Lightbox using smartshape in Quiz question

Hi,
I'm using one question/quiz slide and would like to create a lightbox to display different comments depending on what choice the user selects.
In the comment lightbox, I hope to allow the user to click a X image to close the lightbox.
The exisiting message boxes do not give the client a look they desire. Are there any other suggestions on alternative message boxes that overlay over the the quiz question?
Please advise.
Thank you!
Susanne

You could use grouped objects that include Smart Shape buttons for the click to close the lightbox.
But you need to be aware that the ON Success or On Last Attempt events only fire in Quiz Questions AFTER the Submit button has been clicked and any feedback captions have appeared and been dismissed.  If you want your lightbox captions to appear after the submit button is clicked, you'll need to turn off the other feedback captions.
As far as having a different lightbox appear depending on which answer the user chooses, that's really only available for Multi-Choice quiz questions, no others (and not even multiple answer questions).  You need to use the Advanced Answer option event to trigger the appearance of the lightbox.

  • .JPGs used in the drop/drag quiz questions

In Captivate 4, can .JPGs be used in drop/drag quiz questions? We need to see if Learners can properly "build up" a sub-assembly of a machine and they will need to know which part fits on top of the correct piece of equipment.
    If not, any suggestions?

No.  Currently no version of Captivate allows you to set up drag and drop interactions natively with images as the drag objects or targets.
However, there are two widgets that can be purchased to do this:

Free trial versions of the widgets can be downloaded here if you want to try them out:

  • Is there a way to do a spelling quiz in captivate using images and not questions as reference.

Is there a way to do a spelling quiz in captivate using images and not questions as reference. Specifically i want have blank lines underneath an image, where the user looks at the image and types the correct letters to fill in the blank. For example a picture of a dog, with this _ _ _ underneath for the user to fill in, or in some cases perhaps having them fill in the vowel like so "d_g".I must have audio with this , as the students will be able to listen to the audio sound out the word phonetially to help them be able to type it!
    Appreciate any advice! Cheers!

    Hello everybody!
This widget is great!! Thank you for that!!
I searched for something like that earlier and made an other workaround:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1912430#1912430
The Javascript did not work in my test. I brought to the "if you reach this slide" feature but it failed.

  • Using Variable in Quizes

OK, I know how to use variable and pass them to other captions.
But when I apply the same method to a Quiz Slide sush as a Likert Slide it doesn't work.
How do I pass a variable to a quiz question?

    Hi there
As Question slides are a different sort of beast, I might expect that in order to do this you would simply insert a Text Caption containing the variable. Then place it where you like.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Quiz questions will not retain format when question is changed.

OK forum folks. I'm working on my first e-learning project and have ran into a problem with question formating. The instructions/help basically tell you to click here and click there. I can easily figure that out. The questions I seem to have are quite a bit deeper.
I have a predefined template which is company approved. I have created master slides in the question pool for both a 4 item match and a 5 item match (I have found if I add a line to the 4 matching line quiz the line spacing and formatting changes). The placeholder questions are essentially non-questions.
I duplicate the master slide in the question pool to maintain the original format (spacing, location, etc.).
I change the placeholder questions on the duplicated slide to the real question (slide is still in the slide pool)
The formatting (font, spacing, locations, etc.) change on the new (edited) questions and require reformatting.I have also tried copying the master question slide to the filmstrip and editing the copied slide questions in the filmstrip. I receive the same results.
Is there are way I can create masters in the current format so I can use the approved templates, edit the questions and not have to reformat the slide after the questions have been changed?
Also, is there a way to lock the formatting of the questions? If I want to add/delete a new question or line to the slide, it would be great to be able to not have to reformat the slide for the change.
I look forward to your answers.
    Thank you.

I am trying to deal with the same issue. The master slides are more about background elements and navigation buttons, but they do not seem to allow for the addition of quiz elements.
I have come up with a workaround that I hope will work. What I am doing is creating a new project that becomes my quiz question layout library (Let's call this Project 2). In this project I add the various types of questions I will be using in my project (multiple choice with three choices, multiple choice with five, true/false, etc...). I get all the quiz elements in place for each type of question (the header, question, submit/clear buttons, review area, etc...).
These slides serve as my Master slides for my actual project (Project 1). I can copy and paste the appropriate layout from Project 2 to Project 1 and then change the questions themselves.
I am sure I will find out the downside of this soon enough...
There is no doubt the creation of masters for quiz questions needs work, actually it needs just to exist!

