Lightroom 4 not in Windows default programs - can't associate it

LR4 will not appear in Windows 7 default programs and access as a default program to choose. Microsoft says it is becasue it does not appear in the Windows registry and to contact the manufacturer. How do I get LR4 registered in Windows 7? If I have to reinstall what do I need to do to protect my file structures, etc.?

Ed and Brian, you are not supposed to be able to associate LR with image files such as camera raw files or jpgs as a way to import them. Lightroom opens catalogs, .lrcat files. LR imports images once a catalog is already open.
If LR is somehow associated as the opener for image files, which it used to allow, it mistakenly attempts to open the image file(s) as a catalog database and gets confused, perhaps assigning this image as the default catalog, or worse it can corrupt the image.
If LR is already open, you can drag-and-drop images onto the central area in Library mode to import them more easily than using File Import but you have to start up LR manually.

Can Reader pick up the Default Page Size of a printer that is not the Windows Default Printer?

We have a web based application that generates PDF documents via Crystal Reports.
We are using Adobe Reader 8
The PDF pages are displayed within an Internet Explorer window where the the users then print the document.
The application is designed so the user only gets one chance to print the document (ie they cant come back and change printer settings if they happen to print the document out incorrectly)
The document needs to be printed on A3 paper, full duplex.
We have a printer set-up decidated to the printing of the documents generated by this application. The default page size of this printer is set of A3.
If we set this dedicated printer as the Windows Default Printer we have no problems at all. The default page size (A3) is picked up and the document is printed correctly.
If any other printer is set as the Windows Default Printer (eg one that has a default page size of A4), the users must obviously select the correct printer from the Print Dialogue Box -however when the user selects the dedicated A3 printer, the page size remains as A4 (page size of the Windows Default Printer). This means the user must remember to change the paper size to A3 each time.
Out users find IT a struggle at the best of times - anything that makes the process simpler is very welcomed!
Is there a way to ensure the default page size of the printer is respected when that printer is not the Windows Default Printer?

Gmail not listed under default programs how do I select it?

Trying to set gmail as default for email when clicking on a "reply to" address. It is not listed under default programs. How do I add it or what can I do to make gmail or any other non-microsoft program the default?

For links inside Firefox, you can change a setting in the Options dialog. This article has the steps: [[Change the program used to open email links]].
For links outside Firefox, you may want to check with Google on what they suggest. (Well, they suggest using Google Chrome, but I meant other than that!)

Should I reinstall?

Well, is the catalogue (and the folder it is in) writable? Have you actually checked the permissions? Lightroom won't be spitting out the error just to tick you off, and - computer wizard or not - this sounds very much like something you'll have to fix at the OS level: it's probably nothing to do with Lightroom or those funny lads at Adobe.

.msg files open in new tab or window, not with the default program

Hello,
I am having an issue with .msg files not opening with the default program, Outlook. They are opening in a new tab and it is just a bunch of gibberish from the email header. Does anyone know how to force IE to open the .msg files in Outlook? They open fine
in Chrome and Firefox.

First I suggest we take a try in IE with no-addons.
Follow the steps below:
1. Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (with no add-ons)
2. Press Shift, then right click Internet Explorer icon on taskbar, select run as administrator;
Please also take a verify that if the outlook is set to the default open program of .msg files:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs, find the .msg file and take a look.

You Tube requires Flash update. Worked for laptop Windows 7 but not PC Windows Vista. Can you help?

You Tube said I needed latest Adobe Flash Player, so uninstalled old version and reinstalled latest version 11.6.602.171 on PC running Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit OS. My system says it's there, but it still won't work on You Tube - still get same message saying Ineed latest version.
Had same message on my Laptop running Windows 7 and it updated and works fine. I use Internet Explorer 9.
Detailed Problem Description: Problem with downloading latest Adobe Flash update and viewing YouTube. On PC running Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit OS, You Tube home page red banner at top said I needed to install latest Adobe Flash Player but even after installing, it does not work and will not play most videos in browser and shows black screen with message still asking to download latest version. Seems to be rather random as to which videos it will play and which ones it won't, although there may be some common link (see examples below). I thought it might have been HTML5 problem but I have successfully played HTML5 and Non-HTML videos through Adobe test site (Adobe Flash Player Help/Video Playback Issues) as well as Stage Videos. (Note: Had same You Tube messages when viewing on Laptop running Windows 7 but that updated without problem.)
Ran Adobe Uninstall. Closed all other programs before reinstalling direct from Adobe (rather than You Tube link). No change.
Ran all Adobe troubleshooting suggestions listed at http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-games-video-or.html#main_2__Disable_Ac tiveX_Filtering__if_you_are_using_Internet_Explorer_9_.

Re-enabled, but no change. (WOULD LOVE ADVICE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE IF I SHOULD KEEP THIS ENABLED OR DISABLED.)
I have updated graphics drivers for NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT- although had to do manually as NVIDIA auto system scan said "could not detect your GPU". Noted they said Windows Vista supports up to Direct X 10, but my system is running Direct X 11. Had optional update message for "nVidia Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM 1.2, other Hardware NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT" on both PC & laptop. Laptop downloaded fine. Tried to download on PC but was not successful. Error Code 80070103, possibly because system had already been updated? Current driver version 9.18.13.1407 - "Windows has determined that your current driver software is up to date".
Running Norton 360 but it did not block or indicate any problems with Flash Player download.

