List of file systems supported by OS X
Where can I find all file systems supported by OS X?
So far I know about write/read HFS, HFS+, FAT, FAT32 and read only NTFS.
But how about for example ext3/ext4?

Lucreate - Cannot make file systems for boot environment
Hello!
I'm trying to use LiveUpgrade to upgrade one "my" Sparc servers from Solaris 10 U5 to Solaris 10 U6. To do that, I first installed the patches listed on [Infodoc 72099|http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-9-72099-1] and then installed SUNWlucfg, SUNWlur and SUNWluufrom the S10U6 sparc DVD iso. I then did:
--($ ~)-- time sudo env LC_ALL=C LANG=C PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:$PATH lucreate -n S10U6_20081207 -m /:/dev/md/dsk/d200:ufs

Well - why's that?
I can do a "newfs /dev/md/dsk/d200" just fine.
When I try to remove the incomplete S10U6_20081207 BE, I get yet another error :(

Boot environment <S10U6_20081207> deleted.I get this error consistently (I ran the lucreate many times now).
lucreate used to work fine, "once upon a time", when I brought the system from S10U4 to S10U5.
Would anyone maybe have an idea about what's broken there?

Windows 8.1 File System Performance Down Compared to Windows 7
I have a good workstation and a fast SSD array as my boot volume.
Ever since installing Windows 8.1 I have found the file system performance to be somewhat slower than that of Windows 7.
There's nothing wrong with my setup - in fact it runs as stably as it did under Windows 7 on the same hardware with a similar configuration.
The NTFS file system simply isn't quite as responsive on Windows 8.1.
For example, under Windows 7 I could open Windows Explorer, navigate to the root folder of C:, select all the files and folders, then choose
Properties. The system would count up all the files in all the folders at a rate of about
30,000 files per second
the first time, then about 50,000 files per second the next time, when all the file system data was already cached in RAM.
Windows 8.1 will enumerate roughly
10,000 files per second the first time, and around
18,000 files per second the second time -
a roughly 1 to 3 slowdown. The reduced speed once the data is cached in RAM implies that something in the operating system is the bottleneck.
Not every operation is slower. I've benchmarked raw disk I/O, and Windows 8.1 can sustain almost the same data rate, though the top speed is a little lower. For example, Windows 7 vs. 8 comparisons using the ATTO speed benchmark:

Configure The Windows 8 "To Work" OptionsNo worries, and thanks for your response.
The problem can be characterized most quickly by the slowdown in enumerating files in folders. Unfortunately, besides some benchmarks that show only an incremental degradation in file read/write performance, I don't have any good before/after
measurements of other actual file operations.
Since posting the above I have verified:
My system has 8dot3 support disbled (same as my Windows 7 setup did).
Core Parking is disabled; CPU benchmarks are roughly equivalent to what they were.
File system caching is configured the same.

SUN VM Shared File Systems make Errors with lucreate
Hi,
I have a problem with an attached A5200 with mirrored disks (Solaris 9, Volume Manager). Whereas the "critical" partitions should be copied to a second system disk, the mirrored partitions should be shared.
Here is a script with lucreate.
/usr/sbin/lucreate \

CLFS (Common Log File System)
Hi,
I am using windows CLFS, but I think I may have some bugs in its usage. I want to see if multiplexed logs have any benefit over dedicated logs when after each record write, the record is flushed into the disk. When I create multiplexed log files, the time
it takes to complete a flushed append, is below one mili second, which does not make sense. When creating a dedicated log file however, the write takes about 3 mili seconds. I wonder if this makes sense or if not what maybe the write way of forcing flushes.
Thanks.Hi Paris84,
Common Log File System supports dedicated logs and multiplexed logs. A dedicated log has a single stream of log records that is used by all of the log's clients. A multiplexed log (also called a common log) has several streams.
Here are the links for reference:
Dedicated CLFS Logs

Multiplexed CLFS Logs
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff556410(v=vs.85).aspx
To force the flush, there are two functions in the Common Log File System. They are FlushLogBuffers function and FlushLogToLsn function.
Here are the links for reference:
FlushLogBuffers function

MS Word not listed in Acrobat 9 supported file type (Windows 7 64 + Office 2007)
Installation details:
Windows 7 64bit O/S
MS Office 2007
Acrobat 9 Professional
When attempting to create a PDF from multiple files or combine multiple files into one PDF (single or package/portfollio) Microsoft Word is not listed in the supported file type drop down menu. This means when I navigate to a folder containing *.doc files I cannot see them. I tried adding *.doc files via drag and drop but Acrobat listed red exclamation marks stating it could not convert that file type. MS Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher appear in the supported file type list.
I believe this may be a Windows 7 compatibility issue as the same problem occured when using Acrobat 8 Standard prior to installing Acrobat 9 Professional. MS Word files are supported when both Acrobat 8 & 9 are installed on a Windows XP system.
I can create a PDF of individual MS Word documents using the acrobat tab inside MS Word itself.
I have thousands of Word files I need to combine into PDF portfollios (packages in Acrobat 8 I believe).
My great appreciation if you can provide any help.

