Lion Pages

I have a problem with Pages in OS Lion: documents reopen every time I restart the application, and are impossible to close. The windows are also extremely buggy, sometimes impossible to edit. They cannot be closed and they cannot be worked on. Often the program freezes (does not respond) if I try to close a window. I have correctly deinstalled and reinstalled the application; the same thing happens when I open it after reinstalling. Basically, Pages has become inoperative and I can't figure out how to fix the problem.

You need to install it from an iWork 09 DVD; places such as Amazon and eBay may sell these. If you previously got a compatible iWork version from the Mac App Store and can't download it now, go to the Mac App Store homepage, click on Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and see what they say.

  • Problem Mountain lion, Pages PDF and Quartz filters

    Hello,
With some PDF file created with Pages (iWork 4.2) in Moutain Lion, Quartz Filter don't work.
    Example :
    - Create a new doc with template "Personnal News" ("Nouvelles Personnelles in french) in "Newsletter"
    - Print dialog, "PDF" button "Open PDF with Preview"
    - In Preview, export in PDF with filter "Gray Tone"
--> Problem : The PDF created is not in "Gray tone" but in color
--> Same problems with others Quartz Filter, they do anything
    - With template "School" ("Lycée" in French) --> Final PDF is a mix of color and gray tone !
    - With template "Extrems Sports" (Sports Extremes in french) --> No problem, quartz filters works
If i create the PDF with page export and use "Preview" (or Color Sync utility"), Do a PDF export with  a Quartz filters.
    --> same problem
No problem with same manipulations before Mountain Lion (in Lion, ...). I think it's a Moutain Lion bug but it's very strange!
    Has anyone noted this bug?
Is anyone know a solution to this pb?
    Thanks
    Note :
    - I have the problem with a simple update of Lion in Moutain Lion and after a clean install of Moutain Lion.
    - I have a boot disk with 10.5 Leopard and if i open the pdf file with Preview, the PDF file exported with quartz filter is ok.

I think it's a Moutain Lion bug, i hope it will be fixed in the next update of Moutain Lion...
But, i have found a workaround for this issue.
With a PDF file with this problem :
    - Open the PDF with "Preview"
    - Print, button "PDF", "Save to PostScript Format"
    - Open the PS file with "Preview" --> Conversion to format PDF
    - Save the PDF file
    - Reopen this PDF file with Preview
--> Export can be do with Quartz filter (sometime with filter "Gray Tone", Preview crach, but with filter "Reduce File size", no problem
--> If a use "PDF Clerk Pro" to export this PDF with quartz filter, all filters work.

  • Installed Mountain Lion--Pages won't launch

I get an error message that says Pages failed to launch because of DIVX Decoder.component  (library/quicktime/divxdecoder.component) Pages was working fine before installing Mountain Lion.
This is on my 2009 Mac mini. I just bought a new Macbook Pro that came with Mountain Lion, and Pages works fine on that, even though the divx decoder.component was copied from the Mac mini during an 18-hour Migration Assistant file transfer marathon.
I haven't got a clue on how to fix this.
Help. I've got a 52,000 word manuscript in Pages on the Mac mini.

Thanks Peggy, your suggestions worked. I used Disk Utility to repair permissions; but the repairs were to printer and frameworks items, not QuickTime Divx decoder.component. So I don't know if the permissions repairs did anything to resolve the problem.
I also removed the DivX decoder and encoders and relaunched. I suspect this was the fix.
Thanks so much for helping me with this odd problem--and for responding so quickly. Much appreciated!!

  • Safari Lion pages don't complete loading.

I have multiple Macs home and office.  Under Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with Safari 5.1, never a problem on any of them.
As a test for usability of Lion, I updated one system to Lion, 10.7, and Safari 5.1 that was part of that.  Now Safari on that system is very tempermental.  I can go to the exact same page from the exact same link and all the Snow Leopard systems get there just fine.  The Lion system has abotu a 10% (or less) of completely loading the page.  Most of the time it gets stuck with an almost blank screen and the spinning colored beachball.  Meanwhile, the Snow Leopard Safari gets it all loaded just fine.
Most of the pages I have tested it on are news sites, being taken directly to the news article from an email alert for instance.
On those pages where Lion Safari gets stuck, it NEVER resolves or completes the page - and never times out.  Clicking the stop loading spot tells me the page is not responding and I can cancel the window or I can tell it to reload the page (which carries the caution that it will also then attempt to reload all pages that are on tabs.  And, even pressing the cancel, all the other tabs go blank and have to be reloaded anyway.
AND - even coming here I can't get into even the basic support main page due to the same thing here on Apple's own site.
Interestingly, I have not had a problem with any other Lion issue that many others have reported.  This seems to be the only negative thing I have had happen.

I'm noticing the same problem with Safari 5.1 on Lion on a 2010 Mac Pro version 4,1 with 8 core, boot drive is SSD.
Basically when restarting Safari often it will take a long time for the first page to open or require "reload" after the page not responding dialog box.  But once it starts working then if I quit Safari immediately then restart again then problem doesn't show up unless Safari hasn't been run for a while.
It happens even if attached internal and external HD are already spun up.
Tried priviliage repair and delete cache database...etc as some have suggested. Doesn't seem to make a difference.  The restore windows when quittig option in General control panel has been disabled but that doesn't solve the problem either. Very annoying.
With the exception of this startup issue, Safari 5.1 is much faster and responsive than last version.

