Dear Support,
I need urgent help regarding License of Oracle 11g. Your quick reply will be highly appreciate.
My Client has Oracle 10g DB Server and Oracle 10g DB client installed. Now we update them on Oracle 11g DB Server.
They have purchased Oracle 11g DB Server. Please confirm that do they also need to purchase Oracle 11g Clients for there user machines.
Also plz confirm Oracle 11g DB Clients is free ware. (As per my understanding Oracle 11g DB Client comes in pack with Oracle 11g DB Server).
Please reply
Thanks

First of all,
This is NOT Support, and this forum is not monitored by Oracle. Your use of the word 'urgent' consequently as insulting and rude, especially as the questions you ask are answered in the license you agreed to, you can read the license yourself.
Please refer to the terms of use for this forum, especially paragraph 4
http://www.oracle.com/us/legal/terms/index.html
If you would have read the license, you would have known the Client is included on the CD with the RDBMS.
There is no need to purchase anything.

Concept of licensing in Oracle 11g
I wanted to understand the concept of licensing in Oracle 11g. We have 1 licensed version of Oracle 11g which is used for production, I want to put up a test instance of Oracle DB also but am told that we have only 1 license.
Please help me whether having an unlicensed copy could affect our audit process or any other consequences.
I hope, my question is clear.
Please revert with the reply to my query.

How to find out which feature is Licensed in Oracle 11G?
Hi,
while reading oracle documentation, i found a feature "Health monitor " which i want to test on my Oracle 11G instance. However, i am not sure if my database is licensed or not for this feature and whether this is a feature which comes along with Enterprised edition or not
1) May i know where can i find out if a given feature is licensed or comes free with enterprised edition?
2) In my database, can i assume all the features given under dba_feature_usage_statistics are licensed?
Thanks

Thanks Rajesh for your quick response.
How can we find out a specific feature falls under which category?
Say Health monitor .. I think it should fall under Oracle Diagnostic Pack.Yes ..
Please read below for details on Options and Packs:

How to confirm license of Oracle 11g
We have taken a billing solution for our telecom business support system in which they use Oracle database 11g as the database. I want to verify the license of the Oracle database 11g if it is really licensed. Please let me know how to do it.
I hope, my question is clear.
Please revert with the reply to my query.

Next thing which comes in is how is the licensing done if a vendor sells his software which uses Oracle as the database. If the vendor sells his software to 20 clients in a year, would that mean that they have 20 licenses. How to know whether the vendor is using a licensed copy or not? I have access to the database and v$license was one of the virtual tables I checked.
RegardsThere isn't any direct link between what license you have and what the database thinks you have, although there are options for the database to contact support directly.
There are different kinds of licenses. If the vendor uses XE, then it is freely distributable, with limitations of size and cpu. The only way to know if other types are licensed is to contact the vendor and Oracle. If the vendor is playing games, this can result in audits and/or lawsuits. Some methods of installation and patching by default install unlicensed options that the dba is responsible for disabling.
It is possible to have a license without support. You need the paperwork to show that you have a license, and additional paperwork to show support. Third parties can provide support in conjunction with Oracle. If you can't get them to show the paperwork, you might need to talk to your legal department. You need support of some kind to get patches.
You need to get this information, some third party support organizations have been known to go out of business. It is a really good idea to get a CSI number and create a support account of your own. -
Is a license required for Oracle 11g installed on private developer box?
Hello,
I wish to install Oracle 11g on my personal computer to test some software that hits a database. Will I be able to install/run 11g on my machine for this use, or will it (eventually) prompt me for a license key? If I need a license, is there a free developer license available? I can't seem to find any info on this.
How is the licensing structured around the 11g "XE" BETA (express edition)? Is there a licensing difference between XE and non-XE?
And finally, is there a good summary of what features are missing from the XE edition? I tried installing 10g XE, and for example, the "DEFAULT TABLESPACE xxx" SQL command was not recognized. I need this 'feature' (as well as others). I'm assuming I'm going to need to install the full 11g release, but I hope there is no license required.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank You.The general license agreement is here - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/licenses/standard-license-152015.html
In short, yes - you can download the software and use it for testing/prototyping.
11gXE Beta license terms are here - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/licenses/ea-license-152003.html

We have moved our applications in a mix environment (DB on Linux and App. Server on Windows) on Oracle 11g.
On the past we have tested the applications and they were working, now seems nothing is ok, it is like the 10g instant client on Windows is unable to communicate with Oracle 11g DB working on XMLDB.
May I ask if someone have seen the same problems?
Testing on Windows all the environment it was all working, but it was installed all on the same machine.

