Lightroom mobile syncing while sleep?

Does putting the ipad into sleep interrupt the syncing process?
and also if "closing" the app without killing it in the multitask view.

Hi. Did you trigger a delete data via LR preferences ->Lightroom mobile.
I'm not seeing a catalog connected to your account.
Did you import originals via the connection-kit?
Thanks

  • Lightroom Mobile Sync Problems

    Hi
My Lightroom Mobile syncing process is running very slow. I deleted the sync.lrdata file and started a new sync of approx 9500 images. Currently I have around 2100 images to sync, however the process has almost stopped. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

    Hi Trev,
Have you tried Syncing in Safe mode on the Mac? This would be to eliminate any processes that might be active in normal mode that might interfeer with the upload. Does you screen has a Retina Display? I have seen some topics where this might create a longer time for generating Smart previews to a smaller size
(iPad/iPhone screen size, compared to the Retina display)
Did you verify a Speedtest for your connection, just to make sure this is not influencing the sync behavior
This you can check for instance with Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test
There are some more topics on the forum where people experience problems using the Sync with a high amount of images in the Catalog.

  • Lightroom 5.4 to Lightroom Mobile sync is soooo slow - why no local sync?

I am testing the new Lightroom 5.4 with Lightoom Mobile. What really annoys me is the fact that all photos are going up to the Creative Cloud. I have private pictures which should be private. Always. No upload. No Cloud sync. It is important!
Speed is the next major problem. LR 5 is way too slow for a fluid workflow. But this is mentioned from other users.
What absolutely makes me sad ist the sync speed of LR5.4 to LR Mobile. 100 Photos took up to 4 hours. On a typical wedding I have 2000+ images. Depending on the speed of the first 100 photos I have to wait 80+ hours? Are you kiddding me? This makes LR Mobile unusable. My clients are expecting results fast. Speed is one factor to the next contract.
Overall, I don't want to sync anything into the Cloud. I want a to use my fast local sync via WiFi or USB. Only those two options. I want to sync photos even without any internet connection successfully and quickly.
I'm fine with authentication with Adobe servers for licensing verification. But that's it. The rest should be configurable by the users whether they Cloud sync or not.

Tom, thank you for taking your time to come here and enlighten us with the decision making process behind what was done. Like it was said before here, the Lightroom Mobile so far has been very, very frustrating. I came home very excited to test it and make my dream come true. To be able to take my catalog (or a shoot) with me on the subway, etc and be able to choose the photos on my iPad. See, I am a photographer and I shoot mainly fashion and beauty, so my workflow starts as soon as I finish shooting by importing all images into Lightroom and then going through the painstaking process of choosing which picture to use. I would shoot anywhere between 5-12 looks in a day, around 100 photos per look and at the end of the process I need to choose only one photo from each look. This normally involves going back multiple times to be able to get to only one from each look. The LR Mobile would have been the perfect solution for me, making me able to look at photos while out of the office, on the subway, at home, etc. It would have made my editing process much faster (or less slow). Instead, I've been sitting and waiting for 6 hours so far and only 18 photos showed up on my iPad (from the 500+ that were chosen to be synced from my desktop LR. Now I know it's not my internet that is making it that slow because I have 80+Mbps of download and 40+Mbps upload. And that haven't helped me much as my LR is stuck on "Syncing 527 photos" for the last 5 hours. Most professional photographers that I know deal with a huge amount of photos from a photoshoot. Wedding, fashion, advertising, we all shoot 1000+ images in any given work day. To come home and have to wait 100 hours before we are able to edit on the iPad is just not useful. This will be useful for the amateur photographer that will take photos of their children/dog/flowers and want to be able to show their guests the photos without having to get them in front of the computer.
Now I understand what you said about having to have a centralized place so that all the clients up to date on the changes, and I think that is great but I also think that it's paramount that there's a different way of syncing, a faster, more efficient way. Even if it is, like mentioned, not a "everything in sync" solution. Something like sync the desktop to the iPad and only those two work together. If both are changed before the next sync, a "the 'blabla' catalog has been changed since you last synced, do you want to overwrite it?" takes care of the problem, much in the same way that Photoshop asks us when we are saving something that has been somewhat modified by some external agent between saves. But the beauty of shooting all day, loading everything in Lightroom at night at the hotel and in the morning catch your flight and edit your shoot on the iPad while traveling, or being able to show the clients on the iPad right after you shot the wedding, or (what I was dreaming was going to be possible just to have my dreams crushed when started to use it) shooting tethered on the job and giving the art director the iPad so that he/she can see the shots without having to stay in front of the computer during the whole shoot. Now THAT would be a game changer! That was what I was expecting from LR Mobile but unfortunately got disappointed. I'd pay for the app alone if it did that!

