Library oops! HELP Please

Hi;
I installed an HP 'all-in-one' package and long story short ... I deleted most of my personal 'Library'! The main 'Library' is untouched. I have noticed my MacMini is acting differently espite going back and resetting most of my preferences. e.g. Expose is not giving the effects it used to.
Can anyone suggest anything??!

To restore the original contents of your library, open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following commands:
cd "/System/Library/User Template/"
sudo cp -R English.lproj/Library/ ~/NewLibrary/
sudo chown -R shortname ~/NewLibrary/
if your primary language is English. When you run the second command, you will be asked to provide your administrator password. In the third line, replace shortname with the short name of your normal user account. Once this is done, open your home folder, rename the item named Library to something else, and then rename NewLibrary to Library. Most of the contents of the User Template folder are folders. Pacifist will not do this because the name of your home folder isn't known until you set up your account after installing Mac OS X.

Sometimes a restart can fix this issue, but sometimes you have to fix the iTunes Library.itl file.
Try quitting iTunes, renaming the itunes file "iTunes Library.itl" to "iTunes Library Old.itl"
then open itunes again
This should generate a new library file.
From this point you can try two different avenues.
1. Re-add everything to your library by going to the iTunes file menu, and selecting "add to library"
2. You can try deleting the iTunes Library.itl you created, changing the name of the old file back to iTunes Library.itl

All of my music has disappeared from my library! Help please!

So I get onto my family's home computer to update my iPod when my whole library is empty. I've looked all over the web for help but for some reason my iPod won't appear in the My Computer folder. I had music that I had purchaced from the iTunes store that is also missing, which I was hoping I could rescue.
I have a 1st generation nano, 9.0 iTunes, and a have a Windows XP computer, if that helps any.
I hope you all can help me! I'm kind of a newbie with iTunes stuff. D:

For some reason when i shut my iTunes down the next time i open it all of the songs have gone from my library. I can restore them from my itunes music folder but i do not know why this is happening and its really starting to annoy me. Any help please?????

That happens when the itunes database file doesn't get saved properly. By design, if itunes can't find a valid database file, it makes a new blank one.
iTunes Library.itl is the name of the file.
Is this on a Sony Vaio? There is a well-known bug with some bad sony software that erases the itunes database file. There are also problems with some ant-virus/security software packages not letting itunes save that file.

"Look for libraries to share" does not appear in the Shared pane under preferences. I'm trying to see my fiances shared library. She can see mine. I have selected share entire library. Help please!

Cannot see my fiance's library but she can see mine. Checked all appropriate boxes to share entire library. Help syays to check under Shared which does not even appear anywhere. It also said to check the "Look for share libraries" under shared pane which also does not exit in that pane. I am Windows 7 and she is Macbook. Thanks

I'm using an Airport Extreme, and I'm not aware of UPnP settings in the Airport Utility.
On the Mac, I set up a Parallels Vista instance in bridged mode and verified that I can see the other Vista PC share folders, so I know that the Vista PC has been set up correctly.
Additionally, as mentioned before, I switched DNS Servers several times, but settled on an alternative Rogers DNS to avoid their awful failed lookup ad page (64.71.255.202 if anyone needs it).
I also tried adding the Vista PC IP to my Mac hosts file, which oddly showed the Mac on the Vista side, but nothing on the Mac side.
I also goofed around in the smb.conf file with some settings, but alas, nada.
The only thing that might explain why the Airport Express network (Vista, XP) provided me with shares in the sidebar and not my own Airport Extreme network (just Vista) could be that it's a master browser issue. I saw a couple of posts about this.
If the Vista machine is the master browser, nothing will show in the sidebar, but if XP or a Mac is the master browser, then the sidebar will show shares. I don't have a way to verify this as I'm not sure how to force one machine to be a master browser over another. I'm suspicious if this will do anything as I've found other posts saying exactly the opposite scenario.
Is there anyone out there that has had a network, possibly with Airport Extreme, one Mac (Leopard), one Vista PC, and Vista share is showing in the Finder sidebar?

