Lenovo X201 external monitor resolution issue

Hi,
I'm having issues connecting my Lenovo X201 through the docking station -> display port -> Dell 3011.  The native resolution for the monitor is 2560x1600.  However, I currently can only set the resolution to 1920x1080 (ugly!) as any high resolution results in the monitor entering power save mode.
I'm using xrandr to set the video mode in my .xinitrc (running dwm).  This creates a good Xinerama config for dwm.
I'm currently using the line
xrandr --output DP1 --mode 1920x1080 --above LVDS1
to set my resolution.  When I change to --auto or --mode 2560x1600, or 1920x1200 etc I get the blank screen on the external monitor.  I'm using the xf86-video-intel-sna driver package (I tried the -uxa as well to no avail).
Any hints?

I was able to get it by having arandr help generate the config, here's the solution that worked for me:
xrandr --output HDMI1 --off --output LVDS1 --auto --right-of DP1 --output DP1 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --auto --output VGA1 --off

Ive tried installing the monitor drivers with no luck.
Does someone has experience on this?

  • MBA and 30" LG External Monitor Resolution Issue

    Hello!
I own a LG 3000H monitor (HUGE 30" 2590x1600) that I use with my windows desktop computer for video editing and it is an amazing monitor. I wanted to use it with my Macbook Air Summer 2009 (2.13Ghz, 128GB SSD, Nvidia 9400M) as an external display. I bought the Mini-Display Port to DVI adaptor and hooked it in to the monitors DVI cable and the resolution won't go higher than 1280x800 (the same resolution as the MBA's display). I tried everything I could think of and it's not working. I called Apple Care and they didn't do crap after an hour on the phone so I was wondering if anyone here could suggest anything. I also have the Mini-Display to VGA adaptor so does anyone know if I get a VGA->DVI adaptor would that work? (because the monitor only has one Dual Link DVI slot as an input) I'd really like to use this monitor! Thanks!

    Hi,
to use the full resolution of that monitor, you have to use a Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adaptor like this http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4MzU1ODY
(According to the MBA tech specs http://support.apple.com/kb/SP548 )
Using the BGA-port of that monitor will not bring up the full resolution of it.
Plus for the full resolution you have to set the display settings of the MBA to "Extended Desktop" not "Mirrored".

  • X201 w/ Ultrabase resolution issue

I am having docking issues with my X201 i7 running Windows 7 64bit where the screen rapidly flips between the laptops 1280x800 and my monitor's 1920x1200 resolution. Here are the steps to cause it and fix it. I am looking for a long term fix so I don't need to do the work around each time and any help would be appretiated.
    1. Suspend laptop while undocked
    2. Dock laptop into ultrabase
    3. Turn on laptop with screen closed using dock power button
    4. See screen rapidy toggle between 1280x800 and 1920x1200 resolutions
    --Work around --
    5. Open laptop
    6. Windows-P and select mirror displays
    7. Close laptop
    8. External monitor show correct resolution of 1920x1200.
It seems like two process are fighting to control the resolution. I've uninstalled the latest version of the drivers from the Lenovo site and install slightly older ones from Windows Update. That didn't work so I uninstalled those and re-installed the latest from Lenovo again.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dan E.

I have same/similar issue, but I have been going through the hassle of shutting down windows and then turning it back on to work around it.
    Specifically:
I have a x200 base with dual 19'' monitors at home office (1440x900). One on DP to DVI adaptor, and one on VGA.
The problem occurs when put it into sleep and then dock it onto my x200 base at work, where I have dual 1920x1200, 24'' monitors. One DP to DVI, and one VGA. The monitor set as primary (i think its the DVI monitor, but i'm not sure), will only recognize at a maximum of 1440x900. But the VGA seems to recognize at 1920x1200 just fine. So I would just restart the computer and it would recognize properly.
I'll have to try Dendhoff or dgsmith1's workarounds today.
    Anyone find any better solution?

  • External monitor resolution setting is not saved

I use an external monitor as an extended desktop for my macbook pro.
The problem is that whenever I turn on the mbp, the resolution of the external monitor reverts back to the default resolution. Is there any way to set the resolution of the external monitor and have the mbp save it even after turning the mbp on and off?