Thanks for reply. I ran the recommened Adobe uninstall program so assumed it deleted whatever it should have, before installing new version. When it didn't work I followed instructions in Flash Player help page (screen shot below) which said to delete the Roaming App Data/Macromedia/Flash folder and Roaming App Data/Adobe/Flash folder, which I did.
Below are screen shots of C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash files as they currently stand. I have a fuzzy recollection that it was deleted at some point because I think I went searching for it during one troubleshooting session and it couldn't be found (but maybe I'm geting confused with the App Date folders?). Anyway I presume these current files are all post-reinstallation as the dates are all 5 or 6 March (did them before and after midnight). I'm on Australian time - not sure where you are. However, notice install.log date is 21/05/2010 and Flash Player Trust sub-folder is dated 6/09/2008.
When I right click on the screen of both videos that will and won't play, I just get a list of options starting at "Copy video URL" down to "About HTML5". So not sure what you mean when you say "For the videos that do play, when you right click on them what version of Flash Player is reported at the bottom of the context menu?" as I can't see any info like this. Do I click somewhere else?
If you are able to get the info you are after yourself, two videos that will work are:

and right clicking on the Flash Player info box, going into Settings and checking or unchecking the Enable box. Do you know if there is another setting in my actual computer where I can do this and or there's some other setting I need to change? There doesn't seem to be anything similar when I go through Conrol Panel - Flash Player.
5. Delete all Flash Player browsing data
a.. Click Start > Control Panel.
b.. Double-click Flash Player.
c.. In the Flash Player Setting Manager, click Advanced.
d.. Under Browsing Data and Settings, click Delete All.
6. Remove Flash Player cache
a.. On your computer, select Start > Run. (On Windows 7, click Start and type in Search Programs and Files.)
b.. Type %appdata%\Adobe and click OK.
c.. Delete the Flash Player folder.
d.. Repeat step 1 and type %appdata%\Macromedia.
e.. Delete the Flash Player folder.

Elements 12 Fails as Windows Default Program

I upgraded to Elements 12 from 11. I changed the default setting for JPG and JPEG files to Elements 12. When one of the file types is selected, e.g., from a attachment, Elements 12 opens and for a few seconds it appears to be opening the file for editing, then stops. The file does not open. Changing the Windows 7 (64-bit) default setting to other photo editing software programs works fine. I have removed and re-intalled Elements 12 but the problem continues. This problem did not occur with Elements 11.

First, did you assign the correct program as the default - in 64-bit Windows this will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 12\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe. If you chose Photoshop Elements 12.0.exe that is just the front screen program that lets you pick between the Organizer or the Editor.
Also, run Help> Updates to update to v12.1 and see if that makes any difference.

I recently had to use a Western Digital Smartware backup (I used their program, not the Windows backup program).

One of my hard drives (two physical drives in a RAID array that made them look like one big drive) failed, and had to be replaced. The computer has been repaired and I have restored from backup. I have looked in the user/desktop directories and the only bookmark file I can find is dated 8/2012 (This is 5/2013). Is there another place, Firefox bookmarks are stored, where I can look for a more updated file to import? Thank you!

It seems that my bookmarks cannot be recovered from the last backup I made. I was able to restore from an older backup. HOWEVER,
1. None of the 'unsorted' bookmarks appear? Shouldn't they be part of the backup of bookmarks? It is POSSIBLE, but not PROBABLE that I had no "unsorted" bookmarks as of the backup date.
2. The (2nd to last) backup of my hard drive was done in November 2012, but the bookmarks are dated AUGUST 2012. That was from the desktop. Why didn't my backup file contain bookmarks after August?
a. - Doesn't Firefox keep the latest bookmarks file ? Where, then?
b. - Do I have to actually tell Firefox to make a backup of the bookmarks to have one available?
- Still missing over 100 bookmarks!

Windows 8 clients can't associate to Cisco 2125 controller

I have 2125 controller with running IOS 7.0.230.0, now unable to connect windows 8.1 laptops.
It is support Windows OS 8.1 wireless clients, you need to upgrade the firmware to 7.0.250.X.. I think windows is latest version are supported or not. kindly confirm.

Picking Premiere Pro CC as the Default Program in Windows 8.1

I have both Premiere Pro CS6 and CC on my computer and have to have it that way for access to older projects. I can't get Windows to default to the newer CC version. Using the "Open With" and drilling down to the newer version does not change the default program. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Depends on how you open the program ... I've got Win7 Ultimate, and have separate "shortcut" icons saved to the desktop. Click on which one I want, and that's what opens ... but if you're going through and selecting project files to open, that wouldn't work.
Now, there is a setting at least up through 7 for going through file types, and choosing a default program to use with that file type. In mine, it's in Control Panel -> Programs -> Default Programs -> "Make a file type always open in a specific program".

I get "application not found" when clicking on a http link in a mail, even after having set firefox as the default program for http links.

After installing firefox 15.0, I can not open links form email or other office 2010 applications. I get "application not found" error. I tried setting firefox as the default program both manually (in the Windows default program panel) and automatically (having Firefox to do it automatically on startup (tools->options->advanced->General). I still have the error.

That sounds odd. Is this error coming from a particular e-mail program you're using? It could be that that program has its own settings for which web browser to launch, ignoring the "default browser" setting in Windows.
Does the same thing happen if you click on a web link from any other external (non-browser) application on your computer? If it happens with other apps too, I would suggest to re-download and install Firefox (www.mozilla.org) and see if that takes care of it.
