Live Paint Suddenly Changed??? PLEASE!!!!

Grr. I have jusgt recently began using live paint and I was in love with it! I live painted an entire illustration and then after almost completing my poster, I noticed my illustration had changed. I used a lot of gradients in my illustration and they were all gone, and there is this black stroke around all of my work. WTF happened!!!
This is what I had originally.
This is what I have now!! Utter trash. Ugh.
Here is a close up of the black line ****.
PLEASE HELP! I am absolutely clueless and totally desperate.

There are some issues with live paint in CC.
You'd better not move it, copy/paste it or add lines to it. If you want to do one of these, better expand beforehand.

• Big problem, Live Paint Bucket changing strokes

Hi all, so in the first picture you can see the finished line work. When I fill the face with a color in Live Paint, it changes the strokes and makes them appear jagged in varying widths, it's especially obvious on the eyes, ears, and hair - it looks like it is applying Pathfinder>Divide. I have the stroke set to nothing when I apply the fill, please help!

how about this?
1. duplicate the lineart and put it underneath the layer and lock the original
2. convert the lineart into an outline stroke by going to Effect>Outline Stroke then Object>Expand Appearance
3. Open Pathfinder Pallete and then select all and Unite/Add it.
4. change everything to no stroke and no fill
5. select all then convert it to live paint
6. deselect the converted path and start using live paint bucket.
7. after that expand it and ungroup so you can move the fill path. also you'll notice that it will remove all path you have been converted.
reply if it works,

• Live paint changes my shapes?

I have a star that I applied the pucker and bloat effect to and I made it into a live paint group via the object > live paint > make and it changed it into an elliptical shape. Why is this? I am using cs5.
Thank you.

Do you mean why an ellipse and not the original star shape? Or just that Livepaint won't work on it after applying the effect? For the latter, I get this warning when trying to make a Live Paint Group:

• Please help! - Illustrator CC - editing path messes up entire live paint drawing

Example of problem in this image:
http://ccteardrop.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/dana-solomon-adobe-cc-problem.png
Basically, whenever I have a finished illustration, I go back and make a few tweaks to different paths. In previous versions of illustrator, this had never been a problem. If anything it would cause a small error I could quickly repair. In Illustrator CC, however, whenever I make a small change with the direct selection tool, it basically disrupts my entire live paint drawing. Any help would be great! Thanks so much!!!

Hi Mylenium, Thanks for responding. I was just reading this forum in an attempt to answer my own question:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/5762116
Changing gap detection to "small gaps" helps slightly but the problem is still new in CC and has not been present in previous versions. Wondering if it is some kind of bug as the other forum suggests, or if there is some new setting/preference I'm missing or configuring incorrectly in CC.

• Why is Illustrator's 'Live Paint' ruining my lines?? please help.

I am new to illustrator but i have managed to get around the basics of creating and coloring illustrations. The other day i created a nice image fine without any problems. But today, when i highlight my image and go to Object>Live Paint (so that i am able to use the live paint bucket tool and color the image). it just screws up the lines and makes it look weird.
Before: http://s3.postimg.org/pnywj9f8z/rffref.png
After Live Paint: http://s21.postimg.org/ywg20q9x3/safuqq.png
Why is this happening?

You used thw width tool to create the lines?
Live paint won't work with anything else than plain strokes (or no strokes at all)
What you can do:
- expand the varibale width strokes
- make a copy of the artwork (so you can keep the live variable strokes) and then live paint the copy

• How do you keep selected colors with Live Paint Bucket?

I am always having to re-select the colors for fill and stroke each time I use the Paint Bucket. This is tedious. There must be a way to keep the selection...

Not sure what the "Live Paint Bucket" is, but if you are working in Premiere's Titler, and have constant Stroke and Fills, you can easily create and Save a Style, so that the colors and attributes will be constant, Title through Title. The Style will even set your font, and its size, for reuse.
Another method would be to Save the Title, and use it in multiple Projects, just changing the Text, as is required.
Now, if you are talking about something else, please point me in the correct direction.
Good luck,

