That seems to clarify the interoperability of ACR 5.7 and LR 3. Thank you for that, Mr. Hogarty.
Now, for the benefit of those of use who are not and/or will not be using Lightroom 3 for whatever reason, perhaps Mr. Chan or you can address the question of whether ACR 5.7 RC has a different or improved Noise Reduction functionality over that of ACR 5.6, and/or whether this will be the case for the final, GM release of ACR 5.7. Let's leave any and all versions of LR out of the equation for a second, please.
I think I see improved Noise Reduction in ACR 5.7 RC, but I wonder if this is real or whether I've just improved my skills in handling the noise reduction sliders since earlier versions.

As a computer engineer, I use my computer for WAY more than just Photoshop. As such, I do everything I can to have the operating system (via Windows Explorer) integrate things for me.

I would recomend not to wait till the patch is live rather get that resolved now, so that we are sure that your update from live works.
Can you please verify if OOBE folder is present in Program Files\Commo
n Files\Adobe\ folder?
If not, can you please reinstall the CS5 product in order to get that folder and then try installing 6.2 again?

Loaded on a plain vanilla XP system with no problems. However, I respectfully request you get rid of the setup 64 bit splash screen, can be confusing to those of us with 32 bit systems. It could easily be interpreted as indicating one has downloaded the wrong software.

Hi All:
based on the good work of Dorin above (post #19), he did a timeline of various releases of Lightroom from Adobe and it shows that from "version x RC" to "final release version" was around 1 month.
as it is already exactly one month now, it must not be too much longer till they will release the LR2.3 Final Version.
As for what Robert said in post #23, well, there's never any "guarantee" on a problem-free piece of software, or, for that matter, anything one purchases or anything in life, actually!! Yet, one can make educated extrapolations, right? From the range of comments thus far on LR2.3RC, it appears that it is the best version yet of LR2.x. This leads to the conclusion that it is probably a "good bet" that this version will likely lead to the least amount of issues, right? Maybe not "zero issues", but most likely, the least amount of issues from the various LR2.x versions available.
So by waiting, say, merely 1-3 more weeks approximately, i can go directly from LR1.4 (which i've been using for many months) to LR2.3 Final Release Version. It seems like it is a prudent and conservative move or plan.
What do the good folks here think, please?
thanks in advance for helping me to mull this over. If i were a PC expert, i'd be thinking about this less. as i'm just a somewhat competent user, and not a whiz, i thought that a bit of care and planning it out intelligently can possibly reduce frustrations later.

Lightroom 3.2 and Camera Raw 6.2 are now available as final releases on Adobe.com and through the update mechanisms available in Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3. These updates include additional lens profiles support among others. Check out http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/. Following the example of Adobe's collaboration with SIGMA, leading lens manufacturers such as Pentax, Tamron and Zeiss worked closely with Adobe to create some of the profiles.

Lightroom doesn't show a thumbnail image and when trying to import it says the camera format isn't supported. But normaly Camera raw 6.6 should cover the Canon eos 6D

No, the older versions are not free. If you upgrade you will have to get Lr5 unless you can still find Lr4 for sale somewhere as it has been discontinued by Adobe. You can also use the FREE DNG converter to convert the 6d files for use in Lr3.6.

Lightroom 2.3 and Camera Raw 5.3

I've been Googling and searching high and low on my harddrive, for a location for the Camera Raw.8bi file. I've downloaded the new v5.3, and wanted to replace/update, but I cannot figure where I'm supposed to put the .8bi file.
PS! I don't have Photoshop installed, I only have Lightroom.

On Windows, C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats. But you don't need it for Lightroom, and you don't have what to do with it without Photoshop CS4.
If you already have Lightroom 2.3 — that's all you need, if not — update Lightroom.

Important Note Regarding Lightroom 2.5 and Camera Raw 5.5 for those using PowerPC

There was a request for further clarity on how to revert to Camera Raw 5.4. Please follow these instructions:
1. Close Photoshop CS4 and Bridge CS4
2. Download the Camera Raw 5.4 plug-in from the following location: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4521
3. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS4/File Formats
4. Delete the Camera Raw.plug-in file located in that directory
5. Open the Camera_Raw_5_4 DMG file downloaded in step 2
6. Copy the Camera Raw.plug-file from the DMG file into the direcotry indicated in step 3.

The same ACR 4.2 plugin is used for CS3 and for PSE5.0...
According to Adobe's ACR 4.2 readme:
> The Camera Raw 4.2 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS3 or versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 4.0 for Macintosh or Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Windows.
So you should be good to go with PSE5.0, just download/install your plugin.

Thanks for your update Tom.
I will install both but wanted to ask about a recovery slider issue I was seeing with Canon RAW files & homemade DNG profiles in Lightroom.
The recovery slider was shifting colors towards magenta as more was applied..
Has this been addressed with the ACR 5.5 release?
If so, do I need to re-make all of me homemade DNG profiles after installing ACR 5.5?

Just downloaded DNG_Camera_Raw_4_2.zip (for Windows), and the DNG Converter 4.2 indeed converts Sony A-700 ARW files so Camera Raw 3.7 can happily develop them. Never expected ACR support for the A-700 to happen so quickly; this camera was officially introduced last week and and will be available for purchase from next month on or so. Well done, Sony and Adobe!
And no, I don't have an A-700; I downloaded the ARW files from the Internet.

Lightroom 3.4 and Camera Raw 6.4

I like the interface. There were some subtle changes. I don't like the import dialogue menu. Find it more confusing that the previous dialogue box setup. Suggestions:
1) Add a 3rd level customization. I take a lot of images per month and sometimes on the same day and it would be create folders for those events instead of importing them with a custom name and drag n drop the files into a folder later.
2)Add option to modify date format, and customization.
3) Add video editing tab in future releases. Maybe in LR4 or 5. I use a Canon 5D Mark II now and I can do HD video. It would be nice if there was a tab for some basic video editing. Something similar to iMovie 3.
Needs Improvements:
1) The Sharpening tools. The algorithms are ok but LR can do better. It would be nice to have more control over what is being sharpened such as luminosity.
2) Vignetting has improved but we are still limited on some parameters.
Keep
1) I noticed the shadow when you scroll to the photos in the lower pane in the develop tab and library tab. That's cool.
I'll add more suggestions in the days to come.

First off, you know there's a Lightroom Feature Request forum, right?
As far as the sharpening is concerned, LR is already only sharpening the luminance data not the color data. You already have the ability to add edge masking and you can subtract the strength of the sharpening in the Detail panel by using a minus sharpening Adjustment Bush. Pretty important to understand how to use a tool before going to far when asking for changes...
