Lightroom 2.7, Edit in Photoshop CS5 can it be done?

I am currenently  running Lightroom 2.7 64-bit. I have upgraded to Photoshop CS5 64-bit. When I gointo "edit in" the only options I get are "edit in photoshop CS3" or "open as a smart object".  When I edit as a smart object photoshop my image is opened in CS5. How do I get Lightroom to recognize CS5 so I can edit in ity instead of CS3?

Try uninstalling CS3 and then reinstalling CS5.

  • How can I add "Edit with Photoshop CS5" to the Edit With options?

How can I add "Edit with Photoshop CS5" to the Edit With options?

I think it has something to do with the order in which the PSE and PS are installed on your machine.
For me, I can see option for editing in photoshop both in edit menu and from the action bar. I probably had Photoshop installed on my system before PSE

  • Lightroom 3 does not see Photoshop CS5 as Primary EXTERNAL editor

After removing prior versions of Lightroom (2.7) and Photoshop (CS4), Lightroom 3 does not recognize Photoshop CS5 64 bit or 32 bit as the PRIMARY external editor.  I can select the file and edit in the proper file, but the other options are greyed out.

  • Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

I'm performing a normal "Save", not "Save As". Work flow I'm using is as follows:  Select photo in Lightroom 5.7 >" Edit In" Photoshop CC 2014 > (after working on photo is PS) > Save > close PS. Photo returns to Lightroom 5.7 in a new folder rather than next to the original. Prior to purchasing the monthly plan and upgrading to PS CC 2014, I performed this same work flow using Lightroom 5.6 and Photoshop CS6 without any issues.
Just for fun... I attempted to move the edited file back into the original folder. I received a prompt that said the file already existed in the original folder, however I can't see it except the new folder that LR created. I tried several different sort orders, etc without any success.
*** Follow up: Was unable to resolve the issue using Photoshop CC 2014. Uninstalled PS CC 2014 and went back to using Photoshop CS6. Return trips from LR 5.7 to Photoshop is now performing as it should: returning edited photo back to the original folder in LR 5 and placing next to the original image.
Should anyone have a suggestion on getting Photoshop CC 2014 to do the same, I would love to be educated.
    Thanks for the help, dj_paige.

  • Photoshop CS5: can I retroactively determine adjustment parameters?

Photoshop CS5: can I retroactively determine adjustment parameters? E.g, the values used when I adjusted brightness/contrast?
I'm running Adobe CS5 on an iMac 24" (OSX 10.6.8).
Ive been working on picture in Photoshop. The first step was an adjustment of brightness/contrast. I can see the several steps I've made in Photoshop's 'history' window, but, although I can do or undo the various levels, I can't determine the values I used at each stage, as there appears to be no info on those values in the history window.
I've been making notes of the subsequent transformations/adjustments, but I didn't remember to do that on the first step. Can I retrieve this info somehow, via history, or some other way?
    Thanks, Seb

If you can retrieve the undamaged original image and the image with but that one adjustment applied from the History you should be able to get the values through trial and error.
And if you follow Mylenium’s advice and work non-destructively with Adjustment Layers the task is not that hard.
Use the original image as the lowest Layer, apply a hard Layer Mask to a Layer of the damaged one above that and insert an Adjustment Layer between the two.
Then try various settings until the images match up.
    Edit:

  • I have installed adobe photoshop CS5 extended and I don't know where to find how to open it up.

I have downloaded photoshop CS5 extended and I don't know how to find where to open it up.

Which operating system are you using?  It should open in the usual manner depending on your OS.

  • Edit in Photoshop CS5 from Lightroom 3.2 doesn't open file in Photoshop

    Hi,
I've just made a complete fresh install of Lightroom 3.2 and Photoshop CS5 extended on my new iMac (OS 10.6.4, x64)
Now I'm trying to edit raw-files in Photoshop CS5.
Normally a popup should appear to ask in which format the photo should be opened in PS.
But no popup is shown, Photoshop starts immediately, but without actually opening the photo.
If I configure Photoshop as secondary editor this problem does not appear, and everyting works fine.
But in that case I miss the option for a secondary editor like for example DxO...
    What to do?
    Regards,
    Menno

    Menno,
I can't help you with your primary problem, as I'm not a CS5 user.
But regarding your second concern with having CS5 as a secondary editor and therefore not having the option for additonal external editors:
You can have as many external editors as you like, e.g. CS5 as one, DXO as one, Nik Viveza as one and so on. All you have to do is create different External Editor Presets in Preferences for each desired external editor.