  • Lightroom Mobile Sync - Extremely High CPU Usage/Sync Process Causes LR To Lag

Since my other thread doesn't seem to be getting any responses, I'm pasting what I've found here. Please keep in mind I am not a beginner with Lightroom and consider myself very familiar with Lightroom's features excluding the new mobile sync.
    1st message:
I'm on Lr 5.5 and using the 30 day trial of Adobe CC to try syncing one collection of slight more than 1000 images. Despite already having generated the Smart Previews, I can see my CPU crunching through image after image (the rolling hills pattern in the task manager) while doing the sync. I was assuming, since I already created the Smart Previews, that the sync of this collection would begin immediately and be done by simply uploading all of the existing Smart Previews. The Smart Previews folder of the catalog is 871MB and has stayed the same despite the CPU obviously doing *something*. As it is now, the sync progress is incredibly slow, almost at a pace like it's actually exporting full-res JPGs from the RAW images (as a comparison only, I know this should not be what it's actually doing).
Another side effect of this is that I'm basically unable to use my computer for other tasks due to the high CPU utilization.
    Win 7 x64 / Lightroom 5.5
    Intel i5 2500k OC'd 4.5GHz
    16GB RAM
SSD for OS, separate SSD for working catalog and files
    2nd message:
As a follow up, now Lightroom thinks all 1026 photos are synced (as shown in "All Sync Photographs" portion of the Catalog though all images after the 832nd image show the sync icon per image stuck at "Building Previews for Lightroom Mobile" and the status at the top left corner has been stuck at "Syncing 194 photos" for over 12 hours. Is there no option to force another sync via Lightroom Desktop and also force the iOS app to manually refresh (perhaps by pulling down on the collections view, like refreshing via the Mail app)?
    3rd message:
One more update, I went into Preferences and deleted all mobile data, which automatically signed me out of Adobe CC and then I signed back in. Please keep in mind the Smart Previews were long generated before even starting the trial, and I also manually generated them again (it ran through quickly since it found they were already generated) many times. Now that I'm re-syncing my collection of 1026 images, I can clearly see Lightroom using the CPU to regenerate the Smart Previews which already exist. I have no idea why it's doing this except that it's making the process of uploading the Smart Previews extremely slow. I hope this time around it will at least sync all 1026 images to the cloud.
    4th message:
All 1026 images synced just fine and I could run through my culling workflow on the iPad/iPhone perfectly. Now I'm on a new catalog (my current workflow unfortunately uses one catalog per event) and I see the same problem: Smart Previews already generated but when syncing, Lightroom seems to re-generate them again anyway (or take up a lot of CPU simply to upload the existing Smart Previews). Can anyone else chime in on what their CPU utilization is like during the sync process when Smart Previews are already created?
    New information:
Now I'm editing a catalog of images that is synced to Lightroom Mobile and notice that my workflow has gotten even slower between photos (relative to what it was before, this is not a discussion about how fast/slow LR should perform). Obviously Lightroom is syncing the edited settings to the cloud, but I can see my CPU running intensively (all 4 cores) on every image I edit and the CPU utilization graph looks different than before I started using LR mobile sync. It still feels like every change isn't simply syncing an SQLite database change but re-generating a Smart Preview to go with it (I'm not saying this is definitely what's happening, but something is intensively using the CPU that wasn't prior to using LR Mobile).
For example: I only update the tint +5 on an image. I see the CPU spike up to around 30-40%, then falls back down, then back up to 100%, then back down to another smaller spike while Lightroom says "Syncing 1 photo".  I've attached a screenshot of my CPU graph when doing this edit on just one image. During this entire time, if I try to move onto edit another image, the program is noticeably slower to respond than it was prior to using LR mobile, due to the fact that there appear to be much more CPU intensive tasks running to sync the previous edit. This is proven by un-syncing the collection and immediately the lag goes away.
I'd be happy to test/try anything you have in mind, because it's my understanding that re-syncing photos that are edited that are already in the cloud should be simply updating the database file rather than require regenerating any Smart Previews or other image data. If indeed that's what it should be doing, then some other portion of LR is causing massive CPU usage. If this continues, I will probably not choose to proceed with a subscription despite the fact that i think LR mobile adds a lot of value and boosts my workflow significantly if it wasn't causing the program to lag so badly in the process.
I know this message was incredibly long and probably tedious to read through so thanks in advance to anyone who gets through it