• Live Paint Bucket in CS5

Using Illustrator on a Windows box running XP sp3 with an Intuos 2
I've been using Illustrator CS2 for awhile and have upgraded to CS5. I need some help with a problem I'm experiencing with the Live Paint Bucket. I select the illustration, go to Object > Live Paint > Make and get the Blue bouning box. I choose my Fill and Stroke colors and go to work. It seems to work until I get a closer view, around 800%, and then I notice that the stroke isn't filling in some of the strokes completely (there appear to be gaps within the Path that don't show in a normal view). Its leaving artifacts (I don't know what else to call them) unstroked. I've attached two two examples of these artifacts. I've also tried to correct this with the Live Paint Selection Tool which I'm also having a problem with. I've released the Live Paint group and checked that all my paths connect and have corrected any problems I can see.
This hasn't helped either. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong. I've consulted the Help and either I can't read English with comprehension or........I can't find the correct words to bring up the problem.
I thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

I'll try to help. Since I don't know what you expect to see, it is hard to say what you're doing wrong. The gold line end, in the top left boxed area, can be selected with the Live Paint Selection tool and either deleted or painted with "none". Clicking on the line can be tricking with the selection tool because it tends to select the fill instead. Zoom in and you will see when it's selected, then just hit "delete" or type "/" to assign a stroke color of "none" to the selection.
You can also using the Live Paint Bucket tool to do this. With the Bucket tool active, hold "shift" to highlight strokes, then choose "none" and click. You can scroll through the color choices using the left and right arrow tools.
I'm not sure what you want to change in the center section. Remember, you don't have to release the Live Paint object to make edits to the paths with the pen or pencil tools. They remain fully editable. You can also add new paths to the Live Paint object by either working in "isolation mode" or by dragging paths into the Live Paint object within the Layers Panel.

• How can I reduce the number of lines in live paint?

I'm trying to use adobe illustrator to color the background of a photograph green while keeping the person in the picture the same color.
I used live trace to get a vector image and then attemped to use live pain to finish the job, but I end up with thousands of blue lines and gaps that are too small to color in. Is there anyway i can reduce the number of gaps so that i can actually paint the background?
I've already tried the gap options and adjusting the settings to small medium or large did nothing.
If this isn't possible, is there any other feature in adobe illustrator that would allow me to achieve my goal?
I have a photograph with a person in the middle; i want the person to remain the same and the background to be changed to green.
Thanks for your time.

Would be easiest to fix this when tracing.
You could try the magic wand tool to select them (but you'll have to expand the live paint object)

• Hotmail suddenly changed appearance and now presents with the top of the page blue with lines. I have a screenshot...

Running Firefox 15.0. Hotmail suddenly changed appearance and my page is not at the bottom of the screen. The top 5/6 of the page is a series of horizontal blue strips. Text in the blue section is the Windows Live titles like "Home, Devices, Mobile, etc". When I try to compose a new message, text from the blue area partially covers the "To" button, so I have to position the cursor at the very bottom of the button to enter an address. I tried Hotmail in IE and it appears just fine, so it must be a compatibility problem between Hotmail & Firefox. Hotmail has not responded to my email questions. I could understand if this happened at the very beginning of a session, just after I power up, but this happened after I had been active in Hotmail and other sites. Other sites are not affected, just Hotmail, and just in Firefox.

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.
*View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)
If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a (too) high value can cause issues.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with overlapping text.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

• Can't rotate a gradient when it's a live paint object?

Hello,
OK-so I have a bunch of paths currently activated as a Live Paint object.
I place linear gradients in them, and when I go the gradient panel and try to rotate them, it looks like it will let me, by changing the rotation amount in the panel, but nothing happens in the gradient.
Is it possible to rotate a single gradient within a single, path while its still a Live Paint object?
thanks!
babs

Hi Monika and Gradientmush!
So sorry for the delay....My client came in and we just finished up, so I just got your responses!
I feel like an idiot!!! That was it Monika...I completely forgot about the paint paint selections tool!!!! As soon as I selected it with that tool and rotated the gradient in the gradient panel, it worked beautifully!!!
Thanks so much to the both of you.....one of those duh..moments ;-)
Haven't used live paint in awhile, and I completely forgot about the separate selection tool!!!
thanks!

• Live Paint Bucket

Hi!
After painting live paint bucket i can't edit my picture. If i find vector element necessary to me into layers and try move it or change color my picture becomes ugly.
I can't realise it. How i can edit it?

