try booting from your install disk and verify whether or not the hard disk has errors.
Insert the installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
    Check available disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see
Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.

  • MBP goes sleep mode when ext. monitor turns off

Hi, sorry I couldn't find the exact answer, so I opened up a new topic. My MBP is connected to an external monitor with HDMI and I am using MBP with lid closed. But when I turn off the monitor, MBP goes to sleep mode. Can I prevent this? I need to let MBP work while external monitor is turned off. I tried Insomnia software but couldn't make it.
    Thanks.

I have exactly this issue. I closed the lid last night and woke this morning to a very hot machine. It had not entered sleep mode.
When you close the lid, my Macbook enters sleep mode for a few seconds, then the external monitor wakes up.
If you 'force' sleep by on/off button it seems OK. Help!
PS: Should have said all this happened after upgrade to Lion yesterday.

  • I am running OSX Lion 10.7.4 and the computer no longer will go into sleep mode when I close the cover What happened with this option?

I am running OSX Lion 10.78.4 and the computer will no longer go into sleep mode when I close the cover. In system preferences I can no longer find the option that allows for this energy saving feature. What happened to this option and why is this no longer happening with the latest version of Lion?

No external monitors or devices attached. When you mention that this function only works when devices are attached that is true when you set up your preferences that way. Up until my upgrade to Lion the computer would always go into sleep mode when I closed the lid. There also used to be an option to check in system preferences that allowed you to choose this option. My question for the discussion is what happened to that option and how do you get the computer to sleep or at least the display to sleep when you close the lid as we have been able to do in the past. Thanks.

  • Macbook Pro not sleeping when lid closed

Since upgrading my late 2011 13-inch Macbook Pro to Yosemite, I've noticed that it does not go to sleep properly when I close the lid. While the screen does turn off, the white LED remains on at full brightness and the fans spin up to maximum speed. When I open the lid again, the fans slow down but the screen doesn't turn back on until I press a key. This suggests it wasn't sleeping at all and the display saver simply activated.
If I use the Apple menu (top left) to enter Sleep mode, wait for it to go to sleep then close the lid, it sleeps properly with the white LED glowing slowly.
I have checked the Energy Saver preferences, and there is no Sharing set up so I doubt that's the problem. Is anyone else having this issue? Any ideas how to fix it?

Similar issue after upgrade w my MBP (early 2011).
Close the screen with apps open... climb into bed... the laptop appears to enter sleep BUT several times thruout the night I hear the optical drive spin up along with the hard drive and screen glow (visible w screen closed as a glow)... then... it goes back to sleep (must detect closed screen).
    Weird.
Did not do so with prior OS installs (not hardware issue... related to Yosie install).
