LG monitor won't display anything via VGA cable

After updating to Quicktime 7.5 my screen on my LG lcd monitor starting moving up and down when using my mouse. After fiddling with the display controls to lock it back down it no longer displays anything through the VGA cable connected via the DVI adaptor to the monitor.
I am using a borrowed DVI cable to use the monitor, but I have to return that tomorrow. Tried permissions without any luck. Is there any fix for this problem so I can reuse the VGA cable without having to buy a DVI cable. Also, is there any solution to the floating screen problem?

Thanks. That solved the zooming problem. The monitor will still not work with the VGA cable though. Looks like I'll have to get a DVI cable. I had one when I got the monitor but now I can't find it.

  • Mac Pro 2006 won't display anything

    Hi
My mac pro won't display anything. I've had a look at this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573 and one of the first things I did was reset the PRAM & NVRAM. The 10.6.8 install is fully updated. The startup chime plays and fans run normally.
    I have:
    re-sat the RAM,
    cleaned the RAM
    cleaned the inside
removed all the HDDs except the main one
and even used another Raedon 4850 in place of mine.
It starts up in Target-Disk mode fine, I am using it with my iMac now but it is not the same (iMac is only dual core andhas half the RAM) I've tried several screens; DVI, VGA and HDMI all without luck. It's obviouslt out of warranty and I don't want to take it to a Apple store anyway as I ocassionally build & repair computers myself so am fine with trying anything out.
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric.
    Things I could do/ haven't done:
Remove/ replace the Logic Board battery?
    test the power I/O?
    start in Safe Mode?

    Whoa there, sparky !!!
Is there something you aren't mentioning?
Since there has never been a Mac Pro 4850 and you have mentioned this number twice I would like to ask...what aren't you telling us?
Did this computer work fine until one day it quit? Or did you buy/inherit/find it broken or in an unknown state?
Any GPU used in a Mac Pro needs to have EFI on it to do this basic debugging stuff. While PC WIndows BIOS cards can be used if the system is A-OK and gets to desktop, it is basically impossible to use them on a system with issues.
So, if the 4870 has a DVI and a MDP port it is real Apple one and SHOULD work.
If that card died and you have tried replacing it with a WIndows/PC 4850, then you have broken the scientific rule about only changing one thing.
Ideally you would have another Mac Pro to test your GPU in and another KNOWN GOOD GPU to test in your Mac Pro. The EFI thing greatly complicates things, unfortunately. Even a "Mac Pro" video card won't necessarily work if it is for "the other" series of Mac Pro. Ther have been in effect, 2 different Mac Pros as far as video cards go. EFI32 and EFI64. ATI/AMD cards have been largely unaffected by this but Nvidia cards MUST be for right series.

  • 32" SAMSUNG LCD not able to display Macbook through VGA Cable

New 32" Samsung (LA32A650 series 6) not picking up signal from Black Macbook. It's connected via VGA cable (mini DVI to VGA). Using a 5 meter, 15pin VGA cable which seems to work on a 20" DELL monitor (Macbook to Dell Monitor).
The Macbook sees the Samsung but the Samsung does not see the Macbook. Tried having both mirroring on and off...no luck. The PC option on the Samsung is still greyed out. Anybody have any other suggestions? I see in other posts where people are able to display their Macbooks to even bigger LCD's using a VGA setup so it must be possible.
Yes the Macbook is plugged in.
    Yes cables are connected correctly.
Yes the Mini DVI to VGA adapter works fine.
I know with some PC laptops you press Function F5 (or other F?). Anything like that for a Macbook?
What's the ideal display setting for the Macbook? I've dropped the display setting all the way down to 800x600 but still no luck. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or doing it in the wrong order?

    Ok...just an update.
I brought a pc laptop and my macbook to the store today. The 32" samsung LCD in the store did not pick up the signal on either laptops. HOWEVER. We hooked it up to a 42" sony LCD and no problems with the PC or macbook. So, the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter and VGA cable are fine. A samsung service tech will be coming to the house next week. I will post their findings.
My suggestion so far would be bring your laptop and cables to any store before making a decision on which LCD you would like to purchase (that is if you care to use the LCD as an external monitor).

