Lightroom Mobile Crop Results in Black Screens

I have been successfully using LR Mobile to quickly crop about 1,600 Canon RAW images. Part way through this effort, the cropped images start showing up as black screens. I can three finger tap and get the correctly cropped image to show up, but if I move to a different picture and come back to the cropped picture, the black screen is back.
The images show up correctly cropped in the thumbnails.
Syncing is working fine to my desktop and the image is correctly cropped on my desktop as well.
Other smaller collections do not experience this behavior.

I can duplicate this behavior on OS X 10.10.3.  After the screen goes black after hitting return the L key cycles through the image, gray screen, and black screen with the image also gray and black.  If i hit the right and left arrows to go to a different image and then back to the same image than the L key works as it is supposed to.  Definitely a BUG.

  • Windows 8 HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx Upgrade results in black screen after intallation finalizes.

I have a 2011 HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx with Windows 7 64 bit Home premium installed.  The notebook/laptop has a AMD Radeon HD 6300M series display adapter with driver version 9.2.2.0 dated 9/27/2012 and an ATI technologies Intel HD Graphics display adapter with driver version 8.7771.1.0.  The notebook/laptop has not had a hardware upgrade and contiains the orignal factory OS. BIOS is current to latest available.
The issue I had while upgrading to Windows 8 is after the install finalizes (settings and preferences are entered) and the system boots to the tiles screen, the display works fine.  Clicking to the desktop works only for a few moments before the screen goes dark. Pressing the power button and/or closing/opening the lid results in at times a black screen (no power to the screen) or black screen (power to the screen) or a black screen where only the mouse pointer is visible and moves around the screen.  Restarting the computer results in a repeat of the issue at times while other times it will boot directly to what appears to be the windows desktop. You can interact with the file folder icon on the task bar as well as internet explorer, and you can get the charms bar and tile screen. Any attempt to open computer management or any control panel or task manager will open the window as an icon on the task bar.  You can mouseover the icon to "preview" a small version of the window but you can not click on it to maximize.
    I attempted the following workarounds:
    1) Clean install of Windows 8: Installs but fails with same result as above
Refresh PC from windows 8 rescue media: Works slightly longer until AMD driver fails and then reverts to situation above.
    2) Uninstalling all display adapters (via computer management) and then upgrading to Windows 8: Results in microsoft drivers getting installed, works much as refresh above until AMD driver fails and then reverts to above situation.
    3) In Scenarios 1 and 2,  I also tried to use windows update within Win8 to update the drivers there are updated MS drivers available ,(dated as late as 10/27/2012) but intalling those drivers also resulted in a failure of the adapter within a short period of time as did NOT updating the drivers.
    4) Disabling display adapters and then restarting:  Results in a BSOD (Blue Screen) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Stop: 0x0000000A error during boot as the OS runs into trouble with the driver before Windows 7 boots.  This happens if one or both drivers are disabled.
    5) Disabling display adapters before in-place upgrade to Windows 8 results in the Windows 8 equivalent of a BSOD and results in the system shutting down and then reverting to Windows 7.
Through research, I determined some ppl had luck connecting another monitor/HD TV through VGA/HDMI and then using the function-screen button to switch, with my system this resulted in the same issue displayed on the TV/Monitor. There are also updates to ATI and Catalyst center available including drivers and installing these do not remedy the issue. Intel was checked and there are no drivers available as HP uses a "custom" driver for intel.  Attempting to install any of these Intel drivers will result in a fail with a compatiblity error.
Windows 8 has no safe mode ability from the windows 8 rescue media disk, you cannot F-8 as you could in the preview. Safe mode must be reached via charms, settings, startup and then selecting safe mode as a boot option, which is not available as the display adapter malfunctions.  In those scenarios where I was able to get a windows desktop to boot up as in the first paragaph I can get to the restart settings via charms, but clicking to bring up the restart menu requires another window to open which is only visible as a "preview" on the windows task bar.
if you are going to attempt to try any of these,
    1) Use a third party software to image your pre-win 8 upgrade system that you can boot into from USB or CD;
    2) Before starting the process, disable the UAC prompt and remove any passwords from logon, as those things will require you to interact with the OS and you will not be able to do this when the adapters fail.  The screen will shadow out as it usually does but the prompt will not be viewable.
    3) Create an ISO image of the Win8 install media and write down the product key. If you are able to get a successful boot, before the drivers fail, create a Windows 8 rescue media disk.
I spoke with HP tech support this morning (10/29/2012) they are aware of the issues and they lie with the display adapters.  They are working toward a solutuion but there are none available at this time and no date when they will be available.  They recommend checking the support website and having the web page autoscan your PC as the drivers will show there when they are posted and they will be installable from Windows 7 so there will be no issue with upgrading to Windows 8.  Bottom line, do not upgrade to Windows 8 at this time.
MS Tech support escalation tier reps also informed me there is no present workaround available.
Hope this helps and saves somebody some time!
    JJ

My laptop sat at BestBuy from Friday night until today (10-31-12)! They couldn't figure out how to fix the problem so I finally told them to revert my latop back to Windows 7! I hope HP reads these and will hurry up and make the updates needed so that I can run Windows 8 on my Laptop! I just bought mine in July of last year there is nothing wrong with it and after dropping about $1200.00 for my dv7-4285dx along with the Best Buy Geek Squad package I do not feel like having to drop more money into another laptop!! PLEASE HURRY AND FIX THIS I DIDN"T DROP $69.99 plus tx to not be able to use Windows 8! Even before I did the upgrade I had the GEEk Squad check to make sure I could make the upgrade and was told this laptop well surpasses the required minium to run Windows 8!!!!!!

