Lexmark Optra S 1250 - Working under Leopard

I wanted to let people know that the Lexmark Optra S 1250 printer can work under leopard (10.5.1). It was quite a (stressful) experience getting it working but here were the essential steps:
1. After installing 10.5.1, reinstall the latest Optra S printer driver.
2. Ensure the printer is connected and powered on - mine is connected using a USB to Parallel converter cable but could also use an Ethernet cable
3. In the 'Printer & Fax Preference pane click the "+" to add a new printer.
4. Let the search for the printer driver complete(by gosh it is extremely slow!)
5. Click "Add" and when the drop-down box starts looking for 'printer options', don't wait (it never completes) but click the "Configure" button. Select your options and then exit.
6. Hopefully the printer now shows up as added on the left side of the Preference pane.
7. Close and then Restart the computer. I couldn't get the printer to respond to print commands (drove me crazy!) until after I decided to shut down and restart the computer.
8. If you still have problems, you may need to go back to the Printer & Fax Preference Pane, control-click on the printer icon in the left side of the pane and select "Reset print system". After that, redo steps 1 to 7.
Good luck
Rudy

Explain #8.
Did you restart after adding the drivers?
If you open the System Profiler, under Firewire or Printers what do yo see?
(Apple Menu/About this Mac/More Info/Firewire or Printer)
If it sees them then you know it's a configuration problem.

  • CUPS printing to remote server doesn't work under Leopard

So i have an ubuntu system running cups 1.2.8 as a print server. i have an epson stylus colour 760 plugged in and configured and working.
i also had a macmini running tiger printing to it fine via ipp. now it didn't occur to me that something as simple (and important) as printing would be severely broken under Leopard. basically, after the upgrade, i can't print at all to the remote cups server.
the symptoms are that the job queue will pause; even after clicking on 'resume', it will start the progress bar, and then after 100%, it will just pause again.

  • Yamaha RP-U200 only partly working under Leopard

I had been cheerfully using my Yahaha RP-U200, a USB sound output device, for audio output on my macintosh under Tiger. It was recognized by the Sound Preference pane without problems. However, under Leopard, I find that only the sound input features of the unit are supported. It is no longer listed under the Sound Output part of the preference pane. Why was the support for the sound output for this unit removed from Leopard? Am I doing something wrong? Please advise how to correct this problem.

You've posted this under the *Mac OS X Server* section of 10.5 discussions,
and it's not at all clear why.
You're likely to get more input (if not a solution) in the non-server section...http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=235
10.5 is a very different operating system, with no guarantees that your device will be supported.
Did you do any testing or check Yamaha's site for info on 10.5 compatibility ?
You might want to submit some feedback at

    and possibly call Apple support
Best of luck with this !

  • Automator workflow no longer working under Leopard

Here's what I had - I use the Sonos music system which has a limit on total metadata. The longer the file path the more data was used. Therefore the folder system set up by iTunes (which I could not get rid of no matter what I tried) would end up using a lot of the data limit.
I created an Automator task that did the following:
    1. Looked through my iTunes Music folder (on an external hard drive) for any folders.
    2. Took the contents of the folders and moved them to the iTunes Music folder.
    3. Searched through the iTunes Music folder for the now-empty subfolders
    4. Moved these empty subfolders to the trash.
Using Leopard's Automator, I tried running my old workflow and got several error messages. Worse, it appears to have deleted my old workflow (can't find it anywhere) - whether or not Automator deleted it or I did accidentally, I no longer have it.
Trying to replicate the old flow, I simply cannot put together instructions that work. I can't seem to empty the folders out, so that the folders in the trash are filled with the songs. Once I even accidentally moved the whole iTunes folder into the trash. I can't get the last "move to trash" command to work without an error message though it seems to actually work no matter that there's an error message.
This shouldn't be too hard, but maybe I'm forgetting something simple. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Stu

