Lenovo y500 trouble connecting to internet

Hi Lenvo community! I bought a lenovo y500 recently and have had trouble connnecting to private networks from the moment i opened the notebook. The day I recieved my computer I took it out of the box and tried to connect it to the internet during the windows 8 start up personalizations.. It didn't work. It would connect but the static of the network connection would say limited; "Unidentified, No internet access"., The next day I took it to work and the computer connected to the network (which is public) without flaw. This also occurs at the school and other public networks. I have tried connecting to networks at many of my friends houses and I have the same result at home. All in all I can connect to public networks but not private. All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, jsolle
I would recommend trying to remove the Intel Management Engine Driver from Control Panel ► Programs and Features. I have seen issues similar to this with Windows 8 and Intel network adapters, and this issue has helped on several occasions, so it may be of assistance to you.
Hope it helps,
Adam

  • Virus??? computer having trouble connecting to internet

Last week, my son's school computer got a virus, and sent me about 50 copies of the same email message. Since then, things have not been working properly on my macbook. Safari is telling me it can't connect to the internet, even though the network diagnostic tool tells me there is no problem. Mail is having trouble connecting too, and my idisk is suddenly inaccessible. I wanted to restore to a previously saved backup of my personal settings that I have been saving to my idisk but backup said it couldn't connect to the idisk. Backup also gave me a scary message when I had no choice but to abort the "restore".
I've seen lots of messages here claiming that there are no mac viruses, but if that is the case, what could be going on here? I already rebooted several times, and repaired permissions on the hard drive. any other suggestions???

Hey, Mort, thanks. I did find clamxav last night on the web and left it running this morning (I'm at work now.) So we'll see what it has or has not found when I get home later. It didn't allow me to just run the software on my whole hard drive, though, I had to choose folders. I chose the system and library. Do you have any other ideas about where the virus (if it is a virus) could be living?
I'm not sure if my system has been updated. I run "software update" once a week so perhaps it has already happened. I'll check tonight.

  • New iPad having trouble connecting to Internet via Wifi.

I have had all 3 iPads and I got the new one on Friday, however starting today I have had a lot of trouble connecting to the Internet via Wifi. I could not connect at home nor at school where I have had no problems before with my previous iPads, and all my friends are having not having any problems connecting to the Internet with their iPad 2's. Is there something wrong with the new iPads?
    I have a 3rd generations iPad 16GB Wifi only.

Then you may have a defective iPad  If you can show it to an Apple Store Genius, you may get a replacement if the Genius can not fix it.
If there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center.  There may be one in your city.  <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>

  • Lenovo Y50 Not connecting to Internet after windows 10 update

    Just as the title says.
I was able to install some windows 10 updates with wifi as my usb modem would not work
After that i can't connect to the internet. I can connect to wifi and it shows internet access but i can't still connect to internet.
One funny thing though i typed ipconfig in cmd and no ip address was found it shows something like media no connected.
All my drivers are upto date. Downloaded directly from lenovo website. And they are all working perfectly according to device manager

Also worked on 10.4.11. I installed an Airport Express and updated all the software and firmware on my MacBook. After Safari, Itunes store, Google earth could not connect but Firefox was connecting fine. Followed your tip. Disableing the proxies on the Network config does the trick. Very simple but very helpful, thanks.

  • Very confusing/random trouble connecting to internet

I am having intermittent trouble connecting to the internet on my Macbook.  I had this issue a few weeks ago, then it started working on it's own, and now it will not connect again.  I have a Dell laptop and iPhone 5 that all connect fine, the problem is isolated to my Macbook.  I have a Linksys WRT54GS router and Comcast is my ISP.  Here is what I have already tried:
Power cycled modem, router, and Macbook.
    Updated router firmware
    Confirmed Comcast DNS servers
Deleted wireless network from Macbook (including deleting all related passwords from keychain) and rebooted. Tried this multiple times.
Ran all OS updates (last time it would connect).
As I mentioned, this happened a few weeks ago and I gave up trying to figure it out.  Last week I booted up Macbook by chance and everything was back to working fine.  Now again today the problem has come back.  If I use Firefox, nothing happens.  If I use Safari, it will randomly open a webpage but it takes several minutes.
I need ideas on what else could be causing this.  It is not an ISP or router issue as I am currently typing this using the same network, just on a Dell computer.
    Please help!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can switch that "link status" to "active"?
Assuming this is ethernet, plug in the cable.
The link active is little more than an indicator that the OS knows something's plugged into the port. If it's inactive then it doesn't see the cable. Either the cable is loose or it's faulty. Might be worth trying another cable.
Bear in mind that the 'loose' connector could be either end of the cable.

  • Trouble Connecting To Internet With Built-In Internet

    Hello everyone!
My iBook G4 is all of a sudden having trouble connecting to my Sprint DSL through the built-in Ethernet connection; in the Network preferences, there's a red light next to the Built-in Ethernet that warns: "The cable for built-in Ethernet is connected, but your computer does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet."
When I open the tab for the Ethernet preferences, there's no IP address listed. I try to refresh the DHCP lease, nothing happens. There's an IPv6 address, but that doesn't seem to do anything for me. Restarting the computer and the modem don't help -- and Sprint is stumped and doesn't know what to do. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Thanks for the response -- I've tried restarting the Mac and the router multiple times; it doesn't help. Sometimes if the computer is shut down then turned back on (but not restarted), the Ethernet will be able to connect to the internet, until the computer goes to sleep.
Then, when it wakes up from sleep, the Ethernet's broken again. And for the past two days, no amount of shutting down and restarting is working. It's some kind of software glitch, but I just don't know how to fix it.