    Hello all,
After installing the 10.5.2 update, my Macbook Pro's boot time increased. So, after researching this issue, I decided to reset the PRAM. This solved the boot time problem, as my Mac now boots as quickly as it did prior to the update. But now, the brightness setting is not saved and the brightness level returns to the maximum value each boot up. Other settings, like audio level, are saved properly. The brightness seems to be the only problem. Any ideas on how to correct this?
    Thanks,
    Anthony
Besides staying with 10.5.1 has anyone found a real solution to this? I want to install Aperture and I need to have 10.5.2 installed in order to instal Aperture v2.x.
    Thanks!

  • How to make Lenovo recognize external monitor as default at boot time?

    Hello,
I suspect this is a rather simple fundamental Windows operation procedure, but I am going bald - tearing my hair out - trying to get this to work!!  I use Windows XP on a Lenovo 3000 V100, with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver (Intel 945W chipset).  Whenever I plug into an external monitor, I always have to manually switch the display from the laptop to the external monitor.  Here's the sequence of what happens.
    1) connect external monitor & turn on laptop
    2) Lenovo banner appears on the external monitor
    3) Windows banner appears on the external monitor
    4) but then Windows GUI (log-on screen) switches back to laptop monitor.
    5) must use hot keys to toggle the display from laptop to external monitor.
    6) must then reselect resolution settings of the external monitor (none of previously saved settings were recognized!!!)
I must repeat these steps once I logged of my computer session; and reconnect with the external monitor later.  I would appreciate any help or suggestions.  Thank you.

I don't have an V100 to check the following but, if you go into BIOS (F1 at boot) there should hopefully be an entry in the Config > Display menu allowing you to select default boot display as VGA rather than intern.

  • Thinkpad tablet 10 maximum external monitor resolution

    Hi,
The max resolution that I'm getting on the external monitor either using the docking station or the micro HDMI port is 1920x1080. The native resolution for the touch panel is 1920X1200.
    1. Is there any way to get alo least 1920X1200 on the external monitor?
    2. If not, what could be the technical reason if the video card in theory supports even more than 1920X1200.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm afraid that this limit of resolution looks to be by design; the Lenovo spec in the PSREF documents state:
"Intel HD Graphics in processor, supports 1080p video out via micro-HDMI connector, HDCP-compliant"
The Intel Atom chipset used in the TP10 apparently doesn't deal with higher resolutions than this. See:
    https://communities.intel.com/thread/55056?start=0&tstart=0
Baytrail processors from the Core range can go to higher resolutions, but I don't think that this applies to the Atom architecture.

  • U110 How to Retain External Monitor Resolution

I'm trying to help someone with an IdeaPad U110 and an external monitor.  The Lenovo allows me to login with an external keyboard and monitor but as soon as it boots Windows, the external monitor goes dark and I have to choose FnF3 each time to re-enable the external monitor and then reset the resolution to 1680 X 1050.  Isn't there a way to get the Lenovo to retain these settings so I don't have to do this each time I boot it up?  THANKS!!

    Hi JLNH,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
    Please try these steps.
1 – Click the Start button.
    2 – Click Control Panel.
3 – Click Appearance and Personalization.
4 – Click Adjust screen resolution.
Now once you have the resolution page
    1 Select your exrernal monitor
2 Set the display type to duplicate
    3 Place a check
Restart the computer and check if it remains on.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

  • Please help me with external monitor resolution! Now!!

So i just bought a 22' Acer monitor to use via a VGA adapter with my xbox 360 (to get weak HD in time for Halo 3). I also own a MacBook Pro (the latest Sata Rosa one) which has an Nvidia GeForce 8600M graphics card with 128 VRAM. To my dismay however when i plug the monitor into the MacBook Pro via the DVI to VGA adapter that came with it i find the screen resolution to being very low, almost standard definition. I have fiddled with the settings and everything and found the best resolution is to have the MBP on 1440x900 and the Acer monitor on 1680x1050at 60Hz but its still shoddy resolution. Please could anyone shed some light on the subject? The funny thing is though, when i boot into Windows via Bootcamp, the monitor looks alot better (but still not good enough) and i have far more settings to adjust via the Nvidia control panel. Please help me with this because i only have a few days to decide wether or not I should take it back. Thankyou.
Here's the monitor with some specs: http://www.pcworld.co.uk:80/martprd/store/pcwpage.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0884756254.1190642998@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccggaddmdfmkflmc flgceggdhhmdgmi.0&categoryoid=-27763&sku=774215&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null

