Lightning cable that came with iPhone 5 won't charge

Waited in line since 4am to get my iPhone only to bring it home and try to to restore from iTunes when I find out I got a bad cable. When I plug it into an outlet it won't charge and when I plug (even just the USB end) into my laptop, it gives me an error saying there's too much power in the USB port and auto-disconnects it. My friend let me try his and it worked fine both ways, so it's definitely a bad cable. Too bad they're not carrying them for the next few days....
Hope this isn't a widespread issue.

Same issue. Intermittant charging with the AC Adapter, but did manage to get it set up with a 1st gen MBA. When plugged into the USB port on a new 11" MBA, it either doesn't recognize the iPhone (left USB port) or it immediately shuts down the computer (right USB port). And no, I'm not making this up.
On the phone with Apple last night for about 90 minutes (after ATT for 45 minutes.....that was fun). Was bumped up to real support tech who is "researching the problem" and who is to call me back at 11 am this morning. (You do have to give them some credit for customer support) I've also made a pre-emptive appointment at an Apple store (60 miles away) for this afternoon in case I'm told to pickup a new phone.
Odd that they can build a flawless phone that is clearly the technological bellweather but they can't get the cable right. I also wonder how they can release the phone but not have the cables and adapters ready. I was ready to just buy a couple of cables and call it a day.

  • HT1386 My device is not seen in iTunes with the lightning cable that came with the iPad air.  Is that not a synching cable?

my device doesn't seem to be recognized by iTunes with the cable provided with the brand-new iPad Air?  I am unable to synch. Suggestions.?  Is that cable in the box only for charging?  It is a lightning cable and I did upload the latest Operating systems for both the iPad and iTunes.

    It is a sync cable.
    Try a different usb port.
    reinstall itunes.
    Turn the pc off/on.

  • What is the length of the Lightning cable that comes with the iPad Air?

    Actually have three questions.
    1. What is the length of the Lightning cable that came with my iPad Air? I ask because I might need to purchase a new one.
    2. My current Lightning cable, the one that came with my Air, the end of the cable, the rubber is coming off, it's stretched. Would AC+ send me a new one?
    3. I have an iPhone 5s also, does the iPhone have it's own unique Lightning cable or can I use my iPad Air Lightning cable to charge my iPhone and vice versa, are the Lightning cables universal with the newer products?
    Thanks.

  • HT1476 After update to either iOS 7.0.3 or 7.0.4, my iPhone 4S won't charge. I'm using charger and cable that came with the phone. Nothing else changed.

I'm using charger and cable that came with the phone. Nothing else changed.
I think it was the update the iOS 7.0.4 that I did last night. I woke up this morning with my battery almost drained and the charging function going off and on every few seconds, like it would start charging then disconnect, then reconnect repeatedly.
I've tried restarting the phone and hard restarting the phone several times, but I'm getting really low on battery by now (under 20%).
I've tried cleaning the connector with a little isopropyl alcohol, and blowing it out with compressed air. Though I can't be 100% certain, it's very unlikely my connector died exactly at the same time I was updating my phone. Especially since it appears I'm not the only one with this problem.
And now, after the last hard reset, my phone doesn't even recognize the charger at all, or being connected with the USB cable to my MacBook Pro.
I turned off my phone so when I go to the Apple Store it will power up one last time, but besides that I'm out of ideas.

Just back from Genius Bar and two other people at my table had the same problem. Their 4Ss aren't charging either. One of them had a fried board according to the tech. At least my HW checked out OK. It just won't charge.
The tech tried to tell me that it was because my connector was corroded, which I told him was kind of a weak argument since evidence points to that the update has something to do with it.
They're seeing a lot of these and it looks like they already have a script.
Luckily I had enough juice left to recycle it for like $180, so I picked up a 5S with a new 2 year.
It looked to me like this is going to blow up pretty big. Like class action lawsuit big.
If you have an iPhone 4 or 4S, and you haven't updated it to iOS 7, don't for now. See if a patch comes out that doesn't brick your phone. Or get an induction charger maybe? Don't just update and expect absolutely no problems because too many people are having problems right now.

