  • "an error occurred while attempting to change modules" when launching lightroom

I get the message  "an error occurred while attempting to change modules" when I launch the app on my mac.
Every other adobe app works like Photoshop
I have followed all the troubling shooting steps in the link below, not one of them makes anything different. Except I tried the last one. I created a new account, simply logged in and launched the app and everything ran normally. No problem. However it doesn't say what to do if that works it just says try it.

Obviously this means its going to be an issue with a support file in the one user account but what one?
I also can't un install lightroom either, when I go to the creative cloud plug in on my menu bar the uninstall says its unavailable but the others are fine.
    Any ideas?

I just found the answer for me.
I did step 5 on this support article:
Troubleshoot unexpected behavior | User account-specific | Adobe software | Mac OS
It is to repair the permissions on the hidden Library folders.

  • Despite it is claimed in Adobe forum that Lightroom is fully compatible with OS Maverics on my MacBook Air IT IS NOT. A message "an error occurred while attempting to change modules" appears and I cannot go any further. Can anyone help?

Despite it is claimed in Adobe forum that Lightroom is fully compatible with OS Maverics on my MacBook Air IT IS NOT. A message "an error occurred while attempting to change modules" appears every time I try to open Lightroom. This happened immediately after upgrading to Mavericks. On my doughter's same machine Lightroom works perfectly. Can anyone help?

Surely the Adobe forums are the place for help with Adobe applications. The fact that the problem doesn't occur on your daughter's machine suggests that it's not an issue with Mavericks but a local problem on your own machine.

  • I installed Lightroom 5.6 on Mac, when starting I receive an error message "An error occurred while attempting to change modules"

I installed Lightroom 5.6 (full version, not trial) on Mac, when starting I receive an error message "An error occurred while attempting to change modules".
I tried removing it and reinstalling but the same error comes up.
    Anybody have any recommendations?

A forum thread from 3 years ago talking about LR 1.x which had this problem seems to need permissions fixed or new folders created with the corrected permissions.  You might try doing a repair permissions for your user and/or run LR as an administrator user.  I am a PC person so cannot tell you exactly how to do that.

  • An error occurred while attempting to change modules

I installed Lightroom and when starting the program I get, "An error occurred while attempting to change modules." I get this message within the program when clicking on any of the top right menu items. Also, importing a photo is not listed in the file menu. I deleted the preference file and Lightroom folder in my user preference and reinstalled. I tried many reinstalls, it still has reoccurring error message. Anyone now a fix? I'm running 10.5 on a Core Duo with 2meg of RAM on a 320 gig hard drive with lots of room.

For what it is worth, I was unable to change to the Web and Print modules, and I was also unable to record new presets (though I had successfully done it many times before) though I could still use already created ones.  I was baffled, but found a workaround using hints from this and other forums.  Much thanks to those who provided me with a starting point as I never would have figured this out on my own.
My wife is a separate user on the same computer, and I tried switching our catalogues and preference files, ... nada.  Looking at her folder structure under user/library/application support/adobe/lightroom, she had folders for Web Templates, Web Galleries, and Print Templates but I didn't.  So, simply copying her folders (not creating new ones of the same name, which may still have worked) into my own lightroom directory worked.
Where I screwed up initially was tryiong to use my own presets under her install of lightroom and then creating new ones (which worked) but then trying to import them back into mine.  I had the new presets working under my own install, but still couldn't create new ones under my own setup.  Finally, I realized that it was the "Develop Presets" folder under my own install that was in some way corrupted and copied her Develop Presets folder into my own install and every thing was fixed. I could even copy the subfolders from my own Develop Presets folder directly back in without issue.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • An error occurred while attempting to change modules while starting up LR 4.1. New install on a new

An error occurred while attempting to change modules while starting up LR 4.1. New install on a new MBP first time trying to start up

Just a guess, but since everything is new, perhaps you have some sort of permissions problem.
Make sure your user has write access to all the locations mentioned in this link:

  • I have downloaded words with friends on my imac but cannot locate it. Can anyone help?

I have downloaded the Words with Friends app on my imac but cannot locate it. Can anyone help please?

Check your Downloads folder for file possibly ending .dmg. If it's not there, and you use Safari check in its Preferences>General panel to see where downloads are directed to. If you use another browser check its preferences to see where downloads should go.

  • Lightroom 5.3 will not open my A7r files but PS 6 will? Can anyone help?

