Lightroom and Photoshop open dialog instantly closes

Whenever I try to open a file in Lightroom or Photoshop the dialog appears and instantly disappears? I cannot open anything.... !! Any ideas?

LR and PS were working fine before the upgrade. The installation is vanilla default without any changes during the standard setup.
I did double check the Camera Raw versions and PS shows ACR version 8.2.0.94. LR shows ACR version 8.2. I reinstalled again.
This morning I ran the following tests:
1) Import a CR2 file into LR.
2) Make copies - JPEG, DNG, TIFF and PSD.
3) Tried to "Edit in PS CS6"
a. JPEG - Opened in PS, edited in PS, saved back to LR with no errors.
b. TIFF - Opened in PS, edited in PS, saved back into LR with no errors.
c. DNG - PS opened but remained blank, no photo file loaded.
d. CR2 - PS opened but remained blank, no photo file loaded.
e. PSD - Opened in PS, edited in PS, saved back to LR with no errors.
4) Tried to "Open as a Smart Object in PS"
a. JPEG - Opened in PS, edited in PS, saved back to LR with errors.
b. TIFF - Opened in PS, edited in PS, saved back into LR with errors.
c. DNG - Opened in PS, edited in PS, saved back into LR with errors.
d. CR2 - Opened in PS (not camera raw), edited in PS, saved back into LR with errors.
e. PSD - Opened in PS, edited in PS, saved back into LR with errors.
In each of the cases in #4, the edited file did make it back to LR edited and syncing the directory brought them in.
I have checked the permissions on the files and folders and everything is correct. This is puzzling.

    Hello,

PPI is the correct word for an image's resolution.
As for printing: ask the service provider what's best for their workflow. It totally depends on the process, on the hardware, on the paper and on the size of the print.
For video: use screen resolution unless you want to enlarge the footage in the video.
    Additionally:
read the manual of the video software in use
    read about printing:
Search for the "Creative Suite® 6 Printing Guide" in your preferred search engine.

I have a Windows desktop and an iPad. Will I have any compatibility issues with PC and Mac? Can I store my photos in Lightroom and eliminate my Dropbox account? Thanks.

You shouldn't have any compatibility issues. But you don't store images "in" Lightroom. Lightroom simply points to wherever the images are on your system. You might like to watch a few videos that can help you understand how Lightroom works.

You can right click the tab and choose "Close Tab" to close a tab.
Some menu entries are hidden by default and only appear if you use the keyboard to open the menu.
You can see the difference if you use Alt+F or Alt+B to open the "File" and "Bookmarks" menu and compare that to what you see if you use the mouse to open the menu after you have made the menu bar visible by pressing Alt or by pressing F10.
Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

I had a trial version of CC Lightroom and Photoshop. Purchased the LR/PS Photographer deal. Lightroom seems to be running as a purchased app. But, Photoshop still says I have X number of days in my trial.

I installed LR 6/CC from Creative Cloud but it fails to open and while fixing it I uninstall all prevously installed apps (LR, Bridge, Photoshop CC)
Now I able to install/open LR6 but it reverted back to trial version and same issue with other apps.

  • Photoshop Open dialog does not show all files

I've been noticing that unconsitantly the Photoshop Open dialog does not show all PSD files in a folder, some are just plain missing. In Finder they show up like normal though. Anyone else with this problem?

The open and save dialogs are provided and mostly run by the OS, not the application.
It sounds like you might have a filter set on your open dialog (like the search option).

  • Why am I seeing very dark images in Lightroom and Photoshop?

I've just installed a new monitor - pretty much the same as the old one. CC was working fine on the old monitor but on the new one files opened in both Lightroom and Photoshop are very dark. I also see, briefly, a yellow triangle in the image when it opens. Are there setttings I need to change?

Are you using any sort of screen calibration?  If you are, did you disable it before attaching the new monitor?
What operating system are you using?

There is that pitfall in buying HiDpi laptops for Windows.
Only Photoshop CC 2014 has the option to scale the UI 200% in order to make it usable on these hires screens.
CC and earlier does not have this and Adobe would have to retrofit them. Not likely with older products.

  • Blotchy image in Lightroom and Photoshop/difficulty waking from sleep

I am suddenly having problems with my 15" 2.4ghz MacBook Pro. There are two problems actually, the first is that I am not looking at gradient colours when I open an image in Photoshop or view it in Lightroom. The image looks blotchy, almost as if I had set my monitor to 256 colours, when in fact my monitor setting is 1440 x 900 at MILLIONS of colours. I don't have this problem with every image, only those I'm viewing in Lightroom and Photoshop.
The second problem is in waking my Mac from sleep, sometimes it just won't wake up and I have to do a forced shutdown and then re-start.
Does anyone know a fix for either problem?

    *A few suggestions:*
Change the energy saving options, to put the display to sleep and the computer to sleep at the same time.
Enable (check mark) put the hard disk to sleep when possible.
    Lock the padlock.
    Optional: Repair permissions &/or restart.

Check your Energy Saver settings to make sure they are correct.

  • Color spaces in Lightroom and Photoshop

I read that Lightroom uses the large ProPhoto color Space and then again, that it's gamma curve ist close to sRGB. So what is my color space when working in Lightroom? ProPhoto, or sRGb, or something else?
And what kind of a color management workflow between Photoshop and Lightroom do you advocate? Using ProphotoRGB or sRGB as color work space in Photoshop? I used to work in AdobeRGB in Photoshop. Has this to be changed to gain maximum color consistency?
    Thanks again for any help!
    Johann M Ginther

    Hey Claude,
if it did not have an attached profile it is almost definitely in sRGB or, more rarely, Apple RGB. Lightroom always assumes sRGB for untagged files which is typically a safe bet. Photoshop generally uses the working space for untagged images. Since you had adobeRGB there, you should get a more saturated image in photoshop then in Lightroom. The same data is simply interpreted in a different color space leading to different colors. This has nothing to do with the monitor profile therefore and my initial hunch was wrong. So for untagged images in photoshop, you should usually assign sRGB to them instead of working space.
    >As for calibration hardware we do use them here so I will use it but since the Mac was brand new out the box I assumed that it was ok...
Unfortunately, in general the canned calibration is not very good on Macs. I find very large differences between the shipped profile and a profile generated by a calibrator. Also, Apple ships profiles that set your display's gamma to 1.8 instead of the standard 2.2. This leads to many images in webbrowsers being too low contrast. Even Apple suggests recalibrating your screen at 2.2 if you do digital photography work (it's in their Aperture help files). In this case though the difference between Lightroom and Photoshop had nothing to do with the monitor profile but was related to photoshop interpreting untagged files in its working space instead of the more likely sRGB space.

  • COLOR DISPLAY IN LIGHTROOM AND PHOTOSHOP

Hi I am a new user of Lightroom but a longtime user of Photoshop.
    My question is this:
When opening the exact same TIFF file in Lightroom and Photoshop CS3 is there a way to configure Lightroom so that it will display the image exactly like Photoshop ? I mean the difference that I get is not dramatic but if there is a way to make it perfect I would love to know.
    Thanks,
    Claude from Montreal
