Lightroom 2 develop settings not stored in Tiff images

Hello,
I'm running windows XP, LR 2.0 and have all the Metadata changes checked.
When I edit a photo in LR the develop setting do not show up in any other Photo editor, Photoshop CS3, ACDSEE, etc..
I've tired writing metadata to files and the changes are seen other than LR. I want to upload these images to a stock photo web site.
Regards,
Jeff

Jeff,
if you want to see changes done in LR also in other programs like ACDsee and other you don't need to export changes but the whole picture.
If you checked "automatically write changes to xmp" it doesn't mean you can see the changes in other programs. It only means your changes are written in xmp file (raw) or in the first (normally invisible) part in jpeg or tiff (you can see it if you open jpeg in notepad). But it doesn't mean your file is rendered (raw) or your bitmap file is changed in a visible way. Frankly to say LR doesn't export changes but only a prescript which says what changes should be done if you will use this picture in a program which can read this prescript (today it is only LR and up-to-date CameraRaw).
You can export everywhere. If you want to see changes in other programs, your folder doesn't need contain changes (prescripts) but whole changed picture.

  • What does "Include develop settings metadata inside JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files" do?

I am wondering what the option "Include develop settings metadata inside JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files" found in catalog settings/metadata does?  what happens if you uncheck it?

also when this is unchecked will lightroom still save keyword changes to raw(nef) files?  thank you!
Metadata ("real" metadata like keyowords nor develop adjustments) are never saved into non-DNG Raw files (like .nef, .cr2) directly. With these files, there is always a so called sidecar file (with the extension .xmp) created to hold the XMP information.
And yes, if the option is unchecked, LR will save the keywords to the XMP sidecars, when you perform "Write Metadata to File" or have the autowrite option active.

  • Display resolution settings not storing since upgrading monitors

We have (2) Mac Pros and since upgrading to larger monitors we have been having issues with the resolution settings not "storing" in display preferences. The computer setups are slightly different, and the monitor sizes and make/models are both different, but the problems are the same:
    1) Mac Pro DVI out > VGA switcher > Monitor VGA input
    2) Mac Pro DVI out > VGA switcher > DVI switcher > Monitor DVI input
(*Note - I know this whole setup seems ridiculous, but it's the way each of the rooms were hard-wired)
With both machines the problems intermittently vary from the resolution itself changing at random when turning on the machine each day, to the desktop background being about 2/3 the size of the screen, while all of the icons and rest of the desktop being normal sized/extended to the edges of the monitor as it should.
It seems that if we change resolution to anything else, and then change back to the desired resolution, that usually solves the problem.
Does anyone know why these settings won't save?
(*Note - we recently upgraded to Lion, but the issue was there before and after the upgrade.)

You must close the window and save changes to keep them.
You may have a problem with Disk Permissions -- the file may not be available to you for writing.

  • Elements 10 canvas not working with tiff images; works fine with jpegs. What to do?

Elements 10 canvas not working with tiff images; works fine with jpegs. What to do? It does not allow me to add a colored canvas, only a blank canvas.

Perhaps some of the tiffs are already layers.
In other words, since jpegs don't support layers, they all ways open with one locked background layer, but the tiff format does
support layers so the tiffs don't have to have a locked background layer and can already be a regular layer that supports transparency.
For the tiffs you could add a new color fill layer below and use the color you want the enlarged canvas to be.
On pse 10 look at the bottom of the layers panel for the new adjustment of fill layer icon

LR 5.6 doesn't support the new Nikon D750. You have to wait to the next update.
You con also install the release candidate of the DNG converter and convert your NEF files to dng.

  • Develop Settings Not Transferring to Lightroom CC

    Dear support,
I just upgraded my catalog from LR 5.7 to LR CC.  The develop settings in LR 5.7 (i.e. exposure, white balance, etc.) are all zero values in LR CC.  I have thousands of photos.  There's no way I want to re-enter all my settings for each photo.  Is this a bug in LR CC?
    Wade

Are you able to confirm that you've done a direct comparison using the same image between the LR5 and LRCC catalogs? If you followed the normal upgrade method, having all develop settings reverted to the default zero positions is extremely unusual....in fact this is the first time I've heard of it, hence my puzzlement. If possible, could you show us a screenshot of such a comparison, showing the sliders in the Basic panel and the contents of the History panel for the same image in both catalogs? It would help us try to figure out what's happened here.
After that, I guess the next logical thing to try would be to run through the upgrade process again, but maybe save that thought for later. Let's see if we can figure our way through this.
Your reference to the XMP data is interesting. Did you have "Auto write to XMP" enabled in the LR5 catalog settings?

