Leopard cannot be installed on MacBook Air

I have not been able to install Leopard on my MacBook Air because of an error message "Mac OS X cannot be installed on "Macintosh HD", because this disk cannot be used to start up your computer." I have gotten this message when trying to install Leopard via remote disk. I used the disk utility to run a disk repair and no problems were found. I am not sure how to resolve this problem.

Do you have the Ethernet attachment for the MBA? If so, the Install will go much faster.
1. Insert the Snow Leopard Install Disk into the remote computer (if the remote computer is not running Leopard, first insert the original disk that came with your MBA and install the Remote Disk app, if you haven't already).
2. Attach by Ethernet cable.
3.Turn off Airport on both computers, and activate Remote Install OSX on both computers. This is found in Applications/Utilities. Follow the instructions.
4. ON Restart hold down the Option key.
Sorry if you've done this already, but if you haven't, give it a try.

  • Snow Leopard will not install on Macbook Air--have spent days on this!

    Hi, all!
I have tried almost 10 times to install the Snow Leopard upgrade to my MacBook Air via the remote disk and it has either frozen, quit, or disconnected each time (freezing is the most common occurrence). It takes 5 or more hours to get to that point. The computer with the disk in it is a MacBook (Intel), and both computers have plenty of space available and are running on the same secure wireless network, so there shouldn't be a problem. (I have installed applications between these two computers before.)
This is incredibly frustrating, so any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Lisa

It's highly likely that your wireless network is the problem. Normally I'd recommend grabbing a couple pieces of CAT5 and hooking both machines up via wired network temporarily but that's not an option with the Air.
You could try at least connecting the MacBook via wire, eliminating at least half the wireless contention (turn off the wireless on it to be sure you're using the wire). Since you've already tried 10 times, an 11th probably isn't out of the question.

  • Network Glitch During Install to MacBook Air Crashed Air - HELP

I was installing Snow Leopard on one of our MacBook Air computers using the DVD sharing on my MacBook Pro 17. There was a glitch in the network, probably from one of our many power drops on FPL, which interrupted the signal on all the machines in the network. The Air restarted itself, and is now in the greyed out screen of death, asking me to restart the computer, which only reproduces the screen of death, because it was only about 50% complete on the install when the network.
I was trying to figure out how to create a virtual disk on a hard drive to attach to the unit and try booting off of that. It isn't as easy as it used to be.
    Any suggestions?

I have a 2008-2009 mac book pro (The kind that's all silver, no black), It's currently running 10.5.8. I have a snow leopard disk, and the computer sees it. Then when I go to start begin the installation I get "Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer." I want to upgrade and I don't want to just go ahead of myself and screw up my macbook, so please give me a hand some one?.
    Thanks

Just wanted to share with you 2 more reasons it might be.  Tech support was going for the hard drive set up being old.  That was one reason they wanted me to reformat.  So a few more ideas to throw in here.  You can go here and read it.

  • Leopard cannot be installed?

I was trying to install Leopard (because it's supposed to be better than Tiger), but when restarting, using the boot CD, everything works fine until after the language selection window, in which it says that Leopard cannot be installed. Can someone give me a list of reasons of why this might happen?

I am trying to install Leopard on my Power Mac G5. I am currently running 10.4.9 I have 2 hard drives installed - a Mac and a Hitachi. I have the retail Leopard install disc.
When I insert the Leopard install disc I don't get beyond step ONE! I double click on 'restart' and the Leopard install disc spins away in the DVD drive but after letting it run for 1.5 hours all I have is a gray screen with the pointer in it. The pointer moves with the mouse so this isn't a true freeze - I think you might call it a 'hang'. I.E. I never get to the 'choose location' screen. I have verified the permissions on my hard drive.
Can anyone tell me what's up?
    THANKS to all.

  • I cannot boot my 2012 Macbook Air 13" from external USB 2.0/3.0 drive.

I just purchased a new 2012 MacBook Air 13" with 8GB ram and 256Gb SSD. I have clones of my 2011 MBA drive made with Superduper on both a USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 external drives. The USB 2.0 drive enclosure contains the OWC Aura 256GB 6G SSD that used to be the internal drive for my 2011 MBA.
I cannot boot my new 2012 MBA from either external drive. When I try to do so, the MBA displays shows a gray circle with a line through it.
I can boot my MacBook Pro 2010 and 2007 Mac Pro just fine with either USB external drive. So, it must be something up with compatibility with the new 2012 MBA. All of my Macs are running 10.7.4 with all of the latest upgrades available as of 6/24/12.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Bud James