Just need confirmation that the old 10g Java based Enterprise Manager is gone forever with 11g and there is no management console in the 11g client installation (at least I cannot find one). Confirmed. Same as in the Database install.
And after searching the threads ond Oracle documentation, it appears that I can install 11g database on my local pc and then have a dbconsole (not grid control). Please confirm that this dbconsole only points to the specific database installed on the same local pc, and it cannot be used to manage remotely located 10 or 11g databases. Confirmed. The DB Console is tied to one ORACLE_HOME one one HOST for one INSTANCE. The HOST and INSTANCE are used in the directory naming (of all stupidity) and configuration file contents under the ORACLE_HOME.
I am still in the planning stages for grid control installation and would like to use the smaller enterprise manager - java control. But again, there is no such Oracle application for 11g now? I must use grid control to manage multiple databases?Confirmed. Fortunately, the Grid Control is included in the Database license as per the database Licensing manual, and you can put the Grid Control on a separate machine. Since the Grid Control is fed using a single agent for all product (database, and anything else) on the target host, the Grid Control puts on a much smaller footprint on a database machine than even the old Java console.
Note that the 11g Grid Control will be (at least) announced tomorrow by WebCast - check OTN. -
Oracle 11g express --- Wish list --- Match or beat IBM and Microsoft
Oracle's significant competitors IBM and Microsoft have had support for XSLT and XQuery in their express editions for a while. My wish-list for Oracle 11g express is to match it or even beat it. With increasing adoption of XML a lot of innovation is happening. Oracle is a no-show here.
I had to switch to DB2 from Oracle to be able to take advantange of the IBM Db2 express. Along the way, I will end up purchasing their high-end DB2 offering also.
Later ...
/rkI see Oracle in a dilemma here.
Oracle 11g SE One Processor Perpetual costs $5,800 - dillute this over 3 years and you have a VERY GOOD database for a VERY affordable price. For small shops, this is a no-brainer over Standard Edition.
But alas, suppose 11g XE supports 2 CPUs, 2 GB of RAM and 20 GB of storage!
Let's think about it. A fast, robust, mature, fully-featured database - for FREE. But wait, there's more - APEX is FREE as well.
XE and APEX make a killer combo. XE's hard-coded limits are cumbersome, but creative DBAs/developers manage to create impressive solutions nonetheless. Without Oracle making a single dollar in licenses.
Simply put, I think 11g XE with 2 CPUs, 2GB RAM and 20 GB of storage would take away customers from Oracle - those currently buying Oracle 11g SE One Processor Perpetual. OK, XE comes with no support, but still, $0 is less than $5,800. The difference is even more significant in a scenario of economic downturn.
It will be interesting to see how Oracle handles this.
Regards,
Georger

Hi, Oracle's significant competitors IBM and Microsoft, is true.
But Oracle does not seem to care because the niche is selling software. However, when entering the world of the express editions should confront its closest competitors by relaxing the limits on Oracle Database XE, remove certain restrictions to be at the level of competence DB2 Expreess C 9.5 which has no storage limits and uses up 2 processors and 2GB of RAM.
As someone suggested in another thread, it is possible that Oracle Database XE is the leader of the Express editions, but must improve, I think it would be best to enter the world of the MacOS and relax the limits of storage, memory and CPU. We must offer competitive!. -
Oracle 11g Standard Edition + Locator Java API
We have Oracle 11g Standard which includes the Oracle Locator package, but not the Oracle Spatial.
I would like to use the Oracle® Spatial Java API in my java code, but am unsure of the licensing implications of this.
I require some form of java api in order to access the geomettry objects stored in the database. Oracle do not allow the download of the java files seperately. I was unable to find any reference to a 'Oracle Locator Java API'
Could someone let me know what exists in terms of Java API's, what i am entitled to use under the current licensing rules, and where I can download the necessary source/jar files? Thanks for letting me know the location of the jar files, that will at least help me get things going.
I am still concerned about licensing issues, as your reply appears to contradict itself:
"There is no licensing issues if you just want to use Oracle Spatial Java API(sdoapi.jar) with your spatial data in the Oracle 11g Standard DB."
and
"You cannot use some oracle spatial features (PL/SQL packages and their java APIs) in the standard edition."
I could use some clarification on this. I'm currently assuming that you mean I can legitimately use the spatial java API with any features I have available within the 11g Standard DB (i.e Oracle Locator subset of the Oracle Spatial package), but that I can't take that for granted, especially considering how militant Oracle are being over licensing and patents these days. -
Compare two schemas in oracle 11g
Hi All,
Can any one please help me how to compare two schemas in oracle 11g.
Thanks
Edited by: 793914 on Oct 22, 2010 9:33 AMYou can do it with gridcontrol. Look for dictionary comparisons and dictionary baselines.
If you don't have gridcontrol, you can also use SQLDeveloper (free download on otn).
There are two ways to do it with SQLDeveloper.
1) Use Tools->Database Diff. However, you need a change management license to use this functionality. I've never used this.
The free way is to...
2) Use Tools->Database Export. Run it once for each schema and make sure the "Show Schema" option is NOT checked before exporting the schema. Also make sure you don't export data. You can choose which types of objects to export as well.
Once you have the two export files for the two schemas then simply run a diff tool on your platform. Use the diff command line for linux or winDiff or something similar in windows. -
How to uninstall Oracle 11g Database Options?
I've come across a problem. A company that developed an application, installed Oracle 11g EE.
I guess they would use all default options. Some of them are licensed separately, and are not used. So I need to uninstall them.
For example, I see that it is installed "Advanced Compression". I tried to uninstall it from the Universal Installer, but there isn't an option.Good news for my company.
There has never been used "Advanced Compression" and for everything else we are licensed.