    Adam,
Numbers 3 should be free if you had it on your machine before (you were using Numbers 3 before, right?).  In App Store you might try clicking 'Account' under Quick Links and Reset all warnings for buying and downloading. And, if necessary, also contact Apple to get that charge reversed.
I can't reproduce the script problem here. The fact that the Paste and Match Style is greyed seems to suggest that your copy of Numbers thinks there is nothing in the clipboard... Are you sure you don't have one of the many clipboard enhancement type applications on your machine?
To test that you could try manually copying text into the clipboard (from say, TextEdit) and check to see if Numbers accepts a paste.
Another thing to try: run the script from AppleScript Editor to see if you get the expected results from there.
And also try this:  Open Terminal and at the ~ prompt type this command:
        date +%H:%M
It should respond immediately with the time in 24-hour format.
If you do get the time as expeced and you can't the the original script to work again,  then try the script below, which avoids the clipboard.
    SG
    tell application "Numbers"
set t to front document's active sheet's first table whose selection range's class is range
tell first cell of t's selection range
set value to do shell script "date +%H:%M"
              end tell
    end tell

  • Samson Softpre applet doesn't work under Leopard

I am a podcaster. I bought the Samson C01U microphone last year as I was told at that time it was the best in the entry-level for someone that was considering podcasting. There's an applet that is offered by Samson that allows Input Level Meter, Volume control, High-pass filter and Phase Switch. Every recording sounded great when I combine this applet with GarageBand.
Recently, I switched to Leopard and the applet doesn't work anywore. Worse, recording audio with that mic gives me radically inferior quality. When I asked Samson about that matter, the support tech guy told me that there was no intention on porting this software on the new operating system, with the following: "The Soft Pre applet is merely a volume control. There is no difference in sound with or without the Soft Pre. All Samson USB mics were designed to be fully operational without the Soft Pre applet."
I've googled the matter several times with no one else noticing the matter but myself. Christoph Drösser on a previous discussion told me that he had no such problem, but the difference between his setup and mine is that he upgraded to Leopard while mine was a fresh install. Anyone else in a similar situation?

    Hi,
I had the same problem. I use an external monitor. It seems that the Applet simply disappeared after using my monitor.
I opened Samson SoftPre, turned on my external monitor! Eureka. Here is my Applet. I moved it in the middle of my desktop to make sure it would not hide again. Once, you get it back make sure to either close the Applet before quitting the external monitor.

  • Anyone have an eSATA hard drive dock working under Leopard?

    Hi,
I've been wanting to get one of these new hard drive docks to mount bare drives for backup purposes.

Has anyone gotten one of these (or another; there are several flavors) working on an Intel Mac Pro running Leopard. I was planning on the FormTek SeriTek/2SE2-E eSATA card.
    Thanks!

Basically, never heard or seen that gadget, and I'd avoid it.
FirmTek is good. Pricey but good.

  • IWork absolutely refuses to work under Leopard

So, I'm working on an Aluminum iMac, brand new, Leopard preinstalled. Works pretty well. Next, I serialize iWork...and it noWork. It will bounce several times, then pop up a crash report with an uncaught exception every time. This happens regardless of 10.5 or 1.5.1, regardless of whether iWork has the x.0.1 patches. I have reinstalled iWork, reinstalled OS X, tried installing in a different profile (which sort of worked, but it prompted for a reinstall, then ceased working after the reinstall), combed through the User/Library and /Library folders trying to manually uninstall everything related to iWork, combed the support forums and Google, tried the Spell Catcher uninstaller, ran diagnostics, ran disk repair utilities...nothing. Nothing I do will make iWork run on this computer. I've just about had it. Apple's quality control has been slipping seriously lately as I know I'm not the only one seeing this issue. What the heck is going on here?

Spellcatcher was never installed. All migrated data came out of OS 9. The only things transferred to the fresh installation were:
    Mail settings and inbox
    Printer prefs
A few applications and desktop data, but none opened/run
    Safari bookmarks, prefs, etc
    Downloads folder
    Documents folder
Again, nothing else was run, and all three apps have the exact same crash. In the crash dump just before the exception is caught, it looks like a menu initialization is taking place. Dunno if that's part of it or if the thread has another process in it that doesn't get reported before it barfs.
One thing I will try next has to do with Appleworks. The user data has the Appleworks app in it and numerous files. When first pulled over, they're blank doc files. After the reboot, they have the Appleworks logo. I can't see how this could screw up iWork without ever running anything, but it's about the last idea I've got.

  • Localhost access not working under Leopard

When I attempt to set my browser to a URL like:
    http://localhost/~AllenW/UnityByAW/index.html
I get a message telling me, "Forbidden: you do not have access to blah-blah on this server."
Yet, if I boot back into Tiger and try the exact same thing, it works fine. Same user (AllenW) in both cases. I have no other trouble with file permissions.
    Any suggestions, anyone?