  • Develop settings not showing up in library module view of image

    Hi there
A quick question about an issue I have not seen before.  Imported a raw image .cr2 file from a Canon S95.  Opened develop module and applied clarity, vibrance and sauration adjustements.  Clicked back to Library module and the adjustments have not been made.  Clicked back to Develop and they are there.  Have tried closing LR5 and reopening - the image adjustments are still visibile in Develop, but not in Library.  Any thoughts?  Is this a software issue or a hardware issue (have just upgraded from LR4).  Thanks in advance.

Hi Lee - I'll keep LR running for a while to see what happens.  I did notice that when I did the import of the image, the thumbnails of the images from the SD card were not immediately rendered.  it was possible to see the images by clicking on each one.  When I had previewed each image individually, the thumbnails were visible.  I suppose its possible that my hardware is running very slowly as welll.
    Thanks

  • Merge develop settings for a set of images in a back up file

    Hi
The situation I have is a folder with 2,000 images in it - I started developing from image 1 and moved forward through them developing as I went.
Lightroom crashed and so I restored from a back up, but still I lost about 4 hours work.  I couldn't face redeveloping the exact same images I had just done again, so I went to image 2,000 and started working back through the folder, figuring that I would have renewed enthusiasm for the images I'd done but lost the develop settings on by the time I'd gone through the new ones.  I backed up as I went, scared that I would lose a lot of work again.  So, in short, I have a folder with half the images developed and a chunk in the middle, still to be developed.
I have just opened the catalogue to sit down and develop the remaining images and I note that the images from say 1,300 - 2,000, which I had previously developed have lost their settings again.  I went back through my back ups and I have a back up file with them done, but it is from over a week ago.
My question is - can I selectively copy the develop settings for images 1,300 - 2,000 on that specific folder from an old back to the current files without having to overwrite everything from that old back up, which would in turn overwrite work I have done since on other folders?
Would really appreciate help on this one.
RAWs were converted to DNGs at import.
    Thanks

    Hi Geoff
Thanks so much for this - it did the trick!  Hours saved!
For others who may read this item, it doesn't restore the individual steps you took during developing, it works in much the same way as the 'copy/paste previous settings' option in  that you get one line saying that settings were pasted....but that was good enough for me!

  • Lightroom 5 Develop Module Not Responding

The LR5 develop module will flash not responding after about 5 minutes of use.  I have to shut down LR and restart it to get it to respond, but it gets kind of old having to do it every 5 minutes.  Photoshop CS6 had the same issue with ATI drivers and, as far as I know, that issue has not been resolved.  The workaround was to turn off hardware rendering, but there is no option, that I can find, in LR to do that.  Anyone else experiencing the same issue?  Any temporary solutions other than dropping ATI altogether?

    Hey KarlNapp,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
When did the reboot issue start?  Did you install any new applications on the BlackBerry Z10?  Also do you restart the BlackBerry Z10 by removing the battery or holding the power button?
Is the BlackBerry Z10 charging when you try to power it off and resets?
I look forward to your reply.

  • Applying Develop settings to new batch of images

I recently processed a load of raw images, changing most of the settings in the Develop menu, including adjusting the tone curve.
I have a new set of images I want to process in exactly the same way, but I can't seem to recover the settings from the first batch. It seems like this should be a fairly simple process - any tips?
I have a .dcp profile that I assumed I would be able to apply, but it doesn't appear to do anything.

Why not create a preset and then you can apply it to any batch of selected images or on import. Start by choosing one of your finished images and in Develop click on the plus sign to the right of presets in the left hand panel. Give it a name and save it as a user preset.

  • What happens when there is a conflict between develop settings stored in file metadata, and the catalog?

    Hello,
Wondering if someone could quickly help me with understanding how develop settings are read back into lightroom... (I'm using lightroom 3.6) as I've just had a bit of a panic that my mis-understanding of the system might have screwed things up a bit!
As I do all my image tinkering on a laptop with a small disk, I am often archiving directories of images to an old server we have, and then just bringing them back onto my laptop whenever I need them again. I have a single lightroom catalog on my laptop, and I thought (I now think wrongly!) that all my develop settings updates were stored solely in the lightroom catalog on my laptop, and as long as I kept a copy of the original jpeg images knocking around somewhere so that I could restore them to my laptop when needed, that I could always get back to the most recently edited version of my images. Often I copied a directory of images from the server to the laptop, edited them with lightroom, then deleted the jpg files from the laptop thinking the originals left on the server would be sufficient to restore my work later.
However recently just before deleting a batch of jpgs from the laptop, I did a quick compare with the server and was horrified to realise that the files where different, and that changes *are* written to the jpeg files! Looking in lightroom I have the 'Include Develop settings in metadata inside JPEG [etc] files' turned on.
    My questions would be:
1 - Have I lost work by effectively deleting the metadata from the jpeg files or is it also preserved in the catalog?
2 - What would happen if some develop settings for an image were stored in the catalog, and a completely different set of develop settings were stored in the file - which would take priority?
    3 - Have I screwed up and if so is there anything I can do to minimise the damage? : {
    Many thanks for any advice!!
    Nicola