  • [G505s]Trouble connecting to internet (wireless)

    Hi everyone,
I am having some trouble with my laptop, at home where I use this device I always use a wireless connection. My phone, Nintendo systems and XBOX have no problems with it. But for some odd reason my laptop has only two of the 5 stripes of reach and my internet is very unstable where it stops working at all completly sometimes.(It's still connected to my router though...) I am certain it's my laptop but I have no idea what it is. Maybe someone can tell me what I could do?

    hi Langin,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Your issue might be similar to this thread.
Just to check, are you running on these factory default drivers?
    Atheros v10.0.0.242
    Broadcom v6.30.59.87
If not, can your uninstall your current driver and install this one then observe:
    Wlan Driver (Atheros, Broadcom)
    for 64-bit Windows
    49.8MB
In addition, you may want to try what jaxs94 have done which is to uninstall the Catalys Control Center. If you get the same problem though, try to use an ethernet cable and observe.

Hi, I am running a Lenovo Idea Centre with Win 8 and have 3 user accounts set up.  My own account seems to work fine, but the other 2 accounts will not connect to the internet, but Window Mail works ok!!  Does anybody know of a tweak which will resolve this problem please?

    Welcome to the Forums.
Ccan you try the following on the user accounts that can't access the internet,
    1. Temporarily disable any security software (i.e. Norton, Mcafee, etc.)
    2. Go to Control Panel (large icon view) > Internet Options  and on the Connection Tab's Lan Settings, ensure that the proxy server box is unchecked.
      - Link to picture
     3. If same problem, try to boot in Safe Mode with Networking abd observe.

  • Time Capsule blinks yellow, when I go to airport utility to set up, it Says This apple wi-fi bse station doesn't have any DNS server addresses and might have trouble connecting to internet.  My internet works, but I can't back up anything. What do I do??

Worked fine for about a couple of weeks after my son -law installed the time capsule.  I can access the Internet both from my wife's I phone and from my desktop.  I think that I need to get the DNS server numbers and put them in the two blanks; but where do I get them?  Thanks, Jim

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

  • Having trouble connecting to internet at home only, no problems elsewhere

I have tried searching the forums and can't find anything exactly comparable. I have a newer MacBook (purchased within a few months) but the same problem happened with my old Powerbook G4, too. I cannot always connect to the internet on my home network. The other computers on the network work fine, I have full bars on my airport status, green lights on the router, etc but I keep getting the error message that my computer isn't connected to the internet. The only thing that seems to get it to connect is to restart my computer. Sometimes I need to restart my computer several times before I can get a connection. Sometimes I try and try and it still won't connect, so I leave the computer for a while and when I come back and try again, it will randomly connect. I had this same problem with my old Powerbook and when I got this new one, it's the same problem. When I'm traveling, though, and try to connect to a different network, I never have this problem. It connects every time! I'm not very technical, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them! I did find on the forums that sometimes people can't connect if they are disconnected from the power source, but can connect fine when connected to the power source...I seem to have problems wether I'm connected to the power source or not. Thanks for any suggestions.

The people having problems not connecting without AC power was from the last OSX update to 10.5.8, this problem has since been resolved with an Airport Client update.
Your profile shows that you are running 10.5.6... I would suggest updating you software to the latest 10.5.8 as this fixed some Airport issues.
You may want to unplug the router, let it set a minute the plug it back in.
Is your Powerbook still having these issues? How long has the powerbook been experiencing this problem?

  • Trouble Connecting To Internet.....

Hello, I have a Linksys wireless router model WRT54G (not sur ethe exact model, it's not in front of me right now).  It has worked flawlessly for the past several years, but for some reason has recently stopped working.  I confirmed it's not a problem with the DSL Modem, as I can hard wire connect to my laptop and the internet works fine.  It's clear something is wrong with the wireless router.  I've tried unplugging, hitting the reset button on the back, and nothing has worked.  My computer is able to recognize/locate the router and connect, it's just that I can't connect to the internet.  One thing I've noticed under the wireless connection is that the computer is able to "send" packets, but not "receive."  My experience is that this is always the case when I experience connection problems, but I have no idea what that means.  I was going to call the Help Line, but I see it costs $30 which is likely more than my router is worth and probably 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of a new one so I am trying to troubleshoot myself.  Any ideas on how to fix?  Thanks!

First of all let me know the IP address from the modem connected directly to the computer? Second, let me know the IP address from the router as well connected with the computer? To check the IP address that you are getting from the Router...
You can check the IP address in the following manner:
    # Click on Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt.
    # A black pop up box should come up, type: "ipconfig /all" …
There check the IP address and Default Gateway under LAN….
In order to configure the router you have to make the following physical connectivity:
The router’s power adapter needs to be plugged to your router and into an available power outlet.
If using a wired connection, the first Ethernet cable needs to be plugged to the computer’s LAN port into any of the router’s blue numbered Ethernet ports.
The second Ethernet cable should be plugged to the modem’s Internet port and the other end into the router’s yellow Internet port.
Ensure that you have no firewall enabled that may prevent the router from being detected.
Then configure the router according to ISP setup. To learn how to set up your router with DSL Internet service, here is the link: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=20ee1457387f40178cd5f41d4b585db4_3687.xml&pid=80&r...

  • Having trouble connecting to internet

I have an original iPad using wifi to connect at home.  Even though the wifi says it is connected to my home router, it is not connected to the internet and cannot download any data.  I've reset the netowrk connections, and even did a complete reset.  No luck.  Other devices are connected to the same wifi:  2 PCs, a printer, and 2 iPhones.  What could be wrong?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