Thanks for reporting. Just passed  along your info to some of our devs. One of the things that needs to be created (beside smart previews) during an initial sync are thumbnails + previews for the LrM app - Guido
    Hi Guido,
Thanks for pointing this out. I realized the same thing when I tried syncing a collection for offline mode and found out the required space sounded more like Previews + Smart Previews rather than just the Smart Previews.
    greule wrote:
Hi Jeff, are your images particularly large or do you make a lot of changes which you save to the original file as part of your workflow?
The CPU usage is almost certainly from us uploading JPEG previews not the Smart Previews - particularly during develop edits as these force new JPEG previews to be sent from Lightroom desktop, but would not force new Smart Previews (unless the develop edits are modifying the original file making us think the Smart Preview is out of date) to be sent.
    Guido
My images are full-resolution ~22mp Canon 5D Mark III RAW files so they're fairly large. Even if I only make one basic change such as exposure changes, I saw the issue. By "save to the original file" I'm assuming metadata changes such as timestamps, otherwise edits to the images aren't actually written to the original file. I'm only doing develop module edits so I shouldn't be touching the original file at all at this point in my workflow.
I think it makes sense now that you mention that new JPEG previews need to be generated and sent to the cloud due to updated develop edits. My concern is that this seems to be done in real-time as opposed to how Lightroom Desktop works (which is to render a new Standard Preview or 1:1 Preview on demand, which means only one is being rendered at any given time while viewing it in Loupe View or possibly 2 in Compare View). If I edit, for example, 10 images quickly in a row, once the sync kicks in a few seconds later, editing the 11th image is severely hindered due to the previous 10 images' JPEG previews being rendered and sync'd to the cloud (I'm assuming the upload portion doesn't take much CPU, but the JPEG render will utilize CPU resources to the fullest if it can). Rendering Standard/1:1 Previews locally and being able to walk away while the process finishes works because it is at the start of my workflow, but having to deal with on-the-fly preview rendering while I'm editing greatly impacts my ability to edit. Perhaps there can be a way to limit max CPU utilization for background sync tasks?
It may help to know that I'm running a dual-monitor setup, with Lightroom on a 27" 2560x1440 display maximized to fit the display (2nd display not running LR's 2nd monitor). Since I'm using a retina iPad, the optimal Standard Previews resolution should be the same at 2880 pixels.
    Thanks again for the help!

  • Lightroomm 5,lightroom mobile, sync

    Hi.
I have lightroom 5 which was installed from disc and i have since purchased adobe cc. i also installed the trial of lightroom mobile when it was first released. Now my i am trying to sync lightroom mobile but it is telling me that my trial has expired, am i correct in saying that lightroom mobile is included in cc package, would it make any difference that lightroom 5 was installed by disc or should i reinstall from adobe cc.
    many thanks

    Greule,
When the sync was interrupted on the iPhone the application suddenly crashed.  I attempted to re-open and was presented with a crash report pop up window that asked me to send a report or not send.  Unfortunately, that pop-up forced the app to shut down.  I then tried a manual force close of the iPhone app, (double click the home button and swipe the app away from memory) and while the app appeared to re-launch itself from scratch, it ended up at that report send pop up and shut down.  In the end, I was forced to go to the data management settings in the iPhone and attempted to delete the data and in the end, I deleted the app and re-downloaded from the app store to fix.
I did just do the "Delete all Data" from the Desktop preferences and it seems it cleared out the collection that was online.  I tried to setup a new collection with the same name, but it appears that the Lightroom online library is preventing name duplication even when another catalog with the same name no longer exists in the account and ended up with an incremental number increase on the collection name.  Now that the collection is gone, if I try to re-sync with my Photo Library from my iPhone will it act as a traditional Lightroom import where duplicate files are scanned for before import?  Or do I have to manage that?
To be honest, I was hoping for this to be an advanced replacement of the Photo Stream feature from Apple, but is that what this is supposed to be?

  • Lightroom Mobile - sync 2 computers?

