List of songs to make playlist?

So I do a search for a song.  iTunes produces a list of all versions I have.
But iTunes will not let me select the entire list to make a new playlist.
The LIST is deleted as soon as I select One track.
How to make a playlist from the search results for a single song? other than having to do search repeatedly and adding  each single to the new playlist?  Laborious!

Ah. got it ... Search in iTunes 12 has two very different modes - the dropdown list of matching songs appears when you have the Search Entire Library option (in the dropdown when you click on the "magnifying glass" icon on the left hand side of the search control) enabled.  If you unselect that, and then search against your complete library, you'll get a filtered listing of matching songs in the main iTunes window - from which the Select All and New Playlist from Selection functions will work as described.
Alternatively, if you leave the Search Entire Library option enabled, the first entry in the resulting dropdown will be "Show <search string> in Music" - clicking that will give the same filtered list in the main window as above.

I just upgraded to iTunes 11, and now I can't printout the song listings on my playlists.  It was easy for me on the earlier version of iTunes.  I am a 73 year old novice and need help.  A step by step explanatuion would really help.  Bless whoever can help me.

Select all the songs in the playlist concerned. Ctrl + A is the normal shortcut.
Select File > Print from the top menu
Select the option of Song List in the dialog box
    Click Print

  • Add the "play next" feature. (Adding chosen lists of songs to any playlist already playing)

Hello, I'm new to spotify and didn't find any duplicates for this idea. Sorry if I'm wrong. Even though I'm new to Spotify, I've used several streaming services already (grooveshark, google play, winamp, etc.) And they all shared a very dear feature to me which I'll call "Play Next" in lack of a better name. The feature is pretty basic and useful: Choosing the song which will play next, before whichever song that was meant to play. There you are, listening to your randomized playlist and you just want to hear a song, or a few songs (either from the playlist itself or not), but you don't necessarily want to stop your playlist from playing. Being new to spotify, I don't know what to do in this situation, I have to click the song and then re-randomize the songs again? Anyhow, I believe it would be a nice addition to the service if you could manipulate the list's order while playing. Then we would be able to listen to any songs we like whenever we like and keep listening to the random songs afterwards. Sorry for any bad english.

Hey there and welcome to the community!
Have you tried to 'Queue' a song? On desktop just right-click a song you want to listen to and choose 'Queue'. Then it will play after the current song. Once that song has been played, your playlist will continue normally. You can access the Play Queue when clicking on the bottom right 3 vertical lines icon.
Was that what you're looking for? ;)

  • How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? They are there but the individual song titles aren't listed. They are only listed by album. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also, when I click on music, it will not list options.

My itunes account is messed up. How can I restore my playlist folders in itunes? The list's are there but the individual song titles aren't. They are only listed by album. I can only see the song titles as they are played at the top of my itunes. This makes it very difficult to find songs in my playlist.  Also when in the itunes store, I am not able to see music genre choices, or search for a song or group.
    Thank you

    Hi dones49,
It sounds like your issue here is that iTunes can not find the files for some of the songs you have brought into it. This happens occasionally even if the songs have not been moved from the location that iTunes places them on import or purchase. When you try to use the song, iTunes prompts you to find the file, as you have seen.
To find the file, use the information in this article to navigate through the iTunes media folders -
Locate and organize your iTunes files
If you are still unable to locate the files, you may need to download them from the iTunes store again, or rip them from your CDs. See this article for assistance with downloading your past purchases -

  • HT1923 I have just updated itunes and now I can't print the playlist when I burn a list to cd. How do  make a cd case cover or list of songs?

I just recently updated itunes and now I can't print the playlist or print a cd case cover. I want to at least print a list of songs to go in the cd case. How do I do that?

beggsc54,  There were some printing bugs in iTunes 11.0 which reportedly have been fixed in 11.0.1.  If you haven't upgraded yet, install the latest iTunes and try again.