This one had me losing some hair for a while, too, but I got it running again, after of course doing everything recommended here -- the problem seemed to be that apache was looking for its log directory, and there wasn't one. (I figured this out while trying to read the ErrorLog, which should have been the first thing I did, but live and learn.)
So, in the finder, Go > Go To Folder, and type /private/var/log.
There should be a folder called apache2 in that directory. If there's not, that's a problem (although I wouldn't dare assume it's the only one).
To make sure, check out the system log by double-clicking on the file in the directory called system.log. When I did that with the web server (supposedly) running, I saw this:
Jan 4 20:42:32 Hatter org.apache.httpd[1028]: (2)No such file or directory: httpd: could not open error log file /private/var/log/apache2/error_log.
Jan 4 20:42:32 Hatter org.apache.httpd[1028]: Unable to open logs
    Jan 4 20:42:32 Hatter com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[1028]): Exited with exit code: 1
Jan 4 20:42:32 Hatter com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
Jan 4 20:42:42 Hatter org.apache.httpd[1029]: (2)No such file or directory: httpd: could not open error log file /private/var/log/apache2/error_log.
Jan 4 20:42:42 Hatter org.apache.httpd[1029]: Unable to open logs
    Jan 4 20:42:42 Hatter com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[1029]): Exited with exit code: 1
Jan 4 20:42:42 Hatter com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
over and over, every ten seconds, for as long as the web server was active.
To fix that, just create that directory. Turn off the webserver, then from terminal:
    mkdirhier /private/var/log/apache2/
    and restart the webserver.

  • Using Encore 3 Under Leopard 10.5.4

I have recently purchased the Adobe Production Premium package and successfully prepared several Blu-ray and standard definition DVD's using Encore 3. However, whenever I attempt to output any of these DVD's to Flash Video by selecting Build>Output to Flash from within Encore 3, my menus transcode, but when Encore gets to my timeline video, the progress bar goes to about 20% almost instantly and remains there forever. I have tried several different types of video files including short Quicktime movies created in Final Cut Pro as well as other formats in the Encore 3 timeline. The result is always as given above. When this happens, I finally have to Force Quit Encore 3 because selecting cancel on the transcode give me an endlessly spinning beach ball.
I am running Encore 3 (latest updates installed) on an 8-core Mac Pro (Early 2008 model) with 12 GB of RAM and under Leopard 10.5.4 (latest version with all updates installed). I have successfully transcoded these timelines that seem to freeze Encore 3 using MPEG SlipStream so I know the files are OK.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there any solution to the problem? Does output to Flash simply not work under Leopard?
I have posted this problem on both the Adobe Encore User Forum and written to Adobe Tech Support. I have received no response from Adobe.
Thank you in advance for responding.
    Tom

Since no one replied, I can now confirm that the failure of Adobe Encore CS3 to successfully build a DVD to Flash Video is a known problem which has been confirmed by Adobe Technical Support. The feature works perfectly under Windows XP or Vista and it did work in Leopard on an earlier version of Quicktime, specifically Quicktime. specifically Quicktime 7.3.1. However, under the latest version of Quicktime (7.5), the Build to Flash Video feature in Encore CS3 has been broken. I have provided detailed feedback to Apple on this issue. One can only hope that in a future release of Quicktime, the problem will be corrected.

  • Updating FREE version of iPhoto to work with Leopard?

Recently upgraded our iBook G4 to Leopard. Now, the System says iPhoto 2.04 (free version) won't work with Leopard. None of the iPhoto upgrades avalable (4, 5, 6) work as upgrades. In the iPhoto discussion, others said the only option is to PAY for iLife '08.
Is that true? I have iPhoto v5.04 on my PB G4, and it works under Leopard. I never purchased iLife.
    Suggestions, please

I don't know for sure about iPhoto 2's (in)compatibility with Leopard, but if that part is true, then you will have to pay for the upgrade.
iPhoto 2 is over five years old. Besides the fact that the current version is WAY more advanced, I have to say that any software that only makes you pay for an upgrade one time in a period of almost six years is a tremendous bargain.

