Lightroom export actions crashes photoshop

Hello
This is a problem that has eluded me for a while. Im running Lightroom 3 and photoshop cs5 (both have the latest updates) . Now I've created droplets that run various actions. In lightroom I export images and use export actions dialog box to have lightroom run the droplet.
However now I get a "photoshop cs5 has stopped responding" and a "droplets can not communicate with photoshop.
Im running windows 7 64bit
Things I've tried
restarting both programs
rebooting the computer
running lightroom and photoshop as an admin
recreating the droplets and telling windows to run the droplets as an admin
Any help would be appreciated!!

  • Lightroom Export Action and Automator

Hi. Have an interesting anamoly that I hope someone an explain to me. I am trying to leverage Adobe Lightroom's export preset post-processing option to help in importing photos into iPhoto (where I can make easy use of the .mac photocasts). I created an Automator workflow comprised of the following actions: 1) Get Specified Finder items (with the export folder from Lightroom selected) 2) Get Folder Contents 3) Import Photos into iPhoto (with the delete source option selected).
I placed the Automator app, named "Import to iPhoto" into the Lightroom "Export Actions" folder and selected it in the post-processing drop down in my export preset. When exporting from this preset, the file(s) are exported as expected, however, for some reason the Automator action imports duplicate files into iPhoto for each photo exported. If the photos are exported separately without the post-processing export action, and then the Automator action is run manually, there are no duplicate files imported. Does anybody have any ideas what might be occuring here?

  • Lightroom exports files to Photoshop as PSD

Is there a way to export a file to Photoshop as a DNG rather than a PSD

Unfortunately, your only choices for exporting to Photoshop are PSD or TIFF. You can set which you like in Preferences -> External editing.

    Hi Ashley Clavette,
The Initial view setting works perfectly when the file is opened in Acrobat after setting the desired Initial View.
When you upload the file onto Wordpress, and view it on that website in the browser...it might be using a different pdf handler program which might be causing this issue ( it would be helpful, if you could provide the screenshot) , however when you download the pdf again from wordpress server...and open in Acrobat/Reader...then what  exactly happens ?  Does the pdf opens in the desired Initial View setting?

  • Lightroom 4.3 and Photoshop CS5 Crashing

For several months, I have been trying to troubleshoot random blue-screen crashes when (and only when) using Lightroom 4.3 and Photoshop CS5 in Windows 7 64-bit.  The Windows stop error code is always 124 (hardware related).  The crash dump files have not provided much help. They just keep referring to "ntoskrnl.exe" and "hal.dll" as possible causes, but that doesn't help isolate specific hardware.  Without going into all the excrutiating details of what I have done to try to find a hardware problem, I am now 99% sure that hardware is NOT causing the crashes.  I recently ran "Who Crashed, Professional Edition 4.01" to analyze the crash dump files.  It identified "cameraraw.dll" and "tliadjust50.dll" (a file installed byTopaz Labs plug-ins Adjust 4, DeNoise 5, and Fusion Express 2) as possible causes of the crashes.  I would like to refresh "cameraraw.dll" to determine if it is in fact causing the problem.  My question is how to replace my existing "cameraraw.dll" file with a new one.  Can I just download a new "cameraraw.dll" file (from where?) and replace my existing "cameraraw.dll"?  Or, do I have to reinstall LR4 and/or CS5 to refresh "cameraraw.dll"?  I really hope I don't have to do that, because I think I would probably have to also reinstall all the third-party plug-ins and extensions I have installed to work with  LR4 and CS5, and that would be a major pain.  Does anyone have any suggestions/

  • 2 different problems using Export Action

I'm using LR 1.1 and Photoshop CS3 on a MacPro and PowerBook. I created an identical Action in PS to use as an Export Action in LR. It was to export .dng files, open them, run Noise Ninja (many were high ISO shots), and some other things.
On one Mac, the files would only open in Adobe Raw Converter, so I'd still have to click to go further for each. With the other, I'd get an error message immediately in Photoshop once the file opened, saying "Feather Command not available". (I had done nothing consciously in creating the Actions (later Droplets) to put in such a command.
My guest teacher, who knows Photoshop (and Lightroom) far better than I, knows of now reason why such a "feather" error would come up.
Any reason why an Action written to be identical except for where the files are ultimately saved should work so differently on 2 Macs (both with OS 10.4.9)? Or how I can cure these problems? I'd love to be able to write more Actions to Droplets I can use as Export Actions from LR. (And some I've written *do* work, just not the last couple...)