  • Monitor won't display after changing settings

I changed the settings on my Mac Pro and apparently they are not correct for that monitor. The display is blank and now I can't get anything to display in order to reset display settings.
How can I get it to display again?

Boot into Safe Mode, and reset your settings:

  • Java 3D won't display anything

    Hi,
I'm trying to get Java3D demos to run so I can begin developing a game. The problem is I get nothing but a blank white square the size of the intended 3D display. Everything I've tried (the list is long) has had no effect. When attempted through a DOS window I get an endless repeating list of : "wglCreateContext Failed: the pixel format is invalid".
The updated drivers for the ATI radeon 9000 pro (all in wonder) shows openGL (classic) is active but nothing 3D is displayed, everything else in Java (2d, swing components, etc.) all displays normally. I've updated DirextX and tried reinstalling Java3D for that format but no change. I'm not familiar with any 3D graphics programming (yet) and it's difficult to understand what won't display. I have posted a bug report with Sun after searching for similar bugs, but all related bugs just show "closed: fixed". Has anyone had this problem or have any clue what I might try (other than waiting) to resolve this issue? Thanks,
    Jerromy

There are known issues with ATI drivers and java 3D that cause behavior like this. I don`t use direct-X so I can`t sugget anything, except to search the forums at http://forums.java.net/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=70
to see if your ATI card has a workaround

  • Apple IIGS RGB Monitor, does it display anything without a video source?

I have a Apple IIGS RGB monitor no cable or computer to test it with. I just want to sell the monitor at this point. I don't recall in the past if this monitor displayed anything when it was powered on just lit up with when there was no video source. I just don't have the room to keep it and want to test it out. Since I have no way to get video is there a way to be able to test the monitor.
That is does it show raster to something when powered up without a video source. I don't recall what my old monitors did without video. I don't think I remember turning them on without video. Would I assume that is should work if the power light comes on but no picture(no video source) or should it at least have raster(white or some color screen)?
    Thanks again,
    Nick

Thank you, thats what I was afraid of. So it probably works, but I guess I will have to say it powers up and I have no way to test the video source to make sure. Does that sound about right? *I did try to adjust the brightness and contract but didn't see any changes.*
    Thanks again,
    Nick
You're leaving out the most vital part in your summary. You should be able to see change in the brightness if you crank it up. You need to put that in your description for full disclosure.

  • LCD monitor won't display

My Rebel won't display the live view, when I click on the little camera button all I get is a clicking sound.

I never did figure it out. When I do like the Canon instruction book says, it doesn't work. I've just been using it in the histogram mode.

  • Safari runs but won't display anything.

As the title says, all Safari windows seem to have gone somewhere! The app starts but there's nothing visible. Enter full screen and the page appears. Try anything else and nothing at all is displayed. The app seems to be running just fine, right clicking the Dock icon shows a list of open pages, clicking "Show all windows" greys out the Desktop but shows nothing at all. Clicking View and Window options has no effect. I've restarted, but no change. Very odd behaviour, never seen it before. Any solutions?

I tried switching that Resume feature off, shut all apps, restarted, but Safari is still refusing to display *anything* except in full screen mode.
(Resume was proving to be pretty irritating on other apps though, like TextEdit and Preview, so I'm glad to know the off switch is there!)
But this Safari issue is a real puzzle to me. The timing is awful, I need to start accessing my new university course website from today and literally the first time I try this issue appears. Not a complete disaster, I can still open in full screen, but I usually use half a dozen windows at once and being boxed into one is very awkward and not a good start.

  • Spotify Desktop App Won't Display Anything

As the title says, when I open Spotify it doesn't display anything other than the tabs at the top. When I try to click on anything in the tabs it does nothing. I am using Windows 7. Would appreciate any help with this.  Thanks, Andrew

Hi there and welcome to the community,
Where did you download this client? This doesn't look like the original client. More looks like a webplayer iFrame.
I'd recommend to uninstall that version, then download Spotify from this page.

  • When i connect my mac book pro to an external display using a VGA cable and adaptor, the external display splits into several different columns of the same screen overlapping one another. Does anybody have any ideas as to why this happens?

I have used different VGA to mini port adaptors, different VGA cables and connected them to different external monitors and prjectors but the same thing happens. I am starting to think there may be a problem with the macbook itself however, when i have used a HDMI lead and adaptor to external monitors the external display is fine.