Well, thumbnails in Explorer don't work either, but we're not concerned about it. The preview pane is what we're worried about. There is a button in the top-right that turns the pane on. Previewing in Outlook does not work either.

how do you repair the EFI systems partitions when you mac tells you that the live file system is not supported?
I don't have good news. You will need to repartition and reformat the hard drive in order to determine if the drive is still OK or if it needs to be replaced. If your computer is a 2011 model or later do the following:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
If your computer is pre-2011 model, then locate the original installer discs that came with the computer. Then do this:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. You can now download a version of OS X from which to upgrade from your Purchases page in the App Store. -

JohnI recently ran into a similar issue with my Time Machine backup disk. After about 6 days of no backups - I had swapped the disk for my photo library for a media project; I reattached the Time Machine disk and attempted a backup.
Time Machine could not backup to the disk. Running Disk Utility and attempting to Repair the disk ended up returning the "Live file system repair is not supported" message.
After much experimentaion with disk analysis softwares, I came to the realization that the issue might be that the USB disk dock wasn't connected directly to the MacBook Pro - it was daisy-chained through a USB Hub.
Connecting the USB disk dock directly to the MBP and running Disk Utility appears to have resolved the issue. DU ran for about 6 hours and succesfully repaired the disk. Consequently, I have been able to use that Time Machine disk for subsequent backups. -
I have been trying to increase my disk space for windows xp on my Imac and I am running parallels 6. before opening windows I go into configure in parallels and open the hard drive and try to move the allotted disk space from 32 gig to 64 or any other increased gig and then apply and I get the error message: resizing failed unable to resize last volume. The file system of this volume might be damaged or not supported. How do I increase the size?? I just also did a disk repair utility with Apple on the Apple side of my IMAC. Please Help!! I had uninstalled SQL server on the windows side and needed to uncompress files to install this and then I ran short on disk space.
This sounds to me that your Parallels XP file system is corrupted and not the OSX file system.
Have you checked the XP file system while running the Parallels XP yet ?
However, it would be better to ask such question in the Parallels Forum http://forum.parallels.com/

Mavericks Server; smbd: File system does not support 0x0, time/size attrs
So I recently installed a Mac Mini with Mavericks and Server 3.2.2 in the main office of my company and everything has been going well, minus a few expected bugs, until recently. Starting last week we've been experiencing random intervals where File Sharing stopped working altogether, and I'd been able to reboot and get it running again. Unfortunately, as I'm the Systems and Server Admin, I've been too busy to look at the logs until now (following the degradation of one of the drives in our DAT-Optic RAID system, I figured it was time to make it a priority), and I'm seeing dozens of entries in the system logs regarding the process smbd with file system does not support errors.
Here's an example.

As far as I can tell, nothing else has changed in our system except for the fact that one of the drives died and was rebuilt as of yesterday (these smbd problems extend to last week shortly after I updated to 3.2.2 I believe). Any help would be much appreciated. I would normally first attempt a repair permissions to see if the issue is related to a bad plist somewhere but the last time we did that, our ACLs were duplicated across our file share and often incorrectly. I'm not sure if it's just me but the last Mac Server software I used was Snow Leopard Server (when it was still a full OS version) and it was infinitely more stable than what I've experienced thus far with Server 3. Anyway, I appreciate any help/advice that can be given and I apologize for the rant.Been getting the same errors for a while.

Believe they are related to random disconnects from the file server (10.9.5). -
What Raw camera files are supported by Aperture Ver 3.6. I have tried to file a list of compatible camera models, but as yet can't find one. My OS is OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. I have recently bought a Canon 7D MkII and have found Adobe Lightroom does not as yet support the 7D MkII. So I though Aperture may support the 7D MkII because Yosemite 10.10.1 now does.
Hi Folk,
I just found the answer to my question. Yes it is supported with OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. See the link below and the ***** Note at the bottom of the list.
