Lightroom 5 (Mac) stops importing.

Lightroom stops importing, the progress bar stops moving. After quiting Lightroom and trying to sync the folder it happens again. There are no strange fileformats in the folder, just straight JPG and XMP. This is pretty annoying - such a basic functionality should work out of the box.
I've read that the german character "ß" could be the cause (so every file tagged with German Street Names in it will stop LR from working! Excellent.) – and the release candidate 5.2 should fix the issue. BUT: I am not very fond of installing a release candidate; what happens later, when the final version is released? Does the automatic update function its job? Or do i have to fiddle once more to get the final version working?
Looking forward to helpful suggestions, Sincerely
Niko

Another possible cause is hardware trouble: Your card reader or USB Cable/USB Port are bad
Normally with Lightroom, a release candidate can be replaced with the final version simply by installing the final version, there is no other effort needed.

  • Lightroom 4 suddenly stopped importing most images

    Hi All,
I am using an up-to-date version of Lightroom 4.2 on Mac OSX v10.7.5 with 16 GB DDR3 RAM, a 2.93 GHz processor, and about 250 GB free space on my hard drive. I shoot RAW files with a Canon, and always set my import to convert to DNG.
I have been using LR since version 1, and I've never had trouble importing. Two days ago, however, Lightroom stopped importing my images. As I often do with big shoots, I began the import process before heading to bed; when I checked the status in the morning, the screen still read "Importing files..." with no images actually imported. I tried it again immediately, same result. I shut everything down, rebooted the machine, and tried again... same thing.
My process in detail: Connect my camera to my iMac via USB... open import dialogue... check images to import... hit "import." I then get the "Importing files..." message in the middle of the screen, plus the "Convert to Digital Negative and Import" message in the upper left, with the progress bar showing 1/3 filled. Nothing changes from this point, even after 60 minutes. So I click the "X" box in the upper left to end the import. After that, the "Import.." button in the lower left is grayed out, and I cannot try to initiate another import. Hmmm. So I close Lightroom and try again. That's the cycle I'm experiencing.
After repeatedly trying to import about 400-500 images here, I decided to just try a few. I made a few attempts, and eventually I was able to bring 4-5 images in. That gave me hope, but the next time I tried, no luck. So I began trying all sorts of combinations... rebooting LR, turning off the camera, then restarting everything again. Out of maybe 25 attempts, I was able to pull images in 4 times. Strange and seemingly random.
Any advice for out there? Should I try reinstalling Lightroom? Would appreciate any tips or solutions.
    Thanks,
    Nick

Is this a camera that has worked previously, or a new model?
Also - how are you importing? Via USB cable from the camera or using a card reader?

There are a gazillion threads on this. Seems like predominantly a Mac issue.

Il semble un problème avec les autorisations du disque dur externe, ou peut-être le disque dur externe est en format incorrect (on devrait utiliser le format «Mac OS étendu (journalisé)».

  • How do I import from Photoshop elements 12 to Lightroom for Mac OS?

How do I import from Photoshop elements 12 to Lightroom for Mac OS?

I never did it from Windows to Mac.
I assume you need to move everything to Mac PSE12 (or PSE 13) by downloading the 30 day free trial of PSE 12 or 13, and then once everything is working, use File->Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog in Lightroom. Your tags and albums will remain intact. I believe the face recognition transfers as well to keywords, but the location in the photo of the face will be gone as Lightroom has no such feature.

  • HT6030 Mac Mail 7.1 has stopped importing my POP emails from the Server

I have suddenly realised (over the past 2 weeks) that Mail has stopped importing my POP emails from the Server, at first I thought it was just that no-one was sendfing me any, however, I created an Account with Thunderbird and suddenly received dozens of them. I've tried many of the "googled" fixes but none seem to work for me....
Can anyone help me to get my Apple Mail performing correctly please.