I have a similar problem. New Macbok Pro with an Nvidia card and an external monitor (HP f2105) 21 inches max resolution of 1680x1050.
My issue only happens via Boot Camp on Windows Vista (it's fine in OS X and Paralells).
I previously owned a Macbook and the external display was at max resolution, now, I only get a non-modifiable 1024x768 option on the HP display...
Don't know what to do, no info on Nvidia or HP forums... I assume it's a driver issue. COuld it be that a HP driver for the display itself help? Do drivers for displays actually exist?
Sad that the Macbook Pro does not comply as well as a normal Macbook.

  • External monitor flickering issues on T520

Hi, I have a Lenovo T520 with Nvidia NVS 4200M with the latest driver installed. I pluged both a VGA external monitor, then removed it and pluged a newer Displayport monitor and both monitors flicker. Thank youFrançois

Yes they are all on recommended resolutions. I did a factory reset on my Dell Ultrasharp monitor (with mini-displayport to displayport cable) but it did the same flickering on an older HP LCD display with VGA connexion. I'm going to try changing the vsync settings. It is on "use the 3D application setting" now but I will try "adaptive". And I also noticed there is a newer Nvidia driver from windows update, I will try that after. Thank you!Frankie

  • External monitor resolution

    Hi,
I've just made the longed for switch from pc to mac by buying a 17" mac book pro.
I have also bought a 27" external Viewsonic monitor which arrived today - Christmas come early for me this year.
Everyone's up and running fine, that was easy enough. But I do have an issue with the different resolutions of the 2 monitors.
On the external 27" the screen is not showing all content on the mac book screen - there's areas cropped off top and bottom.
Is there a way to resolve that so I can see the same area as on the mac?
    If so how please?
    Thanks
ps: External monitor is a Viewsonic VX2753mh-LED 27"
Mac is running OS X 10.6.7

    Google this: Screen Spanning Doctor
Note: It may void the warranty, but it does work. Very well in fact.

  • GE70 2PE secondary monitor resolution issue

So I bought a MSi GE70 2PE yesterday and today I tried connecting it with my tv with HDMI, which has worked fine both with my stationary computer as well as other computers, using the same cable.
Today however when i plugged it into this laptop I got a low 1024 resolution on my tv and the settings for resolution wont allow me to change it to any higher and can't duplicate the screen and extention of screen isn't working properly either as all of my screen apparently can't fit into the 1024 resoltuion, trying to bypass this by changing the resolution while plugging in the HDMI cable the TV just turned black and no sound was transmitted with the HDMI cable.
As far as I can understand for some unknown reason the secondary monitor uses the intel integrated graphics card, I've update the drivers both for this and for the nvidia card.
As for updated drivers, yes all is updated and have tried the general common solutions, the computer was bought yesterday so having a hard time understanding how this can't work properly.
Thanks in advance for any solution.

Actually there is some more questions according to your post:
    1. Does the notebook display normally when it's not connected to any external monitor?
    2. Where did you change the resolution when you try to bypass the issue? In Intel's graphics properties? or on TV?
    3. How did you set the duplicate mode? by using Fn+F2 or WIN+P?

  • External monitor resolution in Vista on MacBook Pro

I am running Vista Ultimate on a MacBook Pro. I have a Dell 24" external monitor plugged in, which supports a top resolution of 1920 x 1200. But Vista thinks it's a generic non-PnP monitor with a top resolution of 1024 x 768. I have installed the Windows drivers from my Leopard disk, but neither the Vista Displays control panel nor the nVidia software think the resolution of this monitor can go any higher. I tried looking on nVidia's site for newer drivers, but they said for the M series video cards to go to the computer manufacturer for drivers because they modify them for power consumption and other special needs.

    I found the solution.

MacBook Pro mid 2012. Samsung 204Ts Monitor is not working in full res. However it works in full resolution on Mac Mini (Core 2 Duo)

In order to get the external monitor's native resolution uncheck use mirrored mode in your display preferences. If you are using mirrored mode then your computer's display, including its resolution is used on the external monitor,