  • Captivate 7, sequencing quiz question, answers are not reshuffled

    Hello,
I have made a quiz using Cp7. The questions are all sequencing questions. The first time around, the answers are shuffled, as one would expect. Then the quiz-taker puts the answers in the correct order. However, the following times the quiz-taker does the quiz, the answers aren't shuffled! So if the quiz-taker gets Question 1 right the first time, when he or she tries the quiz again, the answers for Question 1 are in the right order when the question first opens.
Does anyone know what's going on here?
    Thank you. Marvin DuBois

Thank you again. And yes, I should make a formal request.
I might just mention that I've found something of a work-around. (This won't be news to you, but others in the same boat as myself might appreciate this.) Note that this works within a very specific context, so it is by no means a complete solution. But here goes.
We run the Cp quizzes in an LMS (and that means, of course, a specific LMS). The solution works in this context. When making up a Cp quiz, I add a regular (non-question) slide after the score slide. On this slide I put a button that opens a webpage via a URL. And this URL is for the quiz itself--i.e. it is the LMS's address for the quiz. Thus, clicking the button simply restarts the quiz all over again, and this takes care of the randomization issues.
This solution has two major drawbacks:
1.The resume option has to be off.
2.The Cp quiz itself cannot keep track of the attempts at doing the quiz (since with each new retake, the counting restarts at '1').
I don't like having to do without the resume function. But in our particular case, the second issue isn't all that important. The LMS itself tracks the attempts at taking the quiz, so this information is always available both to quiz-takers and to administrators/teachers. (On the score slide itself, I simply remove the fields for the number of attempts.)
At the moment, I'm trying to come up with a solution that would allow us to retain the resume function. So far, no luck, but we'll see.
    Best regards,
    Marvin DuBois

  • Extra line after first item in quiz questions

I just started using Captivate 7.  I made a template with some quiz questions and there is an extra line after the 2nd radio button in the templates for multiple choice and true false questions.  Is that normal ?
    Screen shot.

I'm experiencing the same problem, also on Captivate 7.
The alignment is fine on the master slide, but every time I load a multiple choice or true/false question the "B" answer appears like this.
I've tried it with every theme and the same thing is happening. I've also had the program uninstalled and reinstalled and still the error is there.
I've searched on different forums, but no one seems to have the answer.

  • Learners unable to enter answers to quiz questions

I've launched our first course and I'm coming across an issue that I haven't encountered as we tested the course.
I've created the course in Captivate 5.
All of our learners are using their own computers to complete the training, and I have no control over what equipment they are using.
A couple have reported that they are unable to enter answers to the quiz question. For example, it won't even let them click on the buttons for multiple choice answers. Those that have reported the issue seem to have older computers (around 5 years old), but say they've updated to the new version of flash player.
We've tested the module on somewhat newer computers, and we haven't come across that particular issue at all.
What could cause such a problem?
    sanna

I think this is what I will try. After I had a chance to talk to those that encountered the issue they said they had moved backwards in the course.
It never occured to me when testing the course to skip backwards and forwards. Lesson learned.
Now when you say include a 'scored' button, what do you mean?
I already have a 'next' button at the beginning of the course that the learner clicks to get started. It's an image button. I see when I look at the properties for that image button that there is an option to include it in the quiz. Is that what you meant? Set it to be included in the quiz?
Does it make a difference whether or not points are assigned to it, or whether or not it is included in the results?
    Thanks

  • Quiz question formatting

Is there any fix in the works for controlling how Quiz
Manager formats quiz questions/answers? Every time we need to make
an edit and go back into Quiz Manager, we have to reformat our quiz
slides. This is extremely time consuming and frustrating. Please
Adobe, put some formatting controls into the quiz manager (such as
font size), or fix your program in such a way as to not touch the
formatting that we do to our quiz question slides in
    Powerpoint.

I have worked a lot with presenter and have manually formated
the look of the questions after the slide has been generated and
have not ever had an error. I have changed location, spacing, font,
and size and added content to quiz slides, all without incident.
Are you using Presenter 6.2? This may be an issue of using an
    older version of Presenter.

  • Add video feedback to quiz question

There is a presentation demo on the Adobe site called 'Breeze
for Rapid-training' which has a question and when answered, plays a
video. I cannot seem to find any information to do this. how is it
    done?
    Thanks Michelle

Are you sure the feedback is on the same slide or are they
using branching to send you to a choice of slides with video on
them? I believe this is how you'd do it:
First, create a slide continaing you're video.
Then use the hide slide function in powerpoint so that people
won't be able to access the slide unless they go through the quiz
    to get to it
Now craete a quiz question and use the branching feature to
go to that slide with the video
This is a very quick and dirty explanation, so please let me
know if you need more explanation or if you need more detail.
    Best,
    Jon

  • Is there a way I can randomize quiz questions in Adobe Captivate 6 on multiple attempts?

I am trying to find a way in Captivate 6 to randomize quiz questions out of a pool (i.e.; 50 random questions slides are linked to a pool containing 63 questions, I want to allow for 3 attempts).  Things work great witht he first attempt, but Captivate 6 is not generating new questions when I click the Retake Quiz button after failing the first attempt.  Captivate 6 simply gives the exact same 50 questions as the first attempt in the exact same order.  Is there any way around this issue in Captivate 6?  Thank you in advance for any suggestions you have!