I've modified the script so that it now actually works as I want it to (more-or-less).
I will look into using Get-Hotfix instead of WMIC to check that I am happy with the returned data.

  • Lightroom Exporting V Small jpeg

    Hi,
    Hope someone can help.
I am doing minor edits in lightroom, before exporting jpgs to Photoshop for creative edits.
Even using the maximum export size, a 20mb RAW file turns into a 4mb jpg. Then, when further edits are done in Photoshop, and resaved (using Autoloader), the file size reduces to just 2mb.
The image dimensions are constant throughout, 3960 × 2640. This doesn't seem right to me. I have checked setting again and agin, and from what I can see max file sizes are being used.
I want to give clients image larger than 2mb. Can someone help?
    Thanks in advance
    Rich

    Workflow will be:
    RAWs in folder A
Edit in Lightroom the acceptable photos, and export to Folder B as TIF
Open Folder B images in PS and Edit accordingly, then save in Folder C
On completion, folder B (TIF's will be deleted)
(these are usually wedding photos, so ultimately, the RAW's will be deleted too, leaving just the jpgs as back up)
You are just making extra work for yourself by putting these things in separate folders. They could all go in a single folder, with no confusion whatsoever.
Furthermore, it seems that no one has discussed this yet, but EXPORT to Photoshop isn't really the best way to go. You would want to use the Lightroom command Edit In ... (right click on a photo and select Edit In), this is a better workflow since once you have saved the edits from Photoshop and close the image in Photoshop, the edited photo now appears in LR withou you having to import it.
I don't understand why you would want to delete the RAWs and TIFs, to my mind this is a horrible practice. If you do that, you can never go back; the best you quality you will ever have is the quality of the JPGs. Now I don't know your business, but it seems to me if the clients ever ask for the photos to be re-edited in some way, you're going to have to start from the JPGs rather than the RAWs, and this will never result in as "high quality" as if you start from the RAWs.
Lastly, "leaving just the jpgs as back up" -- no, the JPGs are not backup, they are unrelated to the concept of backup; and furthermore they are the only copy of the photo you have. If your hard disk crashes, your photos are lost. You now have ZERO copies of these photos, and I'm guessing that both you and your clients would be very unhappy about that. A true high quality backup strategy would be to save the RAWs, and save the TIFs and make backups of both on a different physical disk. Then you have originals and at least one backup on a different disk. The JPGs are what is truly expendable here.

  • 8bit processing works, 16bit processing crashes Photoshop

If I open a .CR2 file (from either a Rebel Xsi or a 5D Mark II or a .nef file from a Nikon D700) in Camera Raw (5.2) from Bridge I can manipulate the file in Camera Raw. However, after I finish Camera Raw adjustment, if I have Camera Raw set to 8 bits per channel I can open the file into Photoshop (CS4). But if I have Camera Raw set for 16 bit output Photoshop crashes when I click the Camera Raw open button.
I can also open, manipulate and print these file in Lightroom, but if I try to export from Lightroom to Photoshop, the export crashes Photoshop. This is new behavior.
Clearly the problem is not specific to the type of raw file I am processing.
I am running Mac OSX 1.4.11 on a G5 Intel tower with 4G of RAM.
Any ideas why 8 bit conversion works and 16 bit doesn't?

I have concluded that this was a Photoshop problem, not a Camera Raw problem because Photoshop crashes when I try to use Image->Mode to change a 8 bit file to a 16 bit file. (Also resolved the problem by cloning a backup drive to my boot drive.)