Telling us that you are using 11.1 helps. But it is far from a complete description of the environment. What edition of the database are you using? What options are installed? What Enterprise Manager packs are licensed? Is any of this changable? Could you license another option for the database or another pack for Enterprise Manager if that was necessary?
What does it mean to you to "mask data"? Do you want to store the data on disk and then mask the data in the presentation layer when certain people query it (i.e. store the patient's social security number in the database but only present ***-**- and the last 4 digits to certain sets of employees)? Do you want to hide entire fields from certain people? Do you want to change the data stored in the database when you are refreshing a lower environment with production data? If so, do you need and/or want this process to be either determinisitic or reversable or both?

Is it possible to perform network data encryption between Oracle 11g databases without the advance security option?
We are not licensed for the Oracle Advanced Security Option and I have been tasked to use Oracle Network Data Encryption in order to encryption network traffic between Oracle instances that reside on remote servers. From what I have read and my prior understanding this is not possible without ASO. Can someone confirm or disprove my research, thanks.Hi, Srini Chavali-Oracle
As for http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/options/advanced-security/advanced-security-ds-12c-1898873.pdf?ssSourceSiteId… ASO is mentioned as TDE and Redacting Sensitive Data to Display. Network encryption is excluded.
As for Network Encryption - Oracle FAQ (of course this is not Oracle official) "Since June 2013, Net Encryption is now licensed with Oracle Enterprise Edition and doesn't require Oracle Advanced Security Option." Could you clarify this? Thanks. -
Hi Gurus,
I would like to gather input from you, what is the pro and con, advantages and disadvantages for putting Oracle 11g in Virtual Machine (VMWare, Oracle VM, Virtual Box, etc.)
and will there be any licensing issue with this.
Currently we have CPU Based license for our Production and Named User license for the Dev.
thanks in advance for your time.
LieIf you put Oracle db in VMWare then you have a non-certified configuration, and you could be alone (I mean without Oracle support) if you have a problem than Oracle support cannot reproduce in a certified configuration. I would avoid a non-certified configuration for a production environment.
So, two choices :
* go for Oracle VM
* go without VM at all

Help linking oracle 11g and joomla 1.6
Hello
I am currently working on a project which uses Joomla 1.6 and MySQL 5.15. We now need to migrate the DB from MySQL to Oracle 11g R2 and I would like some help in finding a driver between Oracle 11g and Joomla 1.6. If anybody has worked with and successfully connected these two could you please help me out.
Could really do with the help as I need to complete the project soon.
Thanks
Bharat

Well.... It sort of all depends on how Joomla is connecting to the database. Are they using a pre-built framework like PDO or Zend ?
If they are it should be a a relatively easy task to move it to Oracle. If not then you will have to alter their DB layer and replace a lot of the mySQL calls with Oracle calls and add a few. For example MySQL does not parse a statement prior to execution but Oracle does eg:
$oraDB = oci_connect([parms]);
$query = oci_parse($OraDB,'select 'a' from dual');
// If you are binding variables it would go between the parse and execute areas and it is mostly the same as doing
// it with MySQL
oci_execute($query);
$data = oci_fetch_assoc($query);The instant client and the full client do things very differently and connections to the DB server are done differently so you will need to understand those differences and code accordingly.
The OCI_8 php libraries are well established and documented. They must be installed on the server on which Joomla is running.
If your machine is setup correctly this is as simple as:
%pecl install oci8
pecl will take care of pretty much everything including dealing with 32 -v- 64 bit and all you need do is make an entry in the php extension section letting it know the OCI libraries are installed. If not it is a bit more complicated.
The software along with the instructions ca be found here: http://pecl.php.net/package/oci8
You must have either the instant client or the regular Oracle client installed on the server on which Joomla is running.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.htmlhttp://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html
After you accept the license agreement click on "See All" and you will see both the instant client and the full client for the version you require.
It is extremely un-wise to attempt to run any version of oracle on the machine running joomla / Apache. If you do so, then you stand a better then even chance of failure as Oracle does not like to share resources.
Make sure you read the install instructions for the oracle client and pay very close attention to things like environment settings and permissions issues on the php server as these are some of the most common problems. Once the client is installed and the oci libraries are installed things should run very smoothly. The whole php to Oracle chain is very fast and the fact that the db server is remote from the web server will not be an issue as long as the links are fast.
If you have problems get back to us and we will do the best we can to help you sort things out.