  • In Lion Pages templates isn't working like it did in Snow Leopard

I used to make a template, name it and each time I opened a new template page and saved it, it saved a new document and left the template alone. That isn't happening anymore. It's creating one template after another. What is going on.

You may want to post this in the Pages discussion here.

  • HT5361 I have Snow Leopard on my late model IMac. I downloaded Mountail Lion and paid for it from the Mac Store. It will not install. It takes me through several pages and then button to install is greyed out. A message that this disc is used for Time Mac

I have a late mode IMac 27" running Snow Leopard. I downloaded Mountain Lion from the Apple Store and paid for it. When I trie to install it took me through the first few pages of installation such as agrreeing to terms and the Lion Page showed up asking where I wanted to intall Mountain Lion. The install button was greyed out. I also had a message this disc is used for Time Machine. I had no other disc to choose from. Time Mahine was in the OFF position. I tried hooking up an external drive and tried using it as th Time Machine Backup. That did not work and it also said this disc is used by Time Machine. I have read of several other cases like this but have found no solution other than doinh a complee wipe of the hard drive and doing a reinstall which I really want to avoid if I can.

Look at the root of your hard drive for a folder called Backups.backupdb.
Or, a sparse bundle disk image for one of mobile computers that might have tried to back up to your Mac.
If you have those, remove them and try again.

  • How do I save as Word, using Pages '09, Lion

The "help" section says: go to Save, or Save as, but there is no Save or Save As under File, in Lion, Pages '09.

    Richard,
For future reference, since Fruhulda's response solved your problem, you should mark her post as the one that was the solution, not your own post. At least give her a "helpful".

  • Pages practically unusable after Lion Update

After installing Lion Pages is practically unusable as most documents can only be edited frequently - regardless if new ones or old ones. Pages constantly looses the abilty to type and only if you shift focus to another application like Safari and than back you can type for some minutes (but not long). I installed the Lionfix for iWork and nothing changed. I even deinstalled Pages and redownloaded it via App Store and still no change.

SAME problem here, spent 2X time to finish a stupid document for my boss...it drives me crazy!
But my case is even worse beucase I lost my Right Shift key after installing lion. It worked perfectly when I was staying in Snow Leopard, or when I switch to Win7.

  • How do I install lion on a macbook pro that has a MBR instead of GUID.

Not sure how that happened. Maybe when I installed parallels and Windows XP, but Lion apparently requires a GUID partition. I've backed up and copied all important files to an external drive. If I reformat the drive for GUID how do I restore Leopard so I can then upgrade to Lion. I lost me original disks. Can I make a boot disk from the current OS?

As you know you must install OS X on a GUID partitioned, Mac OS Extended, Journaled drive. You do not need to reinstall Snow Leopard in order to install Lion if you have a copy of the Lion installer. If you don't have a copy of the installer then I suggest you re-download Lion but save the installer on your external drive. Here's how you do that:
Download Lion Again Without Installing Snow Leopard First
There's an easy method to force a download within the Mac App Store without any tinkering. It seems to be the official method, although I found no description of this in any of Apple's documentation.
So here's how to do it:
    Open the Mac App Store.
    Navigate to your Purchased page.
Hold down the Option key on your keyboard and click on your 'OS X Lion' purchase link (not on the 'installed' button).
You see the Lion product page. It should say 'Installed,' but that button is clickable. Hold down the Option key again and click on 'Installed.' If you don't hold the option key it will tell you there's already a newer version installed.
    Enter your login credentials.
    Download.
It's important to hold down the Option key twice. Once on the Purchased page, once on the Lion page. You also can't navigate to Lion directly, you need to open it from the purchases page. But if you follow this procedure you should find the Lion Installer within your Applications folder.
Now, make yourself a bootable DVD or USB flash drive for installing Lion:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.

  • Recover a delete file on PAGES

    I, can anyone help me?
Infortunly i erase a file in of pages in my cloud of oages. Can i restore thath file again. Harh shoul i do to recover it.
    Thank´s
    Pedro

Since you're using Lion & Pages 4.2 autosave will have saved the files if you have saved them at least once. There is a folder of "unsaved documents" in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences but I have no idea how it works. The one time I tried opening one of the files I got an error, but you might have a different result. In Lion you need to go to Finder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu & your users Library will appear about halfway down the list.

  • How Would you Know if Mountain Lion is Downloading?

Hi. App Store had me update the info in the billing section which I did. When I updated it and click done it came back to the Mountain Lion page still with the icon Buy App. I clicked that for a second time but it said (something like) that I I've already purchased it. I noticed there's the Mountain Lion logo on the Launchpad and it seems to be downloading but there seems to be no progress bar. It seems like it's not moving although we're only subscribed to about 1Mbps with our landline based broadband.
Is it downloading and have I purchased it properly? I've forgotten what the icon display once you buy something because I don't purchase that often (the last was Lion from last year). I know once it's installed, the icon says installed but when you're downloading it should the app say "downloading" instead of going back to "Buy App"?.
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

    Hello:
If you want to check the progress, go to the app store>purchases.  If something is downloading, the progress bar will be there.