    Do a backup.
Take notes of all account information or take screen shots. You may need to set the accounts up again. Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

  • Photos for Mac stuck importing photos from iPhone

I recently upgraded to Photos for Mac from Aperture. Upgrading the library went fairly smoothly. On my first attempt to import photos from my iPhone 6, Photos is now stuck in the import process.
The import tab (device selected) shows the following:
    Already imported (2,509 items)
    New items (442 items)
No thumbnail images are visible (just the default grey squares indicating items)
At the top of this screen is an import progress bar that has not shown any progress. This progress indicator says "Importing 442 items" but the bar itself remains grey; I'm assuming there would be either a black or colored indicator showing some progress when the import process is working correctly.
After about an hour with no indication of progress, I selected the "Stop Import" option, with no noticeable results. I tried clicking the Stop Import button several more times, still with no results. Let things be for about five minutes, with no change in status. The import still seems stuck; clicking the stop button does nothing.
Next, I quit the Photos application. An error sheet appears: "Do you want to continue importing? Photos is currently importing files. If you quit the import task will be canceled." I select "Quit".
Now Photos gets stuck closing the library. All app windows close except for a tiny square that says: "Closing the library..." The library does not close and I run out of patience waiting for it to do so and force quit the application.
    I am using a 27-inch late-2009 iMac
    8GB memory
    2.66 GHz Intel Core i5
    177GB storage space available
    Photos 1.0
    Photo library is approx. 107GB

Update: Force Quitting and restarting the app apparently solved whatever was preventing importation of photos from the iPhone.

  • Lightroom 3 will not import any images

[I replied to another thread, but it doesn't seem to be coming up at the top of the post list when I update my information, so I'm reposting in the hopes that someone will notice and offer some helpful advice, as this is rapidly becoming infuriating.]
    I'm running LR3 on Mac OS 10.6.4.
I put my SD card into my iMac's SD card slot, and tried to import into LR3, but got an error that all of my new files were not imported because they "...could not be read (17)".  They can be read just fine by GraphicConverter and Lightroom 2.  I shoot RAW+JPG and LR3 will not import either version (e.g., if I remove the .CR2 files from the SD card, LR3 won't read the .jpgs either).  I also put the SD card into a reader (instead of into the iMac's SD card slot) and that didn't work.
I copied the RAWs to the Desktop and tried to import from there, but in that case I get a message that the import operations were not performed because "a file could not be copied to the requested location (34)".
I imported images from this SD card on the 5th, and I haven't formatted it since then.  The only thing that's changed that I know of is the Mac OS update, but I would expect that if that were the problem, I wouldn't be able to read these files anywhere (i.e., GraphicConverter).
Update:  I've now tried another SD card, and a CF card, and LR3 will not import any of the files on them - I get the same "...could not be read (17)" error.  I have repaired disk permissions, and I've trashed the Lightroom 3 preferences.
Update #2:  I've deleted and re-installed Lightroom 3, and I still cannot import any new images.  Lightroom 2 continues to import just fine.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

OK, I _think_ I have the cause & cure.
    Cause:
Canon says the software [firmware?] bundled with the Canon Rebel XT  "is not fully compatible with the latest version of OSX." I can continue to automatically bring up iPhoto or use ImageCapture, in any case.  Thanks, but I want LR3.  Canon recommended that I set the controls in ImageCapture to specify opening LR3 when a camera is detected.  I did, but it was doing this before, so I saw no difference.  Also, I'm not sure it was doing it reliably, before or after this change.
This software incompatibility might explain why the Canon Rebel XT was not loading into LR3, but would not explain why it was not recognized by the Finder to add to the Devices list.  The Canon wouldn't get added to the Devices list in OSX 10.4.11, either.
ImageCapture could easily see the images on the camera, and could copy them to a HD without difficulty.  But it's not LR3, and nothing convinced the Finder to add the camera to the Devices.
    Cure:
What I did find, eventually, as a method for persuading LR3 to import properly is this:
I set ImageCapture to open itself when it recognizes a camera.
I jack in the camera, and ImageCapture opens.
THEN I open LR3.  It comes up with the present images in the library.
I _click_ on the Import button (lower left), OR use the keyboard command (cmd-shift-I).  It opens the import display, _with_ the images from the camera.
I set the LR3 import settings as I want them - I Copy the files, change file names, presets, etc. as desired.  (I make a habit not to erase the camera files, until all is said and done, and the camera is disconnected from the computer.)
I click the Import button, and it does!
    SUCCESS!
If I have it open ImageCapture first, that seems to persuade LR3 that images are on the camera.
Sometimes iPhoto accomplishes the same end, but I'd rather not launch that - subsidiary issues.
I went through this sequence a number of times, starting from neither software open.  I tried different sequences - LR3 then ImageCapture, camera first or last, etc.  The above sequence worked reliably; the others' responses confused me.
Those of you with similar Canon uploading problems, see if this helps any.  If you don't have ImageCapture, try it with iPhoto instead.  Just open it first.
sandrift71, does this answer your original question & resolve the problem for you?