I have a drive I had been using in a 2007 MacBook that I would like to "upgrade" to a compatible version of 10.7.4 (build 11E2705), but I am having trouble finding a way to get the version of the OS on the drive without affecting the data on the drive.
I had hoped that booting from the Recovery partion on the SSD would allow me to "Reinstall 10.7" to get a compatible version, but the drive still can not boot the 2012 MacBook Air.
I may try cloning next, moving directories I want to keep to the root level of the target drive, but I wish there was an easier way to "refresh" the install of the OS to a newer version for new hardware.
I also need to find a way to "refresh" the USB drive I have for installing 10.7, to make sure it has the ability to boot new hardware, since the original 10.7.4 USB install clone does not boot the newest laptops.

  • Cs3 problem installing on Macbook Air

I am tring to install my copy of CS3 onto a new Macbook Air running OS X 10.8.2
I get this error message soon after starting the install.
"Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance".
I have tried to install from the DVD via Air Disc. I copied the DVD to a memory stick and tried to install that way too. Same error both times.
I called Adobe help and they said that they couldn't offer advice as the software was too old. The guy did recommend trying to install under a new user account. Same error message again.
I don't want to have to buy a new version that I don't really need. Has anyone got any ideas or advice.
    Thanks in advance,
    Wayne van Wijk

Please stop copying the install files from one computer to another.  The issues you are currently experiencing is primarily caused by the use of the Migration Assistant you posted in message #3.
I would recommend you try the following steps:
Run the uninstallers which may be available in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers.
Run the CS Cleaner tool to verify the required files have been removed - CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.
Reinstall from the installation files copied to a USB drive using a computer which does have an optical drive.
If you continue to face difficulties then the most expedient option would be to format, run the Migration Assistant only for documents and settings, and then reinstall from the USB drive.  I have seen users spend hours and days trying to recover from the use of the Migration Assistant or some type of transfer solution from one computer to another.  Our applications function best if they are installed cleanly from the installer.

  • Upgrading iMac to Leopard using Leopard disk that came with Macbook Air

I recently go a Macbook Air. I would like to use the Leopard install disks that came with the Air to upgrade my Intel iMac. When I try to install using the Air install disks I get an error saying that the upgrade is not possible.
Not sure if its not possible because of certain configuration restrictions or maybe I'm not supposed to upgrading because of copywrite restrictions.
    Thanks,
    Joel Simkhai

No problem Rodney. I an understand your frustration with the issue.
Hopefully this reminds you that education is probably the best way to combat piracy. The second best way, in my opinion, is to give consumers one of the options what they want - the ability to download software, movies, music, etc without cumbersome restrictions. Probably doesn't make sense for most people to download a whole operating system-but the day is approaching. Personally, I think the future of installed software that needs to be manually upgraded are numbered. Instead we'll probably see the operating system and all needed software customized for the user hosted on centralized (hopefully encrypted, secure, backup-ed and private) servers.

  • Installing on Macbook Air 4,2 - why can I not get this done?

I am trying so desperately to install Arch and dual-boot on my Macbook Air.  I'm not an Arch noob - I promise.  I've installed and loved arch on my old laptop a couple years back but that was not a mac.
I've been here but all it says is that this "works out of the box".  Unfortunately, I can't get that far.
I flashed Archboot to my USB thumb stick using DD and booted into it using ReFind.  I can't remember what the first option was, but I believe it was Arch-something with EFI.  I chose that and I got an error message:
    Failed to open file:  boot\intel-ucode.img
Trying to load files to higher address
    Failed to open file: boot\intel-ucode.img
So, I chose the second option which says (I'm sorry, I'm in my OSX right now so I'mg telling this from memory) something like Arch-something without EFI.  Then I got to the actual install console.  I created some partitions using cgdisk and chose my packages but they all failed to install due to a dependency missing.  I'm really sorry I don't know what that error was.  After I post this I will go back and try again and see if I Can get a screen shot.
Anyhow - This is nothing like my install was on my old PC laptop and I feel like I'm not even sure if I'm going down the right path.  Does anyone know of a youtube video which shows this process?  Honestly, as much as I've used Arch in the past, I truly feel like a dumbass right now but I'm willing to risk my reputation for a rig that runs the sweetest Linux there is.
    Thanks -
Whatever you need, logs, etc... no problem - but tell me where to get them because I'm not sure how to with my system in limbo like this.