  • Slideshow in Lightroom 5.5 Mac Yields Black Screen

I just discovered that the slideshow functionality in Lightroom 5.5 on my Mac yields only a black screen.
This is the case for both impromptu slideshows (CMD-Return) and the Slideshow module.
From a Google search and looking over topics in this forum, I've found other posts describing this identical problem for both Mac and Windows versions of Lightroom going back to the original introduction of Lightroom 5 over a year ago.
I've been using Lightroom on various Mac computers since the first Lightroom beta release over 10 years ago. I generally don't use the slideshow functionality of the program, so I was quite surprised to discover yesterday that it's not working in Lightroom 5.5. I originally tried to preview/play a slideshow with 100 photos--some Olympus Raw files and some Canon JPEG files. I have since replicated this problem with a test collection of 5 JPEG images.
I know that the slideshow functionality used to work back in Lightroom 3 and 4. I hadn't tried to use it in Lightroom 5.x until now, so I don't know when it became broken, but it's definitely broken now...and from reading various posts here on Adobe forums and in related non-Adobe forums, it appears that Adobe has yet to acknowledge that this problem exists...which I find surprising and disappointing.
The only work around seems to be to export a PDF slideshow from the Lightroom 5.5 Slideshow module, which does produce a full-screen slideshow PDF. But, the slideshow functionality should work directly in Lightroom, as well.
    DETAILS:
Hardware: Mac Book Pro Retina -- fully loaded (2.6 GHz Intel Core I7, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB graphics card, External Apple 27" Cinema Monitor connected via Thunderbolt)
OS: Mac OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks
    LR Version: Lightroom Mac 5.5
Problem 1: Impromptu Slideshow (pressing CMD-Enter/Return keys from Library/Develop modules) causes:
    1. spinning beachball for seconds to minutes depending on how many images are in current folder/collection
    2. followed by "Preparing Preview progress bar
    3. followed by entirely black screen. Pressing forwards/backwards arrows do nothing; pressing ESC or mouse click returns to Lightroom module
Problem 2: Slideshow Module - Clicking Preview button (or Preview triangle under slideshow window) causes:
    1. Preparing Preview progress bar
    2. followed by slideshow window turning completely black.
Pressing forwards/backwards arrows does nothing; pressing ESC or clicking mouse returns slideshow window to display of slideshow layout
Clicking the Play Slideshow button exhibits exactly the same behavior as above, except that my entire screen blacks out instead of just Lightroom's slideshow window.

    I’m disappointed

    Update:
Just upgraded from Lightroom Mac 5.5 to 5.6.
Per my post above, creating an impromptu slideshow (CMD-Return) or using the Slideshow module produces either a completely black preview or a completely black full-screen slideshow.
While Adobe addressed other issues and bugs in Lightroom 5.x, they apparently did not address the slideshow functionality in this release, alas....

  • Lightroom 5 slideshow shows a black screen

Please help, I have upgrade to 5.2 but still have the same problem whith black screen.

Not sure who'll be able to help you how, but I work-around my in-Lr5 slideshow problems by using ShowBiz plugin.

  • Upowerd result in black screen about every half minute

after update today, my gnome will go to black screen every half minute (indeed, 20~30seconds), the black screen will last 2seconds.
after killed the /usr/lib/UPower/UPowerd, all are OK again.
    anyone know the reason???
I'm using a DELL desktop computer.
if kill the powerd, and manual run it:
after every black screen, I can see follow string on terminal:

OMFG. i cannot believe my eyes.
do not remove it. first debug the problem, then report it to upstream bugtracker  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug. … uct=upower and then downgrade the upower package.
heck you can even ask upstream on the ml. http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/li … vkit-devel
after that i suggest to paste at least your bugreport number here: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/22586
    howto downgrade: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Downgrade

  • [solved] startx results in black screen -- no errors logged

    Hi there.
I was setting my keyboard to be us_intl (as described here).
I added the following to ~/.fluxbox/startup:
    setxkbmap us -variant intl &
Worked fine... but what I was wanting a different mapping so I changed it back to just US. Now when I run startx, I just get a blank screen. I didn't change anything else in any config file between when now and when it was working and I have changed that line back to what it reads above. No dice.
I turned on logging with fluxbox and the log is not being written to, so something pretty strange has gone wrong.
I see no errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log, but here it is:

A simpler way would be to start xterm for instance - in your ~/.xinitrc:
    exec xterm
That way you can see if it's fluxbox that is causing the trouble. And by the way your ~/.fluxbox/startup should read this (assuming it's not a typo in the first line there):
    #!/bin/sh
    # Set background image.
    feh --bg-scale '/home/brian/.fluxbox/wall.jpg'
    # Start fluxbox
    exec fluxbox -log "/home/brian/.fluxbox/current.log"
Also, once you know X works, you can then try just starting fluxbox "exec fluxbox", without the startfluxbox script.  Comment out the conditional statement also.  If that works, then it is either the startfluxbox or the conditional.
Edit: Looks like you got it fixed.  congrats.