    Hi there,
I have 2 computers - 1) iMac, which is my main computer, and 2) MacBook Pro which I drag around with me everywhere. I'd welcome the opportunity to sync the catalog on my iMac with my MacBook Pro, so that I can edit & retouch images while on the road. Can this be done using Lightroom Mobile? If so, how? When I try to sync a catalog on my MacBook Pro I'm greeted with the included image:
What exactly does this mean? To me, it appears that what's currently being synced to LR Mobile will be replaced/overwritten by the catalog on my MacBook Pro. I don't want this. I'd like them to be in sync. I don't need the entire catalog to be synced, just the collection that I'm currently working on. Help?
    Thanks,
    JeffSP

With the current Lightroom Mobile version you can only have one catalog connected with your Adobe id. When you decide to switch catalogs, Lr desktop will come up with the "Change sync catalog"- message. When you confirm to sync the new current catalog your previous catalog data will be replaced with new one.
    Hope that answers your question.

  • Lightroom Mobile sync fail

Well, it sounded good, so I tried it, on just 6 images, those worked, so then I set a larger number, yes, a massive 26 images, yes, that is 26, not 26,000.
It just sits there, and the six images that were visible on iOS are now gone, (I did move them to the new 26 photo collection, so that could be why)
In iOS the new "Collection" name shows up  along with the number of photos that should be in it, but there are none after 12 hours. I've tried uninstalling and reinstall of LR mobile, no difference.
On LR desktop the collection has has 26 photos in it, syncing is on, the almost invisible sync tag is showing alongside the collection.   The only thing it has managed to do is remove the previous testt folder, so I am now down to 0 photos on Lightroom mobile. Not impressive.
    So, questions:
    1. Is it possible to tell from Lightroom (desktop) the status of a sync. i.e have they uploaded and the problem is in the iOS version, or not even uploaded.
    2. Is it possible to use a web browser to see what has uploaded - i.e. check that the images are in the Adobe "cloud"
    3. how long should it take to sync 24 off 5184x3456 pixel jpegs?  (I have both my laptop and phone liked to a 60MB/s fibre broadband connection - being Virgin Media the upload is a bit pitiful at only 2MB/s - but still, surely it shouldn't take days? - the exact same images uploaded to Alamy in about 15 mins)
    4. within the setting fly-out on the LHS on LR Mobile. there are sliders for "Sync only over WiFi", Show touches" & "collect usage data". The first two are set to off, the last one to send data to Adobe is on. None of them can be changed. Same on iPad and iPhone.  Presumably they should be selectable or there wouldn't be an option - can anyone tell me how to enable this?
P.S. I just found a sort of solution to Q.4., when re-installing you get to select those options, not phrased consistently with the options screen, but that seems to do it, but a bit mad you have to delete all your photos and data in order to change a setting, there must be another way.  There is a Setting within the iOS Settings, Lightroom, "Use Mobile Data" which you can slide to "off" position, but it makes seemingly no difference to the setting shown in Lightroom itself, which stays showing it will sync - are these supposed to be linked / synced or not?
My iOS device (iPhone + iPad) see the new "Collection" name, but have no photos in then
Perhaps LR mobile is all a bit embryonic and I should wit for it to mature a bit, but I thought just syncing a few images wouldn't be too challenging
    Thanks for any help.
    Stephen

    Thank you Guido,
It seems all I needed to do was wait, and then wait a bit more, and then wait a little longer.  It took about 14 hours to sync the 26 images - no progress bar air any clue on what progress there was, it just went from zero when I looked after about 13 hours to all 26 images after 15 hours.
So not exactly a reliable tool currently if you need to rely on the transfer.  the same images are in my dropbox account, i did a test duplicating them, and they took about 6 minutes to sync between iPad and mac on the same network - i.e. uploading to DropBox 'cloud' then downloading the iPad.
As I said before, seems a little embryonic perhaps, I think I will probably use it as a 'slide viewer' until the sync becomes a little quicker.
Thanks for your message, and thankfully didn't need the diagnostics this time.

  • Saving Lightroom Mobile synced photos to existing library system?

This should be really straightforward but I can't figure it out.
When I import photos from my DSLR, Lightroom saves them into a library structure (Pictures > 2104 > 08 > 07). This works for me, as it keeps everything together in the one place, easy to navigate and back up. Is there a way I can automatically save photos synced from Lightroom Mobile into the same library structure as my DSLR photos? At the moment it seems to keep the photos inside a Lightroom data file (Pictures > Lightroom > Mobile Downloads.lrdata).
    Any suggestions?

