Lens Profiles Across Camera Models ACR 6.6

ACR 6.6:
In looking at the file structure for ACR lens prifiles I see they are organized by camera model in the file name. I have a Canon 50D but the lens I am thinking of acquiring is in the list for a 5D. Will ACR still pull in this profile? I know that there may be some validation issues in dealing with a full sensor vs. a crop sensor in this case.

Yes...ignore the camera models as they don't impact the use of the lens profile.

How do I create an ACR custom lens profile if camera exposure can't be set to manual?
I ask this question for the Nokia 808 PureView 41MP camera. It produces stunning image quality but exposure can only be controlled via EV +/- compensation. I need a lens profile to correct for vignetting to get even skies in panorama (which turn out stunningly otherwise). There is no profile for the Nokia 808 PureView I am aware of and I'd like to produce one.
Is the Adobe profile creator able to correct for varying exposure using EXIF or overlapping parts of the chart or background?
Or would the Adobe profile creator ignore EXIF if I use studio flash to enforce a constant lightning situation, even if shutter speed would vary (aperture is constant and ISO can be set constant, just not the shutter speed)?
Or did Adobe produce a profile internally they can share?
    Thanks.

If you read the first post, this is the camera-app of a 41MP Nokia Pureview 808 camera-phone, so maybe someone could write a new camera app but the phone is Symbian OS which is dead, making that unlikely.

It would probably be easier for Adobe to rewrite the LPC to allow vignetting to be computed from a single shot of a blank wall without a target in the shot, than to have someone rewrite a camera app that allows manual exposure.
Another idea about how to get the phone to keep a constant exposure would be to experiment with putting darker and lighter objects in the field-of-view away from the target area to make the camera metering adjust things so it’s exposure is the same from one shot to the next.  This would take some doing but should work, unless the LPC uses the part of the frame that doesn’t contain the checkboard target in its computations.
You’re basically varying the scene around the target so the camera takes the same exposure of the target each time.

  • Camera Profiles and Lens Profiles are missing in ACR 8.2.

Yesterday I tried to install a new update for CS CC, but it failed. Then I uninstalled the app completely, and installed it again.
When I opened ACR 8.2 I found out that there were no Camera profiles and LensProfiles (as it used to be before). Instead of usual Camera Profile was Matrix. There were no Lens Profiles in Photoshop  Lens Corrections either.
The folder C/.../App Data/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfilesDefault was also empty.
I reinstalled the application a couple times with the same result.
How can I fix the problem?
    Regards, Yulia

Well,  C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\Adobe Standard is also completely empty.

  • Need additional Lens Profiles in Camera RAW

Hello, I have Photoshop CC (always kept up to date), and I would like to add some lens profiles to the camera RAW section. When I select Camera RAW, Lens correction, then Canon, I can not see the lens I actually want, EF16-35 II for the 5DII. This is a very common lens and I have no idea why it is missing.
Do I need to update this somehow manually?
(I can see this lens in Photoshop CC, and the Lens filter, but I want/need it in Camera RAW)

So you use Photomatix to create a 32-bit HDR file and then tone that 32-bit file in ACR?  Are the Photomatix 32-bit files that much different than the PS-CC 32-bit files?  The Photomatix 32-to-16-bit conversion is quite a bit different and perhaps preferable, but I didn’t realize the 32-bit result file is also that much different.  It’s been a while since I’ve tried 32-bit HDRs and even longer since I’ve tried them in Photomatix so things may have changed or I’ve forgotten.
If you are using Photomatix, then you are not using an Adobe raw conversion at all, so Adobe settings and raw lens profiles are not seen and used at the initial raw-conversion stage in Photomatix.
The choices would seem to be that you can use Adobe products to create 16-bit TIFs as an input to Photomatix, or hack an Adobe raw lens profile to be used with non-raw files in ACR, or do your lens profile corrections after you’ve saved your 32-bit HDR image back as a 16-bit one and use the lens corrections area in Photoshop if that is still possible, nowadays.

  • No lens profile for camera.

    I have a Canon G16
Bought Lightroom to use with this and RAW photograph processing.
I have the latest ver of Lightroom 5.5   and RAW 8.5
Import detects and accepts "Canon Powershot G16"   so have the latest profiles, but under Lens Correction ... it does not List G16  (does show G15)
Do we (or can we ) request support for the G16    ?