  • Catalyst installation resulted in black screen

I installed AMD catalys drivers from the catalys repository and installed xvba as well.
I generated new Xorg.conf file using the aticonfig --initial
Now the issue is after reboot everything works file , kms and booting but as soon as display manager needs to be loaded (kdm/gdm) the screen goes complete black.
I cannot even switch back and forth to ttys.
Same thing happened with recover mode as well..
Any idea how am I suppose to sort the issue ?
    Please do help.
    Regards

Catalyst doesn't support KMS, like I said in the last post. Blacklist radeon in your modprobe.conf file and add "nomodeset" to your grub line.
If you've set up early start KMS, you'll want to remove the radeon module from mkinitcpio and rebuild your initramfs.
The relevant section on this in the wiki is about halfway down under "Configuration."
Edit: Probably should had added that to get in to make these changes, you'll either need to chroot in or maybe just appending "nomodeset" to your grub line will work (and booting to runlevel 3 or 1).

  • TS3533 How can I shut down my PowerBook wiyh retina display in case of black screen and nonresponsive keyboard after sleep?

Installed OS 10.82 and EFI update and put the system to sleep. Trying to wake it again resulted in black screens and an irresponsive keyboard: there seems to be no way to shut the system down in this case. My solution was to unplug the machine and let it blow the fans and run "by itself" untill it after several hours shut down because of low battery charge. After plugging it in again, it would start on key board command and now works fine.
Question: Is emptying the battery really the only way shut the laptop down in this case?

All you should need to do is push and hold the on/off button for a few seconds. It should shut it down cold.
If it doesn't you may have a defective machine.

  • Black screen on startx with ati radeon HD4330 Mobility and fglrx

    Hi,
I managed to install Archlinux on my HP Butterfly laptop that's great !
However I am not able to get X running properly.
    lspci|grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M92 LP [Mobility Radeon HD 4300 Series]
Firstly I tried to use the xf86-video-ati open source driver but it made my kernel crash during the module init.
So I am now trying fglrx, and at least my kernel is unharmed.
But all I get is a black screen after running startx.
Here is my X log :

  • Lightroom Mobile not synching when in Lock Screen

LR mobile syncs with my LR collections, no problem. BUT: For the pictures to sync, I need to unlock my iPad and keep it unlocked and screen turned on, otherwise the sync will stop. Can't it just run in the background? When synching a large collection I want to plug my iPad to the power cord and then leave it synching, be it during daytime in the office or at home during night. I will definitely not keep it unlocked in my office.

Agree. This seems to be something needed to be fixed in the next version of Lightroom Mobile: allow Lightroom to be "always on" in the background to complete auto-import/import from camera roll/cloud upload tasks to all be completed in the background - not just when we have the app open and the device unlocked. Perhaps Lightroom needs to include itself in the list of "Background App Refresh" (iOS 8). Perhaps also include a switch in Lightroom's settings whether or not to allow uploads both over cellular and WiFi networks, or WiFi only.
This would make the app much more reliable to make sure that all images are readily available in the desktop version and in our Creative Cloud account.

I had a similar problem, and i found that the photo was of very low resoluton. As a test I resized the image to a lrager resolution using photoshop CS4 and re saved it as JPG. I imported the new saved image and it seem to have fixed the problem.

    Hi 25Z4P,
Could you please take a screenshot of the problem you're encountering. I'm sure it is a black screen like you're describing, but it would be helpful to assess what is happening.
    Thank you.

Unless you held down the Command key when dragging the iPhoto Library package to the flash drive you only copied the library.  How is the flash drive formatted?  If it was not OS X Extended (journaled) the integrity of the library's internal structure was probably compromised.
If you don't have a current backup of your library do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • After updating to iOS 8.1.3 the AirPlay mirroring problem seems to be an result of this. Audio comes out but there's a black screen.

Mirroring my iPhone 6 Plus worked fine before the the iOS 8.1.3 update, but now only audio plays with a black screen, occasionally saying "an error has occurred, please try again later". I have tried many ways to fix this problem, but has been unsuccessful. This happened multiple times in the past too. I'm so mad they never improve and fix this problem. >:( Grrr...

If you are just getting audio then that is not mirroring. Are you going to control centre, tapping airplay and toggling ON mirroring?

    Hi Henry
I've just encountered this problem with one of our computers at work. Hopefully this will help.
It's a Login Window Prefs problem. It's probably corrupted so you need to remove the prefs file.
    1. Startup in safe mode (hold down shift). You should get a login window for the master admin account.
    2. Delete the file: userName>Library>Preferences>com.apple.loginwindow.plist
    3. Restart.
Let me know how you go.
    Cheers