If you want to change the of a Live Paint Group use the Live paint bucket or the Live Paint Selection tool to select the area you want to change the color, It is in the same tool group on the toolbar as the live paint bucket and the shape builder tool. Once you select an area you should be able to use the picker to change the color or a the swatch panel or the color panel.
If you want to change the shape of an object that is part of the Live Paint group use the direct select tool the white arrow.
If you want to add to the Live paint group you draw your shape (path and select both the new path you want to add and the live Paint group and use the Merge Live Paint button in the control panel at the top of the interface below the menu.
Read about working with the Live paint Groups in the help files

• Live Paint erases one of my strokes

I've built two different colored strokes around some text (inner layer is green, outer layer is red). When I convert this to the Live Paint Mode by clicking the letters with my Live Paint bucket, a warning comes up telling me certain things might be lost. I press okay, and the red outer layer of the text dissapears. I want that layer to stay though! I've attached pictures of this process. I'm new to this and would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you! -Sebastian

Thank you Scott!
I think I understood what you are saying... but I found a different way of doing it. I now have two strokes going on on top of each other- One is just WIDER than the other. I've attached a picture displaying the effect I was looking for. This is where I'm at now... but my final step is to change the black color of some of the letters on the inside... For example: as you can see, i've highlighted a portion of the "M" that I want to change from black to white using the Live Color bucket. My only problem is that it is telling me that is already white... ???? Could I maybe export this as an image and change its colors that way? Is there another method to change those black letters on the inside to white?

• Illustrator crashes when moving objects in live paint group

A little help here...
Illustrator CC keeps crashing whenever I try to move a path or an object in a live paint group. I've tried it on other computers, but they seem to work fine. It seemed to only affect my laptop, so I'm not sure what happened. Restarting and updating it doesn't seem to solve the problem.
Here are the technical specifications for my Macbook Pro:
Mid-2009 Macbook Pro 15"
2.8 GHz model w/ SD card slot
Intel Core 2 Duo
Has Mavericks
4 GB of RAM
Please help!!! My project is due the next week!
Thanks,
Michelle

I think I know the solution to the problem (for me anyway)!
I have been plagued by this CC problem for months with Illustrator, In Design and Photoshop. I even bought a new machine because of the stress it caused me, and not to mention the lost work hours!!!! But since buying the new machine and having it happen again, and again and again, I have ruled out all font, software, plugin conflicts - because there is nothing on my machine that was on the old one. All of my old files are on an external hard drive and I have had Illustrator CC crash several times with the hard drive ejected. This is what leads me to think (in my case at least) that the machine/files/plugins are not the problem. Here's what has worked for me, and where I think my problem stems from:
CC membership allows you to run the Adobe applications on 2 machines, in most people's cases that's home and office. I have two machines; one for work with one set of preferences that my CC account was made with, and another machine at home that is shared and has an entirely different set of preferences.
When an Illustrator file is left open on my work machine (the machine that the CC account was created on) with a long period of inactivity (e.g. over a weekend) Illustrator CC on my home machine crashes constantly (as soon as I try to move an object it crashes). As soon as Illustrator CC is closed down on my work machine, Illustrator CC on my home machine is then fine! And then both machines will the run Illustrator CC again simultaneously until the work machine is left for another long period of inactivity (a couple of days). Then, when it is, my home machine crashes again.
I also noticed that each time Illustrator CC asked me to send a crash report from my home machine to Adobe it would pull the email from the preferences on my home machine, not the email that the CC account was made with (which is the email on my work machine). It could be that leaving Illustrator CC/any of the CC apps open and inactive for a couple of days causes some kind of 'time out' period on the account.
This could explain why Illustrator CC would work again on my home machine (briefly) when trashing the account preferences.
So to re-cap I have solved my seemingly inexplicable problem by making sure that Illustrator CC is not left open for long periods of inactivity (2 days seems to be the threshold) on one machine, if the account is being shared across two machines.
Please let me know if this A. makes sense and B. helps anyone.

• Firefox suddenly changes to very basic text only view

When I'm on the internet e.g. doing shopping on Ocado.com the internet suddenly changes to a very simple text only type of layout (i'm no tech whizz - it looks like a word document rather than an internet page?) I don't know whether this is Firefox or something else on my new laptop. Please can anyone give me a tip?
Thanks

thank you! I will try that

• Any issues with keeping shapes in Live Paint Mode?

1. Are there any drawbacks to keeping a shape in Live Paint Mode and not expanding it?
2. Are there any drawbacks to using Live Paint Mode at all? Does it change the way the artwork works with other shapes in AI?
Thank you.

Depends on how you define drawbacks. What context?
Same as 1. Also, about which interactions are you talking?