  • My iPhone cable gave me a warning this morning that it was  not certified to work with this phone, but it is the cable that came with the phone and that i have been using for a year and a half.  Why?

i plugged in my 18 month old iPhone to charge it, using the cable that came with it and that I have used regularly all along. I got a warning on my phone screen saying the cable is not certified and may not work properly with my iPhone.  Why?

If you updated iPhone to iOS7, it now checks for real Apple Lightning Cable. Your cable may not be Apple, or someone swapped another cable with yours. Make sure the cable end is clean, take a clean dry toothbrush and carefully clean charging port on the iPhone.

Get a replacement cable. If still under warranty, Apple will replace the cable.

  • Why does only the USB cable that came with my phon...

I recently acquired a Nokia Lumia Icon from Verizon.  I have a Lenovo Yoga Pro 2 computer running Windows 8.1 with the Windows Phone App for Desktop (WPA4D) installed.  I had a very difficult time getting my Icon to be seen by my computer when connecting it with one of the half dozen micro USB cables I have laying around.  WPA4D would not recognize it.  Then, I connected it using the USB cable that came with the phone, and WPA4D immediately recognized it.  Then I unplugged it and went back to a different cable - it was again not recognized.
What is different about the USB cable that ships with the Nokia Lumia Icon?  If I want to order more, like from Monoprice, what do I order to get the same thing?  Why is Nokia (apparently) using some sort of proprietary cable??
    Thanks,
    Eric

It is not proprietary. The charging/data cable for my GPS works.
A lot of the cables are just for charging and that is all they are wired for and they don't even have the data pin. Full size USB cables are the same way.
If I needed an extra I would get it from Nokia.

  • "charging is not supported" when using the cable that came with ipod

I get an error message that "charging is not supported" when plugged in using the only cable that came with my ipod touch. My ipod will charge for 5 minutes then when I check on it, I notice this error on screen and the ipod has stopped charging.  I'm using the same charging method I have always used since I owned this ipod which has been over 2 years now and this only started happening recently. I believe this started when I upgraded to 5.0.1.

    - Look at both partsof the 30 pin dock connector.  Log for bent. mising or corroded contacts of orther abnormalities. The cable could be bad.  Try a new one.
    - Try a reset. Nothings is lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • I lost the USB cable that came with my phone (wt19i Live With Walkman)

I lost the USB cable that came with my phone (wt19i Live With Walkman). However, the charging power adapter still here.
I don't have any other cable.
My phone's USB port use Micro-B connector.
If I buy a high quality USB cable with Micro-B connector, will it be compatible for both charging and data transfer?
Is it necessary to buy the original Sony Ericsson USB cable? If yes, which model should I buy?

  • Do I have to use the cable that came with my i home iw3 or can I use the charging cable from my ipad air with an adapter?

Do I need the cable that came with I home iw3 to connect my ipad air or can I use the ipad charging cable with an adapter to connect?

Just from personal curiosity, which web pages did you visit with your question that had you end up here in the 10.3 and earlier forum Circa 2003 obsoleteware?
It seems a common fault with this Apple Spoort site that so many posts are made to this forum that are irrelevant.
Can you post a few links from your browser History, just for research?
To answer your question, to upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 you need to purchase the 10.6 retail DVD such as from here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
(For your home country use the Apple localised site.)
The DVD is reasonablly priced, and once installed you can upgrade your iTunes etc.

  • Droid RAZR HD won't charge with either cable that came with the new phone.

My RAZR HD will not charge using either of the USB charging cords that came with the phone and I have tried several different USB/wall type adapters.  I have to use a generic charger (not a USB cord, just a straight outlet to phone type).  The data cable that connects the phone to my laptop works so it doesn't seem like it is a connection problem.  Is anyone else having this trouble?

Thank you for the reply.  After much trial and error I finally discovered
that the USB/outlet adapter cannot be plugged into any type of outlet
adapter (like converting two outlets to 4 or 6 in a wall outlet), extension
cord, or power strip/bar to function.  It must be plugged directly into the
wall socket (or computer) in order to charge.