  • Outputting a DVD To Flash Video in Encore 3 Under Leopard

This topic is indirectly related to Final Cut Pro 6 (since it is the source of my Quicktime movies in Encore 3) and I post it here because I have had no luck getting any responses on other forums including the Creative Cow and Adobe forums.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there any solution to the problem? Does output to Flash simply not work under Leopard?
I have written to Adobe Tech Support. I have received no response from Adobe. I feel that someone on this forum must be using Encore 3 (since it is one of the few ways of getting Blu-ray DVD authoring on the Mac) and has tried to output the DVD as Flash video from within Encore 3. I am simply trying to determine (1) if this is a known issue when running Encore 3 under Leopard; (2) if there is any fix to get Output to Flash working from within Encore 3.
Thank you in advance for responding.
    Tom

    David,
My hat is off to you for persevering with Encore 3 and getting it to output flash video. AFter reading that you had gotten it to work, I was inspired to try once again. This time I encoded my timeline to DVCPro HD by exporting the FCP project to Compressor. I then took this timeline (an 11 minute video) into Encore 3 and tried to build a flash DVD. I have a main menu and scene selection menu, and they both transcoded fine in about 20 minutes, but once again when Encore got to my timeline, the progress bar moved to about 1-2% and simply stayed there. After 7 hours I finally gave up and canceled the transcode which had never progressed any further and did a Force Quit on Encore.
I noticed in doing the above, that during the transcode of the menus Activity Monitor shows my cpu is reading 170-190 and varying as you would expect. Once Encore hits my timeline and begins the transcode of that, the cpu drops to 100 and remains there with no real sign of activity.
Can you tell me if your DVD that you successfully output to flash with Encore 3 had chapter marks in it? I am wondering if they could be the trouble. Some people have indicated that they solved the problem by going back to an earlier version of Quicktime. I am using version 7.5 of Quicktime, which is the latest version. Can you tell me what version of Quicktime you are using on the Mac that succeeded in outputting to Flash video using Encore 3?
    Thanks again for your help.

At a local users group meeting one of the members said that he could not get his Kensington mice and trackballs to work under OS 10.5. I have the Expert Mouse (trackball w/ turbo ring). Does anyone have experience with these devices working or not working under Leopard? Thank you!

    Yes.
I've got a Kensington Turbo Mouse Pro (trackball with 4 large buttons around the ball and 6 small programable buttons above the ball near the cable) that was working fine in Tiger.
I upgraded to Leopard and it wasn't working right, so I downloaded a new copy of their driver (I think it was dated 2006). It wasn't special for Leopard, but I thought I'd try it.
Not only did it work, but my button preferences survived and it's working as well as it did with Tiger. All of my buttons are programmed for keystrokes and they work well in what ever program I'm running.

  • Cannot get Logitech ClearChat Comfort USP headset to work on Leopard :-(

    Hello,
I upgraded to Leopard from Panther recently and have had nothing but problems ever since. I have become a part time computer tech support person (in addition to my full time day job). To make Leopard work smoothly on my Powermac G5 is an endless struggle....
The current struggle is trying to get my brand new Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB headset to work with Leopard. Googling this issue is bringing me very bad news: that Logitech and Apple do NOT communicate or cooperate, and each company refers frustrated end users to the other company for help--to a problem that has no solution.
Is it in fact true that all USB headsets now don't work on Leopard!? I find this unbelieveable if true--given the zillions of humans using Skype, for example, and how heavily relied upon is communicating internationally or long distance via Skype on a PC or Mac. Why can't Apple and Logitech get their act together and provide drivers and solutions so we can simply use a headset with our Mac?
Right now I have 5 month old (new in my opinion) Logitech headset that somebody recommended I buy to use on my Mac computer--and I can't get it to work, and there does not seem to be any driver for it.
Please if anybody can give me helpful advice, or a solution to this problem I'd appreciate it greatly.
PS: as in interesting sidenote I thankfully have a Sony Vaio notebook. Guess what? All I have to do is plug the headset into the notebook and can away I go to Skypeland, never any problems. Can't say the same about my Mac....always like pulling teeth to get anything to work on this boat anchor
My next computer will be a PC, I'm sorry to say....don't want to be a part-time computer engineer...too much work to do....

Generally, if I see a requirement of OS X 10.4 or later, the device will work under Leopard. Requirements of 10.3 or earlier tend to mean getting the device to work under Leopard is hit or miss.
With that in mind, how did you upgrade to Leopard? Did you use the Upgrade option or the Archive & Install?
It's up to Logitech to make sure their devices work properly with the operating systems, not Apple's.

If it sees them then you know it's a configuration problem.