Alright, only problem is that the beginner's guide talks about entering things at a prompt - like "# sgdisk --zap-all /dev/sda".  i'm not at a prompt.  I'm in the GUI Archboot console.  Also, I don't see instructions on which partitions to create, what size to make them, etc..  and, I still don't know why the original option in Archboot failed - the one that prompted me that it could not find boot/intel-ucode/img.  It's not that I haven't read the documentation and it's also not that I'm too stupid to figure it out - I feel like I'm on the wrong track. For example, the Beginner's Guide doesn't even mention instructions for Archboot - which is what I'm using.  By the way, thank you for your response.  I don't want to sound ungrateful

  • Did you have buggy Mavericks issue after installing on Macbook Air Mid 2012?

Before I have upgraded my OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 to Mavericks 10.9 it runs so smoothly and no issues or hanging that I encounter. But just this morning when I installed Mavericks, I have the following issues:
1.) When I was adding a book(pdf and epud files) in iBook, the Finder malfunctioned, coz when I browse the books to it's location so I can add some more again, the Sidebar icons disappeared and only the names left. And when I go to the location of the files using Finder, the content is nowhere to be found, just a symbol on the window’s status bar that it is loading or busy on something.
2.) When I go to the Launchpad, when I scroll to left and right to find the apps I’m looking using the touchpad, it's not as smooth as before. It tends to halt on sliding to the other groups of apps, seems like there’s a friction stopping it from sliding smoothly all the way to the next group of apps.
3.) Updating the Apps from App Store seems cumbersome like the iPhoto and iMovie, coz when the internet fails or drops its signal for a while or so, you go back and download everything again, and when you hover the mouse to see the progress of the downloaded app, it shows for example 22mb of 1gb then shifted to 300mb of 1gb then back to 22mb of 1gb then back again. It’s not accurate and going berserk.
4.) And I don't know if it is just me, but the screen profile have changed a bit coz the red color of the Power Point icon seem too red and everything that has a hint of red color seems exaggerated, it’s too bright red. I'm just not sure it might be the GUI style of the Mavericks. . .
Anyway, have any of you experienced these kinds of issues on your Macbook Air Mid 2012?
Hopefully this could be fixed and Apple would seed an update in no time.

Even on my MacBook Pro Haswell (2013) 15 inch retina with a GT 750 2gb.
The Things in Mavericks that really make me :
    1. The Launchpad is buggy when i scroll to the left or right... sometimes it doesn't even respond at all.
    2. Safari and Other Apps Like AppStore freez sometimes, and i need to force quit everytime, because its not           responding.
    3. Bootcamp Windows 8.1 <---- NOT 8 Support (Bad Keyboard- Facetime camera- drivers,
Icons (brightness, sound) are ugly on retina screen) + GPU Drivers i can't update (maybe that's normal).
    4. iTunes is very SLOW when Scrolling the Albums (i know its 2880x1800 and that's heavy for GPU) But it's just     not a good 'Experience'.
    5. Gaming its realy good on this MacBook, but please make the drivers better, i know this GT 750 GPU can do           better.

Hi adobe, i can't install some adobe products.
These includes Photoshop, creative clouds and any trial!
    i already contacted the chat.

I translated some word because i have the Dutch version of my iOS.
for some reason no Adobe product other than flash and the other known ones won't install on a Case-sensitive harddrive.
Can this be solved without resetting the entire stuff?
Or is it possible for adobe to make a update on this?
I don't understand why you would make these restrictions on installation!
    Edit:
If i need to reinstall my entire stuff, how do i do that with a macbook air which hasn't got a cd/dvd drive?
I also guess it deletes my entire HD?
    Any help is well accepted!
i would love to buy/use the PS trial to see wheter i want to buy it or not.

No, Adobe software doesn't support case-sensitive drives:
Error "Case-sensitive drives not supported" or similar install error | Mac OS
You will have to fully reformat/ reinitialize your system and reinstall OSX from scratch. And it's not an enforced restriction, Apple's APIs for this are simply too unreliable and Adobe doesn't use them.

  • HT5634 Boot Camp support drivers install unsupported MacBook Air 11inch

I successfully installed WIndows 7 64bit from a USB on my 2013 MacBook Air 11inch and it seems to function properly. When I tried to install WIndows support software I keep getting "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this compter model" message.  The Boot Camp support site states that this install is supported using Boot Camp 5 (which is the version I used). I've found a few workarounds on-line that mention doing something via the disc in the CD/DVD drive, but I didn't go that route so I am unsure how to proceed. Anyone have any guesses on how to make this work?

This sounds weird to me. I just installed 64x on your model macbook air at work today and everything went off with out a hitch. Perhaps you could try to redownload the drivers from boot camp assistant? I have had issues occasionally with boot camp drivers and redownloading usually works out for me.