  • Since iOS7 update my iPad slows when connected to projector via VGA cable

I use my iPad in class as a teaching resource every day. It's invaluable. However, since I updated it to iOS7, whenever I use my lightning-to-VGA adapter cable to connect my iPad to my projector it a) slows down the iPad to a crawl, and b) shows a black screen on the projector. I must stress, it's an original Apple cable that I paid a lot of money for, so I'm not particularly happy about this development.
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and if there's anything I can do to rectify it?
    Thanks in advance!

I am not using keynote. I am just using the VGA to mirror the iPad... or at least, that it what I have done until now. Maybe the odd SlideShark presentation, or a YouTube video, or maybe to display text on a PDF in Dropbox or iBooks on the WB so all the students can read it together or maybe complete a quiz online using Chrome, Safari or Puffin browsers. Now it doesn't even mirror, and the iPad just slows completely. When I unplug the lightning-to-VGA cable it speeds back up again.
All apps are up to date as far as I am aware. I will be testing it again tomorrow - since the latest update to iOS 7.0.3, as the projector's in my class and I'm currently at home, and will post if there's any difference. I'll also see if a reboot helped, as my iPad's been rebooted over the weekend after the update.

  • Connecting Mac to Plasma TV via VGA Cable

I just got a VGA cable to connect my MacBook Pro (2009) to my Plasma TV. When I did, my screen on my MacBook looked like it went into a ZOOM mode where everything was bigger than normal and did not fit on the screen. Is this normal or is there a way to fix that? I did adjust my TV to landscape mode to view my open application.
    Suggestions?

Open System Preferences/Displays and see what both screens now offer for resolution options, set them both to the best sizes for your intended use. You may have to click the Options Tab then 'Overscan' on the TV panel.

  • VGA output signal is present but my VGA monitor won't display it --- why?

When I connect the iPad to a Samsung SyncMaster 570STFT display (with the Apple iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter) and try to play a movie, the audio plays and the image on the iPad is not updated (which I would expect, since it's supposed to be playing on the external VGA), but the monitor reports "Video mode not supported" (which is what it says when the display resolution is out of range).
I've verified that the monitor works fine at iPad resolution (by plugging it into a Mac Mini and confirming that it is operating at 1024x768).
Is there something unusual about the iPad's VGA output that is incompatible with some displays? Has anybody else run into this problem?

Scan rate and frame rate are different item. VGA is analogue and is based on CRT in which the electron gun scan the phosphors on the screen. Frame rate, as you seem to know, is how many screens there are per second.
If you look at the properties of your video what does it say. Does it play on your iPad?
The tech specs for the iPad say the following. Note that it says:
    "640 by 480 pixels" for MPEG-4
    TV and video
Support for 1024 by 768 pixels with Dock Connector to VGA Adapter; 576p and 480p with Apple Component AV Cable; 576i and 480i with Apple Composite AV Cable
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

  • Imac 2006 monitor won't display properly

The left half of my monitor is fuzzy and black on my 2006 imac.   I have a cable to connect an external monitor.  How do I get the external monitor to work properly.   Right now when I plug in the external monitor, all I can see is when I move the mouse left to right (and off the imac monitor, it continues onto the external monitor.    I am a beginner with all this.

Open System Preferences, click on Display, click Detect Displays, select your external display, and check the box for Mirror the Internal Display.  That should make the external display what the internal display is supposed to show.
You might have to fiddle with Resolutions to get the external display to appear properly (if at all, because it is probably a bad logic board or graphic processor, which will make external display not work properly, and is a very expensive repair).
    Good luck.

  • Preview monitor won't display preview

I cannot get my third monitor to show a preview in PP CC. The monitor works fine in FC7. In PP it's just black. Adobe has not been able to resolve it saying that it may be the video card. I got a response on my last post saying I needed to supply more info so I attached these screen shots. Any ideas?

I suggest that you figure out why it does not show up in the list of displays. Whatever is stopping that from happening is probably stopping Premiere Pro from seeing it.

  • Media Browser in iWeb too big

Hello all, this is my first time so please be gentle. When I open the media browser in iWeb it fills the whole screen making it fairly unusable. In all other respects it's working (showing photos and movies etc) but it's massive. This doesn't happen
