Lightroom 4 and xrite on Mac
Hello,
I have the problem with lightroom 4.
In lighroom 3.6 it worked well making a profile with xrite and then automatically you could find
the made profile in Camera Calibration and profile.
You make a photo with the xrite profile. Then export it in Lightroom.
You see lightroom is saving the profile in the upper corner.
(To here it is working the same as before)
After this I cannot find the profile in Cameracalibrations. I see other profiles but not the new made one.
I can see Xrite in Library/Application support/Adobe/Lighroom/Modules.
I tried to solve it by exporting the profile by hand as dng this works as well but I cannot see
the file in Lightroom.
I have already asked the same question at xrite but they say it should work normal with Lightroom4.
Who could help me?

x-rite is placing the profiles in the user folder but they are not being seen by LR... if i copy them to the ~/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/CameraProfiles/ folder (system level rather than user) they are found and available in LR. forgot to mention that my ACR and LR user preferences folders are symbiotic links to folders in my DropBox account to enable syncing between two machines, that could have something to do with them not being available when in the users folder...
I do however have it all working now through sneaky symbiotic link to system CameraProfiles folder "through" my dropbox folder...
User level CameraRaw folder is symbiotic link to DropBox CameraRaw folder
DropBox CameraRaw folder is symbiotic link to System level CameraRaw folder
x-rite places new profile into user level CameraRaw folder and it appears everywhere...
Maybe not the most elegant solution but it works... at the other end of DropBox on my laptop i do however have to do a manual sync of the two folders... i can't have it all my way i suppose

Reh... Doesn't work on my 2012 Mac mini. A function key set in Sys Prefs worked in Leopard and Lion on my MB but I cannot get any key to work using SysPref Dictation & Speech. It is befuddling and now I have to go to Edit-Speech to turn on and turn off speech to selected text.
I have used Macs and Apple 2es since cave man days and Apple is becoming so befuddling I am wondering if there is even an advantage to it over Windows XP. I spent a lot on this little box, it looks good (the first one had to be exchanged as it wouldn't link to my keyboard ???) but Apple intuitive does no longer seem meaningful.
If speech to text no longer is accessible by short cuts using Fkeys, why bother to have it in Syst Prefs?
Apple is losing its way. The pleasure is gone and no one at Apple seems to care. -
Question: The desktop on which I had Lightroom and PhotoshopCC installed failed and I no longer have access to it. How do I deactivate the software on those machines so that I can reinstall it on my new Mac?
Absolutely - but I had no idea there were two versions. When I got my new laptop I just went to the Adobe site to download and install LR5. It never asked if I had a license; it just directed me to install CC to start a trial which I thought I could license after downloading. Several sessions and many hours of looking through the forums and Google for an answer I never ran across anything that made this distinction. I still haven't found a path from www.adobe.com that would get me to the standalone download page (it's probably there, wasn't obvious to me) and looking at the download page it doesn't make any CC/standalone distinction.
There are many places I could have gotten a hint - for instance the license could be tagged "stand alone edition", the CC-version could recognize the stand-alone key and either accept it or produce a more meaningful error message, or the download site or the CC app could ask if I had previously purchased a key, etc.
It was my error to assume this was a deactivation problem, but it looked the same as a previous deactivation problem with Photoshop.

I'm getting error messages when I download updates for lightroom and flash for the mac. can't figure out how to trouble shoot.
It sounds as if your browser and some of your apps are not color-managed. This is pretty typical. Even IE9 is only partially color-managed.
You can expect color-managed and non-color-managed applications to show you different things with the same images. How different will depend upon how different your monitor color profile is from the image's color profile.
For web publication and most general use, experts usually advise saving images with the sRGB profile. If such images, saved through the Save for Web & Devices function, look different to you than you expect, it may be that your input images have previously been saved in another color space.
You should really try to get your head around color-management by reading more on it. It can seem baffling and it's difficult to understand without some background. A quick web search turns up many overviews. Beware, though, even people writing articles sometimes don't fully understand it.

as I’m using a Mac so I have download the file with .dmg extension, which is the one that currently doesn’t work.
I also tried to download the .exe one, but as expected when I double click on it, I have an error message that confirmed Windows is not supported.

I currently have premiere cs4 and cs5 installed and have had no problems. I have noted on the forums here that some people were reporting problems. So the only way to realy know is make the plunge. I'm running win 7 pro.

I try to drag a photo folder into lightroom 4 on my MAC, lightroom fails to open and a 'Corrupt Catalog Detected' screen pops up. Clicking on 'repair catalog' does not work either. Any suggestions?
I'll have to get a better instructor on deleting the preferences since when I've doen it in the past nothing is there when I open LR the catalog is gone. I assumed that was what was supposed to happen so I start importing all over again. But that is a different issue...
The problem has been happening since at least the beta of 3 came out and I saw other posts back then saying they had similar issues but I assume it was a beta thing... But since the full version came out and through each incremental change I haven't seen an improvement. If anything it has gotten a little worse with time.
I have to try to be careful to not be in a hurry and start clicking around in the catalog as it seems fragile until it has cataloged all the photos in the library. When starting you will see the numbers populate the folders very slowly and I try not to click on a folder that hasn't had the number of photos pop up yet. Also draging the slider down to see more of the cataloge can have the same affect and crash the system.
I wish I had more to go on.. I believe it may be a resources issue but as I went from 3-4 Gig I thought it would get better. I don't have big programs running but did have outlook and word running in the background along with firefox and chrome.
And yes it only happens on this HP desktop (it's 2+ yrs old) and may be showing it's age a bit. My laptop which has less resources doesn't have the issue.. I have them sharing the catalog. (not at the same time) just when I'm working in other places in the house.

The Lightroom Catalog (a single file on both)
The Previews (a single folder on both)
The Smart Previews (a single folder on both)
Presets, Settings and Such (in identically nested folders within the OS construct on both)
Take it from an experienced user in both OS's. Mac simplifies somethings - PC simplifies others. -

I have been using Photoshop CS3 for many years and finally decided it was time to upgrade. I use a Mac at home and a PC at work and also have an iPad Air. Are the Lightroom and Photoshop CC Apps compatable with both platforms or would I need to purchase two different memberships? I would obviously not use both at the same time.
Yes, you can use your two activations with your membership for either Mac or PC just as I am doing. I have a Macbook and Windows 7 laptop, and both work well.

Berndh38291059 what version of Photoshop and Lightroom are you installing? Do you receive any specific error messages?