The G16 already has a built-in lens profile that is always on.  That is why you cannot find it in the list to select.
Here is what a uncorrected image looks like.  Note the barrel distortion near the outside edges:
And here is what the ACR 8.5 plug-in for Photoshop says about the built-in lens profile--something I wish they'd add to Lightroom, too, so as to avoid questions like yours:

  • Lens profile in Camera raw won't load

    Hello :
Can you please tell me why, when in Camera raw, my lens profile won't load. I use photoshop CS6 and have a Nikon d700 lens is 70-200 2.8 both included in the profile available.
All softwar is up to date
    Thank you !

    Sujac:
In CameraRaw (I don't have Lightroom) Camera/Lens profiles are tied to the filetype. So, for example, your image is a JPG, CameraRaw won't show DNG/RAW profiles.
Suggestions: 1) if available, use the RAW file. 2) If it ain't, open the image in an editor that can save the file as a DNG, then do it. The lens profiles will probably be available then.
    Best.

  • "Camera Profile" in Camera Calibration ACR tab - Q

    I upgraded from PSE5 whcih used ACR 4.7 - and now using PSE8 w ACR 6.1
In the Camera Calibration tab in the Camera Profile drop down - I see "ACR 4.7" still listed.
Can someone tell me how to make use of this tab and how I can delete the ACR 4.7 and use 6.1 - if there is a benefit to doing so?
    Thank-you!

I think the issue could be that I have both PSE 5 & 8 installed at the moment.  I'm using the 30 Day Trial - and I'll uninstall PSE 5 once I get my actual disc & serial # in the mail. I did not want to uninstall v5 until I had the v8 serial # and was convinced that v8 worked well.  During the v8 installation - it recognised v5 but said I can keep it.  My concern is uninstalling both and reinstalling v8 and having catalog & stack issues.
I installed the camera profiles as Adobe directs "before" pasting the new ACR 6.1 file in the folder.
Nevertheless, I installed the cameraprofiles.exe again today - previous to posting this thread.
I guess a main question is - what would I be missing out on by not having ACR 6.1 in the profile? (vs 4.6)

  • Lens Profile for Canon 24-70 2.8 USM II lens in ACR 6.7.1, PS5, Mac?

I use a Mac, PS5, ACR 6.7.1.  Recently I bought a Canon 24-70 2.8 USM II lens, but found that there is no such lens profile in the ACR to enable lens correction.  How can I download this lens profile?

Which version of mac os x are you using?
If your using a version newer than mac os x 10.6.8 snow leopard, then see if installing the 8.6 dng converter gives you that lens profile in camera raw.

  • LR 5.3 missing camera/lens profiles

Just came back from the camera store after testing out the Nikon Coolpix P7800 and Sony RX100ii.
Imported the RAW files into LR 5.3 to compare the image quality of the cameras.
I noticed that I could not assign camera and lens profiles to the photos. I currently have a Nikon P7100 which does show up in the drop down list and have had no problem doing lens corrections for the older camera.
I thought the P7800 and RX100ii cameras were added in the latest update. Am I missing something?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Using the new ACR 8.4 RC, the Sony RX100M2 seems fully supported, but the Nikon Coolpix P7800 seems barely supported.
These same conditions are present in LR 5.3.  The only thing new in ACR 8.4 RC is the indication of a built-in profile being used.

  • Lens Profile: ACR 8.8 to LR 5.7.1

    Dear All,
Adobe has made my year by including a lens profile in Camera Raw 8.8 for the Nikon Ai-S 50mm f/1.2 (thank you Adobe!)
Greedy as ever though, I'd like to be able to use this profile in Lightroom so I do not need to invoke Bridge or Photoshop.
Is there a file I can copy from a to b, or is it built-in and inaccessible?
I imagine it will be included in Lightroom 6 anyway, but of course there are no guarantees and we are all impatient (some more than others, clearly).
    Many thanks.