  • Please: Make search feature to pinpoint songs in multiple playlists

There is no way to locate certain songs in multiple playlists, only searching songs in individual playlists or searching in the whole "Music" list.
Is there any update that iTunes can create so I when I search for a song it can also *highlight whether that song is located in certain playlists (not just a huge music folder)*
I have thousands and thousands of songs and I need to be able to locate them within different compartmentalized playlists (not just widely on the Music broadlist)
Please take this suggest when making the newest update for iTunes 10+
Any people who feel the same, please reply

H d (and others looking to figure out which playlists a song may be part of),
    I hope tt2 won't mind me clarifying his/her advice:
    The following does not work:
Option-click on any song and look at Show in playlist to reveal which playlists that song is in.
    It should read Control-click.
I was just doing a search to find out how to do what you're asking about. As you've probably discovered, option-click doesn't do anything. Hold down the control key and click on a song, then in the window that opens, go down to Show in Playlist and it will show you which playlists that song is in. If you then click on the song, it will bring you to the playlist that song is in.
I agree with you that it would be nice to have this feature clearly labeled, and make it easier to use. Like you, I have thousands of songs, dozens of playlists for different purposes. I just wanted to make sure a number of songs were distributed across a number of different playlists, and couldn't believe I'd have to manually search through all my folders and playlists. Glad I found this to at least get me on the right track so I could figure out how to do it. Still wish it was easier (even a keyboard command), but it's certainly better than nothing.

If you go to the Now Playing screen, the Repeat control is the the arrowed racetrack icon on the left side right below the scrubber bar. Tap the icon to change. It is white when Repeat is off.

There are about 8 songs on a playlist that are listed in the playlist library but when I try to transfer them to the playlist, it states that they can't be transferred because the original file could not be found. Then it asks, do you want to locate the file but when I try that I get a few libraries but am not sure how to locate the particular songs. Some of the songs were purchased and some were transferred from a CD. I have seen the same question asked on the help page but haven't found an answer.

  • After upgrading to 5.01, songs in my playlist no longer are in the same order as on itunes.  I want to at least list them by the most played first not some random Apple order.

After upgrading to 5.01, songs in my playlist is no longer are in the same order as on itunes.  I want to at least list them by the most played first not some random Apple order.

Not sure why this is happening and it is a pain. Once the Purchased list sorted by 'date added' go to the left most column and select the top - in my Purchased list the new items go to the bottom and I drag them back up to the top position.

  • How do I make changes on a song in my playlist that won't make that change to the song on my other playlists

I have multiple playlists and want to take a song and make it different lengths in playtime, but I don't want it to change in every playlist and sometimes I want to use a different part of the song on the same playlist. for example the song is 4:12, I want it to play from the beginning until say 4:00, but also would duplicate the song on the same playlist and use form 3:10 to 4:10. I can get it do do one of these but not both - any suggestions?

You need to locate the original file in Windows Explorer, press CTRL C, then go <Media Folder>\Automatically Add to iTunes and press CTRL+V as many times as you need to create enough different copies for your task. Back in the Songs view in iTunes select each copy in turn and give it different start and end times. Finally place the correct version at the right place within each playlist.

  • How do you make list of songs to buy in iTunes using AppleScript?

I'm trying to write an AppleScript program to create a list of songs that the user doesn't currently own. The idea is that my script would load a playlist from somewhere, then let the user listen to samples and buy some or all of the songs.
This would be similar to either:
    - dragging songs from the iTunes store to a new playist
    or
    - publishing an iMix
but would be done from the script instead of the UI.
I have not been able to write a script that adds tracks to a playlist that aren't in the song library.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Same way you did with the previous versions of iTunes.
To view the iPod in iTunes, Ctrl S to show the sidebar.
Create a playlist, add songs and sync that playlist.
Or drag songs to the iPod in iTunes.

  • Getting list of songs on iPod into a playlist on computer

Between my wife and I we have a few iPods and I'm having some troubles getting the list of songs from our iPods into playlists in iTunes because we originally didn't transfer them the right way.
We realize now that we should have created a playlist first within iTunes and then transferred the playlist onto the iPod if we wanted to keep record of which songs we selected.
ALL THE SONGS ARE ALREADY BOTH IN iTUNES AND ON THE iPOD, now we just want to put them into a playlist within iTunes so we can swap out the music with different playlist and still have the option to reload the music that is currently on the iPod on a later date. It took many hours to select the subset of music that is currently on the iPod, so we'd rather not have to start over.
This is a summary of what we'd like to do:
    1. General folder on iPod --> playlist in iTunes
    2. Erase all music from iPod
    3. Different playlist in iTunes ---> iPod.
Nano, Video, and old 10GB   Windows XP Pro