  • Can no longer edit in Photoshop CS5

I recently uninstalled Lightroom 2.7 in favor of using my recently installed Lightroom 3.  I did the same in terms of unintalling Photoshop CS3 in favor of using only my recently installed version of Photoshop CS5.  As a result, coincidentally or otherwise, nothing works right now.  When I open LR3 images and go to "Edit In", Photoshop is greyed out and so I am unable to do any editing outside Lightroom itself.
Does anyone know how I might remedy this problem?  I am at the point of total frustration with both programs and am about ready to uninstall both of them and start all over again (which I dread).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks much.

Just reinstall CS5. I believe you can do a repair to fix the problem. When you removed CS3 the uninstaller removed some files needed by CS5.

I have photoshop cs5, windows 7, 64 bit, camera raw 6. I dont have creative cloud. Ive tried installing adobe updater, but just get redirected to CC. Any ideas where/how I can get camera raw 8.1? Thank you.

  • Lightroom 3: Edit in Photoshop CS5 no longer saves a copy as TIFF for editing

    Hi,
I have Lightroom 3 (LR3) and Photoshop CS5 (non Extended) and Snow  Leopard on OSX.  Both LR3 and CS5 are filly updated.  CS5 updated with  Camera Raw 6.1.
On one day, when I tell LR3 to "Edit in Photoshop" it would save a copy  of the NEF with current LR3 settings as a TIFF and I can edit it in  Photoshop as a TIFF.  I would see a progress indicator in LR3 that show  it saving a copy as a TIFF.
The next day, this stopped working.  It goes directly to Photoshop and  opens the NEF itself.   It's is completely ignoring the LR3 settings in  External Handling tab.
Strangely, when I "save" this NEF in Photoshop, a TIFF is created back in LR3.  That threw me off completely from LR2.7
Has anybody encountered this?  Does LR3 skip telling you if you want to save as TIFF now if you have the latest LR and CS?
    Thank you.

What you describe as abnormal is how things are supposed to work:
If the RAW engines match (where LR3 and ACR 6.1 do), then LR just tells PS what the "conversion recipe" is and PS tells ACR to silently open it with that "recipe" so it doesn't have to be rendered to TIF or PSD on the way into PS.
If the RAW engine of PS (ACR's version) is too odl to understand all the LR adjustments then LR knows this and will render to an intermediate file on the way into PS.  This also happens if you use some other third-party photo-editor that can't use ACR to open the file.
On Windows, at least, there is a way to make LR render to TIF/PSD on the way into Photoshop, I fyou create a duplicate copy of the EXE and rename it to PhotoshopX.exe or some other name that LR doesn't recognize as Photoshop, then LR thinks it is a third-party editor and renders an intermediate file.
What might have happened is that you updated to ACR 6.1 or maybe PS 12.0.1 which caused LR to re-evaluate the Photoshop compatibility and it determined it was fully compatible and didn't render to an intermediate file on the way in.
Since Photoshop is a bitmap editor, it has to save as something other than the RAW file on the way out, and LR will see that Save occur and import it automatically.
    Does that all make sense?

  • Can Lightroom 5.5 'link' with Photoshop CS5?

I use  Photoshop CS5 in Windows 7 and need to open Sony ARW RAW files.
At a talk last night and expert gave a talk on his Mac about Lightroom and how RAW files could be imported.
He showed how Lightroom differed from Camera Raw and persuaded me that I needed Lightroom.

Lightroom is an excellent companion for Photoshop CS5. It will give you the features of the latest Camera Raw. Lightroom will create a PSD or TIF file to send to Photoshop so that you can use all of the Photoshop tools you are accustomed to. When you have finished working in Photoshop that file will be saved and added to your Lightroom catalog. I think you would be very pleased with the workflow.
Camera Raw that is used by Photoshop CS5 is older than the raw editing capabilities of Lightroom 5. Camera Raw is used to convert the image when it transfers from Lightroom to Photoshop. Since your version of Camera Raw won't have all of the features that Lightroom does, it might not be able to accurately convert the image during the transfer. The solution is simply to allow Lightroom to create the TIF or PSD file before it is opened in Photoshop rather than at the end of the Photoshop session. The process works very smoothly, and many users use that workflow.

  • Can't edit in Photoshop CS5

I just bought a new computer that uses Windows 7. I successfully restored my Elements Catalog. But when I click on a photo in the Organizer, then click on Edit, then on Edit with Photoshop, all that happens is I see a moving circle, then briefly an hourglass, then absolutely nothing happens. It never takes the photo into CS5 for editing. I tried going into Edit, Preferences, Editing, and Use a Supplementary Editing Application, but all it said was that CS5 is already an option. Yet it won't work. It worked just fine on my old XP computer. Help!

On my old computer (Windows XP) I was able to click on Edit in Elements 8.0, then Edit in Photoshop, and it took me directly to CS5. Shouldn't it do the same thing in Windows 7???
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling CS5, and that didn't make a difference.