To use a new lens profile provided by ACR 8.8 or the DNG Converter 8.8 (if you don’t have Photoshop) prior to a LR 5.8 or LR 6, you can copy the appropriate lens-specific .lcp file to your users profile area.
The Lens Profile Downloader will only download third party profiles but not ones that are supplied as formal updates so if Adobe has actually provided a profile it’s usually best to use theirs.
On Windows, the profiles that come with ACR and the DNGC are located in the manufacturer subfolder under:
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0
You find the appropriate .lcp file and copy it to your user’s profile folder, which on Windows is here:
    C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0\Downloaded
The default on Windows is to hide the ProgramData and AppData folders in Explorer so you can either change the options to unhide them or just type in the name in the Explorer address area and hit Enter then continue clicking down into the path further.
On a Mac I’m less sure where the ACR and DNGC installers put lens profile files, so I cannot say where to get them from, but if you find them, you can put them this folder that the Lightroom Queen’s indicates:
    Macintosh HD / Users / your username / Library / Application Support / Adobe / CameraRaw / CameraProfiles /

  • In ACR add lens profile for Canon 500 F4 IS

The Canon 500 F4 IS is an extremely (perhaps the most) popular lens for wildlife photographers.  Yet it is missing from the lens profiles.  Why?  How can I request that Adobe get on the ball and include this popular lens?

  • Can I use a Canon Lens profile if there isn't a Sony profile ?

I just bought the Tamron SP 90 2.8 DI MACRO USD and LR lens profiles only lists this lens for Canon (F004E) and Nikon (F004N). There is no profile for Sony (F004S) ! Any drawback if I use F004E or N ? Or better use a the profile of the older Model of that lens where there is a Sony profile ?
    Thanks for answers !

    kleinjn wrote:
One could ask why are there versions of the same profile for Nikon, Canon, Sony and may be others ?
    Good question.
    My guesses:
    * The lens description is not guaranteed to be unique across all camera models, so having camera model in the mix assures the correct lens is unambiguously chosen.
    * Adobe wants to reserve the right to do things differently based on camera model, for the reasons hinted at in my previous post (e.g. data may be registered differently in the lens depending on camera model).
It's kinda like camera calibration profiles - there is a separate Adobe Standard profile for every camera, and in many cases, it's identical to that for other cameras, but in some cases, it's different.
PS - I think Eric Chan is the only person likely to give you a definitive answer here, but maybe some other savvy user knows..

  • Canon FD 50mm 1.8 Lens Profile for Canon 60D

I've created a lens profile today for the Canon FD 50mm 1.8 on a Canon 60D using the Fotodiox adapter.  I sent it to Adobe for posting publicly.   If anyone would like to download it in the meantime you can find it here:
    Please click this link
I might have messed it up.  It's my first time creating a profile and seemed to work fine for me in Lightroom.  Let me know if there are any improvements to be made. I used f5.6 since that seemed to be the sweet spot on the lens and the imager was about 5 feet from the chart.

JPG lens profiles are distinct from RAW lens profiles because cameras can fix things with the camera-produced JPGs that the lens profiles also fix and you can get double-corrections by using a raw lens profile with a jpg, but it depends on the capabilities and settings of the particular camera.
If you are sure your camera isn’t correcting geometric and vignetting issues with your JPGs, then you can hack the lens profile you downloaded to use it with JPGs, by editing the .lcp file with a text editor and change the flag indicating it is for raw files from True to False.  I forget what this flag is called, exactly, but it is obvious and near the top of the files.
On Windows, the lens profiles are downloaded to:
    C:\Users\--username--\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\
AppData is a hidden or system folder so you’ll need to unhide such folders in the folder options in Explorer or just type in the path an hit Enter in the address area of Explorer.

  • Lens profile for Canon 28/1.8 - already installed in LR4?

Hmm, the explanation of lens profiles and how to add them is a little confusing.
When I look here in Adobe's own list of supported lenses, my new "Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM" is listed there:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/lens-profile-support-lightroom-4.html
Does that mean that profile should already be installed in LR 4? (I am running 4.4)
The profile is not showing up in Lightroom for me. (I am shooting JPEG.)
I downloaded the lens profile downloader, and found a profile for this lens, but is that the official Adobe profile for the lens? I installed it but it still doesn't work for me because it is for RAW only.
    Sorry for the newbie question.
    thanks in advance,
    Paul D.