I'd like to know that same exact thing. I recently erased my entire system drive and am now re-installing software and updates. I have re-installed iTunes, updated it and copied all my iTines music and folders into it. Trouble is, the laylists didn't come over with it. I've read that two files are necessary for a successfull transfer and re-install of all iTunes stuff from a backup.
    1. iTunes Music Library.itl
    2. iTunes Library.xml
I have the .xml file but the .itl file didn't transfer over. In fact it didn't backup prior to my erasing my drive. Is the .itl file the file required to put all playlists and songs (arranged in my customized order) back onto iTunes?

  • How can I get the songs in my playlists to play in the order listed?

I have an iPod touch gen. 4 that I got two months ago. According to iTunes, the firmware is up to date. I have created many playlists, and I always start playing songs at the top of the list. However, the next song it plays (after the first one) is never the second song in the list. I created my playlists using iTunes.

    Thanks!
At first I didn't understand your reply; I didn't know about the additional audio controls (that are hidden by default) or that there was a Shuffle icon in them. I had only seen the Shuffle choice at the top of the playlist. I think shuffle must have been turned on by default; I didn't turn it on. I found that it's not necessary to turn on Repeat in the Now Playing screen to turn off shuffling, though.
So if other readers have this problem, do this:
Play a song in your playlist.
Tap the display once in the Now Playing screen (it's either the album artwork or the default graphic) to display the additional audio controls.
Tap the the Shuffle icon on the right if it's blue (indicating shuffle is turned on). It will turn gray (indicating shuffle is turned off).
Your playlist will now play in order.

  • How to add songs to a playlist when the songs are NOT on the Purchased list

In Itunes there used to be, in the Playlist page, a "playlist" which appeared at the top called All Music. In the more recent versions of Itunes this is no longer the case and All Music has disappeared and the closest you can get is Purchased. Unfortunately the Purchased list misses out all sorts of things which were genuinely added to Itunes.
In the old days I could select any group of songs from the All Music "playlist" and simply drag them into the appropriate playlist. No problem. Obviously I can still do this if all the songs are on Purchased but, if they are not, what do I do.
I know that it is possible to see all the songs by clicking on Songs at the top of the page and I can then select those that I wish to add to a playlist. But there is no way (that I can see) of dragging these to the required playlist since playlists do not appear in this page format. There is nothing in File or Edit which looks useful. I even tried Copying the selection (in desperation i must admit) with a view to subsequently Pasting to the appropriate playlist but, as I expected, that has a greyed out Paste so no luck there.
There obviously must be a way of adding songs which do not appear in Purchased to a playlist. What am i missing?

Hi scroobyplex, I think i am now fairly happy with the situation as explained in my last post but, as you have taken the trouble to reply, i will try to explain myself a bit better as i don't seem to have been very successful so far.
As I mentioned in my 2nd post, I am well aware of the Categories button at the top left of the screen under File/Edit/View etc. For me this is always set to Music since i don't use any of the other categories.
I am not sure what you mean when you say clicking on Music shows all my music files. In fact, when I click on category Music, I then get various choices appearing along the top of the screen as mentioned in my 1st post - Songs, Artists, Albums, genres, Playlists. If i choose any of the first four I do get a full list of all my tracks but there is no facility there for dragging selected tracks onto a specific playlist.
The other option is Playlists. This gives me a list of all my current playlists, both those created by me and those created automatically by Itunes (of which the previously mentioned  Restored Playlist .... playlist is an example) The Playlist screen always opens with one of the playlists already selected
The only option i have then of seeing a different list of tracks is to select a different playlist. If i want to add new tracks to a playlist, often the Purchased list will be OK as a source for dragging but, if i have loaded a CD into Itunes, I would need to select the Restored Playlist... playlist as any new tracks seem to automatically go onto this regardless of the source. There is nothing else which gives me a full list of tracks on a screen which permits dragging onto any specific playlist.
As mentioned in my previous post I have no idea why all my music, both old and new, goes into a playlist called  Restored Playlists....  instead of something sensible like Music or All Music but it does what i need so i no longer have a problem

They will only be where you put them.  They do not magically appear in new places.
Have you copied them from your old computer to your new one?