  • Lightroom 4.2 stopped mid way through tethering with Canon 1DX.  any suggestions?

Lightroom 4.2 stopped mid way through tethering with Canon 1DX.  Top left corner bar read still transferring, but all images had already been viewed in preview of tether and i had given it an etxra 15 minutes to contine transferring until I rebooted everything.  I restarted several times while client waited, but LR would no longer accept tethered images any longer.  Any suggestions?

Well, the EOS Utility was incompatable with OSX for quite awhile and once LR appeared to support tethering, I migrated away from it. Until yesterday.
The workflow is still wonky, if you want to use LR for display/printing (which I do), but it's doable.
There are tutorials online, I remember finding them (sorry no links) years ago.
The main bugaboo is creating the appropriate folders in the right order. Both LR and EOS Utility are really picky about those folders (have to be empty, both apps picky about that, so you'll probably have to manually empty after firing off a couple of test images).
I always forget how I did it, but last night's kind of fresh in my mind — I think the order that worked for me was:
create a destination folder in EOS Utility
in LR's auto-import settings, choose the step #1 folder as the watched folder (you've got to do this before putting a single thing in that folder, which will likely mean manually tossing some test images, because if you don't LR will ***** at you that the folder must be empty.)
below that in the same window, create a Destination folder. (don't know why this is necessary, but it is)
Finally, I suggest doing all this in one parent folder and creating a shortcut to that folder somewhere very convenient so that you want drive yourself crazy in the inevitable opening, closing and reopening of these folders, trying to troubleshoot. :-)

  • Lightroom 4 won't import or playback video

Hi. I previously submitted this question last year for Lightroom 4.1 (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1045374). I never did get any responses.
Since then, I tried formatting and re-installing my OS (OS X 10.7). There was a brief window at that time when Lightroom was able to import and playback video files. Then I made the mistake of re-installing Photoshop CS6 (because it frequently forgets that I'm a registered and licensed user of the program and reverts to Trial mode, which is very annoying) because I read on a forum somewhere that that would help. Since then, Lightroom has stopped being able to import videos or play back any videos that I have in my catalog. I am now up to Lightroom 4.4 on OS X 10.8. Here is the system info screen from Lightroom. If anyone has any suggestions for how to fix this, I'd appreciate it.

  • Lightroom and MAC Pro (intel) after Snow Leopard Upgrade?

I have heard several horror stories about serious operational problems with Lightroom and MACs after they have upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard.
I have been trying to get to the bottom of it, but all I have been able to glean is that yes, there are some issues, but I can't find out cause and effect.
Since I heard of the things I have not opened any Adobe Software, and won't until I can be assured that I too don't experience the same horror story.
Are there any people out there that have experienced any of these problems?  If so, do you know what caused them, and, more importantly, how to fix them?
Thank you for any help and direction you can provide.

Some users have reported that Edit in Photoshop CSx functionality is partially broken (e.g. Open as Smart Object launches Photoshop, but image doesn't actually open).
With Photoshop (and many other applications) there are reports of the application crashing when the user tries to save a JPG file.
    Source of problem? Snow Leopard
Is it really the problem that some would have you believe? Nope
Are there any workarounds? Ask Apple
BTW: I use Snow Leopard and don't have a problem recommending it to others.