Rod, just thinking out loud, and maybe this is too complex...
Could (generic) you insert multiple random-question-slides and then control which slide is viewed based on how many quiz attemps have been made?
    That is..
    Slide 1 - question 1a
    Slide 2 - question 1b
    Slide 3 - question 1c
On first attempt, go to slide 1, skip slide 2 and 3.  On second attempt, skip slide 1, go to slide 2, skip slide 3.  On third attempt, skip slides 1 and 2, go to slide 3.
Could you use the cpQuizInfoAttempts variable to control the slide order with an advanced action?

  • Issue with First Quiz Question

When I try to go back BEFORE answering the first quiz
question, when I move forward again to the first question, it tells
me that "You did not answer the question completely"and it will not
allow me to answer this question or any additional questions. (I
have set the option to use the BACK button in a quiz.) If I answer
the FIRST question, it allows me to go backwards on any additional
questions. Why can't I move backwards before I answer the first
question? Is there something I am missing?

As Mzedella said, my understanding is that backing out of the
quiz (going backwards past the first question) costs the user an
attempt, so if you've only allowed one attempt, the questions are
    considered not answered....
We have a mix of content and questions (not a single block of
quiz questions), and wanted to allow backward movement. We solved
this problem by making the first slide a question. That way, the
user is always in the quiz and they can move backward as much as
    they like.
If you can't think of a good question for the first slide
(often a question about their background knowledge is good), you
can always make it 'are you ready to begin?'. A little clumsy, but
you get the functionality you want.
We further required all questions to be answered, so users
can't skip ahead past unanswered questions. By removing the nav
bar, but including a menu (via skin), users can easily review the
material, but are still required to at least click through all the
slides. This works for our application, but you many want something
    different.

  • How to reveal correct answer in a quiz question

    Hello,
    I am using Captivate 5.5.
Is there a way to allow the user to view the correct answer to a quiz question without having to keep clicking on the different options until they select the right one? I want to allow infinite attempts but equally, if they are in a hurry or just run out of patience, I want the user to see what the actual answer is straight away. Our learners are medics and they often have limited time.
So the sequence could be something like this.
    1. User enters question page.
    2. Selects one answer. It is incorrect and retry message appears.
    3. User selects another answer. It is incorrect and retry message appears
    4. User decides that he/she wants to see the correct answer before moving on. Selects 'reveal answer' and is able to see what the correct answer is.
    5. User moves onto next slide (this could be another quiz question or any other type of slide
In another package I have been using, we can specify a 'reveal correct answer' button which shows the correct answer straight away. Is there something like that in Captivate?
    Thanks....

I think what you mean is that the quiz question's Failure action doesn't trigger until the final attempt and that would never happen if attempts is set to Infinite.  So if you were only incrementing the variable when the quiz question registered final failure then you'd only get one crack at incrementing the variable. yes.  My bad.
However, if you are using Multiple Choice questions, you can also trigger actions using the Advanced Answer Option.  This will trigger an action when a particular answer is selected.  So if you set this for each incorrect answer, you could increment the variable each time they select the wrong answer.
You can also use this same Advanced Answer action to execute a conditional action that first checks the value of the variable and then shows the rollover caption or increments the variable as needed.
Say you create a variable called WrongAnswer and initialise it with a value of 0.  Then you create a Conditional Action called CheckWrongAnswer that looks like this:
If WrongAnswer is equal to 1 assign Wrong Answer with 2, (then on the next line) Show RolloverCaption, ELSE assign Wrong Answer with 1.
This shows the rollover caption after the second attempt resulting in an incorrect answer.

  • Quiz question: Is this possible?

My company is evaluating Captivate for SCORM use.
    My question is this:
Is it possible to create a project course with multiple content sections and quiz questions scattered throughout with the results posted at the end? Keep in mind that the user may quit and come back later to finish the course and remaining quiz questions.
I assume you would use a TOC and bookmarking.  I just need to know if this is even possible.
    Thanks

Quizzes in Captivate are always considered as one quiz, even if question slides are scattered all over the file. That is not a problem.
Bookmarking is normally turned on, and since you will be using a LMS it is the LMS that will take care of that if it has that functionality.
I'm however not sure, should have to test it in our LMS that the Quiz attempt during one session can be continued during a next session. Intuitively I think that CP will send a score after each session.

  • Quiz Questions provide no selectable answers in HTML5 Publish

I am having issues with quizzing, whereas HTML5 format doesn't allow the user to select answers in quiz slides…
I am publishing a Captivate 7 project to two separate LMS' for beta testing purposes.
When I publish the project as HTML5 only, the quiz question appears as well as possible answers, but the form field does not appear, therefore rendering the user completely incapable of selecting an answer.
Publishing the same project as swf and HTML5 renders perfect results. (Quiz slide, selectable answers, and form field all show up and work)
    Any advice?

    I solved my own problem.
I had inserted a background image into each of the question master slides.
When looking at either the master slide or timeline slide, the slide would lokk good. All text and slide objects, including answers, would show up on the slide as they should.
However, once published, the background image would cover the form fields used to select correct answers. This not only prevented the user from selecting an answer, but also caused major issues with audio and CC tracks after the quiz.