    1. Lightroom ALWAYS stores the edits in its catalog file.
    2. Lightroom ALWAYS uses the edits in its catalog file. The information stored in the JPG is NEVER used to display the image in Lightroom.
    3. As long as you don't eliminate the photo from the catalog, you are fine, your edits are present in the catalog file and Lightroom will use those to display the image.

If you have moved the photos to the server, using Lightroom (or using Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders), there's no need to bring them back to your laptop. You can leave the photos on the server, and access them on the server, and everything works properly

  • "Print Settings" are not stored in the print preset

    Hi everybody,
It seems that, no matter how many times i save and update the profile, all the print setting (image size, sharpening, bit depth, color management, ...) are store within the preset, all but the Epson Driver settings, which have to be selected every single time.
I really can't remember if this bug was present in 4.0 or not (I'm currently running 4.1 RC), but I'm quite sure it was working OK under 3.x. Here's the thing.
I configure the printing settings and create. a profile: Profile1.
I change all the settings and create a second profile: Profile2. The "Print Settings" settings are different, same printer, one for Color (Profile1), one for Advanced B&W (Profile2).
I click on Profile1 (which was created with color Print Settings). Clicking on "Print Settings" or "Print", the printer settings selected under the epson driver is the ABW one (the one that belongs to Profile2).
I reselect the correct setting from "Print Settings..." (Color).
    Click "Save" again.
Righ-t click on Profile1 -> Update with current Settings. Setting seems to be saved.
I then click on Profile2 and bam! The "Print Settings..." seems to be rverted to color instead of ABW.
Update the correct settings, back to point #3
Can you reproduce this? This behavior is vanishig the power of the "Print One" button, unless you constantly print with tha same Driver settings.
    Lightroom version: 4.1 RC [820174]
    Version: 10.7 [3]
    Application architecture: x64
    Physical processor count: 4
    Processor speed: 2,4 GHz
    Built-in memory: 8192,0 MB
Real memory available to Lightroom: 8192,0 MB
Real memory used by Lightroom: 2388,3 MB (29,1%)
Virtual memory used by Lightroom: 4759,6 MB
    Memory cache size: 866,7 MB
    Displays: 1) 2560x1440, 2) 1680x1050
Epson R3000, latest OS X Epson Drivers.

I may have resolved the issue.
The bug is there, because the name of the preset is kept as the last used, which is wrong.
If you revert to the default "Default Settings" Epson preset, and change all the parameters as you like, then click Save and update the Lightroom preset, the settings are stored correctly.
You'll have to check every preset (I have two dozens) and re-update with the new correct (or wrong?) Driver configurations, so that you could have faith again in the "Print One" button.

  • Lightroom 2 save develop settings after folder remove?

I just upgraded to Lightroom 2 and notice that it doesn't save images' develop settings after I remove the folder from the library. So next time I reimport that folder, my develop settings previously applied to those images are gone! Anyway to fix this?

    >Frankly, I don't quite understand what's going on.
    Neither do I. x.x
Here is an example of what's going on.
    I import a photo.
I edit that photo in Dev Module such as recovery, clarity and noise reduction(Luminance).
As I opted for "automatically write changes into XMP", now I've got those changes in the XMP sidecar file as well as in the Lightroom 2 Catalog.lrcat.
At the same time, I have now 4 lines of History including 'Import'(Highlight Recovery, Clarity, Luminance Smoothing)
Quite normal and no problem until here.
When I open that photo several days later, I suddenly have that little up-arrow icon(meaning "metadata was changed externally").
And the photo is like the one I imported without three changes I made above.
Naturally, in History, there is only one line, 'Import'.
    Now I have two option,
    1. "import Settings from Disk"
    2. "Overwrite Settings"
If I chose 1, I have my edited photo back with 3 changes above. It's from XMP (or Catalog), I guess. However, 3 lines of changes in History disappear and only 'Import from metadata' and 'import(date and time) remain. So I can't really use history to see what exactly I've done with that photo. (Well I still can see each change with the right side panel but it's not as quick and convenient as History.
If I chose 2, of course, I lose both my edited photo and 3 lines of History. It's just as if I imported from my Compact Flash.