  • Lightroom 5.6 crashing, not able to import or back up changes

I have been having issues with Lightroom 5.6 for few days now. I have been working from this Lightroom install for a year now problem free. The problem seems to happen when I try to import pictures. At first I thought it was my SD card but I copied the pictures to my desktop and was not able to import from the file on my desktop. It will start to download a few out of 400 and stop at 2 or 3 pictures then freeze. A message pops up that says "Lightroom encountered a problem and needs to quit" When i try to open Lightroom again I will get a message that says "The last time Lightroom ran, it shut down prematurely due to a problem reading the catalog. Lightroom must now check the catalog before proceeding." It will proceed to check integrity of the catalog then another message pops up saying it was repaired successfully. When I try to open, same stuff happens all over again.
I have not moved any files around through the external hard drive and there are no images in the catalog that are "missing." So I'm a little confused as to why Lightroom suddenly keeps crashing.
I am able to export images from the same catalog, I am able to edit pictures as I normally would, but I am unable to Back up the changes or import new files. I tried working from a different external hard drive and the same thing happens.
    Please help!!

Are you able to import 450D raw files into LR5.5via USB connection and are you on Windows 7/8?
I agree with your observations concerning SD vs CF card fragility, but they also have a limited number of insertions before failure.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#Durability
The newer Micro-USB receptacles are designed for up to 10,000 cycles of insertion and removal between the receptacle and plug, compared to 1,500 for the standard USB and 5,000 for the Mini-USB receptacle. This is accomplished by adding a locking device and by moving the leaf-spring connector from the jack to the plug, so that the most-stressed part is on the cable side of the connection. This change was made so that the connector on the less expensive cable would bear the most wear instead of the more expensive micro-USB device.
All my Canon cameras have micro-USB connectors. With one (1) insertion and removal per day that equals 10,000 days, or about 27 years before end-of-life! SD and CF cards are also rated at ~10,000 insertion and removals, but more prone to damage from static electricity and handling due to the exposed contacts and fragility of CF card sockets.
So there's no real advantage from the camera wear perspective to using a card reader. I'd say use whatever method is easiest for your workflow, but handle memory cards with care and avoid exposing them to static discharge.  Ground yourself to something metal before removing memory cards and inserting them into the card reader, especially in cold Winter months.
BTW- I helped design one of the first semiconductor DRAM memory systems back in 1970. We killed more memory chips than I care to count before we discovered they were easily damaged by static electricity. Today's ICs have built-in protection, but you can still damage them with a big enough static ZAP!

    1. You have allowed Apple to auto-upgrade your Mac
    Turn off auto-update here:
Menu > Apple > System Preferences > App Store
    2. The Icons on your dock are Aliases not real apps
They point to where the apps really are which is:
For Pages 5.2.2 in your Applications folder
For Pages '09 in your Applications/iWork folder
    3. You are alternately opening documents randomly with either version of Pages
Both Pages have the same file extension .pages and there is no certainty as to which version opens them when you double click on a file.
right click on the file and choose which version you want to open it
    4. Pages '09 can not open Pages 5 files
Pages 5 can not open Pages '08 files, and will convert and change Pages '09 and Word files.
It will also auto save opened files into its own format.
You can export these back to Pages '09 if you need to:
    Menu > File > Export > Pages '09
    5. Yes Pages 5.2.2 is a marked downgrade
Pages 5.2.2 has a few improvements but has had over 110 features removed and is buggy.
Sooner or later you will not be able to open a file or have it damaged in some way and it has a complex obscure file format largely incompatible with everything else, so you will not be able to rescue the contents of your file. If Pages or some third party server/eMail don't trash your file, eventually Apple will do it for you as it did when it released Pages 5 last September. I recommend using Pages '09 for the time being whilst you look for viable alternatives, some are here already and some are on the way.