Want to use Mac's for public access in public library -- NEED HELP please.

We have a grant to replace all of the computers in our small town public library. I would like to be able to consider Macintosh computers (would Love to, actually) but have not been able to find any information about how to do that.
Biggest issue is "access management". We have a system for PCs that logs on a patron by using their library card number and a PIN. That system then allots them an hour or two to use the computer, times them, warns them when time is running out and so on, and it also manages printer access and charges a few cents per page to print.
We need that for Macs. The software maker gets all attitude about "we have 2000 libraries with PC's and Zero with Macs." ARGH!
Help help help.
Also... please point me to anyone at Apple that knows what a public library is and would like to help us overcome this attitude problem.
We have a grant and can buy the computers. We just need some help to get it done.

I've never setup such a system, but given that other features I've been able to ask about and get specialists to help me, suggest that's probably the most logical course to go.

Really need help...can't get my old songs to reload onto my ipod. The only songs that will load are ones I have purchased recently on my iphone. I can see all my music in my library. Help please!

Hi everyone..I really need some help! My computer went in for repair and cleaning. The music in my itunes library at the time was backed up on discs. I had not resynced my ipod touch with computer since that occurred in May of this year. Since then I have purchased an iphone and some new music was purchased as well. My phone has the new music (which is about 100 songs). Yesterday I decided I was ready to get everything organized and put all my music on my ipod and my apps on my phone. I have, as it would appear, reloaded all my music back into my library (a little over 1000 songs) as I can see the music and I can open and play it through itunes. I have resynched my ipod touch. All the music that was on my ipod touch has now been taken off and the only music that synched with it is the music I have purchased since I bought my iphone (only about 100 songs). Can't get all music on my ipod at all. Additionally, my account is not recognizing the touch as one of my devices. Any help at all would be appreciated!

You can contact Apple and request a 1-time redownload of your lost purchases. Of course, they prefer you follow some of these recommendations on backing up your purchases.
I think the e-mail form on this page is the best place to start for requesting the replacement download.

For some reason all my songs are not associated with the actual song in my library, need help please

All of sudden songs in my library on my macbook are not associated with the actual song. However, everything in the icloud on my iphone 4gs is working perfectly. Any help appreciated

Itunes Stop When It Gets to Videos in My Library. HELP PLEASE.

This is my first time posting a message on this board. I have a problem and I was wondering if you all would be able to help me with it. Thank you beforehand.
I have Itunes 7 (the newest version of itunes)I tried clicking in one song expecting itunes to then play all of the songs following the song that I clicked to automatically play and it does so UNTIL it gets to a video (ANY/ALL videos) in my library and it just stops.It does not skip the video and go on to the next audio song or anything. It just stops playing.
I then tried to click the reversing arrows on the botton of itunes (to repeat playlist) and that did not help. The same problem described above happened.
I then came on itunes and read a post about itunes stopping at the end of songs. Although it was not precise to my problem of itunes stopping once it gets to "a video" in my library while on continous play mode, I looked at it anyways, and there was a suggestion to turn off "crossfade." I tried that and it did not work. The same problem described above continued to happen.

For Mac & Windows, you can use the free MPEG Streamclip to convert video in the Apple supported format.

Big Problem With Corrupted Image Library - Need Help Please

I recently updated my Aperture 2 (2.1) with the latest update. Upon doing so, most images in my library now show up in the 'ole maroon box with the message "Unsupported Image Format." This only began after the update. I've spent hours reading threads on here, but no real solution can be found. I've spent a few hours on the phone with Apple Support and in my local store at the Genius Bar. What they're telling me is that my library file has become corrupted. That my preview/thumbnails have become "diconnected" from the actual full size image file. I've tried holding down option + command while starting Aperture in order to "rebuild" it. That's made matters worse in that most, but not all, of my previews/thumbnails now are not showing up. When I go into my home folder and right click on the aperture library icon and keep burrowing in until I get to each image folder, everything seems to be there: the original RAW file, the preview file, the thumbnail file, the edits/changes files. I can even drag the original RAW file out and re-import it and then its fine. But I can't seem to also drag out the edits/retouching/changes. So even if I take each of my 1,300 images out one by one and reimport them, I still lose some 300+ hours of retouching. I can't even bare the thought of this. Does anyone know what the heck is really going on and whether there is some kind of fix for this? I'm just trying to get my library back to where it was before all the trouble started. Unfortunately, I do not have a back up from before I updated the software. Oh, we also tried removing Aperture and reinstalling to go back to 2.0, but the same problem is still there. Lastly, I cannot export any "versions" or "masters" in order to print, upload or email the images. So I'm really stuck here.