    Automatically? No.

  • Lightroom mobile sync

I just downloaded the trial version of lightroom and lightroom mobile app, and I am unable to sync.  Is the sync feature only allowed IF you pay the subscription?  Does not list anywhere that trial versions do not sync.  Please help!?

Did I get it right, that sync is not working for you when you enable the little checkbox beside the collection folder (see my screenshot).
If so what kind of status is LrD giving to you?

  • Lightroom mobile sync issues

lightroom mobile says I gave one collection with 442 photos, however it shows one collection with 0 photos.. Help!

    Hi,
it can take a while before they are all visible, is it still a 0?
Just to know if I interpret it correctly - you have one collection that you added 442 photos to - but the lightroom mobile app only shows 0 as the count of the images?

  • Lightroom mobile sync "hangs" - I am trying to sync several small LR collections from my desktop computer.  The first collection syncs, and then Lightroom syncing seems to hang.  It shows "Syncing 150 photos" in top left, but never progresses even after c

I am using Lightroom 5.5 on OS X.  I have created several small collections with about 180 images and I am trying to sync them via Lightroom mobile for later iPad access.  The first collection syncs properly, and then Lightroom syncing seems to hang.  The label in the upper right shows "Syncing 150 photos" but does not count down.  Opening and closing LR does not restart the process.

    PROBLEM STILL EXISTS...
I spoke to soon!  I tried adding a couple of more collections to sync.  Lightroom shows "Syncing 814" photos on upper left, but never apparently syncs any.  If I exit Lightroom it notifies me there are 814 images to sync.  When I reopen it seems to pick up and stall where it left off.  These new collections are not posting - this is the same problem as before.
I am pretty sure there is a serious bug in Lightroom here.  I encourage support to contact me.

  • Lightroom Mobile sync problem

I too am having trouble with Lightroom Mobile after a few problem-free months.  I'm running LR 5.6 on Windows, plenty of memory, etc.
I have marked collections on my desktop app for sync and I am signed in/sync on. but no sync.  There are no files in the cloud and no sync activity showing on the desktop program.
I've tried signing out and in, creating new collections, deleting all data through Edit/Preferences, deleted and reloaded the IPad App.  Can't think of anything else.
    Has anyone any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Can Lightroom Mobile sync over Apple's iCloud ?

If I have Lightroom and Lightroom Mobile, can I sync my photos over Apple's iCloud or must I subscribe to Adobe's Creative Cloud?

Thanks. It does sound complicated. So, for now, I am using Lightroom desktop on the trial basis. I am wondering whether it will be a good program for me to purchase if I only have Photoshop Elements and not the full Photoshop. My Photoshop is too old for upgrade pricing and I can't afford full price. I can't decide on whether the Adobe cloud is a worthwhile investment since it has a perpetual subscription fee and I am not a professional or business user.
This may be off topic, but do you have any recommendations for a personal user?  I will be editing travel and family photos, including grandchildren pics. I am also cleaning and restoring 50 years worth of old photos taken with slides and snapshots. My sharing will be limited to family members and I will not be doing a complex web site or any professional jobs or portfolios. I would like to have have a simple editor I could use on trips with my iPad, making small adjustments before sharing them with other family members. Once home, I could send them to my Mac via Airdrop, Photo Stream or DropBox or plug in the iPad and copy them that way if necessary.
Am I wrong in thinking Adobe makes an iPad version of Elements for around $10? Though I remember someone mentioning it, I can't seem to find it on the App Store. I downloaded Revel, but that seems to be another sharing service.

  • Lightroom Mobile Sync starts over after Yosemite upgrade

My Mac spent weeks uploading 100,000 photos to Lightroom Mobile.  Now, after upgrade to Yosemite, it suddenly shows "Syncing 100,000 photos" in status.  Why does it think it needs to re-upload?  Would it happen on every OS X upgrade?  This is a very serious regress...
UPDATE: Actually it's going through them very quickly, seems to be some checksum comparison rather than full reupload.  Already at 66K.  Still wonder why OS upgrade triggered it.
    A+

Could it be that you  made metadata changes or  a 'Save Metadata to file' on all images, that would trigger such an update.
An update to Lr itself is very likely to cause a resync of metadata as we often add metadata fields to sync. So if you did that, you'll see it go to 100000 in your case and then quickly drop down.