  • Very slow Lightroom 4.4 to Photoshop CS6 in Windows 8

I have a problem with my Windows 8 computer. Please notice that on this computer I did not change any of the default settings in the operating system, it is a clean install of Windows 8. I have also installed the latest version of Photoshop and Lightroom directly from my Adobe Application Manager software (I am a Creative Cloud member).
What happens is that I have to wait 30-50 seconds after I give, in Lightroom, the command "Modify in -> Photoshop CS6" (I have the software in Italian and I hope that this translation is correct. Here is the command that I am using:
The very strange thing that happens is that Photoshop opens fast (5 seconds, I have an SSD) and Lightroom is very fast too.
Here is the strange thing. Photoshop opens after I launch the command.
Then nothing seems to happen for 30-50 seconds (sometimes also more time). After this “long” period of time this error appears in Lightroom:
It says: "you can't modify this file because Photoshop CS6 can't be started". However, this is not true! Photoshop is running correctly, and it was running! This happens if Photoshop was started from Lightroom and if Photoshop was running before Lightroom command "Modify in -> Photoshop CS".
Another strange thing is that, after I press "OK" to this error message, the file immediately opens in Photoshop!
Please notice that this behavior happens also with a series of file. If, for example, I export 10 files from Lighroom, then, after about one minute, I get 10 error messages in Lightroom, and, when I press OK, the files will open in Photoshop (for each "OK" that I press a file opens, so I have to press 10 times OK to open my 10 files!).
This very strange behavior is eating my time and I am very disappointed! It is very difficult to get in touch with Adobe support and I decided to use this forum to get some help. After you pay monthly for the Cloud software you wish that a good support came included with what you pay, but it seems that this is not true!
Please help me if you can!

    Vittorio,
    1. At this point my suggestion would be first to check are you the Admin of your system or not.
    2. Try uninstall and Photoshop first and make sure you select the option Remove Preferences when you doing an uninstall.
    3. After that try a fresh install of Photoshop.
    4. If that doesnt help try uninstall and reinstall or LR & PS too by same way.

  • Edit in Photoshop CS6 Crashes Photoshop

    Hey!
Using Lightroom 4.4 on a Macbook Pro with 10.8.2 installed. Every time I chose a photo (or photos) from Lightroom and select any of the "Edit in Photoshop CS6" options, it will open Photoshop, temporarily open the images, and then crash Photoshop completely.
    Any suggestions?

I am baffled. I have uninstalled all the Adobe products on my computer/reinstalled, set up a new catalog in Lightroom, tried having them both open at the same time prior to selecting edit in Photoshop, but it still happens every time.
I did find out that selecting "Open as Smart Object in Photoshop" does not crash it though, which I thought was strange.
    Any input?

Lightroom 4.4 crashed on Windows 7 Laptop today, lost catalog info, won't import half my images.
Not only is LR messed up, it deleted my day's shooting. Can't believe that.
Now it won't import (i.e. re-import) half my files.
Imported half, but had errors importing rest.
    Corrupt catalog?
When I try to import the folders, it recognizes that they are in the catalog (I have "don't import duplicates" turned on).
After running through all the folders, it says, "Nothing to Import."
    Any help?
    Best,
    Peter

    Thanks dj_paige.
I installed a plugin, coincidence makes me thinks this might have cause a LR4.4 crash.
After rebooting my windows 7 laptop, LR had lost record of half my directories on the external drive, as seen in Library Module.
In Windows Explorer, the folders and images are still there.
I tried recovering the lost folder references in LR by doing an import on the external hard drive again.
It took about a half hour to run.
There was a report screen at the end of the process that said that LR was unable to import something like 1500 images.
I did not save the report screen. Maybe it is part of a log file somewhere to give you what it exactly said?
I do not profess to understand how catalogues work under the covers.
I only use one catalog at this point.
My guess is at this point I should de-commission the catalog (whatever it takes to do that - delete it, etc.) and just do a new, fresh import on my images.
I don't feel I lose anthing this way - I can't see where I would lose anything important. About 5-10% of the RAW images were processed and exported to jpg, just for web use for casual viewing. The jpg's are all still on the external hard drive.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Peter