Welcome to club. This just happened to me also in a very similar fashion: Upgrade - upgrade works for awhile - and then the maroon screen and unsupported file message.
At least you are still somewhat functional. Very quickly the problem spread to my non Aperture JPEGS (I use Canon software to download from two Canon Cameras and then import into Aperture). At first all was ok with these files despite the issue with Aperture. Then they are started having the same problem once I shutdown the computer and restarted. This quickly spread to killing Aperture where it would not start at all. Then I lost Microsoft Entourage due to a corrupted data base. Rebuilding this data base via Disk Utility Verify and Repair Permissions made Entourage workable (but I lost my data and setup - it created a new instance.
Two calls to Apple made everything worse as every time we went back into Disk Utility, we would only fix problems to have them re-appear when the laptop was restarted.
Went to Genius Bar (twice). They archived and did a reinstall. They had to do this twice. Everything now works except for Aperture which will not launch at all.
Genius Bar told me to use Time Machine to reload Aperture. Three tries using three different backups have now resulted in nothing. I am about to try a clean install using my Aperture Disk. I will report back on this.
One thing I noticed before all this started - I had done a bunch of usual weekly software updates about two weeks ago. I was going on a trip so I let everything run (no issues). Time Machine did all the usual things including giving me the really useful message that my BackUp Disk was now full (meaning it is wiping old versions out). However, I then went to shutdown the machine and FileVault whirled for over 30 minutes before it allowed the machine to shutdown. Usually this is under 3-5 minutes if that long. FileVault has yet to make a re-appearance on any shutdown I have had in past two weeks regardless of changes on HD. Therefore I am wondering if there is a connection here.
I use a MacBook Pro with upgraded memory and HD.

ITunes Library Error - Help Please

Hi All,
I'm new to this forum and have only had my iPhone 4 for a handful of weeks now.
I'm running the latest iTunes software on Windows XP and all has been fine till this morning....I went to open up iTunes and got a message to say that the iTunes Library had an error...of which it saved the damaged file and reloaded the library....however I am missing all my Podcasts/Apps etc.....
I can see the file iTunes has tried to load which is now listed as iTunes Library (Damaged) and the file type is still an iTunes Database File.
I can still find all the Podcasts/Apps/iTunes purchases within the iTunes folders but can anyone assist me with getting my iTunes Library back to where it was?

Many thanks for replying. I have been messing around with it and I found the following solution:
I deleted the new iTunes Library that was created today and renamed the damaged file back to the original name. Once this was done I relaunched iTunes and my library was back to normal.

Moved my library, need help please

I had loaded my music folder into my iTunes library and everything worked fine. A week ago I bought an external hard drive and moved the folder from the internal hd to the external. What do I have to do so that iTunes recognizes the new songs and deletes the songs from the old location so I don't end up with duplicate songs? And when I sync my iPod, it can't find the songs because it's looking in the old location. Will I have to remake my playlist completely?

This worked for me. In itunes click edit, click preferences, click advanced tab
See what the file path is to your itunes music folder location. You can change it by clicking on change and then search for the folder on your new drive.

If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from (as you are advised to do) then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. Just sync. You can alway redownload iTunes purchases by:

Thanks Barney, I tried that but all that comes up in Spotlight are the log files that show the file paths! I don't know how Steam works. Are all the files held by Steam on their server perhaps?