I installed LR 5 from disc, then updated tp 5.2, and 5.3.  It still says my Sony A7r file can not be read.  However, my PS 6 opens the file from the sme card.  Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!
    Sincerely,
    Greg

The "files cannot be read" message when you import means the DESTINATION specified in the upper-right of the Import panel is not writable by LR, so check where the files are supposedly being copied to.
The error occurs because the copy-function is unable to copy the files, then the import-function cannot read the files because they don't exist.
It would be more helpful if the error was given by the copy-function, saying that the files cannot be written, but it's been this way for many versions, now, and Adobe doesn't change it.

  • On itunes everytime I try and play a track the warning 'the song could not be played because the original files could not be found' please can anyone help me? Thanks

Hi. I have been having problems with my PC and recently removed a lot of rubbish to clear it somewhat. I dont know if that is relavant however on top of that I have just received my replacement iPad2 which i had a proble with and  thought I would just tidy up my tunes before  sycing.  The problem is that everytime I click to play a track in iTunes on my PC, whilst the track is showing on my itunes, it comes up with a warning 'the song cannot be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to find it'. I have tried clicking 'locate', but all that appears is 'music Library' 4 different dates. Help i am very confused, can any shed any light on this
    Thank you

Sounds like you have somehow moved your itunes music library to a different location to where iTunes thinks they should be. Your music should be in a folder called "iTunes Media>Music". If they are located there, try going into iTunes, right clicking on one of the songs and then "get info". When the box pops up, on the first screen it should give a location line where it thinks the music is located. If it is differen't to where you music is stored, try and match it up to the location line that was in the "get info" box.

  • Can't import photos into new LR5 installation, no import option, just error message saying "an error occurred while attempting to change modules"

This is a new MacBook with a new CC LR5 installation. There is however no menu choice allowing me to import photos. Np right or left panels at all. When the program opens I get an error message saying there was an error changing modules.

I Nearly bought from Amazon too but I found a thread from Adobe stating that the only recognized outlet for lightoom is themselves and other outlets serial numbers will not be guaranteed.
THat at was sufficient for me to buy direct from Adobe, hope you get it sorted.

  • "An error occurred while attempting to change modules" message occurs whenever I try to run Lightroom. Can't use it. Can anyone give me any hint to solve the problem?

I found a solution in one of Apple forums. I will copy her post:
    "

I was checking the differences between my normal admin User account/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom contents and the one on the clean other admin User folder in the same place on the G4 PB where Lightroom2 had launched normally and noticed that on the one that works there are a slew of folders (Develop Presets, Export Presets, External Editor Presets, Filename Templates, Filter Presets, etc etc). On the main admin account, there was only one, the first. So it seemed the install on that account didn't load all the needed info. I simply copied the missing folders from the account that worked into the Public folder, switched to my main account and added those missing folders in the proper place. Voilà!. Now Lightroom launches normally and I don't get the dreaded missing modules alert."
The problem with me is that I do not have a working copy of Lightroom, just 1 account in which it doesn't run and don't know where to copy the missing folders from. Please send some advice.

Surely the Adobe forums are the place for help with Adobe applications. The fact that the problem doesn't occur on your daughter's machine suggests that it's not an issue with Mavericks but a local problem on your own machine.

  • "An unspecified error occurred while performing a conform action on the following file:"

Has anyone else gotten this error in any of their projects?  I've searched around Adobe support pages and elsewhere on the internet, but have found nothing.
It comes up in the events window and I can't even read what file it's talking about because it's on the next line, but the error message only shows one line and I haven't figured out a way to expand it.
I'm not even sure if it's causing any problems, or not (the project seems to work ok).  This message shows up twice, as a red circle with an 'X' in it, but I also get the following message numerous times referring to a large amount of my .avi files:
"File importer detected an inconsistency in the file structure of filename.avi.  Reading and writing this file's metadata (XMP) has been disabled."
That message shows up as a yellow triangle with an '!' in it.  Since I haven't been able to turn anything up about these messages, I figured I'd ask here and see if anyone knew what was going on, how to fix the problem or if I should even worry about them.
    Thanks.

I am having this problem now when i use dynamic link from Premiere to after effects. I copy the footage from premiere then paste into after effects, i add alittle text maybe some light rays etc save it then go back to premiere. Then i get this message "An unspecified error occurred while performing a conform action on the following file C:\Caches\Media Cache Files\text comp 1 48000.cfa." does anyone have any idea as to what this is? i have had a few problems using the dynamic link from premiere to after effects problems such as Premiere freezing, not playing the after effects comps back in real time, crashes etc. Its as if the 2 programs dont like the dynamic link.
Im running Master Collection CS5 & CS 5.5 on running on a 24gb ram, Intel Core i7 950 @3.07GHz PC with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX470 graphics card.
